Today's art shows how horrible the Trump maladministration will be in the future. Virgins will be forced out into the wilderness and their children will have no clothes. The plants at the top and bottom are in an immature state. They represent the preflowering, but not yet ripe pureness of the coming Biden Administration. Once in full bloom, the fresh air coming out of Biden will rejuvenate the world and restore the world's admiration of the reset country Trump destroyed. There will be rejoicing in every country.

There's this neat triangular form connecting the three main figures, with Mary at the apex. The triangle can have Christian symbolism. It can represent the Trinity, it can be God's halo, or it can be a shape that adds stability and balance to a work.

"She was Mary cousin. So their Moms or Dads were siblings."
I understand, but being of the lineage of David doesn't necessarily make her of the tribe of Judah, depending on how things played out. And I'm not smart enough to explain the nuances of Jewish lineage, but I know there are some quirks. Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. Since the woman is Mary, and she is actually touching the child on our left, I'd suggest that is Jesus and the other is John. The child to the left is also cradling a crucifix -- a foreshadowing of what will happen to the child some 33 years hence.
If it weren't for the wings, the other female figure could be John's mother, since she's right by the child. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at November 09, 2021 09:49 AM (txdEq) 83

I wonder if artists ever got tired of doing the same stuff. A lot of these paintings are so full of symbolism that they cease being engaging. This one feels like a high-brow one of those -- what were they called? -- "Col-R-Form" things that kids play with a printed background and a selection of thin plastic scenery bits that kids can place and remove at will. It all feels quite rote, like the background was done from memory/imagination, the posing of the figures was just muscle memory, the faces are bereft of true emotion... It's technically good but as engaging as a strip of wallpaper. The characters even look bored to be there.

Not my favorite, but a da Vinci is always a good time.
A couple years ago, before the coof and when the museums were still open, the Carnegie Science Center down in Pittsburgh did a huge da Vinci exhibit for a couple weeks. There was some art (including at least one original), and they had constructed full-scale models of many of the devices he designed in his notebooks. Everything from battlefield tanks to water pumps to helicopters. He was a polymath and an amazing talent, one of those people who only come along every few centuries. Amazing stuff. The keys to this work could be the setting and the shape of the canvas. The group is in a grotto, a similar setting to many Marian sightings. The shape is usually for altarpieces or niche-placements. If I remember right, this work (or the other version) was meant for a altar niche in a convent or monastery. The customers didn't like it, so Leonardo redid it.
Anyway, the idea of the work might be then having one's own personal vision of Mary, and the introduction of her Son. She gently nudges John to Jesus. John is the Preparer of the Way, the angel protects and presents the Savior, who blesses the Baptist and his mission. Posted by: Kris at November 09, 2021 09:56 AM (OyyDO) 112

I love the contrast of the brilliant blues in Mary's robe and the sky as well as the deep gold of the lining against the figures' ivory skin tones and dark background. It makes the figures almost pop out at the viewer and focuses attention to them. Also, the realism of their faces and expressions reinforces, at least to me, that this is a human as well as divine scenario.
I suspect there is significance to the way the rocks are drawn but don't know what it might be. The effect on the viewer seeing it in person must be stunning. Posted by: JTB at November 09, 2021 10:09 AM (7EjX1) 165

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at November 09, 2021 09:59 AM (txdEq) It should be John because of the garment he's wearing. John is depicted many times in a garment similar to this. I admit the staff is confusing. It could be a mix of his walking staff in the wilderness and a foreshadowing of his mission's focus--Jesus. He is also clearly submissive to the other child. The other child is nude, and his hand gesture of blessing with three fingers represents the Trinity. I'm not going to say it never happened, but I don't remember anyone in art besides Jesus, God the Father, or a pope make this gesture. Posted by: Kris at November 09, 2021 10:12 AM (OyyDO) 183

What I'm looking at, is the idea that we've now gone over a decade of "priming the economic pump" with easy government money. That new spending, a trillion or ten trillion, can't increase economic activity because all possible growth from such has passed. There is only one possible outcome left now ...
