An acclaimed Spanish-language novel, believed to have been written by a woman, turns out to have actually been written by three men under a female pseudonym.

On Friday, the literary world in Spain was turned on its head after the acclaimed female crime thriller author "Carmen Mola" was revealed to be the pseudonym of three men when awarded a coveted book prize.
When taking the state at the Planeta awards on Friday, television scriptwriters Agustín Martínez, Jorge Díaz, and Antonio Mercero shocked guests, including Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia, when they said that the crime author does not exist, according to CNN.
Mola's agent describes the writer on their website as a "Madrid-born author" writing under a pseudonym in an attempt to remain anonymous. The website also features a number of photos of an unknown woman looking away from the camera.
"In previous interviews with Spanish media, Martínez, Díaz and Mercero had presented Mola as a female university professor who lived in Madrid with her husband and children," according to CNN.

If you can believe this Plot Twist, feminists are angry.

Following the announcement of Mola's true identity, Beatriz Gimeno, who describes herself as a writer and a feminist and is the former director of the Women's Institute in Spain, criticized the three men on Twitte
In a tweet, Gimeno said: "Beyond using a female pseudonym, these guys have spent years doing interviews. It's not just the name, it's the fake profile they've used to take in readers and journalists. Scammers."

The feminist is mad because they "stole" the prize from a woman.

But if women are being discriminated against -- rather than being discriminated in favor of -- then how would three dudes pretending to be a woman been at a competitive advantage, either as regards acceptance by a publisher, or sales in the marketplace, or the winning of prestigious literary awards?

Sounds like this bitter shrew is just angry that men saw the game was rigged against them and changed their marketing campaign to beat the corrupt system.

By the way: The prize they won? It wasn't just getting your name inscribed on a plaque.

It was a one million Euro prize.

Whether it's possible or not, it's still rude. Seriously, Batman is rude. I stopped liking the character ten years ago when I noticed how unceasingly, needlessly rude he was to everyone.

I think the lesson here is that yes, Batman can disappear when you're not looking, but this is not spontaneous. This rude dick has to scout the scene ahead of time to figure out where he can vanish to, and he has to intentionally misdirect you as he's about to vanish. Also, he will probably have to remain in his hiding place until you've given up and gone back to your normal business, which means he's going to be spending five or ten minutes every time he vanishes on someone hiding.

Time he could be spending on crime-fighting, instead of trying to bother and confuse his allies.

So yes, it can be done, but you'd have to be an asshole to do this to your friends.

The med center isn't in a nice area of Santa Ana--it is a refurbished Kaiser Permanente that had traouble running in the black due, to the nature of the clientele, there.

trust me, it's a very odd place to take a famous person for treatment.

UC Irvine is hard to get into--a good STEM school, and not a lot of nonsense, there. But no where near where the med center is.

You do realize that Jesus probably spoke Aramaic in public, quoted the Scriptures in Hebrew. Yet the apostles wrote the Gospels largely in koine Greek decades after the LORD ascended.

Now imagine how well you can reconstruct the dialog that you heard spoken once twenty to thirty years prior - then modernize and translate it into the local language.

Sure - so were movie serials and gothic novels and romance novels. In fact, it is something of a feature to not vary too far from the formula, so that people will get light entertainment and not have to concentrate too hard or get to sucked in by it all. The good writers make it all seem smooth and unique, the bad ones let you see the fill in the blank marks.

I read Silas in HS, one of those boys, but I actually liked it once it got rolling. I also liked Pride and Prejudice, amazed how racy it was compared to what you would expect, tho Dickens irked me about how everyone you met in passing in chapter 2 would be vitally important at the end of the book. Doesn't anyone just run into people and then never meet them again.

Then I found aging SF authors spending books to try and tie all their stuff into one universe too, so it must be some writer economy. Fairly miscast, because surely it is more to their credit to imagine several dozen worlds than just one big one?

My choice to read them (picked them up at library sales) within the last 20 years, I guess. Middlemarch was highly regarded by the lit crits but Mill on the Floss was somewhat of a wild card I got thoroughly engrossed in. When there were like 15 pages left I wondered how she could possibly wrap so many loose ends up in a credible manner. Then the rain started...
