The Polish government has congratulated its officers deployed on the EU's Eastern frontier after they repelled the "first wave" of migrants who threw rocks and allegedly even "stun grenades" in an attempt to breach the border Tuesday morning.
Knock on wood, but it looks like the Poles are winning. In response to EU sanctions over Belarus' forcing down an Irish jet, Lukashenko openly threatened to open his borders and let drugs and "migrants" into the EU unmolested. "Tour agencies" in the Middle East suddenly started offering package tours to beautiful Belarus, and Belarus handed out thousands of tourist visas to young Middle Eastern men of military age. Lukashenko's calculation was that the Poles would cave - after all, the "migrants" didn't want to stay in Poland, but wanted to go to Germany and points west. He wasn't expecting Poland's response that they would not admit a single illegal migrant. BTW, Russia has protested Poland's use of tear gas and water cannons. After all, Russia would never, ever use violence against foreigners. Posted by: The ARC of History! at November 16, 2021 10:16 PM (I2/tG) 56

Who the fu*k do these school board people think they are? There are pathetic people who, if you give them any kind of job title at all, let it go to their heads. I hate to admit it, but I'm not surprised that it is a woman. They've got quite the circle to square: I was reading a piece about how this playing out in Germany. One the one hand, you need to sell the idea that the vaccines are great in order to get MOAR vaccinated, yet on the other, you've got to sell to those already jabbed, that the effectiveness is no good, and they need a booster (and likely more than just one). The "pandemic of the unvaccinated" line doesn't work too well for the latter. So the Kraut equivalent of Dr. Fauxci is changing tune on that line, saying, it's no longer a pandemic of the unvaxxed, it's "just a pandemic". I had a rat war that went on for a few years inside the castle walls. Once a pex water pipe was gnawed through and threatened to bring down the living room ceiling. There is no scenario with an efficacious vaccine whereby you have 60 pct of your adult population "vaccinated" and 40 million recovered Covid patients and you have more deaths and cases than you did before the vaccine. Which is the scenario we have now. Literally nothing has changed in 18 months except the junta grows more desperate. Or alternatively.. It's all been one gigantic scam and op from jump street. Indeed, I would not call a vaccine whose relative efficacy for symptomatic infection drops to zero after 240 days, and then turns negative after that "working well". Efficacy for "severe disease and death" remains above zero, but is still declining. IIRC, it's only 30% tops at that 240 day mark. And it peaks the least and declines the most in the most high-risk cohorts, those who need protection the most. Haha. Once again liberal companies are the one that when there is a sexist wage gap are the guilty party. In the wake of the scandal at Blizzard, Activision appointed two people to take over. One was a man, one was a woman. After a month the woman left. Apparently part of why she stepped down is because she was getting paid less than the male. So for the same job as the co-head she was paid less.

..... Just so we are not mistaken, I'm not claiming the vaccine works well. In fact, I don't think it's a vaccine at all. I think it's gene therapy. And overall, I think it's gene therapy that actually exacerbates the pandemic by creating ADE, as most of its mRNA predecessors have, thus the reason for mothballing them. What I am saying, though, is it's not a contradictory message to people to say to them that the vaccine will keep you safe for six months at a time. That's not illogical. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at November 16, 2021 11:03 PM (g3ozd) 233

I've asked a few jabbed LIVs why they chose the shot they got - Pfizer, JJ, Moderna. "Uh, what?" is the response I get back. They don't even know their are fundamental differences in them. Often the same people have strongly held opinions on who the best sportsball player is, what the best phone maker is, or hell whether a hot dog is a sandwich or not. "Your application for a religious exemption is DENIED." I'm not lawyer, but my reading on the case law for this stuff is they literally aren't allowed to deny you because your belief system is weird. They've got two ways to deny you; 1) If they can make a case you really don't want the shot for other reasons. So do NOT talk about how the Clot Shot doesn't work, is dangerous, whatever. Be clear you won't take it because it is the literal Mark of the Beast. 2) If it would be too much of a hardship for them to allow you to opt out. The reality is, you have filed for a religious exemption. You have stated, in writing, that you refuse vaccination on the grounds of religious principals.
That's where it ends. Now they either fire you or retain you. Any other information they gather is just statements that can be used to defend themselves in the case of a lawsuit should they opt to fire you. Those questions should be directed to your legal counsel. You do not have to provide your employer with "proof" of your religious convictions. That explanation/argument is for court. Ace's earlier post about the Kenosha authorities magically locating the guy that tired to kick KR's head in was not at all surprising. Actually it is somewhat brazen considering the jury just went into deliberations. Proper form says one should wait a few months after the verdict. And then there is the equally magically delayed Ziminski trial until next year. You would be exactly correct to think I didn't buy for a second that the Kenosha assholes didn't know who did the drop kick months ago and that the Ziminski trial delay was equally willful.

Posted by: Pete Bog Urban, mild temps, yes. Rural, real weather, no. Posted by: Some Rat I share your skepticism, and have for many years. I do not get it. So you are trading coal generated electricity/power, for gasoline generated power. Takes 5 minutes to refill gasoline, versus 5 hours or more with electric. I read an article yesterday how China is struggling with old batteries. Very toxic to the environment. I wonder often if the enthusiasm gap has to do with our country being so large compared with Europe, for example. Where things, like trains/electric cars, make sense there, but here, not so much. I can see someone in England or Italy having an electric. But can not understand it here. Seems like instead of worrying once a week about filling up, you are worrying every day, like with your phone, about connecting. Posted by: MikeM at November 17, 2021 12:28 AM (X+eRS) 384

Nothing to see here. Something else that is nothing to see: https://tinyurl.com/y8r6fec8 One trick they play is define fully vaccinated as only 2 weeks after the last dose. Anyone before that is defined as "unvaccinated". Guess what? If you define "vaccinated" as being after you got the first shot, and look at all-cause hospital admissions, you find the jabbed are 9 times as likely to be hospitalized for any reason than the un-jabbed. On the other side of the ledger the incremental progress and increasing acceptance will at some point create a preference cascade. And lots of coal will be burned in old plants. With a full charge and a full 13 gallon tank I have 540 mile range. Awesome road trip car, because I can go 10-12 hours with one fill up. I'm not interested in a Tesla or full electric car because you have to install the special plug, and if a family emergency pops up, you can't drive across a couple of states without worrying about long stops, or finding charging stations in convenient locations.

The Lark has a 170 cubic inch OHV six in it. It's a Studebaker engine, but from a '63 Lark. My car should have had a flathead six in it. The OHV six was notorious for cracked heads, but mine is uncracked. They are a small bore (3") and long stroke, so wear out rings and pistons fairly early in their life.
I looked on Otto Engine Works website. They have an article on "saving" worn pistons by machining ring grooves wider, and inserting spacers above the compression rings. They even suggested that one can use oil ring rails for this purpose. Spacers go on top of the rings. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 17, 2021 01:00 AM (P3gRi) 409
My best guess at this moment: the three new pistons, for sure. Two of the old ones may be useable as-is. That gives me four to play with for machining out the ring grooves to accept the ring plus spacer. Friend here has a lathe...
