Top concerns of voters - border, economy, inflation.

Just imagine if there were ever a prez candidate who not only made 2 of those 3 the centerpiece of his campaign, but also went on to actually make significant to spectacular progress on them when in office.

Every one of these horrendous (and as ace implied, probably quite understated) poll numbers for the vile vegetable only reinforces how disastrously Americans beclowned themselves a year ago. >>$678 to replace the rear brakes on my mazda3. Sigh

Well it depends on what exactly they are doing.

Just looked it up, a brake kit for a mazda 3 is 80 bucks, which includes rotors, brake and hardware for two wheels.

Average labor rate is around 100 dollars an hour at a dealer.
Figure it would take about 3 hours to do the job on both sides.
So it should realistically be around four hundred dollars.
If they are also doing something like changing out the splash shield or caliper then, yes, 678 could be in line.
To change the splash guard on a Mazda 3 you have to remove the hub, very time consuming.
So, there's that.

187 College friend, who did a stint in USMC earlier, loved to tell the story of using his "Monkey be cool" stick when doing jungle hikes.

I forget what country, but apparently the alpha monkeys would jump in front of the lead Marine. It was this Marine's job to use the Monkey Be Cool stick about the head and neck of the challenger, so that the rest of the monkeys wouldn't get any stupid ideas about challenging the humans.

Former LRRP NCO that was my mentor used to find a nursing mother monkey, and shoot the infant. 5.56 on a 1lb infant means, no more infant. Mom, and the rest of the troop would be too busy searching for the infant to follow along and give away his position.

Somehow, i never asked what he did once he was in an area where he couldn't do that.

I was in college while the Soviet Union was in the process of going out of business. I remember a poli sci professor saying that even if the USSR were to go under, we shouldn't consider it a win. He believed that without an external Big Bad, we'd eventually turn on ourselves, and in a war that never goes hot, both sides end up losing. He likened it to a duel where one participant keels over from natural causes, and with nothing left to do, the other participant just goes ahead and shoots himself. Turns out he was right (and would also probably never be hired by an American college in 2021.)

272 A lot of interesting stuff coming out about Mark Meadows, too. He abruptly decided he wasn't going to cooperate with the 1/6 committee, after the anonymous folks on gab started pointing out that he helped run a chinese-backed sketchy company with the Epstein people.

299 @232 I watched some of that korean shit Squid Game. It sucks.

----

There are good Korean shows, I'm not going to recommend any. I've no idea what your interests are, and I really couldn't care less whether you like Korean TV or not.

A Korean friend of mine asked me to watch Squid Game and report back on my thoughts. So I watched the first episode last night. I had a vague idea of the idea behind it. And I already knew that in Korean shows (at least all of the ones that I've seen), a corporate executive is even more likely to be corrupt and guilty than a rich white male on Law and Order. So I wasn't particularly caught off guard by anything.

Nor was I particularly impressed with the one episode that I've seen. But I already expected that.

300 Saw the trailer for Let it Be...my thought was, who cares?

The Beetles were just some pop music band from a period of time who wrote some good and some bad songs, had a lot of commercial success, but weren't really intellectuals or important outside their success. They weren't Keats or Shelley. They weren't Kipling or Hamilton or Rousseau or Hume or Acquinas or Locke or Mills.

To try and stretch these four guys into something more than reality is doing just that - stretching.
