  • Hololive just announced holoX, which is their sixth generation of Japanese talents. Where Prism went all Fractured Fairy Tales with their latest generation, holoX is pretty much Gatchaman in Vtuber form.

The usual process is they announce an audition, and then you don't hear anything for five months, then there's a couple of teaser trailers before they announce the new talents and their debut schedule.

This time they just went straight to Z; the announcement was four hours ago and the first debut stream is four hours from now.

Meanwhile all the other generations are playing Pokemon. They just got surprise blanket permission to stream - apparently - every Pokemon game ever, and they're not looking a gift Ponyta in the mouth.

And yeah, I am thankful for Hololive. They - and Nijisanji, and Prism, and Kson, and Vyolfers' little group - have been all that's kept me sane the past year or so.

23 That toy story reminds me of my recent trevails with a Vizio sound bar. I came home to my sister and mother upset because the sound bar was blasting something unrelated to what they were trying to watch. My first assumption was that somebody was connecting via Bluetooth and playing tracks on their phone. I found I could change the tracks to choose between half a dozen different forms of horrible. The default was a rap piece by a performer on the verge of falling into a coma and whose every fourth or fifth word was 'fuck'.

After some research it turn out this was 'demo mode'. It could be exiled by installing a firmware update, which took three or four tries to get right on a device that has no display. So the 'demo mode' was stopped and some features were upgraded. Now I have to ponder whether I ever want to buy anything else from a company with such poor taste in what to inflict on passing shoppers. If that is their target market, I want to stay well apart from it.

But I'd like to pick on Pixy for tiny things. Like, if you link to a comment's permalink, it looks like

What sticks out in my mind in 2003, on the eve of my leaving for Iraq, is my husband carrying my youngest daughter, who was ten at the time, away from me as she was screaming, "Mommy, don't leave me!" as I was boarding the bus to the airfield at Ft. Hood.

No, I didn't feel very heroic then, and sure as hell don't feel heroic now.

It was heroic. We met my dad in Hawaii between Vietnam tours. I was too young to remember any of it.

She should be very proud. Not reaching into an area I don't belong. But we all go our own way. My dad did two in Vietnam and took a bullet.

At nine my dad went abroad for a year. Sure it wasn't war, but it was the next best thing. I get both sides of it. If it were war when i was nine, I could see that as being a major issue to say the least.

42 SMH, Quint.

Those airport goodbyes are the worst.
One of the boys, when he was little, would run run down the driveway and then right before he got on the bus turn and give me this goofy little wave. Every damn day.

He grew up and moved on and I forgot about it. His last deployment I took him to the airport and after we said our 'See you laters', he ran up to the gate, turned around and gave me that same goofy little wave again, as an adult.

Ouch. Got me right in the feels.

44
The 'default mode' of my refrigerator after a power outage is to go into 'display mode' with no cooling whatsoever. Then you have to hit some strange combination of keys for three seconds.

As we continue our fixation of becoming the next Venezuela and power outages become more common, I added a post-it note to the frig with the key codes written down. But if I take a vacation and go away for a week, and there's a power outage, I'm coming home to a very bad smell.

Ain't technology wonderful?

89 Mawnin', folk!

Up only 1/2 hr. earlier than I planned. An afternoon nap yesterday and then staying up until the dizzying hour of 10:30 pm seems to make a difference (?). How did everyone's T-Day go? Miss Linda and I walked in our neighborhood in the morning, and then drove out to the 'burbs in the evening. The place where we had our reservation is opulent and dim, not cheap, but all the waitresses were face diaper-free. They did have a special Thanksgiving menu for $38. I opted for seasoned redfish. With tip (which I left for the waitress in cash -- no need for FJB to know about it), I got away with about $100!

One must not deny the power of the pie. It's simply a recipe for disaster.

I don't know why I awoke at 0330 today either. I have to visit and old friend at her restaurant today and help out. Maybe that was swirling around in my little pea brain. The good thing is - I can nap later if I want.

They might hear your breathing change. Wolf the great black cat seemed to know as well; I'd be lying in bed, really hadn't moved since my eyes fluttered open, and then he'd be up near my head, purring. His habit to nudge me to rise was to pat my hair, and skull, with one big paw. I'd feel those claws, brush him off -- but then I couldn't go back to sleep.

I didn't used to be a morning person. When I was a drama major in college, rehearsals were generally in the afternoons and evenings, and shows at night. 182 As a kid in the 600 person small town, we just raked the leaves to the curb and set them on fire. Loved the smell of burning leaves. Now, the FD would be called followed by the town cops with a ticket, followed by the EPA with a huge fine, and jail.

183 There was a new addition to the dessert menu last night. Pumpkin bread, and it was quite well received!

Not by me though....the pecan pie was perfect. And there is enough left over for breakfast!

Streisand effect. Nothing good comes from whining about being insulted... you just give oxygen to the insult.

185 My Christmas shopping is almost finished. It's a first. But then I don't have a big family. Kids and grand get something from LLBean and I am putting together a breakfast basket. I picked up some blueberry pancake mix, good syrup and 3 lbs of thick pepper bacon. I need to pull out the sewing machine and finish the apron and pot holders. Figure I can pick up a basket at Hobby Lobby.

Have some little things for cow-orkers too.

Looks like PA gets a new Senator next year. I've only seen one advertisement so far, a woman who seems to be in the mold of Marjorie Taylor Greene. I already forgot her name.

189 "So - how's Little VIA, and tell us about the girlfriend!! "

Both of them are well, and obviously care very much for each other.

Best way to briefly give a feel is...

It was wonderful watching her and Mrs VIA cutting up and laughing while sharing the kitchen and food prep portion. And Mrs VIA doesn't share her kitchen with very many people.

Feels like we have known her for years.

195 And what were your favorite roles as a drama major, Wolfus?
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at November 26, 2021

***
I suppose, looking back, that I wasn't terribly good. Even in college I didn't get cast in major roles in the big major productions. I loved doing comedy, though.

My favorite was in an original one-act called "Gof." I was the scruffy acolyte, "Monk," to a nutty Prophet who believed the end of the world was coming: that Gof, the one true god, was going to "turn the world into a giant pimple, and all the sinners would be at the bottom where it was red and sore." At the climax, midnight on the big day, all the characters are on stage. Blackout. Beat, beat, and then my voice quavers out in the darkness: "Prophet? Is this what the inside of a pimple looks like?"

200 "Things that matter to those of us who grew up with 300 baud modems."

You haven't lived until you've tried to do data entry via a 300-baud acoustic coupler. What joy it is to *almost* complete a form, only to have someone slam the door, the noise of which the coupler picks up and transmits to the remote system as a burst of garbage. You kids have it *so* easy these days!
