53 He also has a few of Magdalen. She's holding a human skull, in a dark room staring at the reflection of candlelight in a mirror. A few that way and another of her without a mirror looking at a smoking candle, still the skull. And another that looks like she's unclothed and nealing, looking into the eye's of the skull. They seem to hold a common feature of penitence. One of these paintings of Magdalen is in the background of disney's little mermaid, one of the items she collected from the world of man.

57 I rather like this painting. The figure of the woman holding the book, the shadows and even the chair are so well done. I applaud the effective use of candle light in paintings. But the bright light on Mary's face and the book are a bit too intense, distracting. Also, Mary seems too flat compared to the rest of the image. Again, it's distracting.

61 French Baroque. De la Tour is known for his paintings of dark interiors with a single light source. He was inspired by Caravaggio, but Caravaggio's light sources were off-canvas. By putting the light source in the work, de la Tour produces even more complex contrasts between light and dark. Many times the source is a small candle. To me, this enhances the contrast but also quiets the mood and tone of the work. Here, the theme is very intimate and simple. A quiet moment between mother and child. I also like how the actual flame is covered by Mary's hand. It illuminates her gesture and her hand glows. If you're into symbolism, it could be said that the single light represents Christ, but Mary covering it means He hasn't come yet.

First shalt thou light the Holy Fuse. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Stick of Dynamite towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it

72 'The Education of the Virgin' is a Baroque oil on canvas painting created by Georges de La Tour in 1650. It lives at the The Frick Collection in New York. The Frick site uses "Studio of...".

For some reason I can't find the precis on the Frick website even though DDG gave me this blurb: "This vivid night scene depicts the young Virgin Mary being taught to read by her mother, St. Anne. The candle is virtually a signature of the 17th-century French painter Georges de la Tour. Here, its flame glows through the child's hand. The figure of St. Anne is better preserved than that of the Virgin, whose doll-like face has been much[...]."

The "Additional Information" sidebar includes, "The authorship of this painting has been much debated. Recent studies of the several surviving versions suggest that all may be replicas of a lost original by Georges de La Tour. Yet some scholars maintain that the Frick canvas is the original; it has been attributed to the artist's son Etienne primarily because of the form of its signature. The painter's striking use of light imbues the popular genre motif of St. Anne teaching her daughter to read the Bible with a hushed aura of reverence."

A single light source but the child's face is excessively whitened by the flame. There should be more of a reddish hue, as the woman on the right side.

Unless time or restoration changed, which I suppose is possible if the artist used washes of color over the girls face.

My hand won't do that. I have that hand-finger thing where my pinky and ring finger are mostly not able to move independently. I think a good number of people, about half, have some degree of that. You can improve it somewhat with hand exercises but for some people like me that's just the way it is. So piano and guitar are probably out.

Lack of cultural experience or education may be a factor - people back then didn't travel much and most weren't highly educated. They might not have known how people actually dressed in those countries and times.

It was fashionable, possibly because of the resources they had, for artists to portray the past in the clothing of the present. You might see a painting of a scene in Roman history, for instance, and while the soldiers are shown in armor, the armor is not period correct. It could be more like the military outfits of the painter's own time, or like what the painter's own time thought ancient Roman centurions wore.

119 Yesterday when I opined that interstate travel will at some point (my money is before Christmas) be restricted to those "fully vaccinated," someone asked well who would enforce that?

This is from an article that was posted at Hot Air:

Quarantine officers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will spot-check passengers who arrive in the U.S. for compliance, according to an administration official. Airlines that don't enforce the requirements could be subject to penalties of up to nearly $35,000 per violation.

Now that is for the new international traveler requirement. But, there you have it. Quarantine officers. I am going to guess they will get uniforms, and some tranny will be the admiral of it.

That depends somewhat on what "booster" means. If it requires *one* extra shot, that doesn't mean it's temporary, it means they got the size and dosing wrong. That's not exactly a good thing given that they pushed it out before they knew anything and made it mandatory.

190 I am interested in how they're going to spin the booster. Will it be sold as a one-and-done, or as a one-of-many-forever?

In approving the booster for older adults, they didn't discuss further booster shots, so they are clearly doing to frog boil the population on this.

Just get the shot.
Just get the booster
Just get this one last booster
Just get this quarterly booster (which they'll likely avoid the term booster for)

and so on.

Boosters every 4-6 months is perfectly reasonable for seriously deadly disease that is highly communicable. Almost 100% of people who catch COVID (and actually know about it) survive. It is not a 'serious deadly disease'.

If Fauci wants to make the booster like the flu vaccine, fine. But they need to treat people who don't get the booster like they treat people who don't get an annual flu shot.

The policies in general are not reality-oriented. There is a major huge psychological difference between twice a year and three times. If they're looking for a permanent booster policy, it will be once or twice a year. That will sell and stick for a long time. Demanding three or four is much harder.

Just a guess, of course.

This may expose what the real agenda is though. If the junta doesn't really push boosters, they just want to use vaccination numbers to claim they beat covid.

If they push yearly boosters it would just be a sop to the bottom line of big pharma.

And more common boosters then that are likely an attempt to reduce the population.

Posted by: kallisto at October 27, 2021 09:49 AM (DJFLF)

246 (1) Because a knowledge of letters is entirely indispensable to a country, it is certain that they should not be indiscriminately taught to everyone. A body which had eyes all over it would be monstrous, and in like fashion so would a state if all its subjects were learned; one would find little obedience and an excess of pride and presumption.

(2) The commerce of letters would drive out that of goods, from which the wealth of the state is derived. It would ruin agriculture, the true nourishment of the people, and in time would dry up the source of soldiery, whose ranks flow more from the crudities of ignorance than from refinements of knowledge.

(3) It would, indeed, fill France with quibblers more suited to the ruination of good families and the upsetting of public order than to doing any good for the country.

(4) If learning were profaned by extending it to all kinds of people one would see far more men capable of raising doubts than of resolving them, and many would be better able to oppose truth than to defend it.

(5) It is for this reason that statesmen in a well-run country would wish to have as teachers more masters of mechanic arts than of liberal arts.

And thank to our Kafkocracy, that becomes mandatory. Once you follow the thread:
- A Biden EO created a "task force" to make recommendations
- Another Biden EO mandated that all federal employers and contractors take COVID measures
- The specific COVID measures they must take are defined by the Task Force
- The measures defined by the Task Force are approved by the director of the OMB
- The Task Force relies on CDC data
- The Task Force requires that all employees must be "fully vaccinated."

Pulling that thread made me feel like I was going insane - the key requirement for something to be "Kafkaesque." We have an EO enforcing rules that don't exist, to be created by a group formed through a different EO, and all of the health policy decisions are signed off on by the budget division. It's unaccountable, open-ended, insane, evil and illegal. Not that any of that matters...

If they did you'd see that the change in positive numbers is a primary effect of the change in the total number rushing out to be tested.

330 That isn't allowed in NH either. Comments are directed to the Chair. People are required to identify themselves and their address to show that they are actually residents of the town/city. If you don't own property in the town, or you don't have kids going to the school -- you don't get to speak.

Ilhan Omar tweets: "our office received a package with a suspicious substance and a threat reading "The Patriarchy will rise again. Merry f***ing Christmas.""

Person A: Sounds kkkinda racist.
Fighting imaginary threats, while ignoring the real ones.
Person B: Racist? I don't see anything racist
Sexist more likely.
Person C: They managed to do both.
Merry fucking Christmas to a Muslim.
Person D with the intersectional trump card: Implicit in patriarchy is white patriarchy in this case.

All for an event that, let's be honest, is probably a hoax the left is doing to itself to generate support.

We're seeing the early stages of the usual Democrat's Version of the Old Switcheroo, where they blame Republicans for their stupidity and trouble generated thereby.

All of this gross evil news about Fauci is the beginning of it. And you can see the outlines already. It'll go something like this:

"We were bamboozled by Dread Fauci, the evil racist who did Nazilike human experiments on Black and Brown Children and who tortured dogs to death but worst of all (new outrage to be supplied here as the climax, perhaps Fauci as Father of COVID-19).

We now know why the Evil Moron Racist Trump picked Fauci to head his taskforce. Because Racist Fauci had tortured minority children to their death and Trump lo-o-oved that. He wanted another Tuskegee!!!1111!!!

Etc...the Dims need to keep both Blacks and Wine Moms on their plantation and this will do it. Damn that Trump and his COVID Tuskegee!!!! Good thing, President Joe Biden figured out the conspiracy!!11!!
