Meet The PetMorons

Shalom.jpg

This is Shalom. We don't know much about her. She was found in a ditch and a nice Amish lady took her in. The lady gave her the name Shalom. She cared for her for about 4 weeks when one of our volunteers found out about her. She's blind and deaf and suffers from dementia. Russell said she is another hospice doggie we will care for until her time comes to cross the Rainbow bridge. She could have possibly wandered off and the owners couldn't find her or worse, was left to die. As of this date she barely eats or drinks. I don't think she'll be with us long but we will give her all the love she deserves. - Jewells

Once again Jewells, a job well done. Thank you to all of you folks who do this kind of work.

This is Pearl. She is one of four cats I discovered under a tarp in my backyard when they were four week old kittens (to be more accurate, my dogs had found them, I just noticed a wet furball on the grass where my dog had dropped it after coming out from under the tarp).
Pearl wishes everyone a Happy Holiday season.

Well you tell Pearl and all of her kitteh and doggeh sibs a Happy Holiday Season from us here at the AoS Pet Thread. Adorable cat.

So Ruby came to us from a rescue that collects puppies from the remote villages and finds them homes; we've had her for about a year and she has been featured on the pet thread before. Last week, I heard on the radio that there were too many dogs at the pound, so I looked up the website and there was Ruby, except it wasn't Ruby, it was Piper. Same age, same markings, much too similar to be from different litters.

I went to the pound to check her out, and as soon as Ruby saw her, it was like, "Hey, Sissie, where you been?" The folks there said lots of people have come to see her, but they all thought she was much too hyper to be a good house dog. Of course I brought her home, and she and Ruby are inseparable, play constantly, and wear each other out. It was just meant to be.

We now have a Three Dog Night, and couldn't be more pleased.

tcn in AK

Ruby looks silly and in a great home. We don't see any hyper activity. Congrats on your 3 Dog Night Team. And thanks for submitting this moving story.

11 Our dear, departed feline would sit in the window to wait for us to get home from work. When he would see my car approach, he would start meowing for me. When he saw me open the car door, he would jump down from the windowsill to meet me at the door.

He was glad to see me. Maybe he didn't know how be an aloof cat.

12 When our Rhodesian Ridgeback had a stroke and we had to let her go I gave her peanut M&M's before we took her to the vet, the wife almost threw a fit. I said what difference does it make at this point.

Come to find out a vet near us has Hershey's kisses they give out when they have to euthanize dogs, they call them good bye kisses.

Baby, our huskie mix got adopted again. I think this one will be a much better fit. They have another dog so she'll have a playmate.

Jewels: A big thank you too for being there for those damaged dogs. We have taken in a number of old, medically needy dogs and cats ( A squirrel too) over the years and they are the most thankful of animals.

Tcn: We had a similar story one day. We stopped at a rest stop on I -84 in Eastern Oregon and walking back to our car. A woman was walking her dog that looked exactly like our Breccia. Another talking a bit her and our dog, we came to the conclusion they were litter mates.

96 Hey, all,

I'm a little late here! Good bunch of beasts. Pearl looks something like my mother's late Lil Bit tri-color, the sweet little shorthair who was so attached to Mom that she hid from everybody after Mom passed away. I had to dig her out at the house, put her in a carrier, and bring her home -- where she promptly vanished under my bed. She'd only come out at night to eat.

Until, 3 weeks later, on Christmas Day. She trotted out from the bedroom and sprang right into my lap. I imagined her thinking (however a cat does it): "I'll have to get over this sometime. Why not now?"

I'm glad she recovered and felt comfortable enough to sit on your lap. Our big black cat likes FenSpouse's lap, but usually she comes on it in the morning and only has about about 20 minutes before he has to leave for work, at which time she'll come and lie on the heated blanket next to me-not on me.

101 Hey, all,

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at December 18, 2021 05:04 PM (c6xtn)

When introducing a new cat or kitten, I avoid bedrooms where cats as the initial safe room because under-the-bed is too good a hidey spot - you can't get at them to see how they are doing or if they are eating. I have used a closet with the floor part cleaned out as a safe cave with blankets to dig in or hide under. Sofas in a living room are nearly as bad.

Cats are . . . odd.

Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is back from the shop, and they think he has some kind of nerve pain (possibly a pinched nerve?) that affects his right shoulder and foreleg, hence the limping and inability to jump. They have him on 3 gabapentin a day now. If things don't improve markedly, we may have to go to 2x a week subcutaneous injections of another med -- a quick shot, the way I gave Arizona his insulin years ago. But he eats and spends time with us; he's not withdrawn or deeply depressed. (I hope.)

I broke an arm a couple years back and had surgery on the wrist (plate/pin) and my boss lady cat Rhea who usually spent part of the night on a stand near the bed or up on a bookcase parked herself right off my hip on the broken arm side every time I lay down for months. She went back to her normal habits one day a few days before I had a doctor appointment checking the healing and the Doc said it was completely healed and pulled out the pin. Doctor Rhea apparently already knew that.

At the time, OC, my life was not a whole lot less destroyed than Lil Bit's: Mom had died, Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 had left, and I was getting sober. Plus I didn't have much room, any more than I do now. I had to make do with what was available. Good points, though.

It happens -- I think often with black cats, esp. longhairs. It's hard to see the plumbing back there. Marie-Antoinette the late smart black cat was a girl as far as we knew, and as far as her vet told us, until she was at a new vet in Denver -- who came out and announced "Marie-Antoinette is a boy!" What gets me is the vet shop that treated her before. Didn't they check????

She remains "Marie" and "she" to this day. What were we going to call her, "Murray-Antoinette"?

Thanks, Jewells. I'd never have the patience you do with rescues and so forth. My reluctance to deal with things like this is why I am careful about committing to a cat and wouldn't knowingly take on a special needs feline. Chekov and I have been buddies (though with clashes, and with other less crucial health issues) for more than 11 years.

I have a buddy, a very smart buddy, who insists that cat's purrs are therapeutic, they can physically help mend bone and joint problems.

121 Dogs: Sometimes pee when excited
Cats: Pee out of pure spite, on everything precious to you.

We had a beautiful long-haired white cat named Spook. When our first son was born (the first of our half dozen), Spook was insanely jealous, and started peeing on everything in sight.

The last straw was when I woke up to find him sitting on my chest, looking right at my face, peeing on ME.

We loaded the car and drove 1200 miles to give him to my sister in another state. He needed a place to start over with a clean slate.

122 Latettia James shut down quite a few puppy and cat breeding retail outlets in NY this year - forcing all these breeds in their inventory into local animal shelters. The owners lost millions and went out of business - which is pretty much what NY does now - run you out of business and make you move to Orlando or Nashville and start up again - leaving everyone else left in NY to pick up Lattetia's oversized salary.

The result of her jihad against 'puppy mills' is really this: what used to cost you $2500 to $3500 for a Cockapoo or a Bernese Mountain dog - you can now get for free at a NY shelter. Which, now that I think about it, mean James unleased poorly bred and diseased dogs (her reasoning in the court cases she brought) onto the public for free. Thanks, Latettia!

LOL.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at December 18, 2021 06:00 PM (KBCaU)

124 One argument that the pet shop folks brought to court was actually pretty smart - you pay $2500 for a dog, you're going to take care of that dog and he's not getting abandoned or abused.

The NY State liberal court didn't see it that way - who wouldn't treat a puppy bad other than the breeders and these puppy mills? Except for the fact that - well, sickly or poorly maintained animals don't sell - but other than that!

Yeah, NY State is beyond help at this stage. Idiocracy was a guide, not a movie, for most NY State local politicians and the demented NY Judiciary that consistently props these incompetent shit heads up.
