David Lynch is pretty weird so that makes sense. Making the "weird bits seem normal in the context of the world in which the story takes place" is kinda what any decent skiffy / fantasy author *has* to do, to get us to buy into their story. Good for Villeneuve.

...also, "the two Dunes" makes me think of "the two yutes".

"Rat Fink" was an Ed Barris signature artwork, featuring a hyped-up Rat, with huge bloodshot eyes, tongue hangin' out, wearing a helmet in the German "coal bucket" style, a vest, and usually at the helm of a T-bucket type hot rod, one paw on the whee, and the other on the highly elevated Hurst shifter.

Often found in the pages of Hot Rod magazine, salted amongst it's many advertisers. Fact is, I think it's still in vogue in the Hot Rod and Rockabilly world, even now.

I stand corrected on the Rat Fink's creator. I was thinking of the many custom cars created by Barris (Burris?) Still, they're of the same era and field of zany automotive expression.
And a genuine Roth pinstriped Harley tank would be worth a small fortune, today. One advertiser that associated with Rat Fink, I believe was Moon Hubcaps.

Cars then were more fun, if a bit less functional, then ours now. We get safety, handling, mileage, comfort and longevity. They had nitro, headers, wheelies, and terror. Oh, so very much terror! lol

Armadillos are something of a delicacy in the Argentine Pampas. You find one and keep it in a barrel with dirt at the bottom to fatten it up, and then you roast them.

I wouldn't try them other than to be a good guest at a campfire though, they like to find a dead cow and dig a hole under it, and eat on the dead cow carcass until it is nothing but bones.

The Guarani word for armadillo is "tatu" and it is used in the Rio de Plata region and in Brazil.

In the early 90's, I worked as the photo editor at a local daily newspaper. One day, the Weekly World News called me. There had been a cold-case murder solved in the county where we were located, and they wanted a copy of the murderer's mugshot (pre-internet days). I said I didn't know if I could do that. Then they said they'd give me $150. So I went to the State Police barracks, told the desk sergeant what was up, and he gave me a copy of the mugshot and said I owed him a beer. I don't know if they ever used the photo or what crazy twist they may have put on the story, but I kept the check stub for many years as a souvenir.

Of course the answer was not "well lets give the allied aid groups some coffee and donuts for their troops too" Salvation Army was a religious group and FDR couldn't give them orders.

We had an Ernie Anderson connection through my dad.

About Papa Johns. It wasn't when they went against the NFL that they started to die. It was when they sacrificed their founder to the woke mob. Everyone abandoned them then.

And another thing they got wrong is Bojangles are also still in Georgia all along the coast.

Red Lobster is my least fave. I don't care what others like, but if you are going to drop a C note, it should be good. They themselves admit it is the biscuits. Think about that, they cost them a couple of bucks at most.

The lobster is often overcooked, and the veggies and sides are worse than grammar school. No problem if people like it. From my experience, a reasonably priced seafood place you can go to regularly is rare. If you are not in a traditional seafood area, it is rare as hen's teeth.

Easy mistake to make but there you are. Does anybody know how to retrieve an archived version?

Some armadillos have the capacity to delay development of fetuses up to a couple of years, and if the fetuses are all the same sex then the mother might hold back one fertilized egg and allow it to split four ways for identical twins.
That would be handy for a climate that can be hit and miss like a desert

I never went to one because I don't do seafood. I finally went to one for the first time a few years ago, because the group I was with said yeah you can get a steak. The one around here has an actual bar, and you can eat at the bar (No clue if thats how they all are). To my surprise it was a decent steak, and the long ice teas had serious horsepower. It was not an unpleasant night.

I think that is part of the problem, the hires that have no idea of how the world works, don't pay attention and know their mastery of everything led them to a college degree. They know this is their chance to remake the world in their own image, and can't get their heads around the idea that a majority of people they depend on will say "no way, you are ugly"

390 The thing is, I can see the meeting now:

Chairman/woman: What the heck were you thinking?! Have you seen the reaction? *sigh* We are going to have to issue a retraction and try to salvage this. YOU need to be fired or apologize.

Spokesman under the bright light: But Why?

Chairman: You called our donors racists AND told them to admit it and beg forgiveness.

Spokesman: Yes. And? They ARE racists. They're white.

sounds good to me. I haven't had their steak. When I do go there, I ask them to take the lobster out five minutes early. Trust me, it is already done. My main complaint is the sides. It is not that difficult for a major business to add a bit of individuality to them. It is not like the place is cheap.
