Party Like It's 1979 Video of the Day

I've never seen the video for this before. Not sure how it managed to escape from 1959. I expect Sam Beckett was involved.

2 That last video has the same kind of unreality to it that the Hippopotamus for Christmas video does.

My guess it was for a TV sitcom or talent show type of thing.

4 Anyone else not feeling too holiday-ish?

I'll be cooking for 3 this Thursday. Meh. Our parents are all gone, all but one sibling far lives far away (hence, our one guest) and a couple of libtard aunts/uncles who wouldn't sup with us even if they didn't have large families of their own to gather 'round.

Will call my grandma tomorrow-- she's 100s of miles away too, also is the last of The Older Ones. She has stage 4 cancer-- who knows how much longer she'll live? Doubt she has another 6 months... but gotta have the clotshot to visit her, so no, I'll never be able to hug her again. Sad.

5 Yay me, I took advantage of a not-too-cold day and put up the Christmas lights!

No, not plugging them in until Friday. One holiday at a time, right?

7 I'll be cooking for 3 this Thursday.

That was going to be our Thanksgiving: me, ursine wife, and my mom. But me and wife have been so sick for 2 weeks (flu, I thought, but maybe Covid or something else - who knows) that we three mutually decided not to have mom over so we don't inadvertently kill her. So, no Thanksgiving. What a deal.

8 Hi, BWAB. Sorry you're sick and the holiday plans went haywire. Good that you're protecting Mom, though.

10 I'm almost ready to call bro and cancel Thursday's meal. He's only showing up out of a sense of duty and will leave asap like always. Why bother?

Hubby doesn't care, just wants supper of some kind and then he'll snooze.

Okay, I've been laughing so hard I nearly pissed myself. Two things previously have made me laugh that hard: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World, and the antics of Inspector Clouseau (such as the Salty Swedish Sea Dog).

Well, I just saw the third one. There's a meme with Biden with a little Hitler moustache. The caption reads, "Heil Shitler!"

I got to laughing so hard, poor Miley thought I'd flipped my lid as she was gonna have to put me in Marshall Pickens (that's the local lunatic asylum).

13 All work and no play.

Sorry to hear it. I get where you are coming from. Not much fun to go to the work for something that no one seems to care about much. I wish we could all (I mean me too) consciously be more thankful on Thanksgiving. Maybe one of the things we as a country are lacking these days: actual thankfulness.

That said, I've gone native since coming to Texas. I'd rather have tamales or fajitas or something than turkey and dressing. My wife is not having any of this business though.

Sequencing and just damn plain odds, showed that the virus 100% came from the lab, since the particular dna sequence has only been seen in lab created viruses, and that despite searching for bats with this virus they never found one, but some green grocer went and grabbed a few bats and those just happened to have the virus that the scientist could never find.

Ha!

Several weeks ago I spent an evening watching gulls feeding on perch at a nearby lake. It was so much fun to watch them swoop and dive. They'd fly away with the fish in their beak and flip it to swallow whole while flying. Others would fly around the one who had the fish and try to steal it! It was all so mesmermizing to watch. Amazing how they could see a fish in the water from so high up, dive down and grab it.

Thanksgiving I always enjoy.
The last few years, due to my SIL usually working on T-Day, we started to have a morning brunch. Which I enjoyed much more than turkey.
Late, wife and I might go to a movie and then she would make a casserole with chicken, stove top stuffing, mushroom soup etc. Plus cranberry sauce.
Works for me.

52 And this year we have a BIG celebration for my sisters 70th B-day which is on T-Day.
We'll celebrate that PLUS my niece's looooooooong time boyfriend finally popped the question. That will take place on Wednesday night. Thursday my niece will have the T-Day dinner at her condo also. We will not go to that though. She doesn't really have enough places to sit comfortably for me, there will be about 14 people and 10 places to sit anyway. Plus, the Bears game will have to be watched by my BIL and nieces fiancé. And my BIL will have the TV on ear bleed level while he also yells at the TV and then tells us in 20/20 hindsight the play that they should have run.

55 Morning, folk! That Dodie Stevens video was cool. I have a faint memory of hearing that song on the car radio before I ever went to school. In 1977 I worked for a small AM/FM station in Ville Platte, LA, which boasted a huge library of oldies 45s. They had each one labeled as to format, CW for country, RK for rock, etc. RA was their designation for what had once been called "race" records, rhythm & blues and early crossover records by black artists.

For some reason "Pink Shoelaces" had the RA designation. Damned if I can figure why.

59 As for the Racey video, the guy with the shortest hair there playing guitar in front might, I say might, have passed in a 1962-64 performance on Ed Sullivan -- but he'd have had to wear a jacket and tie. The others would have had hair too long. So even the video is not really a 1959 flavor.

I don't know the song. It seems a pretty catchy tune. But I don't think my local Top 40 AM outlet played it in '79.

61 No one will be here on Thursday but #1 son and mom, and me after work. Everyone else in extended family has other plans. Mr I and youngest son will be visiting with a friend from out of town that invited us all to that place, but I can't get mom there, so no.

So I made my turkey yesterday. Stuffed it, made extra for a casserole dish of stuffing on the side, butternut squash, mashed potatoes ('cause I use the water from boiling them for the gravy) and baked pumpkin custard.

Carcass is in freezer for making stock later in week.

Rest of it is going to be eaten over the next few days and frozen for whenever.

I had some turkey I pulled off when carving it up and a spoonful of stuffing. Taste tested the squash and custard. Didn't make the cranberry sauce, though! (I forgot ) but I did drink a glass of cranberry juice!

65 Miss Linda and I drove up to the closer Cracker Barrel last night for an early dinner. I love going there. She had the deep-fried turkey dinner, while I plumped for lemon pepper grilled trout. Maybe it was me -- I haven't had trout in a long time -- but I kept getting a hint of . . . turpentine . . . in it. It couldn't actually have been, since I haven't gotten violently ill. But it was the first time at CB I've ever been less than enthused about the fare there.

Anyway, it was a great drive up and back. The Buick loves to run and it travels on the rare Loozy-ana good road as if it's on rails. Maybe we'll go back for breakfast on Xmas Eve.

82 Another thing about Cracker Barrel: Up by the register they offer candy and mint selections I haven't seen in years, like Life Savers Wint O Green and Reed's Root Beer.

In the toy and gimcrackery part of the store, they offered several products in the Perfect Petzzz line. Remember those in the kiosk in your local mall a few years ago? A toy puppy or kitten, beautifully fashioned, curled up in a little pet bed, with soft synthetic fur . . . and a battery inside makes the pet appear to breathe. It's really kind of creepy. And creepier still, their ads on their website show adults, not just children, with one. The "petzzz" even come with a little brush for the synth fur, and an "adoption certificate" . . .

151 Both sides are wrong. The cause of the 100,000 deaths is the normalization of hard drug use and the liberalization of drug laws. Many of those deaths were of children poisoned after taking what they thought were prescription drugs they had bought from dealers they met through Snapchat. Many others were of addicts who had first gotten hooked on prescription opioids, then switched to heroin, and more recently to fentanyl.

Correction: ...poisoned after taking fentanyl they thought was prescription drugs they had bought from dealers they met through Snapchat. Many others were of addicts who had first gotten hooked on prescription opioids, then switched to heroin, which was actually pure fentanyl.

Two things. First, unlike FORTRAN (modern Fortran only has the F capitalized, but I last did FORTRAN programming in the mid-1980's) and C, I've never programmed in COBOL. Second, the CP/M system I have (an SBC2 built up from a bare board) didn't come with COBOL compiler.
