Terry McAuliffe, 2021: Don't Vote for Glenn Youngkin, He Questions the 2020 Election
Terry McAuliffe, 2004: George Bush "Stole" the 2000 Election

Terry McAuliffe's chief line of attack on Republican Glenn Youngkin is that Youngkin is too "Trumpy." A main piece of evidence for this attack is that Glenn Youngkin talks up... election integrity. This, McAuliffe claims, is kinda-sorta like saying the 2020 election was stolen, and this is disqualifying.

So here's Terry McAuliffe in 2004 stating that Al Gore won the 2000 election but it was "stolen."

McAuliffe isn't the only hyperpartisan corrupt liberal Democrat who has flip-flopped on whether it's disqualifying to call an election "stolen."

Jake Tapper Virtue Signals to his leftwing viewers (including AllahPundit) that he won't have on any Republicans who question the 2020 election results, calling any suggestion of a tainted election a Hitlerian "Big Lie."

He wants you to forget he literally wrote an entire book claiming the 2000 election was stolen.

The former Democratic staffer's book was called, Down and Dirty: The Plot to Steal the Presidency.

Even CNN -- where Jake Tapper was working, even back then, as a panelist on a talking heads show -- gave his book a negative review and suggested Tapper was engaging in conspiracy theorizing, and furthermore, as a Tapper chryon would say, "Without Evidence."

What Tapper doesn't do is justify the title of his book. The tactics employed by both candidates may have been something short of pristine ethically, but the author offers no evidence of "dirty" dealings by either side. Did political convictions color their actions? Of course. Did they break the law? Probably not.

Was there a conspiracy by one candidate or the other to gain the White House by theft? If there was, Tapper offers nothing to prove it.

He does uncover one tidbit much more unsavory than anything that was seen on television during the recount. Citing a single source, he asserts that a post-election conference call among GOP "operatives" included a discussion of how to pump up the military absentee vote for Bush:

"According to a knowledgeable Republican operative, in the course of the conversation they discussed having political operatives aboard and near military bases encourage soldiers who had registered to vote - but hadn't yet done so - to fill out their ballots and send them in. Voter registration ID made it so they could identify not only which soldiers, sailors, and airmen were Democrat and which were Republican, but which were black and which were white. They would target the right ones."

If such an operation was carried out and the ballots were in fact included in the final tabulation, then laws were broken. But Tapper offers no evidence that anything came of the conversation. He even admits, in a postscript, that he didn't make his case: "Whomever you think the subtitle of the book applies to, we [Americans] are the ones who let him try to steal the presidency."

And meanwhile, via Logan Hall: The leftwing propaganda machine continues to have distinctly different rules about who is and who is not permitted to claim an election was stolen.

20 Unwillowing myself...

Not sure I agree that easing of Covid will result in improved economy.

The economy will improve after the ending of Covid restrictions, and that is unlikely to happen much in the next year in blue states.

The supply disruptons and worker shortage doesn't seem to be going anywhere and those aren't driven by actual Covid infections. They seem to be independent of the disease now.

Add in a high number of highly skilled, yet unemployed workers who have been fired because of vax mandates. That will be a significant shift of productive to dependant.

And if the Dems manage to get their $5T spending spree, it will suck any recovery out of the economy.

I don't see a scenario where Dems get credit for an improving economy, unless they stop acting like Dems.

Prediction: Republicans take the House and gain a slim majority in the Senate starting in 2023.

The economy starts improving because there's a lessened threat of messing with the economy through statute and Republican gains in state houses help end state level covid lockdown measures. This will improve the economy overall.

And a reminder. 2000 is 21 years ago. Let's set the age where a precocious kid gets interested in politics at 13. That means for anyone 34 years old and younger, they really have no memory at all of what this 2000 thing that the Fascist Republicans keep bringing up is all about.

111 If Abrams wins in GA it is because of people refusing to vote for Kemp, not voting for her.

There are a large number of GOP voters who won't vote for Kemp because they are pissed about 2020. Baris has good polling on it.

Also the GOP primary is waiting for Trump to endorse. Both Kemp and Jones support shifts by 20 points to a majority in the primary when asked "would you support if Trump endorses"

Best scenario for Abrams is Trump endorses Jones and Kemp still manages to win the primary. This outcome ensures Abrams will win.

131 Part Deux of the CA recall bit, since Pixy thinks I'm spam every time I try to post more than ten lines:

Take Cole's Trumpist-bashing however you want, he's right on the recall.

The Democrats made it Newsom-vs-Elder, and there was no coordinated opposition - in particular, to keep Elder out.

This one was winnable. On property rights, on repeated attempts to reinstate affirmative action, on schools, on COVID lockdown.

But you'd need serious funding behind it. And even the hardest-right of us hard-right remember Schwarzenegger, we'd push the button for a media celebrity only with GREAT reluctance.

Newsom is the most moderate of Democrats this state is going to get, at least on the face, and THAT's saying horrible things in itself.

The Dems in power are largely even older than the average age here, and keep harkening back to days which are the equivalent of the Gilded Age for them. Nobody even knows what the hell Kent State was, and even 9/11 seems like ages ago to modern people. But nearly every analogy they use is from the 1970s or earlier.

Ask 50 people today what the -gate at the end of scandals is for, and they'll respond in the same kind of way when you ask a zoomer what the save icon on their computer represents.

So you get all kinds of "fact checks" such as "no proof of fraud" that are beside the point: like telling someone its "false" that the US "won WWII" because there were Russians and the English too.

I sent him an email the next day with nothing but happy thoughts for him, never bringing up the fact that I had previously asked him to try and read my George Washington book in the hope that he would help me get some contact with an agent.

He wrote me back this morning, asking about the Washington book (he probably just searched my previous emails), and I gave him a very brief tale of how no one is interested in talking to me. So, maybe, maybe he'll decide on his own to invest a few minutes in his very busy schedule to forward the manuscript to his agent. Fingers crossed.

340 Demonstration of hypocrisy is useful because it appeals at an emotional level for people whose eyes glaze or cannot comprehend when you make rational or historical arguments. For people brought up on public schools and texting, you cannot build a reasonable argument.

Virginia has a complicated history. Elections for governor are every four years, but one year off from Presidential. Media likes to say that the governor's race is often a referendum on how the President is doing. Eh, not so much. Virginia of course is the home of Jefferson the founder of the Democrat party, and has for most of its existence been pretty much all Democrat. In the 90s the pendulum swung some, and we had two moderate Republicans elected, then in 2009 we elected a real conservative. But the Obama DOJ convicted him of something that wasn't even a crime. His AG (Cuccinelli) came close but there are many reasons he lost.

And along a similar line of thinking, how many people now alive remember Joe Biden running in the Demo primary in 1988, when he plagiarized Neil Kinnock and was humiliated out of the race?
Or Biden's behavior as chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee during the Clarence Thomas hearings?

I know that Biden is and always has been an asshole. Because I'm old and shit. But people who barely remember him as Obama's VP think he's a great guy. 20 - somethings.
Like my oldest son who voted for Biden and now realizes what a dumb thing that was to do. He absolutely regrets voting for Biden. It made no real difference, because Trump easily carried Ohio, but that kind of thinking, or lack of thinking, is everywhere.
