Fair skin was then a mark of the upper class. Elites didn't have to work in the sun. Tanned skin was a mark of laborers. (I wish it still was like this in our society.) Gods were the ultimate in upper class/elite, so painters went with the pale look.

Plus, IMO, fair fair skin makes her look even more naked.

Presumably they were traveling to Greece to see what the locals looked like.

It also isn't clear what ancient greeks looked like - there has been a lot of immigration/conquest in the area since classical greece. Alexander of Macedon, for example, was supposedly blonde.

https://youtu.be/aXI7E3-MEMM

Venus's backstory was retconned a couple of times. In the pilot, Andy describes him as "The number one night-time DJ in New Orleans."

Later, Venus was supposely a teacher in New Orleans who worked part-time as a DJ. Unlikely, given the hours, and the fact that part-time DJ's would never be "number one" in their market.

And at the same time that he was teaching and DJ'ing either full or part time, he was also fighting in Vietnam. Dude got around.

Posted by: Archer at November 18, 2021 09:47 AM (gmo/4)

Renaissance art, and Traditionalism really, is about the ideal. Men are manly and women are feminine. Beauty is the standard and perfection is the goal. Women were soft, weak, demure, effeminate, motherly or virginal, submissive, etc. In classical Greece, Aphrodite was the ideal woman. In the Renaissance, that was recovered mixed with Mary's traits. This work seems to go back to the more Greco-Roman idea.

It is to laugh. They don't arbitrarily set price. There's a market, and that market is being moved by declining production as a result of Biden maladministration policies.

Hey, Joe? "Produce more even though I make it impossible to produce more profitably, and if you don't then you'll get the whip" is bad motivational strategy...

The claims of the Aeneid should be taken with a huge dose of salt. Virgil was a total Octavian fanboy, and the Aeneid is Grade-A Augustinian propaganda. The Julians were a very old family in Rome, and the claim of Venusian decent was to prop up their blue-blood creds. It also helped after Octavian took over to then claim Julius a god, cuz he then became son of a god.

I would refer them to the recent LA Times article about the vaccine efficiency in California. Even with booster after booster it appears the best we can get to is 34% efficacy with covid "vaccines" at this point. Granted that's only one study, but with case counts rocketing upward in heavily vaccinated areas I suspect it's accurate.

And that could be trending even lower as more people move inside for winter.
