The Madame Hayward dress makes me realize that I've really come to appreciate the lines of the Edwardian dresses, particularly when contrasted with the bizarre silhouettes of the late Victorian era. They're almost like the contrast between the late 1700s (think Marie Antoinette) and early 1800s (think Jane Austen).

Posted by: You Really Don't Want to Know at November 20, 2021 05:53 PM (Sz733) That's what I originally thought, too, but it doesn't quite go that way. Black's king is forced to hide on c1 once and only once. The solution involves a tricky move wherein Black is allowed to queen his pawn. Posted by: vmom - link to Red's fundraiser at November 20, 2021 06:00 PM Interesting: https://bit.ly/3oPo4ae Judkins talked about how the series will compare to other fantasy stories audiences may already be familiar with. He noted that when the books first released in 1990, they were quite revolutionary, with an ensemble cast, multiple points of view in the narrative, and the fact that the main characters were split between men and women instead of focusing heavily on one gender. He went on to recognize that The Wheel of Time is heavily influenced by eastern philosophies like Hinduism and Buddhism, and that at the end of the day the story isn't so much a fight over good versus evil as it is an attempt to restore a sense of balance to the world. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks Now With Pumpkin Spice! at November 20, 2021 06:02 PM (FVME7) Smash & I saw it today in the theater. Dialog was slow in some places, they should've given Ant Man more screen time. Overall, solid B- -to- C+. Exactly what it was billed to be, a fsmily movie following the ghostbusters theme. It has two cuts in the credits. The 2nd one is funny. Theater is an 18 screen place. We caught a noon show. There weren't enough cars in the parking lot to pay for the staff running the joint. I believe theaters are going out of business, divest yoir stocks if you still have any in those business lines. Posted by: BifBewalski @ (IJES/) - at November 20, 2021 06:07 PM (IJES/) 91

Posted by: I'm the Honey Badger, BITCH! at November 20, 2021 06:02 PM (9BID/) He was 2798.9 behind Ding Liren. Agadmator said 2799 because FIDE rounds up but the new rating list comes out monthly and he might drop if he lost a game. Today he drew with Grischuk but his starting rating was 3 points behind Grischuk so there was no gain or loss. I think there is one game left in the tournament and he's likely to be up against someone he can beat because it's a team tournament. Netflix has been busy this last week releasing two good movies:
"Outlaw/King" is very much a historical action flick in the olde-fashioned Hollywood mold. It concerns the story of Robert the Bruce after William Wallace was killed. Chris Pine(?), anyway the Kirk Mach 2.0 guy, is actually quite good as the Bruce. Action, romance, a bit of on-point and historical gore. Doesn't reinvent the wheel but you have a good time. Check it out. "Red Notice" is a basic nuevo-Hollywood action flick with the Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Godot. It's fun and silly. a goodish timekiller. Thomas Bender I have been watching all of the Route 66 episodes. I'm on season 3. It's very interesting to watch and how many times God is mentioned in many of the episodes sort of blew my mind. Tod waxes philosophical in many of them and the message was always positive. That was lost on me when I watched as a wee lass. I was too mesmerized by George Mahris lol! Next up will be Adam 12. I also thought Martin Milner was a cutie.

Hi nurse. I have a small neighborhood beach a few minutes walk away and it's now officially dogs off the leash friendly so Elvis and I went for a walk there today. It was in the low forties here today but hardly a breeze so the bay was completely calm which is a rarity. Saw a comment regarding Richards below.
I don't think he was referring to Barnes in his comment to the press. There was another lawyer who turned out to be a grifter, who was originally on the case. Barnes involvement in the trial had to do with jury selection only, and that is what he has been critical of all along. Barnes felt that there was too much risk not fighting for a good jury, and risking a random jury. Since the lead Karen ended up as the foreman, he has a point. Deliberations would have taken a few hours with a better jury. I don't think there is sniping between Barnes and Richards, and I do know that Barnes concern all along has been about Kyle. There is also a legal issue regarding the $2M bail. Legally, that goes back to the people who posted the bond, it doesn't go to Kyle. Barnes had negotiated a settlement for Kyle and family to keep about $1M of it. But the guy running the show (not Richards) fired Barnes from the team, because he wants part of that bail. From what I can tell both Richards (from his press conference) and Barnes are concerned that the guy running the show is going to use Kyle as a cash cow. And, Woo-Hoo! The Lark is back among the living. Got the engine started right on the dot of 4:00, and by 5:00 had been out and made a circuit of the 'hood. It will take a couple hundred miles of gentle driving for the new rings to seat, but already it is smoking vastly less than it did before. No obvious leaks, no nasty rattles, runs smoothly.

Hey, OregonMuse, my mate-in-4 solution for the intermediate problem is entirely different than yours!
1. Bd7+ Rxe7 2. Qxe7+ Kf8 3. Ne5 Here, black has many options. 4. Depending, mate is either Qd8# or Qxd8# or Qf7# or Qxf7# Posted by: bradc at November 20, 2021 10:02 PM (xTt/H) 324
The advanced problem is clever. White must allow black to queen his pawn, to avoid stalemate.

For the last chess puzzle I was thinking just get the pawn not mate. Maybe your way gets a faster mate, but I found this way to get the pawn. 1: Qb2 Kd3 2: Qc1 Kc3 3: Ke4 Kb3 4: Kd3 and the pawn is won.
