When it was my turn, having long had an "account" with all of the info, it should have been a slam dunk. Instead, the idiot clerk told me if I didn't specify my race she couldn't approve me for testing. I declined, and told her it wasn't her business to check my racial purity. She said her hands were tied. I informed her that I have had this testing requirement for months now, so just print the label and I'm on my way. She refused. So I asked for her supervisors name and phone number. She refused that as well. Then she said I was being difficult so I could leave.

I went across town and drive right through, no problem. Same company, no questions asked. I will be calling the Mayor's office when they open on Monday. We pay for this abuse through our taxes. This has to stop.

116 Speaking of the F/A-18 Hornet, I listened to Joe Rogan's podcast from 2019 that featured Commander (Ret.) David Fravor, who in 2005, whilst driving his Hornet off of San Diego along with another aircraft, witnessed a UFO:

https://tinyurl.com/Rogan-CDR-Fravor

Also listened to Rogan's podcast from several months earlier than the Fravor pod of Bob Lazar, who back in the 80s worked out at S-4, which was a tech place near Area 51, and he worked on trying to figure out how an alien spacecraft worked:

https://tinyurl.com/Rogan-Lazar-Pod

I am highly skeptical of UFO stories, but I believe these guys. I also think Rogan is one of the best, most intelligent interviewers I have ever heard.

There are three of those in the Tower of London. Two-handed maces with four-sided heads set with spikes. 128 Hot pot is an actual thing. Very good stuff. Basically a slow simmering aromatic soup that you dip thinly sliced meats, tofu, veggies, etc., into just long enough to cook. Usually family style for larger groups, but you can do individual hot pots too. It's basically what fondue wants to be when it grows up.

210 There is continued consternation over the fact that the Oregon Health Authority is apparently about to make Oregon's indoor mask requirements permanent.

OHA is making the requirements permanent for reasons of "administrative efficiency", and this does not mean that they won't eliminate the requirements "when the time is right". Har-de-har-har.

Before the leftist moderators shut down the discussion, Portland Reddit seemed to think that if you wanted to flip Oregon to the Republicans, have indoor mask requirements still in effect a year from now.

One commenter I think hit the needle on the head:

Also worth mentioning that it's largely a virtue signal at this point. I can't tell you how many people won't take off the mask just "because they don't want people to think they're a Republican/trumper)". Absolute dogshit excuse. Can't help but think this is playing a part in OHA's decision.

All this has led to me starting to think that the left (and governor Brown too) has lost their mind on Covid.

Can I mix those With opioids? 'Cause I have one hell of a headache.

Just a drive-by 'hello', as I am feeling pretty shitty, but, as well as I might under the circumstances.

The nurses here are amazing in that they put up with my sarcastic humor. they're all so young that they don't get most of it. I've thus far managed to not pinch any of them on the butt, but it's been a near thing. I blame drugs, and brain damage for such unseemly behavior. That's my plea.

Interesting moment, in evaluating my cognizant state and awareness, one PT read a long list of questions to test my reaction to those things. One of the questions was 'If Someone was breaking into your home, what would you do'? I realized in the moment that followed I that she expected the reply 'Call 911'. What I actually said was 'Shoot to kill'. She seemed shocked.

my profuse thanks for the thoughts/prayers/contacts. I'm pretty tired, and have difficulty using the computer, but want to stay in touch.

281 98 I get tested for coof every Friday. The city just closed some of the free test sites, so I went to a new one. The clerk took 45 minutes to do forms for a family of three, ahead of me. I waited. When it was my turn, having long had an "account" with all of the info, it should have been a slam dunk. Instead, the idiot clerk told me if I didn't specify my race she couldn't approve me for testing. I declined, and told her it wasn't her business to check my racial purity. She said her hands were tied.

Maybe that's why it took 45 minutes for the family of three, they had to figure out the race of each person. When you call the mayor, tell him that you think the whole process is racist. Or better yet, white supremacy.

292 When my youngest daughter, now 14, turned 1, we had a great little party for her in our backyard. Pool, garden, jumpy castle, trampoline for the big kids. Lots of fun. Lots of kids.

But the highlight was when four of the Dads were just standing on the patio shooting the breeze and little Paige (the birthday girl) tottered over to us and stood in the middle of all the towering Dads and just started babbling about something she really needed to tell us all, with her arms gesticulating and this super serious look on her face.

All us Dads just nodded and said "Yep" . . . "You don't say!", and "Hmmmm" and she just kept babbling for 20 minutes. Not a single real word in the whole lecture and it was about the cutest thing I think I have ever seen.

299 239 My nephews watch anime.
=====
It's catching on.
I think there was an article linked here recently that had the right take on this. The manga/anime publishers know what kind of story each demographic likes (e.g. preteen boys, teen girls, lonely guys in their 20s), and they go balls out to give it to them.
As opposed to our entertainment media, which is obsessed with trying to score stupid political points, reader or viewer be damned.
===
When I got started in anime, it was definitely underground, you had to go to anime clubs, give the password, and watch VHS trading tapes of dubious quality. It was cartoon geek and genre nerd social activity on a scale not seen outside of a Star trek convention. Then a few cable channels and Blockbuster Video realized there was some money in obtaining the stuff in the mid-Nineties, and the hobby began to gain ground. My niece started reading manga she found at the public library when she was 10. Not all of my life has led to disappointment.

Koreans in Japan are second class citizens. Many are a sort of mob. Same with Chinese. Like, half the crime in Japan comes from the 1% of koreans and chinese in the country. (I am exaggerating, but you get the point.)

The koreans are mostly people stuck after the wars and they are not fond of the Japanese. Also, Korea and China both teach their children to hate the Japanese as part of their fascism. Japanese are sick of hearing about it.

492 My vote is the fish went into the box, and then into a length of electrical conduit, where an electrician on the far end of the conduit will securely attach various wires or cables to said fish, which the first electrician will then rewind into it's spool, bringing the wires or cables through the conduit, from one juncture box to the other.

Not a very sexy solution, but it does seem to fit the riddle.

530 Celebrity death, at least when I was old enough to notice (some of the greats kicked it when I was a little kid and didn't notice so didn't affect me at the time)? Kurt Cobain. He was a mess and never anyone to emulate or get life philosophy from, but when he killed himself he basically killed rock as a major art form..You Know You're Right, his last woek, may be his best, and after he was gone the whole thing collapsed and rock turned into something like jazz or blues, a niche form with the new artists being cult types..The "kids" and the mainstream industry moved on to whatever you would call post-Cobain music. At least that's my opinion.

Its an old riddle meant to torture people. Either its based on the hat riddle and you have to end it in a "?" Like "in the box, right?" Or it starts with "Here" so the answer is "here"

The fish is in the "question" or this here riddle. But mostly its to screw with people.

I think Rogan is a good interviewer, mainly because he doesn't try to overtalk or get a fast one over on his guests, and gives them the time to give significant answers. But as far as most intelligent interviewer that's currently alive, I would give that award to John Michael Godier from the Event Horizon podcast. That dude is a sci-fi writer who regularly interviews PhDs, and almost every episode they will say "wow, that's a great question", often multiple times.

609 I'm not a professional risk analyst, but I suspect spending two full days in any hospital is far more likely to give you COVID, especially compared to spending a few hours with a once vax'd but unboosted relative. And never mind all the other fun stuff floating around hospitals like MRSA!

If anything, the vaxxed and boosted peeps are more likely to spread the Coof, becaue they could be carrying a huge viral load, and yet have no symptoms. The unvaxxed, if not actively showing symptoms, you can safely assume not to have the Coof.

751 I'm on SS. We won our war on poverty by careful saving and frugality over the years plus the retirement accounts. We aren't rich, but simply comfortable.

Ironically, the years of frugality have become ingrained, we still live well within our means. I don't feel guilt for accepting the money, it's a reimbursement for what was extorted over the years. What galls me is some pencilneck fuck in DC telling me that I MUST withdraw X amount each year or face a penalty. It's my money, earned legally, ethically and morally. Final disposition should belong to me in whatever manner I choose, even up to making a pile of it and burning in the driveway.

769 SMH. A tracked vehicle, even one as mighty as the Abrams, eventually is a sitting duck for well trained infantry. Or, even, highly motivated irregulars or partisans.

Old fashioned doctrine has Infantry advancing with the tanks, in order to keep enemy infantry well away from the tank's weak spots. Kinda hard for Infantry to keep up with an Abrams at 45mph, even if giving chase in a Bradley. Hadji does have the short term tactical advantage in asymmetric, tank/infantry warfare though. He'll be willing to be the human delivery system for the disabling charge or device. Us? Not so much, damn sure not as often. Oh, and Hadji does have an absurdly high failure rate going, so there's that in our favor, anyway.

d'Aww.. ain't nuttin', Sis. I've never actually been on or in an Abrams. But the AF saw fit to send me through a few segments of Bare Base Ground Defense School, one of which was a wee clinic in the asymmetric infantry attack against armor. This was in the late 1970s, mostly I think, a pre-Abrams era. Same game though, same rules.

But if I've gotta fight vs. an Abrams? I'll prefer to do so from the comfort of a drone-control Conex a few thousand miles away, thankyouverymuch!

I have the Ultimate Discography, and it is interesting to listen to some of the early demos that became the final songs.

Re: Comfortably Numb, Waters and Gilmour disagreed about how to record the song; Gilmour preferred a more grungy style for the verses. Gilmour said: "We argued over 'Comfortably Numb' like mad. Really had a big fight, went on for ages."[13] In the end, Waters' preferred opening and Gilmour's final solo were used. - Wikipedia.

Speaking of that, I took my kid to the Dude Perfect live show (sports bro, trick shot YouTubers) recently and they had a little after show where they wanted to talk about Jesus a bit and told they audience to stay if they wanted. Somewhat surprising to me, at a show in the heart of Portland, a vast majority of the people stayed to hear the message. It was almost exclusively families attending, but still, that was heartening even in a dismal political climate like we have.

Posted by: SMH while awaiting His return at December 04, 2021 01:34 AM (rqQle)

Part of OUR problem with armor in urban AOs, is the amount of collateral casualties we are willing to accept.

We won't just blow the shit out of places, due to possible civilian casualties... dealt with this issue doing Shore Fire Support in the Navy. Times we SHOULD have shot, we did not... because.... Nice.

813 Always thought the tank was there to protect the infantry's advance. Posted by: Braenyard..

The tank's armor protects the crew and the important internal hardware. The tank's main gun and various machine guns help to protect the surrounding infantry. The surrounding infantry is who and what seizes the ground being over-run, and also protects the tank itself.

It's all synergy, one cannot do with the other, in whole or in part. More granularly, then add in Armored Personnel Carriers, light artillery and heavy weapons platoons. Every one of them a separate tooth in the Pitbull's Jaw, all chewing merrily away at the enemy with every savage bite. Oh, and airpower, too. You got that, and you don't have a "level playing field", but you've got a billiards table, and every ball on the felt is your own personal sitting duck named Will. Who shall be fired upon, when the appropriate order is issued.

821 Debby Doberman..

Check out the LG Commercial (analog) washer at Lowe's.

Yeah, it's a $ grand. But it's a no-computer, no BS, commercial grade washer that doesn't do fancy crap, but it does WASH. Or, wersh, depending on one's dialect.

It's made to last long enough to pass down to your heirs, kind of machine.

Seen that, but that has nothing to do with my younger daughter.

She grew up in the church, so she knows. But when she became a teenager, she rebelled. Unfortunately, I was in the Army at the time, deployed in Iraq, and was unable (and unwilling) to confront her.

The Lord forgives, but the consequences do not go away.

824 Remember how much the media made of collateral damage in Vietnam. We couldn't operate as we should have because of those malevolent slime puddles. We lost SO many men needlessly.

Posted by: irongrampa at December 04, 2021 01:49 AM (KATBx)

825 True Romeo, but unfortunately, we were made very much aware of how "our" media would highlight the slightest misstep when it came to Iraq.

In WWII we had censor ship of the media in the warzone.

There is no reason we couldn't have done it again.

In fact, if Bush 43 had wanted to win wars instead of just starting them he could have literally copied the ROE and media standards from WWII. Let the FNM argue FDR was a NAZI all day long if they wanted.

The First Amendment must obviously apply within the Fifty-(seven?) U.S. States. But in an overseas war-zone? Does it carry the same weight, even there? WWII, we could trust the War Correspondents to a large degree, and they seldom fucked the program. By Vietnam, they had become untrustworthy.

Now though? Tell me how or why they're not considered an Enemy Asset when in a U.S. War Zone, and tell me why we should not deal with them summarily, in accordance with their self-demonstrated status as such.

831 This is cool. The Southern hemisphere is enjoying a total solar eclipse today (Saturday, December 4) and it is being live-streamed:

https://youtu.be/aAxDSFOuQx4

"On Saturday, December 4, 2021, the total solar eclipse will start at 10:59 a.m., India time and will go on until 3:07 p.m."

Hmm. It's 12:25 p.m. India time now (10:55 p.m. Pacific Time) so it's been happening for an hour and a half and will end at 1:37 a.m. Pacific. This feed is a bit suspect.

We have purchased many appliances from him over the years and I don't mind if it has a ding or a scratch. Yep. No matter how broken you are, until the last, final breath of air leaves your body, you can use that last desperate gasp to ask for forgiveness and be saved . . .
