Ace of Spades Pet Thread

***

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread, kick back, relax and enjoy the world of animals.

***

A Little of This. A Little of That.

The following was submitted by ShainS. Thanks Shain.

***

I received the following photo and commentary from Golfboy. I'm not sure what thread it belongs in. But, it was a great find and a wonderful photo.

IMG_1773.jpg

Dear Mis. Hum.,

Not sure whether this belongs to the pet thread or gardening thread! The photo is real (not a photoshop). The spider web is actually attached to a bird feeder that is closer to the camera than to the trees in the background. This perspective makes it look extra yuge.

Cheers,
Golfboy

Meet The PetMorons

Sister Shiba Inus. Momo (Peach) on the left is older by five months, and is my son's dog. Ren (Lotus Flower) is mine and eats incessantly, which is why she's bigger.

Cute doggehs. And very well behaved. And a wonderful looking plate of food. I would be eating non-stop if I were at your home. Thanks for sharing.

Edison by Marcy 2020.jpg

Portrait of Edison Completed.jpg

This is Edison, our (now) 11 year old rescue Shih-Pom. The portrait was painted by Laura “Sarge” Sargeant, a Canadian pet artist, and the second painting is by “Marcy,” an artist who saw Edison and asked if she could paint him – both artists picked the same picture out of half a dozen, so I guess it is the “money shot.” Edison continues to charm into his old age. -Debra T.

Wonderful art which you submitted. Your pooch is adorable and appears to be the king of your home.

Good afternoon

A few submissions of pets past and present for the weekly world famous pet thread. All have passed but Mischief. Being adopted from the shelter we estimate her age at between 10 and infinity.

All adopted from local shelters https://nhspca.org/ and https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/nevins-farm-adoption-center/

1994 Miss George doing her best to catch the "mouse". Yes, George is a female. In this day and age it's allowed you know...
2007 Miss Tilly getting in the Christmas spirit
2018 Masters Cleo the wonder dog and Mischief the dopey cat. Cleo is trying to mind meld with me and say "You are human. There is tennis ball. Humans purpose is to throw tennis balls."

Thanks as always for all the wonderful pet pictures and stories. - Nic is Rodent

You're welcome Rodent, but no thanks are really necessary. Quite the crew over the year. Thanks for sharing.

One of the advantages of frequenting a small town pub in horse country is seeing horses tied to the hitching while riders enjoy a beer. Northernlurker

Well it isn't every day you see horses at a hitching post. Thanks for the interesting photo. Hopefully Paisley was behaving when you took that picture.

Hobbs (1).jpg

This is Hobbs a 10 year old chihuahua. The owner died in May and he's bounced around between shelters and fosters until Shep's rescued him. He's quite a handsome little dude and very sweet. He doesn't appear to have any health issues and he has boundless energy and loves to fetch various stuffed toys. We had him out in the play yard today for a long time and he enjoyed every minute. He won't last long at Shep's! - Jewells

We see you are busy saving another dog Jewells. Thanks for all the work you do and your regular contributions here at the AoS Pet Thread.

19 As I age, I'm getting to know more and more doctors. I went to the podiatrist this week. He's a young guy, just finished his internship. I'm pretty sure I have underwear older than him.

He told me that when he was a (younger) kid, he always want a dog but his parents wouldn't let him have one. So when he went away to college he got one and they were best friends. But then came medical school, there was just no way he could take him so he implored his parents to take care of him. Although they really didn't want to, he prevailed upon them. Then he finished medical he went to get his dog back but his parents said no, we love him and he's staying with us.

20 Happy Saturday!

Looking for some advice here. Our 18 week old Cocker Spaniel (Daisy) has cherry eye. The vet said to wait until she's fully grown and he'll fix it surgically. That's fine with us but I've read online that massaging the eyelid can help get rid of it sooner, but I've also read that it doesn't.

Has anyone had experience with cherry eye? Any tips on how we could help Daisy get over this now instead of waiting?

They just clicked instantly, they really knew each other. And they played there on the sidewalk like no one else was around.

She's here with us, watching the Georgia-Alabama game. The cocktail of the moment is the bloody mary, with ZingZang mix, tabasco, horseradish, feta-stuffed olives, celery, a stir stick of crisp thick sliced peppered and smoked bacon, salt on the rims of our vintage hand-blown Blenko dimpled red glasses. Try CBD oil, people strength. I started using the pet strength, then accidentally wound up with the people version. It helps a lot with her seizures. Loretta is 80 pounds, on gabapentin and prednisone. She also has arthritis. The CBD oil seems to help with pain. If her regular pills leave her restless, the oil will let her sleep.

73 About CBD/Hemp oil for dogs. Our recent rescue, Luna, was frequently limping on her right hindleg. On the vet's recommendation I started giving her glucosamine/chondroitin. It made a marginal difference until I added hemp oil and now she seems much better. More energy, too.

74 I had an Instacart shopper pick up the wrong CBD oil. I didn't notice and gave Loretta the regular dose. She was actually playing with Jake that night! It's 10 drops dosage for people. I usually give half that, when she first gets up. When the time change happened, she got the dosage late and had a seizure. It seems to help prevent the smaller ones and I can give it to her when she is mid seizure.

I introduced smart black cat Marie-Antoinette to the harness and leash and the joys of walking when she was something like 8 years old. She took to it swiftly, so that the 3rd time I brought out the harness she ran crying to the door. But then she was the cat who, when we had to give her a pill, would come toward us, pause at the sight of the pill bottle, then come on ahead and let us dose her. She was well above average in the feline IQ department.

That's cool for older cat. I have actually trained my kittehs to walk with me leashless. They stay within whatever distance I allow. It helps that I am in an area with no through traffic, just the homeowners.

85 Rodent: I had a small white cat named George. She'd been dumped in a cornfield as a barely weaned kitten. I'm still not great at sexing kittens, so I named it Lonesome George. Georgie made it to 19.

87 She's on Carprofen, which is an anti inflammatory. I'm tempted to give her Trazadone, it's what we give her while we're traveling. It knocks her out but I get worried about giving her too much medication.

Amazing. We have sidewalks, and while there is a street, the passage through the apartment complex, it's pretty quiet. Marie's successor, Tatiana the Wonder Siberian, I suspect would have taken to leash-walking easily as well, but she had an allergy to flea bites, and we tried to keep her away from the outdoors as much as possible.

Second Amendment protections only applied to arms in common use for a particular purpose, such as self-defense. However, thats not a requirement dictated by the Second Amendment. Nor did the Heller decision determine they need to be in common use for a stipulated purpose. In fact, the standard is commonly-owned.
