104 Speaking of trees with red fungus on them.

I was walking a few weeks ago through a nature preserve with the lovely and athletic Mrs naturalfake.
When I saw something that looked like droplets of blood splattered on a rotting log.

Looking closer I saw that the "droplets" looked like slime mold and that the droplets weren't bright red so much as looking like someone had mixed equal portions of blood and milk.

Anywho, I took a picture and this fungus is called "Wolf's Milk".
Here's an article on the sm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycogala_epidendrum
When I saw it, the "droplets" weren't clumped together but separate like a splatter.

Anyone familiar with a legend or folk tale as to why wolf's milk should be considered red?

Somehow it is like a 'surprised by joy' milieu.

Dayum, that sounds pretentious, but it is not meant that way at all. I grew up with near-traffic accidents from 'stump covers' peering out of the trees. Casual art meant to be enjoyed by everyone.

268 There are replicas that only fire blanks, a company in miami sold them-forget the name though. But, even blanks can kill at short distances because the escaping hot gases and the wad to keep the powder in come out at a tremendous velocity in a couple of thousand feet per second.

But, the large prop companies that provide firearms to the movies usually use the real thing especially in semi auto or automatic firearms.

I doubt that all movie shoots follow all the rules. The way to prevent this is to educate every person about the four cardinal rules of gun safety. If an individual follows these rules, as his own personal responsibility, (i.e., not as a 'work rule' or protocol) then this cannot happen.

309 "As CGI is used more and more, they won't have to use real guns."

Movies need gunplay. Look at a random set of movie posters. Half of them have an actor holding a gun. Gunfire gets people to watch. Superb movies have been made, and are made, without any guns in the plot at all, but if you want popular box office, you usually need to write guns into your movie.

325 309 As CGI is improved, it is very possible that you simply eliminate one of the more expensive elements in film--actors. As a CGI problem, it might be easier to actually synthetically reproduce a human figure firing a gun via CGI than to CGI produce a firearm in a person's hands. To get realistic actions of firing a gun from an actor, that actor would probably have to have some sort of handgun in their hands anyway.

348 OrangeEnt,
Other than a few AOS regulars that post frequently as a means of talking with each other, most AOS posts including mine do not get return comments. Not a bug but a feature.

Part of it is the stream of consciousness of the blog software, part of it is there are probably about ten lurkers reading the comments for every person that posts. Lurkers rarely comment but are usually reading the comments for the biting, incisive, and comedic quotes of the AOS commentariat or they spend all their time reading the original post and assorted links.

357 345 CRT, the voice synthesizer programs are rapidly improving in quality due to so many people using google, siri, alexa, etc. voice commands and by their arbitrarily recording snippets of various conversations for 'quality purposes'.

The visual looks of CGI of actors still have the uncanny problem where people find them close enough to be creepy and it takes more computing power to render graphics than voice. But, some of the features of the new cpus that PixyMisa posts are simply incredible in their power which reduces the rendering costs for CGI exponentially. Might just be a decade or so away assuming no SMOD in the meantime. A rendered CGI total film does away with a lot of costs and the first one will probably be forgettable like the Jazz Singer except as a mark of changing 'film' from one form to another.
