In a possible sign of a coming red wave, a pastor and tax advisor has flipped an Iowa state house seat from Democrat to Republican for the first time in decades.

A pastor and tax adviser will become the first Republican to represent Newton in the Iowa state House in decades after winning a special election Tuesday to fill a vacancy in a once ancestrally Democratic manufacturing hub that has moved to the right in recent years.

Jon Dunwell (R), making his second run for the legislative seat, beat out Democratic opponent Steve Mullen by a 60 percent to 40 percent margin. About 1 in 5 voters in the Jasper County-based seat turned out to vote, according to the county auditor's office.

Dunwell is the second Republican to win a formerly Democratic-held legislative seat since President Biden took office, after a Republican won a state Senate seat in Connecticut over the summer.

The district voted 60% for Trump in 2020, and 57% for Trump in 2016.

But in 2012, it went 56% for Obama.

Jen Psaki says "we cannot guarantee" that Americans will get their gifts on time this Christmas

New York Times "journalist" admits that the danger posed to unvaccinated children by covid is so vanishingly small that it's difficult to even quantify. You need actual numbers to run the numbers.

David Leonhardt
@DLeonhardt

The more encouraging half of the story is kids.

For those without a serious medical condition, the danger of severe Covid is so low as to be difficult to quantify. For children with such a condition, the danger is higher but still lower than many people believe.

David Leonhardt
@DLeonhardt
An unvaccinated child is at less risk of serious Covid illness than a vaccinated 70-year-old.

There is both good news and bad news in that comparison.

In fact, he notes, other data sets show that the danger for unvaccinated children is either lower than that posed to vaccinated fifty year olds (and note that even unvaccinated, 50 year olds are not terribly threatened by serious covid cases) and may even be lower than the danger posed to vaccinated 30 year olds.

And 30 year olds have very, very low odds of catching a bad case of covid. Even less so if they're vaccinated. (Or so the experts tell us.)

And unvaccinated children are less threatened than any of those vaccinated age groups.

August saw 4.3 million people quit their jobs, what some are calling "The Great Resignation."

Almost 3% of workers handed in their resignations in August, a record, the government reported Tuesday. The number of people quitting rose to 4.3 million, dwarfing the number of layoffs from employers, who cut 1.3 million jobs the same month.

Those findings come on the heels of last week's jobs report, which found that almost 300,000 women left the labor force in September. That means all of September's employment gains -- when employers added a meager 194,000 jobs-- were due to a bump in men finding new jobs.

More than half a million quit in the stressed (supposedly) health care sector.

More than half a million health care workers quit their jobs in August, according to a new report from the Labor Department.

The report, known as the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, showed that about 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs in August--the highest on record since December 2000.

About 534,000 health care workers quit their jobs in August, up from about 404,000 during the same month in 2020.

The numbers suggest health care workers handed in their resignations in droves--fueling ongoing concerns of staffing shortages--as the highly contagious Delta variant caused COVID-19 hospitalizations to soar across the U.S. over the summer.

Record-high numbers of Americans working in other public-facing roles also quit their jobs as coronavirus cases surged.

They're suggesting they quit because they were afraid of catching covid. Note that they will not even hint at the live possibility that they quit because of covid mandates.

This video by a trans "woman" raging at a manager of a Sonic has gone viral. But not entirely for the reasons the tranny believes.

Eden Torres
@edentorres121

1.1 million views and countless trans people commenting confirming this is discrimination and transphobia and NOT ONE WORD from @sonicdrivein. All I want is them to hire a trans led org to train every single employee on how to properly affirm us.

Yes, we know the grift by now: Every "confrontation" staged by a trans person (or any leftwing SJW) against a normie is just a thinly-disguised demand for the normie to give them a job (as an SJW Wrongthink Punisher) or some money.

The video is great. The Sonic manager is being bullied and scolded, but is always polite.

New term: "Trans-competent." Meaning you've been forcibly educated about how to refer to trans people and how to decipher their bizarre system of pronouns.

The trans thing demands to know, "What would you assume I am to look at me?" This Sonic manager responds, accurately and honestly, "I would assume you're a man.

Legend or Hero?

Possibly both? Perhaps he's transitioning from a Hero to a Legend?

CNN's "director of strategic comms worldwide" posted this video of him dodging bullets (though it seems as if the bullets were fired at someone else) in Northwest DC, the wealthy (and formerly lawful) part of DC.

If you're over 30 and double-vaxxed, you're more likely to contract Covid than if you are unvaccinated according to latest UK govt data.

If you're over 40, you're almost 2x as likely

Therefore 1 of the key premises behind mandated vaccines seems to be demonstrably false.

41 The vaccine reactions listed in her letter depict healthy individuals suffering serious and fatal injuries including transverse myelitis, resulting in quadriplegia, pneumocystis pneumonia, multi-system organ failure, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, post partum hemorrhagic shock and septic chock, and disseminated CMV and CMV viremia. Lee noted these in an October 6 follow-up letter issued by her attorneys to the same agencies.
Dr. Lee noted that "approximately half of the patients detailed" in her letter have since died. "Those who survived are struggling with long-term sequelae and a diminished quality of life," she wrote.

"It appears statistically improbable that any one physician should witness this many Covid-19 vaccine injuries if the federal health authority claims regarding Covid-19 safety were accurate."

But the problem is caused by Calif law. Most of the trucks that serviced the Ports were Owner operated, and worked short contracts and gigs. When Calif outlawed gig work, they killed the Owner Operator, which means only trucking companies can operate here... and they won't take those short haul loads, when they can make more by doing interstate stuff.

Add in that you can no longer license a big rig unless it was built in 2011 or later? and they killed the small trucking industry here.... so shit is just sitting on the piers... which means they can't unload other ships. Making the ports go 24/7 won't do a damn thing.

One other point: company liabilty guidelines for trucking companies MANDATE that the drivers specifically NOT do what Biden is saying- in order to save lives and, more importantly, not make the company liable for those lives.

Hell, I am not too familiar with that business, but I would also assume that there are Dept of Transportation rules against that sort of thing.

141 We are seeing that some doctors just aren't very smart.

Even of they are reasonably smart, a lot just aren't very well informed. If you read a lot of doctor depos in prescription drug cases, you start to notice that an awful lot of them write prescriptions without of a whole lot of independent thought. My favorites - though admittedly rarer - were always the guys who would admit they had not even read the relevant label ever or for some outlandish period of time. The reason the gov cracked down so hard on pharma reps wasn't because they weren't ineffective at moving those pills.

Yeah, except Federal Regulations on truckers say you can't do that, because you can only really pick up and deliver during the day when the business is open, and regs say you can drive 11 hours of a 14 hours 'drive time' but than HAVE to take 10 hours off. Gave up long ago/don't follow it like I used to yadda yadda, but I believe the Nordics have ended vaccination of the young. That they (or anyone) are still pursuing mass vaccination of adults, given the data on vaccinated illness and mortality, is yet another monument to a post-scientific regression of "modern" societies, probably.

Obligatory: Crossbowmen would have required less training, and used less material for their arrows.

342 Conservatism is dying due to politeness and too often turning the other cheek IMO.

A lot of the time, it's not politeness so much as cowardice. A fair number of conservatives told folks that if they went along with Lawrence and the subsequent gay marriage business everything was going to be on the table. But most conservatives decided that saying what everyone had been saying about sexuality since Christendom became a thing was embarrassing and that being perceived as a bigot was way, way worse than just abandoning all traditional beliefs. Sure, we're transitioning 8 year olds, but you don't have to stand up for anything anymore. Except capital gains tax cuts, I guess. What a relief.

I was in a hotel with nothing to do, and while channel surfing I encountered the disclaimer part of a prescription drug commercial on TV that referred to "pregnant people."

If we torture the language much more than this nobody will have any idea what anyone else is saying. If someone is pregnant that means she has a womb. In other words, no matter what plastic surgery or hormones she has had, that person is female. This is the definition of the sex, not a declaration of what they do in the bedroom or how they present themselves in public.

346 I'm considering going back into some consulting. I have a few concerns. I've sold my design companies, the last one in 2005. My previous career maybe used as a sales tool. My name still has some cache and I want that extra $ if I do. Also, even when i consulted it was only for a single project although companies always wanted more.

If I have the gumption to work, I work 14 hours a day. Nothing but just I'm a bit OBCOM on projects. That is why I had to sell.

So I will not be any negotiation mode at all.

349 If you're over 30 and double-vaxxed, you're more likely to contract Covid than if you are unvaccinated according to latest UK govt data.

If you're over 40, you're almost 2x as likely

Therefore 1 of the key premises behind mandated vaccines seems to be demonstrably false.

OR the real reason behind the Giant Vax Push is to kill as many people as possible. Just to do it and\or keep the pandemic going for control purposes by keeping the fear up.
