Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Quick HitsSchools face parents who want to ban critical race theory -- and don't get how teaching worksYou know what it takes to teach 8th grade? It takes a ninth grade education. That's not a joke; that's the real requirement. The teaching profession requires an Education degree not because that degree is difficult or useful but because it limits the number of teachers and therefore elevates the salaries they can demand. It's a guild maintenance grift. It's a guild/union-imposed requirement solely for purposes of limiting entrants into the field. Allowing any educated person with competence in the field to be taught would drive down their salaries from artificially inflated to something more like what the market would offer based on actual skill level. Because literally any educated person can do this. This is why teachers get angry at programs like NYC's initiative to bring in people without education degrees to teach in city schools. They know these people can do the jobs -- but they don't want the fake value of their fake credentials diminished. She thinks her education degree makes her a Scientist. No really, she does. Let her Sciencesplain this to you. Even then there was no shortage of parental input about the content of my instruction, from books to test questions. Part of the problem is that parents think they have the right to control teaching and learning because their children are the ones being educated. But it actually (gasp!) doesn't work that way. It's sort of like entering a surgical unit thinking you can interfere with an operation simply because the patient is your child. Teaching, too, is a science. Unless they're licensed and certified, parents aren't qualified to make decisions about curricula. In fact, parental interference can actually hinder student advancement. An educator's primary goal is to teach students to think. Parents who attempt to influence curricula with their personal opinions, ideologies and biases hinder that goal.Christopher Rufo looked up this Scientist's background, and found she is... about what you'd expect her to be. Someone who, in his words, has elevated her mental illness into a political ideology. Does forcing kids to sit through a Drag Show with sexual twerking, and to participate in it, count as CRT? Or are we calling this Science? That drag-queen story. Wow. This podcast is timely, from New Discourses, on sexual grooming in gov't schools: https://tinyurl.com/54me5zfsI'll be listening to that on my hike tomorrow. John Kennedy called Biden's communist, literally Soviet-trained thief and nominee for Comptroller of the Currency "comrade" in her hearing and the Washington Post had a conniption: Why, this is... Red-Baiting! The mid-wits who stupidly believe themselves smart are killing us. Absolutely murdering us:
Many soy boys were among them, as were trannies overfed They were vicious, prone to violence, burning gas stations and more And their leader rode a skateboard rolling swiftly on the floor Swiftly on the floor It was over in a moment as the folks gathered around The skater sought the rifle as the youth lay on the ground Oh, he might've went on livin', but forgot one major thing And he fell down, shot dead by the kid with an AR on a sling AR on a sling

The "CRT isn't being taught" line is really based on this: Grade school teaching is always based on some theoretical basis, which while not itself taught directly, underlies all that is. Thus, in a traditional Catholic grade school, the 2nd graders don't actually read the Summa. But what they are taught does derive from it.

The 5th and 6th character is "te" and a small "i" (pronounced like a long "e") (all in katakana) That means you say "te", but use the "i" sound for the vowel. So "ti" But Japanese has a character for "ti" , but their "ti" is pronounced "chi". So they just took another "t" character and stuck the "i" on. All this is unofficial and you will be hard pressed to find it in any dictionary or list of katakana. Go to wiki page on katakana and you will see no mention. Now, of course this is a very common word, and most towns have a "city hall" (which is a funeral home) written using this completely unofficial character formation. This isn't just spelling, it is letter creation. Like if we took an "F" and added a loop on the bottom to make it sound like "FR" a whole new sound and a whole new character created out of thin air. Everyone understands it because it uses existing tools to create the sound, but it is all unofficial. Documented nowhere. It's like they refuse to admit it exists out of politeness to us English for having such an inferior sound. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at November 19, 2021 05:54 PM (I64Vf) 91
10 Have to disagree about Ed School. It's goal goes beyond what is described above. It actually is meant to EXCLUDE competent people from teaching. It means that those teaching will be worse teachers than you would have if you just randomly took people who could get into college.
Hell, back in my day (70s) it was precisely the dumbest students who went into Ed. And everyone knew it. I doubt they've gotten better. ___________ I know I should have figured it out by now, but I still do not get how the Left is able to stay together with such separate dogmas. It should fly to pieces. Lord knows that on our side, we're always fighting about shit. But somehow on the left, deviant sexuality counts as race. And both count as Islam. Yes. Basically you have to write a text that will offend neither TX nor CA, and good luck with that. At best you're going to wind up with boring pablum that offends nobody, but is merely deadly dull. Most states choose textbooks at the district level. CA and TX both choose them at the state level, and they are both very large and populous states. My shop teacher (let's say 29 years ago) let us make all manner of knives, swords, and other potentially dangerous things. The only thing he wouldn't let us take home was the cast-aluminum cannon, bored to take a piece of chalk, with a threaded breech plug bored for a firecracker fuse. If this was the plan for my fourth-grade teacher, she failed. (One of only two teachers I had who were single, and the other got married halfway through the school year.) In her defense, in spite of her having an elementary ed degree, she did churn out quite a few virulent anti-communists. And she would absolutely be shot if she tried to go teaching at an elementary school today for this and other reasons.

Rodrigo Borgia: "While I'm pretty proud of my teaching accomplishments, and (unlike some) worked hard at being a good teacher, it wasn't a 'science' under any reasonable definition of that term."
For the vast majority of applications, teaching is a task. The end user isn't really studying anything; they're applying something. It's not academic in that sense. However, there is some science by a much smaller subset in the discipline where actual science can be and is done. Like (and I'm making this up but go with me) how to design the optimal feedback mechanism of verbal cues and individuals with limited vocabulary. Or the best optical patterns to use in graphics to stimulate the optic nerve and neural sensors. That would be using actual science in studies to improve objective performance using physiology. So there is science in teaching, but the day-to-day application is not centrally around creating this type of focused study. The day-to-day remains applying methods the science wing has developed and distributing it to the classroom. Most of the science was done for the classroom already and the teachers are mostly following a template. Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at November 19, 2021 06:16 PM (aXxgO) 197

I both hope it's just a precaution, and hope it's not a precaution and the cops decide to tell Warren Willhelm to go fuck himself, as they beat any commie protestors into a lifetime wheelchair. At the time I didn't think that was a big deal, but looking back, there's a big difference in the language philosophies which colored how he taught us. Bartender says something about because of the something sophisticated you Harvard guys do. Second guy the bartender identifies as a Stanford man. Bartender explains how it was some other you know real smart and sophisticated thing he did. Then the third guy, the bartender says, "And you are a Clempson man!". No question. There's a lot of science that's more accurately described as pseudoscience. I just thought it reasonable to say real science can exist, should exist, and does exist in education as a discipline limited as it is. I'm not in education, but I like science. I'm for it whenever it can be judiciously applied. Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at November 19, 2021 06:40 PM (aXxgO) 291

You made a mistake asking. The points are for the year so far. They're based on the number of dogs defeated. So if a dog goes Best in Show, it's considered to have defeated every dog competing that day. If Lila gets a Hound Group 1, she's considered to have defeated every Hound competing that day.
Lila has 2 Best in Shows and 22 Group 1s. The Sammy has 63 Best in Shows and 125 Group 1s. That's the difference. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at November 19, 2021 06:27 PM (/U27+) Ahhh, interesting. Does the Sammy ever go home...? REAL science is of absolutely no interest to the media, because it's not entertaining, but is incredibly repetitive and all but designed to eliminate dramatic breakthroughs.
The 20th century had a few actual dramatic scientific breakthroughs: development of nuclear weapons, and the polio vaccine. But those are very much exceptions to the rule for real science, at least as I understand it. Posted by: qdpsteve at November 19, 2021 06:59 PM (L2ZTs) 300

I need to figure out a way to divorce myself from regular teachers and not get offended when Ace rightfully goes after bad teachers.
I left industry (Engineering) and now teach Engineering/Mechatronics for a CTE school integrated into a regular highschool. My students are gold. This is my first year, after 7 teaching, where I have to be in same building with regular highschool students. Hell no. I subbed during my lunch because they needed a warm body...never again. Funny thing is I'm the union rep because I need to keep an eye on things. 70pc of CTE teachers are conservative. Guess its because they come from real life. Enh, brcc has their issues. I don't think this is one since they are mocking not cheearleading.
Their Drinking Bros podcast has a Rittenhouse episode that I haven't checked out. These are guys who spent so much time in the military that their ideological views are not well formed because they skipped the years civilians were forming theirs. Their solutions for problems tend to be authoritarian like mandatory public service and simplistic things like "compromise". Their brand is toxic to Democrats, even those that support 2a. Their pickle is how do they continue grifting on emotional manipulation of well meaning people wanting to help vets while also alienating this side of the customer base while reaching out to Progressive Marxists, who wont like them no matter what.
