Posted by: redridinghood at November 12, 2021 09:50 AM (NpAcC)

32 I always thought Remington was supposed to be kind of amateurish, but this one looks sophisticated/painterly to me. Especially the grass and the way that the color washes out as the group of riders recedes into the background.

Posted by: Geronimo Stilton at November 12, 2021 09:50 AM (sGnvY)

33 I love Remington's paintings, but then I love paintings of the Old West, and sometimes the current West as well.

The cavalryman on the far left looks like he's wearing a mask -- which in a dust-swirling cavalry charge would actually make sense!

If this is supposed to be the *southern* Plains, then this wouldn't be Gen. Custer and his men. The fellow with the handlebar mustache and upraised pistol is clearly an officer, though: no sleeve stripes, and there is a bar on his left shoulder. Perhaps this is modeled on General Crook, who dealt with the Apaches in the southwest.

49 Today's art show's how badly the Trump maladministration ruined the country, symbolized by the buffalo skull. The Army has finally woke up and and is sending in their best and brightest to rout out those who infest the land. The Army is headed to the bright new left, symbolizing the resurgence from that way by the norm restoring Biden Administration. The troops have their weapons out, ready to destroy any maga-tards who stand in the way, symbolized by the empty space in the painting because the red hatted cowards have run away, knowing their time is over.

Since this is a small squad (ca. 16-20 men) going into action, I suspect the officer is a lieutenant or captain, not a general.

Singing, "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses."

The look on Harlow and Sciutto's faces while he was making that argument was a sight to behold. Their heads were bobbing back like they were taking blows to the face with every statement he made.

The horse might well trip and spill him, breaking its leg in the process. Clearly the skull is a sort of proto-land mine planted by the Comanches or Apaches.
