Clinton Bagman and Scumbag Terry McAuliffe Concedes Race

cooperreporting.png

Classless Terry refused to concede last night but has finally issued a paper statement of concession.

Arresting graphic showing all the places in Virginia where voters shifted Republican. Literally: All places. I don't see a single place where there's not a red arrow.

The Times breaks the news to its fellow deranged leftist zealots:

Democratic Panic Rises as Virginia Loss Exposes the Party's Weakness

Less than a year after taking power in Washington, the party faces a grim immediate future, struggling to energize voters without a presidential foil and losing messaging wars to Republicans.

The menacing thunder couldn’t get much louder for Democrats.

Few in the party had high hopes that their era of rule in Washington would last beyond the midterm elections next year. But the Republican resurgence on Tuesday in Virginia-- a state that President Biden won by 10 percentage points last year -- and surprising strength in solidly blue New Jersey offer a vivid warning of the storm clouds gathering as Democrats look warily to the horizon.

For five years, the party rode record-breaking turnouts to victory, fueled by voters with a passion for ousting a president they viewed as incompetent, divisive or worse. Tuesday's results showed the limitations of such resistance politics when the object of resistance is out of power, the failure of Democrats to fulfill many of their biggest campaign promises, and the still-simmering rage over a pandemic that transformed schools into some of the country's most divisive political battlegrounds.

In Virginia, the Democratic nominee for governor, Terry McAuliffe, was beaten with relative ease by Glenn Youngkin, a Republican private equity executive and political newcomer.

In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, faced a stunningly close race after being expected to coast to victory. In Minneapolis, voters rejected a ballot measure pushed by progressives that would have replaced the Police Department with a public safety department.

Perhaps most strikingly, the crushing setbacks for Democrats in heavily suburban Virginia and New Jersey hinted at a conservative-stoked backlash to the changing mores around race and identity championed by the party, as Republicans relentlessly sought to turn schools into the next front in the country's culture wars.

For Democrats, the results on the nation' single biggest day of voting until the midterms next year raised alarms that the wave of anti-Trump energy that carried them into power has curdled into apathy in a base that is tired of protesting and is largely back at brunch. Or, in what would be even more politically perilous, that the party's motivation has been replaced by a sense of dissatisfaction with the state of a country that has, despite all of Mr. Biden's campaign promises, not yet returned to a pre-Covid sense of normalcy.

Here's my take-away: This is cause for relief and happiness and vindication and even joy.

And maybe even a newfound confidence in our... sanity.

For five years -- or maybe fourteen, going back to Obama's first campaign -- we on the right have consistently told ourselves, "The left is going too far, the public will not have it, they will check and chastise the left for their lunacy."

And yet, with some occasional setbacks (the Red Tide of 2010, Trump's momentous victory), the left has gotten crazier and crazier and nastier and more fascist and have paid very little price. In fact, they've mostly... prospered.

This has left many of us feeling despondent, dispirited, and alienated from a country we used to love. We felt as though we were internal exiles in a country that was now occupied by a hostile, alien, lunatic force.

But this win may indicate that the Slow Bus Public, even the Surburban Karens and Wine Aunts, may have finally realized that, yes, the left is quite insane and they are infecting and reinfecting each other with more viral insanity and cultivating their insanity and deliberately infecting our children with insanity and competing with each other in some psychologically morbid olympics of lunancy.

And so there is comfort to be had in feeling: Ah, thank God! And I was beginning to worry that I was the crazy one here!

That has immense personal benefits and it will also have great political benefits. A demoralized movement is a defeated movement. An energized movement is an advancing one.

Meanwhile, Fox is Fox.

Newsmax is bragging about calling VA four hours before Fox. They put up a graphic showing the order in which networks called the race. I think it went:

1. Newsmax
2. ABC
3. CNN
4. MSNBC
5. Fox

CNN and MSNBC might be flipflopped.

Fox is a rotten joke. They insist on employing a hard partisan liberal as their chief election analysis, just as they insist on keeping a hard partisan liberal as the host of their Sunday interview show, just as they insist on keeping a hard partisan liberal as the host of their "media criticism" show.

They insist on keeping a left liberal gasbag and Covid Karen as their business guy, and insist on keeping a liberal turd on as their daily news anchor to interview a plethora of NeverTrumpers and overt liberals.

Anyone, or any organization, who believes they need to cling to liberals for purposes of "prestige" is, get this, liberal.

The dude was supposed to win by 15. Squeaking by a win with obvious fraud is not going to help him govern any better, making Jersey fall further into disarray and disaster (like Biden and America), laying all of the blame on him and everyone who helped get him to his stolen seat. It's just trying to keep the lid on the boiling pot a little bit longer.

48 Tug-of-war...

The left has almost pulled the rope to their side time and time again. Yesterday the right pulled it back a bit, but the left is still only inches from winning.

This plays out every 2-4 years with the left getting closer every time to outright winning. "Winning" meaning that they completely and totally own the electorate and the machine to put them in office.

They're very close to that, even now.

I think too many on our side really did believe we were never able to win another election again. If anyone could rig an election it would be Terry McAuliffe.

If you have that mindset, how likely are you to volunteer, donate, vote, get your friends to vote, etc? All of this is necessary to win elections.

I feel like every time I say this, I have to preface that I DO believe election fraud happened in 2020. But maybe the focus should be fighting fraud and figuring out a path to victory instead of despair and hopelessness?

But no cross over. Not until at least a generation sees the stark divide between the two.

90 I used ustvgo.tv (with a VPN) to check out the news shows last night. I spent a total of one minute watching Fox News out of the hours that I spent following the elections. Kornacki from MSNBC was my go-to for NJ results, and I watched CNN for the schadenfreude factor - they weren't bad either (with important caveats).

Fox is unwatchable. I've felt that way since the O'Reilly Factor days, and they've done nothing to change my mind from then.

That's interesting framing. "... struggling to energize voters without a presidential foil ..." is really quite remarkable. It might be that I am a cynic (or hopeful, but this is an odd era wherein those two positions are oddly interchangeable in many contexts), but that looks pretty damning to me. That reads like an acknowledgement that the Left can't win on position. They can't get people to vote *for* them, but rather have to get people to vote *against* the opponent.

That is a structural weakness and it has been noted many times before by many people, but this is never ever brought up by their own side. They can win a race of one, they need to go up against a monster (real or imagined and spun) to gain a victory (sans theft).

128 "... as Republicans relentlessly sought to turn schools into the next front in the country's culture wars."

Um, this is exactly ass-backwards. The left always gets away with framing the culture war this way. We can't let them do that anymore.

They try to completely change something that, while not perfect, most people are happy with. Then when conservatives push back and say, "No, we're not happy with these changes you are trying to force on us," they scream, "Culture war! You're trying to start a culture war!"

It's like the Germans invading Poland and blaming it for causing the war because they tried to defend themselves.

The true culture warriors are the leftists. Conservatives are merely defending their values, not trying to upend the system. (Hint: it's in the name, "conservative.")

They won't choose that front. In their controlled messaging outlets (which is most of them), they won't touch the economy. They're making it about "fake CRT" and how unjust it is to make schools a front in the "culture war" (as if it came out of nowhere when some Republican spin doctors whispered some hocus-pocus to captivate the rubes) because those are amorphous fronts where they can spin extremely effectively, pound on minutiae, prevaricate, subvert, lie and distort. They can't do that on the economy and so they are ignoring it to the largest degree possible and instead focusing on playing to their strengths.

Trump broke a lot of people in 2016 and that arguably played a huge role in what happened last night. Would Youngkin have been the nominee if we'd had four years of President Hillary?

Second, the activist left and their karen enablers embraced performative anger as a form of therapy, which has taken over the left. They're in an echo chamber that deafened them to the concerns of a lot of voters.

"Changing mores." What a pathetic passive description of a "mores" regime being *FORCED* upon the nation in general and student in particular, often by the NYT itself. One razor-thin win in one particular state that was far from monochrome to start involving a very bad Dem candidate who reacted catastrophically to circumstances (Loudoun stuff), to me, isn't even a data-point.

And, from the quoted thing, my favorite, the "anti-Trump energy" of last year. LOL.

The "anti-Trump energy" that was manifested by ..... nothing at all, other than implausible vote-by-mail numbers, unconstitutional and in some cases comically corrupt election processes?

Posted by: rhomboid at November 03, 2021 11:53 AM (OTzUX)

212 Said it before, I suspect that back in 2020 when the DNC was refusing to allow their candidates to go on Fox that they made a deal, and then suddenly you have Donna Brazile on there as well as other DNC/DC insiders as guests, etc..

After the wikileaks DNC email drop we learned how DWS was directing MSNBC and other outlets - even going so far as to demand the pull a guest off as he was speaking. We know that the print outlet reporters and op-ed writers regularly run articles by the DNC for review before printing as well as ask them for suggestions (Chris Cilizza asking Hillary campaign for help with his '10 Reasons not to Vote Trmp' column). They are partners in creating political media content

Knowing this DNC micro-management exists and has been in place for years, knowing that Fox was extorted into giving in to DNC demands in 2020 or lose half of DC as potential guests, it's safe to assume that the DNC is now involved in their programming decisions. They have not acted in a way that would disprove that speculation since 2020 election night.

It is, but I think they might try it. They can't win on their own merits and they need a demon. They can't demonize the opponent on the economy, because there is no way to do it. They can lie outright (and they will), but no one will buy it even for a minute. So they need to pick other battles and demonize on those fronts so they can advance. They will choose any front where they can make demons against whom they can run, and try to ignore the rest while they tell some lies to claim they covered it.

Max Cocksucker Boot: "On Sunday I wrote: 'If voters are focused on issues other than the fate of our democracy, they aren't paying attention.' Clearly most Virginia voters weren't paying attention. There are couple of easy, essentially cost-free things that the Democrats could do at this point to improve their hopes for 2022. The first one is to get over their 1/6 obsession. Swing voters are not seeing 1/6 as some kind of massive white supremacist terrorist plot and existential threat. More broadly, swing voters simply don't agree that ARE DEMOCRACY IS THREATENENED!!!111!, even after ten years of having that shouted to them nonstop. That kind of hysteria gets ratings on MSNBC and CNN but the people who matter aren't buying it.

225 FNC had a lot of the angry parents on most of their programs for the past few months and I noticed on social media that those clips got shared a lot.

Asra Nomani from the Mama Bear Movement was on many, many shows. She was a Democrat who was switching sides and voting for Youngkin.

Xi Van Fleet was another parent that was featured a lot. She was the impassioned Chinese women speaking at the Loudon county school board. She spoke out against CRT and totalitarianism.
She was so emotional after Youngkin won because she had never cared about politics till the Virginia election.

1000% this.

There is a groundswell of resentment against teachers. While police, fire and medical - and supermarket workers (!!) - worked through 2020, the teachers unions colluded with the CDC to exempt themselves from work. That, as well as your point above, presents a huge opportunity for the GOP, if they had a Lee Atwater transfusion to take advantage of this. Teachers as a group will never support Republicans, and this is the best opportunity in a generation to push on this particular Achilles Heel.

Today is the feast day of St. Hubert, patron saint of hunters and dog breeders.
Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at November 03, 2021 11:48 AM (/U27+)

From Catholic Online:
Bishop of Maastricht, Netherlands, and disciple of St. Lambert. Hubert was a married courtier serving Pepin of Heristal, France. He reportedly had a vision of a crucifix between the horns of a stag while hunting. Widowed, he is believed to have entered Stavelot Monastery, Belgium, and was ordained by St. Lambert at Maastricht. He succeeded St. Lambert about 705 as bishop. Hubert erected a shrine for St. Lambert's relics at Liege, France. He was noted for his miracles and for converting hundreds. Hubert died at Tervueren, near Brussels, Belgium, on May 30. He is a patron saint of hunters.

From wiki:
He is the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians, and metalworkers.

That covers a lot of territory.

Trump broke a lot of people in 2016 and that arguably played a huge role in what happened last night. Among the GOP establishment a lot of masks were torn off as former "Conservatives" switched sides, and I think that has created a lot of openings on the right for new blood. Would Youngkin have been the nominee if we'd had four years of President Hillary?

Second, the activist left and their karen enablers embraced performative anger as a form of therapy, which has taken over the left. They're in an echo chamber that deafened them to the concerns of a lot of voters.

Even wine mom Karens won't countenance such propaganda against their babies--even though they are the first to cite "Live and Let live" while watching reruns of "Will and Grace" (dated reference but I detest most popular entertainment so am not up to date on more radical versions0.

If 2020 did not prove Trump's adage that "they are not after me, but after you" then we were truly asleep. I think last night showed that at least 50-51% are back from Rip Van Winkle slumber

Posted by: Geronimo Stilton at November 03, 2021 11:52 AM (sGnvY)

Donald Trump is the most transformational political figure in 30+ years. I'm a huge fan, of course, but his political instincts and his speaking ability - which isn't classical oratory but is effective in getting a message across, as well as his internet savvy and ability to connect with a crowd - is a combination that no living politician has. He's been demonized relentlessly, of course, but the fact that he actually *increased* his vote totals across most of the demographic board when he had not one day of positive press from the MSM in four years, points to a singular talent. Future historians will be able to properly document this.

DeSantis is definitely getting the job done in FL, but there are no other Trumps out there. The GOP really needs to fix this.

300 >>>I know this is never going to happen, but the GOP needs to wrangle in the early voting because that's where 99% of the cheating is happening now. People will get over it, not everything is meant to be super easy.

Exactly. PA GOP politicians were responsible for allowing mail-in ballots in 2020, knowing full well the policy would be rife with fraud. They clamped down on Wolf's emergency powers, but the mail-in ballots are still a thing.

It's why I refuse to vote for a PA GOP incumbent until they secure elections.

==========

Democrats cheat every election, but they are not omnipotent in their ability to cheat. There are hard limits to how far they can go.

One of those limits is how hard the GOP is willing to fight for their own side. The RNC was more willing to fight pseudo-outsider Youngkin (former CEO of The Carlyle Group) than for Trump, so they actually fought Democratic efforts to cheat which helped limit the damage.

If voting was completely meaningless, then no Republican would ever win a race in PA, VA, AZ, GA, or MI.

316 Less than a year after taking power in Washington, the party faces a grim immediate future

See, the NYT is dumb. Basic problem.

The Democrats lost Senate seats against expectations in 2020, and now have fewer seats than Republicans. It's only because they are letting socialist indie Bernie Sanders chair an important committee that they, including Kumlala's vote, run the Senate. That is far from "power".

In the House they actually lost seats, a very unusual situation given the Presidential vote, and a five vote margin is not strong at all. Not "power".

They stole the Presidential election. Not a mandate, certainly.

377 DeSantis received his Reserve Naval officer's commission and assignment to the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) in 2004 at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Dallas, Texas, while still a student at Harvard Law School. He completed Naval Justice School in 2005. Later that year, he received orders to the JAG Trial Service Office Command South East at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, as a prosecutor. He was promoted from lieutenant, junior grade to lieutenant in 2006. He worked for the commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO), working directly with detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility.[17][18][19]

In 2007, DeSantis reported to the Naval Special Warfare Command Group in Coronado, California, where he was assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq[20] with the troop surge as the Legal Advisor to the SEAL Commander, Special Operations Task Force-West in Fallujah.

...

384 Child tax credits are nice, but GOP will always be outbid by Dems w/ handouts. School Choice is obvious, but empirically not a great slogan for whatever reason. "Funding follows kid" something like that maybe works. Maybe some tough talk/policies related to forcing colleges to de-bloat and cut tuition/fees might be somewhere the GOP could go and Dems couldn't follow.

AZ has a great school voucher program the Left constantly tries to kill.

You can donate funds and get a dollar for dollar tax credit. And you can give it to the school and suggest a student (but they are not obligated to give it towards their tuition)

Parents are able to fundraise for their kids and its an easy sell. Would you rather give $1000 to your grandkids tuition or to the state?

And on his way out the door, the Pentagon flatly refused to execute his Afghanistan withdrawal order.

I'll believe that Trump might be capable of doing better in Round 2 if he announces that Kushner will not be allowed on the White House grounds. But if he hasn't learned that lesson, then he's not worth re-electing.

434 Amusing news item from last thread.

Well, it is 2021.

Let's start here: this past offseason the University of Texas hired a bunch of new football coaches, including Special Teams Coach Jeff Banks who had previously coached for Alabama. Banks has a lot going on, and apparently at one point in his life he left his wife for a stripper named Pole Assassin. (Pole Assassin.) I don't even know how this is real.

Pole Assassin is a performer, and during her performances she is accompanied by a small monkey. Yes, a monkey. Pole Assassin, during her performances, is accompanied by a monkey who gives her high fives and collects dollar bills during the show. This is not a joke. This is somehow real.

I'm hearing a repot from a credible source that Texas Longhorns Special Teams Coach Jeff Banks' monkey allegedly attacked and seriously hurt a young Trick-or-Treater last night on Halloween.

The monkey's jaws apparently had to be pried off the small child.

462 the real question: why did the Cheaters party allow VA to go red?

That is a good question, and I have a few theories.

1) They tried but the more careful oversight than Trump bothered with actually prevented a lot of possible fraud.
2) They tried but failed to prepare for the degree of support for Youngkin (Trump 2016)
3) They didn't mind losing one election because McAuliffe was such a miserable candidate and it makes the cheat easier to disguise if you don't always win
4) They cheated but the Republicans cheated more
5) The cost and effort for the big cheat is bigger than they were willing to commit to for one state (something others have argued here which I am giving more merit to now)

Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile

I don't really think that's a factor.

What I've seen from even Republicans is they don't like an "escape hatch" because they think the public schools will never be fixed. They don't want the brain drain and the public schools being left behind.

Also, many parents are more "secular" minded and don't want to be "forced" to go to a religious school as the alternative.

465 From Catholic Online:
Bishop of Maastricht, Netherlands, and disciple of St. Lambert. Hubert was a married courter serving Pepin of Heristal, France.

Now his vision is immortalized on the Jagermeister label

Here's my disparate thoughts in one article. (Not too long, though!) The GOP is easy to rile up because they share a single motivation: To be racist jerks. But Democrats need to work harder to unite their diverse party. And they failed on every front.

Republicans are, to be fair, very easy to turn out. Just make up some fake bullshit to trigger their bigotry and loathing of liberals. They don't really care about anything else, so it's not rocket science.

It's never been that Trump has some kind of magic charisma that liberals don't see. He's just a racist jerk and the GOP base really loves having permission to be racist jerks. And Youngkin also supplied that. . . .

Sure, his supporters find the tweets funny, but it alienates the suburban voters the GOP needs to win.

Worse, Trump doesn't seem to have learned anything. He's still obsessed with winning the respect of the MSM - otherwise, why give interviews to Woodward and other MSMers? He keeps complaining about voter fraud but his messaging is ad hoc and incoherent. Do you think he has a serious plan for neutralizing the Deep State? How does a president let the IC play him like it did for four years? And he will be 4 years older in 2024.

DeSantis is way more savvy about government. He doesn't have Trump's charisma, but he doesn't have his immense baggage either. And he's shown a similar backbone re: the MSM.

650 One thing that we can expect the Democrats to do is to come out with a better response to the Critical Race Theory stuff. Their views on the subject are repugnant to normal people, but the Democrats have a lot of repugnant views and they still manage to win elections. This election cycle was one of those rare times when conservatives caught the Left flat-footed. The Left/Democrats were simply not prepared to respond to an attack on CRT, and so their defense of it was ineffective.

Their defense of CRT was all over the place, and was obvious bullshit. The most common line - repeated in the New York Times today - is that "we don't teach CRT in our schools, you're worried about nothing." Well, okay, but if you don't teach it, then why are you fighting so damned hard to prevent conservatives from telling you not to teach it? Just say "yeah, we agree that we shouldn't teach CRT," and put the issue to bed. Instead they fought for it, tooth and nail, which turned out to be optically terrible for them.

(Lesson for the GOP in this: find more issues where you can catch the Left flat-footed).

651 538 And the entire system is loaded with leftists who will undermine everything Youngkin tries, even assuming he tries anything as a Bushite GOPe type. But still, nice to see voters tired of the left's crap and a decisive defeat for CRT and that insanity.

It is. But it sets up what seems to be a typical scenario recently of Youngkin trying but failing, making a few compromises, and then in the next election people shriek about what a RINO he is, and hand the whole thing back to the Democrats on a silver platter.
So as nice as this is, it will be better to keep it in perspective, and work to extend it next time, rather than getting disappointed when it does not produce total change in 100 days.

No, controlling the institutions of society, like the media, entertainment and schools, for example--you know, the things that influence how the large numbers of people you need to support you think and feel--is how you win. The Left understands this, which is why they win.

655 Their defense of CRT was all over the place, and was obvious bullshit.

In the old days ideological flexibility to gain power was a virtue. To the Marxists and the Woke, it is a mortal sin. I think you will see more of this going forward, as the power of the corrupt establishment dems to hide the Woke fades.

656 I will fully admit I wasn't holding out hope that McAwful wouldn't be "discovering" votes in the back of a grocery tank at 3 in the morning. I cast my vote and decided I could only give it up to God. Looks like He was smiling down on me after all.

Unfortunately, we're still saddled with our own Abortion Barbie for delegate. I live in fairly red Frederick with equally-red Clarke only minutes away, but we're also saddled with Loudoun, which also used to be reliably red when it was mostly rural. But the techie shitlibs infested it, and now my worry is that they'll start infesting the northwest like the human locusts they are once the Asshole Barrier (Blue Ridge Mountains) is no longer enough to deter them. We already have to deal with their mouthbreather politics, I don't want to have to live near them.

No, I live in the world that is. Institutions die, and especially quickly when they forget what made them useful in the first place. Hollywood has far less power than they ever did in the past now that they "won" and people turn to other choices rather than their drek.

Papers, Mainstream News, and Cable News is also fading out. Right Wingers made Talk Radio their turf for a generation and now the internet is filling with alternative voices. A guy in his garage gets as many views as CNN. These are where a large number of people are going. This is the real world.

658 You will see a calmer more reserved Trump for the next election.

if we don't see that, then do we vote against him and go with DeSantis, or nah?

Will you guys make that deal today?

I don't see this happening.

I think Trumps time has passed. DeSantis is the next great hope

You mean the internet that is completely dominated by leviathan Neoliberal tech corporations? The ones that plaster the homosexual flag across their logos, ban and censor any opposing voices while signal-boosting the System's narrative?

Any voice on the right that hasn't been banished from the major platforms where the mass of people actually visit is worthless Ben Shapiro-tier controlled opposition. Actual dissident voices on the right, meanwhile, are just preaching to the choir and have no meaningful reach to the larger culture.

660 Does it say more about me or about FOX that I can name each liberal Ace refers to at FOX? It's telling that even the "conservatives" of FOX stayed inside the parameters set by their liberal overlords in their coverage last night.

661 One of your all-time best posts, Ace. I enjoyed reading it twice and may go back for a third. While I'm giving you a tongue-bath, albeit earned, whatever happened to Malkin and Coulter? Something seems to have happened to them along the way. I rarely read anything about them or from them.
