The Morning Report - 11/1/21

kyrieeleisonbrandon.jpg

Good morning, kids. Start of a new week and a new month. For those wholly unaware a number of bellwether elections happen tomorrow, or more correctly have been happening for about a month already due to the insanity of early voting and mail-in ballots that even the like of hideous leftists like Jimmy Carter have rejected as banana republic bullshit. Though they were uncharacteristically quiet about it a year ago, but I digress. As I've said for a while now, the nation as it was is no more. Right now, as a society we're in some sort of bizarre zombie state, like Bruce Willis who just can't seem to turn the red knob and open the friggin' door. Some things have the appearance of normalcy and regularity - like elections - and yet many other things are completely alien. Or metaphorically speaking, we may not be actually dead but we're in a coma. And the odds of coming out of it diminish with each passing day.

I'm mixing metaphors like a Cuisinart here because I'm trying to avoid the hot topic of voting under these conditions, but alas, tis unavoidable. The opinions around here are both strong and colorful, to say the least. But the one thing that is inarguable is that America as it was founded, or at least as it appeared to be operating for the past 50 years or so is gone, goodbye. We are in fact not only a divided nation, but the rift is completely un-mendable. The two sides are not merely arguing about issues, even the most polarizing ones. What separates us is the very nature of our society itself; there is no common ground because the very ground we are on is viewed by the enemy as illegitimate, stolen and evil, which should make crystal clear to anyone just how they see we the people who live on it.

Despite what Peter Navarro and now Mollie Hemingway have documented regarding what happened a year ago, despite the confirmation that the accusations of Russian collusion that Donald Trump did not win 2016 fair and square were completely debunked by the very sham committee that was put in place to railroad him for that in the first place, despite the fact that what was termed as the darkest day in American history, January 6th, as an "insurrection" and a "coup" has all but been proven to have been a premeditated Reichstag Fire perpetrated by the Democrats and their allies -- despite all of the evidence that those who, after 100 years of trying, finally planted the communist flag on top of the Capitol Dome, some otherwise very astute pundits continue to think we who state these self-evident truths are crackpots who need to STFU.

Anton Chekhov famously said that if a gun appears hanging on a wall in the first act, it must be used in the second act. In the same way, the line is dangerously thin between warning about a peril and creating an atmosphere that makes that peril possible. Ever since last year's presidential election, the press and countless voices on social media have been worrying, ever more loudly and insistently, about a looming civil war.

The warnings come from both ends of the political spectrum, and Americans seem to believe them. But civil war is a rare and exceptional moment in the life of a civilization. We should be careful how we use such a term, lest fears of political catastrophe become self-fulfilling prophecies . . .

. . . Granted, you would have to possess an extraterrestrial complacency not to worry about America's divisions. On one side are Trump's ceaseless claims that the election was stolen, claims compounded by the unwillingness of many Republicans to counter his false assertions and denounce him for making them.

Stop right there. Apologies. Did I say "astute pundits?" In the case of Lee Siegel here at the usually decent City Journal, I meant "ass toot" (I didn't quote it because the paragraph after this one will make you rage-stroke). I usually get to spot one or two Pollyannas a week who are not NeverTrump stooges but who are reasonable and intelligent essayists. Unfortunately, this dreck was all I could find to illustrate my point. Continuing . . .

But is an epistemological crisis the same as finding ourselves on the brink of civil war? We might see through the more hyperbolic claims of division to find our way to some obvious and consequential bonds. The often-heard claim, for instance, that Americans essentially live in different countries is a disconnection from American reality -- a product of, to borrow a term from intellectual historian Arthur Lovejoy, a "climate of opinion" that sees portents of civil war everywhere. Someone in Vermont is just as likely to be listening, say, to country and western music as someone in Texas; you would quickly lose count of all the Honda CRVs bearing Black Lives Matter decals, on the one hand, and those with MAGA stickers, on the other. If the country ever comes together as one, the point of unity will probably be a large cheese pizza.

HO. LEE. FOOK. I think I just threw up in my mouth. Has Siegel ever heard of the Loudon County Schoolboard? Has he ever heard of Kyle Rittenhouse? Has he ever heard of the dozens of people still held in the Garland Archipelago? Has he ever heard of people purged for their political views, i.e. "cancel culture?" I imagine he has heard of Ashli Babbit; he views her as a rabid racist white supremacist insurrectionist who got what she deserved.

The conditions for a civil war simply do not exist. Since civil war is only one step removed from revolution -- if the South had chosen to overthrow the American republic rather than to secede from it, that would have been a revolution -- the conditions for a civil war must resemble those for a revolution. That is to say, each side has to have an army behind it; each side has to be prepared to wage war. . .

. . . Regardless of which political side wins three years from now, Americans should remove the flush of fever from their rhetoric. They should keep the rifle hanging on the wall and allow the next act in American political life, whatever it is, to be a peaceful one.

The level of jackassery in this essay is off the charts. It's a tossup as to which is more infuriating, his cluelessness or his arrogance. And I don't dismiss that this kind of writing is intentional agitprop, hamfisted as it obviously is to attempt to make folks believe him rather than their lying eyes. But it nevertheless is revelatory. You know, maybe Lee Siegel is right in his description of a civil war or the conditions for it. This isn't a civil war. This is more and more looking like the Warsaw Ghetto circa April 1943. One side sure as hell has an army behind it. The other does not. That is to say we the people being the other side. But unlike the doomed Jews, what we do have - thank God - is the second amendment and upwards of 200 million people who over the years have taken it to heart. What we are missing is that moment where we "Break Glass, Pull Handle" so to speak. The Jews of the Ghetto in '43 had that for sure, except all they had to fight with were a few pistols and Molotov cocktails. It's the Jews of '33 who for the most part didn't see it, or refused to see it, that ultimately lead to what happened 10 years later.

That's where we are, in a sense. I mean, even a few short years ago, even in the wake of the Obama Reign of Error, could anyone have imagined the nightmare that has transpired since and how things have played out for the past 20 months? The Left for sure wiped out so much of America. The one thing I suppose that we can be thankful for in a perverse way is that in doing so they wiped out the illusions of incorruptible and impartial safeguards and institutions that would always be on guard to protect our rights and freedom. Forget the so-called "Fourth Estate" which is the Fifth Column. I'll never trust our intelligence services, law enforcement, the courts, the FDA and anything coming out of any governmental agency ever again.

But just shut up with all this "civil war" garbage and play nice, right?

Siegel was born in the Bronx, went to Columbia and went on to work for various magazines and papers. This helps contextualize some things. First is the academic difference without distinction in his thesis here. He argues that America's problems are not existential, but epistemological. We disagree, sometimes viciously, but we still share an existential basis as Americans.

I wonder if he has ever taken a road trip, let alone several. This country is vast and tied together by common Americanism, and this can - or could - be seen on your typical cross-country long haul. It started changing and the changes have been accelerating. There are still the major regional differences - the South is not the Midwest, etc. - but the greatest divide is now urban/rural or, likely more accurately, large/small. Most of our second-tier cities and small towns and rural areas are still in common with each other. The divide between them and the first-tier cities is huge.

I don't think the GOP are even collaborators doing what they need to do to maintain their positions under occupation. A generation back, maybe, but not anymore. Now they're just on the same side completely and share all the same common goals. There's a difference between a collaborator and an ally. Neither is acceptable, but one is worse.

61 An interesting trend in Morning Reports over the past year or so, accelerating recently, is the thematic distribution of articles. At this point, there is staggering overlap between one category and two others. Much of what's in the "Education, and What Passes For it" section could easily be sent to the "Culture Wars, National Suicide" or the "Feminazism, Trangender Psychosis, Homosexulaization, War or Masuculinity/Normalcy" section (or cross-posted between them). JJ has started doing this to some degree, including today.

Those three sections have become a Venn Diagram, with the culture war and sex politics circles now essentially fully covering the education circle.

73 I watched some local news this morning and the local NBC affiliate ran a segment on employment that they called, "The Big Quit." It's about how resignations have been accelerating over the past year. They called out some reasons which are surely true but I suspect not primary - things like crises shifting preferences, wanting better work/life balance, people looking at a major disaster like COVID and realizing they want to do something different, etc.

They didn't mention corporate culture, though, and I suspect that's a biggie. No one wants to work for someone who hates him. And America's corporations (and essentially all organizations over around 100 people) have made it clear that if you're not a woke-ass leftist, they hate you.

It is amazing that the court passes on things that require quick decisions and then basically announces "what does it matter now?" by the time they hear the cases. Or they issue the ever prevalent "no standing" ruling. Meanwhile, on things we do win, they offer tailored decisions that guarantee continued lawsuits. Plus they allow Hawaiian judges to issue national injunctions. Yeah, SCOTUS is trash.

Of course. Analysis of prevailing trend is vital to any journalism enterprise or effort. This requires great analysis, which is under way. But this is not just a journalism requirement, it needs to be studied by psychologists. It is still generally early, but it appears to be a classic case of psychological projection. The people chanting "Let's Go Brandon" and it's foul-mouthed progenitor know that they - not the government - is to blame for much of the disaster with which we are now afflicted. They are protecting their own psyches by lashing out at a symbol onto which they project their own internalized mental damage. Those same people use "code" because they still have notions of decorum and decency that their nascent fugue states have not yet been able to erase.

To tackle the "Let's Go Brandon" problem, we need to tackle the root cause psychological damage amongst its chanters.

Yep. Which is ridiculously depressing, since this has been *the* issue for why the GOPe has been telling us for decades now that we need to keep voting for them. To get conservative justices on the court.

So all those years we have been setting our principles aside and just voting for the lesser of two evils GOPe stooge in the Senate in order to try to get conservative justices has resulted in nothing. Instead of being able to say "well, the GOPe fucked us on every single political issue, but at least we have conservative justices", we're sitting here having been fucked on every single issue and having a trash SCOTUS. But the simple fact is that one judge after another struck down Trump's legal efforts to prove fraud and overturn the election, and one attempt after another by Trump's people to demonstrate the validity of his claims outside the courtroom failed.

True, but he utterly fails to assess why people - people who are fairly reasonable in general - don't care about that. Sure, the courts all said "nothing to see here, get out of my courtroom" but why doesn't that matter? Why does the court (the judicial systems generally) have no gravitas? Why do people increasingly not equate judicial decisions with justice or truth?

Siegel needs to consider that question.

134 Item five in the marriage article - mindset - is the key to the whole affair. Everything else flows from that change. "I want a husband and family and want to keep both" has to be step one. That is comparatively rare. A lot of women want to get married. Far fewer want to be married, and the longer it takes to get to "get married" the worse the outcomes are. Most of us here can relate, trust me. But after Nov. 3rd, one thing I did tell myself was that the only thing left was for me to vote in local and state elections. As we've all seen, a D governor can and will do tremendous damage. And that will affect you directly and in a much more immediate way. Will this guy be DeSantis? No, I see no sign of that. But McAwful will bring incredible disaster to VA. There's no doubt about it.

151 Item five in the marriage article - mindset - is the key to the whole affair. Everything else flows from that change. "I want a husband and family and want to keep both" has to be step one. That is comparatively rare. A lot of women want to get married. Far fewer want to be married, and the longer it takes to get to "get married" the worse the outcomes are. Age of first marriage continues rising, and continues correlating with higher divorce rates.

Marriage requires compromise on both sides if it is to work.

The longer someone lives "my life, my way", the less likely they are to going to be open to changing that life.

It's not just "wanting" to be married or have kiddos, it's having the flexibility to hang in there for the long haul. Bend not break and all that.

Yup. Marriage is restricting. What once was one now is two (and then three plus) and all the rules change. It probably means that the pillars of the cultural left have realized that cancel culture actually affects them more than people on the right. The powerful people on the right are far less likely to give a shit that they are trending negatively on Twitter, so they're less likely to bow to the mob.

It's predominantly the big people on the left who are more in danger. Their publicity people urge instant acquiescence because it could hurt the fanbase that they actually care about.

I got 'em. It was nice. Normal. The older kids - the ones on the cusp of being too old to trick-or-treat anymore - were surly, the little kids were cute as hell, and most of them came on their own to ring the bell and get the treats. Yes he will, and Younkin might stop the bleeding a little, but this is what the GOPe counts on, and in the long run you still bleed out and die. Also, Younkin paints himself as old time GOPe (think Bush) and if he wins you know that they will say he ran a more traditional, not Trump like campaign and use that again anyone daring to run on the America first platform. In the long run I will probably vote, I will pray about it some more and decide in the morning. It's all just so depressing really.

Forst, there has always been a double standard. They can make assasination art about W, Trump, Reagan, etc. but a SABA poster or an Obama-masked rodeo clown is a legitimate threat to the republic.

Think the other part of this chant that really annoys them is that it mocks the media, too. The "Let's Go Brandon" description for the chant was their attempt to gaslight people about the real chant. Like people owning the label "deplorable," this takes ownership of their propaganda, enabling people to say FJB in public without saying FJB. LOLGF

I think that is true. But more because they are narcissists and feel that they are entitled to "get your mind right".

I was reading about the history of coffee and one thing came up frequently over time. Authoritarian governments who felt that they were losing the hearts and minds of those being ruled would close down coffee shops and taverns in fear that the people would congregate and communicate. As the evil rulers became more afraid, they put harsh penalties (like prison and death) on those who continued to operate the public places of meeting.

Their actions remind me of that historical tidbit for some reason.

Government is an inherent depressor on economic activity, and Joe Biden's ascension to the presidential throne signaled to the bureaucratic state that any and every regulation imagined would be acceptable. So, they went whole hog, with a million different fingers all suddenly pushing down at the same time without concern for unexpected impacts. It's just that the people who man the administrative state are there to do one thing: regulate American behavior, and they know Biden's administration won't stop them.

I'm interested here in the Decide, which heavily depends on Wisdom. For example, violence is an answer to a lot of problems - most of the times not a good answer. To use or not to use is Wisdom.

Dittos with how they hate how people, and hate they people are happy and hate that travel is one mode of bringing happiness, so they attack traveling, yet how they attack it is without wisdom. You say that they stupidly attack a particular or a set of parts causing system failure.

280 Stupidity or lack of Wisdom?
Posted by: Reuben Hick at November 01, 2021 07:52 AM (+LCoQ)

Either or both. These are not mutually exclusive. For the lower-level operators, I am inclined to blame stupidity. But it is also known to anyone with a modicum of intelligence and sense that everything they stand for is bad for everyone but the top echelons of the ruling class. To not know that is ignorance (lack of wisdom), to believe it to be otherwise this time because you're finally the one in charge is hubris, to know it but not care because you're planning to be in that ruling class is evil.

But they all leave destruction in their wakes, and it all looks the same whether they're stupid, ignorant, arrogant or evil.

Is mail in fraud still possible? I suppose so, but at least this state is gonna make it difficult to achieve in large numbers. Dominion is still a huge problem, of course. Trump lost ~15,000 votes in eight minutes time here because of shenanigans.

The lack of wisdom allows them to buy into the whole Climate Change folly. Thinking that blindly reducing the consumption of hydrocarbons will have no secondary or tertiary effects is lack of wisdom.

Someone says "Sulphur in coal and bunker oil causes acid rain". Lack of wisdom allows that person to go through with those plans because they don't consider any of the fallout. One of the hallmarks of Evil is it's general stupidity. One of the many great insights of C. S. Lewis was that a good rule for gauging how Evil some person, organization, or Government was, is to focus on how much effort they put into their own self destruction. He wrote that was what made him realize that Good and Evil are not two equal, opposing forces such as Yin and Yang - because Evil loves destruction so much, it can never keep from destroying itself. (and anything it has power over)

Sadly, the worst Evil of all waits until is has taken control of an entire country before it ever shows its true face.

I attribute that to lack of theory of mind. Their understanding of the world around them is that of a child's limited in intellect so everything is viewed through the lens of emotion. Group affirmation guarantees that the dopamine flows and is thus the chemical addiction perpetuates this pathology.

When they can't/won't conceive that others might have different a/o better ideas, then they can only Project on to others the ignorance and ideology that they have been so often rewarded with.

We're already in a war with China, but most Americans don't have a clue about it because of the lack of Media coverage.

Do you doubt that Chairman Xi would kill off half of all Americans if he thought he could get away with it? Xi has been public about how China needs to crush the US to be the World's sole hegemon, which is China's destiny in his view.

The most viewed movie in the World right now is a Chinese propaganda piece about the ChiCom's magnificent victory over the Yankee Running Dogs at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. "The Battle at Lake Changjin" (what the Chinese call it) has already earned $845 million at the box office, and will soon be the biggest grossing movie of all time despite most tickets being sold for far less than what we pay at the local cineplex.

My spidey sense says that the ChiComs will make a big move, and that forcing everyone in China to see this movie is battle space prep.

If not mentioned before, Today is All Saints Day.

On November 1st the Church celebrates all her holy ones in heaven, known and unknown, with the feast of All Saints. The solemnity originally began in the 4th century to commemorate all the Christian martyrs killed during those centuries of brutal persecution before Christianity was legalized. There were so many martyrs that a separate feast day could not be given to each one individually, yet, the Church did not want to leave any martyr without proper veneration.

And, if you please, remember in your prayers my little M., who passed this day so many years ago.

Some years ago, I had an old Lincoln Town Car with bad paint and a prodigious appetite for motor oil (with the blue exhaust to prove it). I was driving with my brother and there was a big teacher's union protest strung out along one of the main major roads. He told me he was going to roll down the window and yell at them and didn't want me to be surprised. He said it would be a hoot because they would shout back about rich fat cats hating public education. I told him there was no chance because while it was a Town Car, it had awful paint burned oil and it was obvious that it was not a fancy car.

He laughed and said, "these people are stupid and think only in symbols. We're in a Town Car, therefore we're rich fat cats." I told him he was wrong.

A few minutes later, he was hurling abuse at picketers when we were stopped a red light and the picketer shouted back, "Hypocritical coming from the guy in the Town Car!" I was astounded.

326 The longer someone lives "my life, my way", the less likely they are to going to be open to changing that life. It's not just "wanting" to be married or have kiddos, it's having the flexibility to hang in there for the long haul. Bend not break and all that.

Posted by: naturalfake at November 01, 2021 07:23 AM

That is where I have been the last 5-10 years or so. I remember growing up knowing that I wanted to get married and be a father. Knew that since I was a teenager. But now at age 45, having lived alone since age 23, never married, I am set in my ways.

While I still remember that desire to get married and be a father and sometimes still have it - not to mention still desire companionship with a good woman - at this point, I don't see the benefit. Especially in the age of radical feminism where the risk/benefit of either dating or marriage is high risk, low benefit. Risk of #MeToo, risk of woman just up and changing her mind about wanting to be married to you and taking you financially for everything you've worked for in life, taking your kids away from you.

335 What you see today; supply chain FUBAR, military in disarray, services and goods going down the tubes, lockdowns, multiple vax strategies, etc. is all due to a complete lack of vision and leadership. rezident retard is not in control of the country. Multiple factions are, and they don't communicate amongst each other.

For all of his political failings the one thing Trump was that pisses off the political establishment more than anything else was that he was a leader.

336 fun personal note - our street was kinda dark last night, and we wanted to do something to let trick or treaters know we had some candy to give them - so I put out Tiki Torches next to the street last night to let them know we were worth a stop. Only had a few, *until* some nicely costume group of about 20 showed up all together! Let me get rid of most of the junk candy I bought - all in all, a fun night.

(okay, I confess I really put out tiki torches because I must be a white supremacist, that's what McCauliffe says)

340 One of the hallmarks of Evil is it's general stupidity. One of the many great insights of C. S. Lewis was that a good rule for gauging how Evil some person, organization, or Government was, is to focus on how much effort they put into their own self destruction.

C.S. Lewis just simply read the second half of Romans 1. Its laid out there in pretty tight and concise format.

The general theory is that God is the source of Wisdom, Knowledge, Truth, Logic and Reason. The noetic effect of The Fall was to be estranged from God and thus be distanced from reflecting these attributes.

The wicked are even more so estranged, and as they are "turned over" for their escalation of sin, they become even crazier and crazier as they distance themselves from the aforementioned items.

There are four stages of reprobation, so I have borrowed the language of Cancer and describe our foes as to where they are in the road to reprobation. Many are at Stage IV Reprobation.

"For whom the gods wish to destroy they first make insane" has been an observation for many millennia.

346 More on Marriage:
As mountains of data have long revealed, one of the most dangerous places in the world for a woman is in a cohabitating (unmarried) relationship. In addition to its emotional, financial, and sexual disadvantages, cohabitating women are far more likely to suffer domestic violence than are married women. Research by University of Chicago sociologist Linda Waite in the late 1990s and early 2000s found that cohabitating women were more than three times more likely to suffer domestic violence than were married women.

For the most part they have hired a lot of really big conservative voices that are all rising stars. Sure they have Cavuto, Wallace and even Baier. These aren't the stars anymore and for the most part as a regular viewer I would say the conservatives and content definitely way outnumber the liberals by a lot.
I know that many don't watch, but I feel there are many stories like the drone illegal alien footage, The 450,000 payment to illegals, Jan 6 and Ashli Babbitt story that they give a lot of coverage that makes it to the mainstream. I think without them these stories would be buried and only read on conservative blogs by conservatives.

373 FDA delays Moderna approval for kids... We're looking at Myocarditis...

The FDA review for an emergency use authorization of Moderna's Vaccine for adolescents as young as 12 years old is being delayed as the agency takes a deeper look into a possible heart risk, Moderna said on Sunday.

The review of the possible heart risk, a heart muscle inflammation called myocarditis, may push back approval until early 2022, the agency warned Moderna.
...
According to the CDC, reported cases of myocarditis have occurred usually a few days after getting the COVID vaccine and mostly after receiving the second dose.

The CDC said that the heart risk has been reported after receiving either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine mostly among young adults and male adolescents.
