The Morning Report - 11/30/21

omicronmoronic.jpg

Good morning, kids. Tuesday and with a hat tip to commenter RickB223, if you shuffle the letters of Omicron around you get Moronic. Just like all mutations and variants of viruses are less lethal than the previous, omicron has been confirmed by real doctors and real scientists as following that course.

The media hype about the Omicron coronavirus variant contradicts the science, Dr. Angelique Coetzee, a South African doctor who was one of the first to suspect a different coronavirus strain among patients, says.

Exaggerated media hype is being used to villainize South Africa and justify unwarranted travel bans, the National Chair of the South African Medical Association and Ministerial Advisory Committee on Vaccines member said Sunday in an interview with Reuters:

"The hype that's been created currently out there in the media and worldwide doesn't correlate with the clinical picture. "And it doesn't warrant to just cut us off from any traveling, and ban South Africa as if we are the villains in the whole process -- should not be like that.""Looking at the mildness of the symptoms we are seeing, currently there's no reason for panicking as we don't see severely ill patients.

"I also checked with the hospitals, some of the hospitals in my area, and one of the biggest hospitals they only have one patient currently that's [Chinese] COVID-positive on a ventilator -- and they don't even know whether it's [Chinese] COVID, you know it's Delta -- or whether it is Omicron-related."

Symptoms of the Omicron variant are presently so mild and that the virus can be treated at home, Dr. Coetzee noted. In fact, one of her country's largest hospitals has had only one potential Omicron patient -- and even that case isn't confirmed, she said.

Real doctor. Real science. But, yet again the Newtonian political laws of physics are in motion. Despite the irrefutable evidence that there is nothing to fear, nor has there ever been anything to really fear from this virus which in its original form was lethal to 0.06% of the general population, the powers that be want you to be very, very afraid. And so from the relative sanity of South Africa, we take you to the savage jungles of New York City where we have witch doctors pounding out the Oogum-Boogum legba bullshit to keep you in line.

New York City has once again issued an advisory urging people to wear a mask indoors on Monday morning amid concerns of the new [Chinese] coronavirus variant, Omicron.

"I'm also issuing a commissioners advisory strongly recommending that all New Yorkers wear a mask at all times when indoors and in a public setting. Like at your grocery or in building lobbies, offices, and retail stores," Dr. David Chokshi, who serves as the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene commissioner, said in a statement.

There is no medical, scientific or public health reasoning for this. There never has been. Wearing a mask to prevent transmission or infection - unless you are John Travolta in a perpetual plastic bubble hazmat suit - is like erecting a chain link fence to keep out mosquitos. This is not about health; it's about repression and control. Always has been.

Brexit and the election of Trump among other things was the reaction to the encroachments and depredations of globalism. While many others brought those events about, far too many were unconvinced or under the influence of a propaganda machine that painted them as racist, xenophobic and dangerous. The ensuing 87 weeks of the "two weeks to flatten the curve" flattened a few billion people instead. Many are waking up to the fact that the fantasy of how Trump, Brexit and for lack of a better word "nationalism" were portrayed is nothing compared to the nightmare world they and all of us are now living in. It would be interesting to compare the opinions of Aussies, Kiwis, the French, Italians and many other countries about their view things before March of 2020 and what they feel about it today. Maybe they might not admit it outright but you can bet your ass they'd prefer Trump and his mean tweets to their own politicians beating them up, turning the water cannons on them and chucking them into leper colony concentration camps for refusing to be vaccinated or locked down.

As to the globalists, they've come within a red nether hair's width of capturing the planet, the Chi-Coms and Islamikaze Armageddonists notwithstanding. It would be interesting to see (assuming millions of us have not been shot dead in a mass grave) who comes out on top. I would not necessarily bet against Soros and company either. But that's for another time.

We will have more lockdowns, not because of a respiratory virus and its variants. We will have lockdowns because those who used them in the first place to enable the final overthrow of the nation will not countenance an election(s) that have even the remotest possibility of removing them from power. Forgetting elections, when they succeed in destroying our economy and way of life in order to bring about "socialist paradise on earth" you think they want us having the ability to move about and communicate freely to try and organize against them?

The Rittenhouse verdict has shaken them to their core, as well it should. Or it would assuming that the 200 million or more of us who are armed to the teeth have been paying attention.

Now the Leftist lawfare crowd is baying for another bite at Rittenhouse's hide. Some in their numbers are nursing the hope that the federal government will now ground him to dust for, er, something.

But that's likely a non-starter.

And why is that? Because the FBI already investigated the case more than a year ago. Witnesses during the trial, including Grambo and Ryan Balch, testified that the FBI pounded on their doors and interrogated them a long time ago. An FBI agent testified in secret. The FBI ran surveillance and provided aerial footage of the riot, showing that Joseph Rosenbaum lay in wait for Rittenhouse before the pedophile chased the 17-year-old and then grabbed his gun.

If the FBI had a case, the Department of Justice would have brought charges against Rittenhouse a long time ago.

While this might certainly have been the case years ago, the author fails to realize one thing: This is post-America America. Kyle Rittenhouse should never have been tried in the first place. It was open and shut self defense. Considering the government of Kenosha and in Madison had given a green light for the rioting in the first place by ordering the cops not to interfere and not calling in the National Guard Nothing, the former committed acts of state-sponsored terrorism and perhaps sedition. By extension, they are part and parcel of the regime that overthrew America in November of 2020. They continue to hold scores of political prisoners in DC in appalling conditions for opposing that act of treason. So, for them to fabricate charges against Kyle Rittenhouse it's a snap, despite the niceties of double jeopardy, the Constitution, Magna Carta, 1,000 years of western judicial philosophy and most of all, morality and ethics.

Rittenhouse represents an existential threat to their power. Where there is a will for the Junta to crush their enemies - and there is a will - a way will be found.

20 As I mentioned yesterday on some thread, my boss wants me to get it in writing from Personnel that I have an ADA exemption from wearing a face diaper all the time. He's stopped wearing the rag all the time now, but the fear porn about the Moronic version is starting up.

Personnel admits, reluctantly, that I don't have to wear the damn thing in my own office. The woman hates being questioned: "You do not need to wear a mask at all in your own space, the guidance has always been that if you are in your own space, you do not need to wear a mask. Therefore, I did not address that, given there is no accommodation needed.

"You have not been discriminated against based on a disability. I am sorry you think I am not trying to work with you. I informed you that, if necessary, we can accommodate you in other ways- including but not limited to wearing a face shield. I also asked you if you had anything in addition that we could do."

I so want to write back and say, "You Personnel drones really get touchy when someone questions your edicts, huh?" But it may get me in trouble I don't need, and she won't know the word "edict."

45 If the real ladies of Antifa want to buy guns, I say let them, if they can even legally do so. I support the Second Amendment for all Americans. That said, I don't know how many could actually pass the NICS background check.

Since most of the more violent ones are either FBI or FBI approved, I don't imagine that there would be any impediment for them to sport firearms to their next riot regardless of past criminal history.

That said, and it must be remembered that hypocrisy is not a vice but a tool for the Left, I wouldn't be surprised if they totally forget about their claims that a person loses all "rights" to self-defense when they travel any distance. So no matter if the FBI/DHS/Soros cabal flies in heavily armed rioters, they are still entitled to gun down anyone that isn't in 100% support of the advancement of Marxism in this land.

South African Scientists knew about this new variant clear back in July.

Then amazingly, right after Pfizer and WHO claim this was "Just Discovered", a NEW AND IMPROVED "vaccine" just for this so called variant magically appears out of nowhere.

Then we have the fact that this "Variant" showed up down in Australia, where anyone who hasn't taken The Jab isn't allowed in or out of the country. How is that supposed to work? That reflects the level of intellectual rigor that is now standard for politicians and the people who listen to them.

Completely incapable of considering second order effects like what fuel prices have to do with practically anything that requires transport. Furthermore, gasoline is a fraction of a refinery's output and thus the forces that cause the price of gasoline to rise are correlated to the price increase of all other petroleum products - which include plastics, fertilizer, diesel, heating oil, medicines, synthetic materials, etc.

She kept asking for a public apology so I told Ilhan Omar that she should make a public apology to the American people for her anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-police rhetoric. She continued to press, and I continued to press back. And then, Representative Omar hung up on me. Rejecting an apology and hanging up on someone is part of cancel culture 101 and a pillar of the Democrat party," she continued.

Glad Boebert is drawing a line, wish she had refused to apologize but she's a decent person thinking decency counts in DC (it doesn't). This is all a game to Omar. Boebert needs to read Ayan Hirsi Ali's "Infidel" to understand Omar, as she plays by Somali rules and values, not Western Civ's rules and values. In fact, the goal is to destroy our values and traditions.

For now. I suspect, however, that it's just the opening salvo. We should expect that novel viruses become easier to transmit but less severe as they evolve. That is solid evolutionary strategy ("spread more, kill less" is a more successful balance than anything involving "kill more" when one depends on the other).

But it isn't about South Africa. They won't be the villain for long, and they are only collateral damage. Only on paper. They want fuel taxes. Fuel taxes fund the roads and much more. Better economy means less fuel consumption and less tax revenue. This is also a problem with hybrid cars and especially electric cars. But because of the contradiction you noted - "you told me I should get more fuel-efficient cars, and then I did, and now you tax me for it, and that makes no sense" - they don't like excise taxes for it. No annual "hybrid fee" or "EV tax offset" at registration time. No, instead they will do things like GPS trackers to do a straight mileage tax.

Gasoline taxes, at least for Texas, are split between the CRT/Sodomy promoting edjumukashun cabal and general revenue.

With the whole world moving to Florida and Texas, and no one is building anything, property values and taxes are skyrocketing to make up for the short-fall in any gasoline excise tax revenue.

And as it stands, EVs are just a tiny fraction of vehicles on the road so it isn't any factor.

I doubt they'll try to mandate it for the existing fleet. They might (make registration dependent on installation of a GPS device), but I sort of doubt it. It will likely be an "all new cars shall have such devices" thing, with fleet turnover taking care of it over the course of 10-20 years. Like airbags and ABS brakes.

And they won't care about the foreigners without GPS trackers. They also won't care about preferred groups flouting the rules and ripping them out when the time comes. A mileage tax would be easy to accomplish without a massively complex GPS tracking system (do an odo reading at registration time), so why do it? To expand the panopticon. Any money it raises will just be icing on the cake.

112 "Families that own an electric vehicle won't ever have to worry about gasoline prices"

However, they might still have to worry about gas TAXES -- if electric vehicles get too popular, gas tax revenues will crater and what will state and federal government do to replace that revenue? Last year, an IL legislator seriously proposed charging license plate fees of $1,000 per year for electric cars (the normal fee is $150 per year) on the grounds that this would make up for the motor fuel taxes they weren't paying.

Yeah, especially if there are alternatives. NY always surprised me with their stupidity on this. Almost no one in NY lives more than 90 minutes from another state or an Indian reservation. When I was in college, some enterprising young men made a bundle running out to the Res to buy cartons of smokes and reselling them to students for a lower price than NY's insane post-tax costs.

And then the ultimate alternative, the e-cig, is under an all-out assault. They aren't smoking-cessation devices, but they really do work for that. And that's bad. 133 Morning peeps....

People who own EV's will have a host of other things to worry about besides gasoline prices. Everyone knows the cost for charging an EV will vary on the cost of oil. As I mentioned a couple days ago; maintenance on EV's is a cross between IT, electrical engineering and mechanics. It's also very, very expensive assuming parts are available. And, yes, taxes. The governments, local, state and national will want a cut.

But this collection of misfits, degenerates, mindless fools and social retards running the country doesn't understand basic economics nor anything else about the real world.

THIS
Since smart and idiot designations are subjective, let's agree that we cannot assume they have the same goal, or even good goals in mind with their policies. Pete may be an idiot, but how about someone ask him what his goal is by pushing people into electric cars instead of just taking his "it's cheaper than gas" justification? Especially since his POTUS intentionally made gas so expensive. Why not implement policies to reduce gas prices as PDT did, eh?

So much of what they do is nudging us into their imagined "new normal" -- where none of the consequences of their horrid policies affect them. Defund police, decriminalize crime, open the border and ignite a race war -- it's all good, that will give them the demand for a "fix" that turns us into Klaus' dream society.

150 So I see that Suozzi turned down Mayor elect Adams' offer for Deputy Mayor position earlier this week. I guess Suozzi saw it for what it was, an attempt to divert him from primarying Lattetia James for the NY Gov slot. Suozzi had correctly surmised that he had no shot at returning to the House of Reps given the red nature of his district.

But Suozzi is going to get ran over if the DNC gets behind James - NY AGs always run for NY Governor and it's considered by Dems the proper stepping stone to this position. Suozzi oozes charm from every pore, a characteristic James sorely lacks. The upcoming Dem primary is going to be lit.

CO has this, too. The "ownership tax" and it's preposterous. Not only is it multiple taxation, it isn't even based on reality. It starts based on "original taxable value" which is, IIRC, 85% of MSRP. So if you negotiate hard on a car and get the price down, your "taxable value" is still the same. And it decays for years 0-7 until it hits zero after 7 years (the car officially has no taxable value).

My old "valueless" car was around $72 to register. My brand new car in 2017 was over $600 and kept being hundreds of dollars. Then I moved. In my new state, it was less than $30 including the title transfer.

But the average cost of a new electric vehicle was $55,600 in 2019, nearly $20,000 more than the average price of all new cars, Quartz reported. Charging an electric car with a range of 200 miles costs about $9 and typically takes around eight hours.

Moreover, 60% of electricity generated in the U.S. originates from fossil fuel power plants, according to the EIA. Wind and solar account for 10% of the electricity produced nationwide.

Also, the US govt would have to be permanently banned from ever having access to even the anonymized data.)

But (as social media demonstrates) most people are willing to give away their metadata for free. I guess they do not know how valuable that data is.

Question I had recently. In New Jersey you are still not allowed to pump your own gas, you must have an attendant do it. Anybody know if the same rules apply to electric cars?

Posted by: moon_over_vermont at November 30, 2021 08:40 AM (NenxG)

193 Most charging stations that I've seen require a credit card. Where they exist in the wild to lure in the neck beardo's into Whole Foods or some other Socialist Shopping Experience and are "free" will soon cease as the incentive credits dry up.

Also, the cost to have one installed in your garage is about a grand. There are two different levels, thus two charging rates like cell phones; normal and "fast." IIRC the setup required for the Ford Lightning F-150 EV is unique for the top tier model and runs many thousands of dollars for install... probably by Ford.

The actual politicians are generally stupid and have no idea what's going on. Them calling for the Strategic Oil Reserve to open up seems like a good idea because it'll increase supply while doing nothing to demand. Even someone with the most basic understanding of economics can grasp that. However, it takes a special kind of idiot to think that the amount of oil in question will have any kind of impact beyond a couple of days at best.

It does help to a certain degree. I've been dealing with back stuff since I was in high school and have seen a number of chiropractors and back docs over the years and there are things that can be done to ease the pain and you are absolutely right about strengthening the core muscles.

226 ... But the average cost of a new electric vehicle was $55,600 in 2019, nearly $20,000 more than the average price of all new cars, Quartz reported. Charging an electric car with a range of 200 miles costs about $9 and typically takes around eight hours. ...

Car 1 gets about 24 MPG in mixed driving, so that is 4.12 gallons of fuel at $3.10 per gallon average, for a total of $12.77. Refuel time to that level is about four minutes (counting pump interaction and payment).

Car 2 gets about 17 MPG in mixed driving, so that is 11.77 gallons of fuel at $3.10 per gallon average, for a total of $36.49. Refuel time is the same as for car 1.

So the savings in cost is $3.77 per 200 miles, or 1.885 cents per mile in Car 1, and 13.745 cents per mile for Car 2. The cheapest general-purpose EV in the same size/feature range as Car 1 has a base price of $38k, versus Car 1's base price of $25k. So the spread is around $10k, and at 1.885 cents per mile, that means I have to drive around 531k miles to hit the break-even, assuming gas prices and electricity prices both hold and it assumes time is worthless.

And if you lose power for a week during Hurricane season, good luck charging that car at your house.
People in the WH are completely clueless when it comes to states that border the coastline and have never been in a car on the freeway during a mass exodus. If your car runs out of gas you can get your gas can and walk over to the nearest gas station. If your electric car dies your screwed.

If everyone bought electric cars there could never be enough charging stations for that amount of vehicles. Imagine the long lines to charge your car because it takes a couple of hours versus 5 mins to fill it up with gas.

This is why Trump is also at fault for this bullshit. He SHOULD'VE pimped the TREATMENTS, which were HIGHLY effective and PREVENTED deaths and provided the opportunity for NATURAL IMMUNITY. even here in PA they didn't close the grocery stores. everything else was closed at one point but not them, not the pharmacies either. I remember for a while Wawa in-store was closed you couldn't go in. but you could order for takeout and get gas.

That isn't how immunity works. Short duration, mild infections don't call in the T-cells, the general all-purpose immune system can deal with the problem.

So when they were telling people that the Clot Shot reduces severity of symptoms, what they were also telling you is that when you still get Fauci's Chimera, it may prevent your own body from forming true immunity due to the specialization cells not being brought in and trained.

Yeah, at least for people with mild office-chair type sciatica, this is really good advice.

I saw a physical therapist for it, and she gave me a bunch of stretching exercises and leg lifts that basically did nothing. But then some light weight training (if it even deserves to be called that -- I was just doing kettle bell swings and goblet squats for 10 minutes a day) cured it completely.

If I quit doing the kettlebell for a couple of weeks, it comes back. Start again, and it fixes.

They have a dozen or so at the VA parking garage in Dallas, have never seen a single car parked at any of the spots. Federal law dictates that any new Federal facilities that are built that have parking must have electric car charging stations. At some point, I can't recall the year, all existing Federal facilities are going to have to be retrofitted with them.

Posted by: Mister Scot (Formerly GWS) at November 30, 2021 09:07 AM (bVYXr)

293 The thing about batteries and DC power, the figures they are providing in terms of range and re-charging times are very much skewed to the best possible case scenario. It doesn't always stay 77 deg. F.

Battery life is an ambient temperature function. As the temperature decreases, the internal resistance increases, and current output declines dramatically. The speed at which re-charging can be accomplished also slows.

They also don't account for the fact that as batteries age, their current capacity declines. They are also surprisingly made up of a shitload of small cells. It is important that every cell in a battery is on the same page in terms of charge, internal resistance, age, temperature, even lot numbers.

With people who are mechanically or electrically inclined shall we say, these numbers are not very good. With the average idiot out there who can't even change a tire? I predict Epic Clusterfuck Dumpster Fire. And probably lots of garage fires, too. Batteries are dangerous as hell at these potential energy levels, way worse than gasoline.

And they could be right. Who knows. None of the existing technology can make this scheme work. If there's another industrial and engineering revolution waiting around the corner, then it's possible - but none of what will make it possible exists today.

And if there is such a revolution waiting to burst forth, then none of the government mandates being discussed will amount to a hill of beans anyway. If it happens, people will flock to it on their own. If such a thing is not waiting in the wings, the mandates will fail once enough people get stranded and die.

When the electrical demand goes up, the torque needed to spin the windmill gets hire. The wind speed, however, does not go up.

A power plant sends more steam to the turbine when the electrical demand goes up. Windmills do not respond to demand. It's their fatal flaw.

How is the company mandating a vaccine after the 5th circuit already said the federal government mandate is unconstitutional?

The US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued a temporary stay of the Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). That litigation pertains to OSHA's authority to issue the ETS as a government mandate. The ruling does not impact the ability of private employers to implement their own vaccine mandates.

Motherfuckers.

Why does the vaccine mandate only apply to the salaried NBU workforce and not the hourly workforce?

The EEOC has stated that federal anti-discrimination laws do not prohibit employers from mandating vaccines provided they consider accommodation requests based on medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs. Accordingly, we believe the mandate does not disregard any rights of salaried employees. For employees who are covered by collective bargaining agreements, we are continuing to evaluate our policy while assessing pending federal vaccine requirements and any collective bargaining obligations.

They don't. And it's invisible and non-tangible. It doesn't feel like it costs anything because nothing real exits your life and enters theirs. It seems like nothing but it isn't, and that makes it easy to talk people into giving it away. Combine that with money and power to get the state to forbid you from opting out (or even transferring ownership back to you), and it's a messy witch's brew of spying and oppression.

Possible, but if they are doing well they could debt finance growth or expansion.

In my experience the viable exit strategies for a startup are sale of the company or IPO. Both usually require a positive growth story and in the case of tangible goods positive cash flow and profitability. You used to be able to get away with more intangible things like page views and "sticky eyeballs" in the dot com days but that is not as popular as it used to be.

It could be a fire sale but you usually don't see that path coupled with an IPO. But it's "internet news" so who knows.

383 I really hope that Omicron is what it looks like it is, which is a highly contagious but very mild form of SARS-2.

That's literally a "best case" scenario. It'll tear through the population, give us all a harmless case of the sniffles, and then essentially die out once we all have good natural immunity.

One quibble, the lede that "all viruses always get less deadly with time" isn't a universal thing. Remember that mutations in a virus are completely random, and the only thing that causes this to be generally true is that a virus that kills the host generally doesn't spread as well, and so is out-competed by the random mutations that don't kill.

The problem is that I don't personally believe that the pressures on COVID19 necessarily will select for less deadliness specifically because it has a long "asymptomatic yet contagious" period where it can spread without the carrier knowing it. This might allow for a highly deadly strain to evolve and succeed, since the "killing your host is bad" pressure is less marked with such a virus.

So, at least preliminarily, Omicron looks like it might be the beginning of the end.

At some points, the old flake sounds like an old time Democrat in defending the Constitution, saying all the amendments but the 2nd have been cancelled during the last year (although they're not quartering troops in our houses yet in violation of the 3rd. He also says we should love our freedom more than we fear a germ. I enjoy seeing such cracks in the Democrat coalition.

You are correct about virus and that they can mutate into a more lethal strain. I knew it when I hit post.

Anyway, this one is doing as we thought, but the junta is pimping it into Andromeda Strain 2 - We're All Gonna Die Boogaloo.

390 ". Just like all mutations and variants of viruses are less lethal than the previous, "

Might wanna check that a bit.
SARS-1 About 10% lethal
MERS (same family) 30% lethal.

1917 Spanish Flu - Bad, infection to fatality ratio somewhere around 3% in the USA.
1918 Wave 2 of Spanish Flu: - Wiped out several entire villages. In the USA, 2nd wave alone killed about 300K, at a time when our population was 1/5th of today.
Third and 4th waves were worse that 1917, less severe than 1918.
