The parole board for Texas on Monday voted to recommend a posthumous pardon for George Floyd, the black man who died at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis last year. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted 7–0 to recommend a full pardon of a drug charge Floyd pleaded guilty to in 2004, according to minutes of a meeting obtained by The Epoch Times. “We lament the loss of former Houstonian George Floyd and hope that his family finds comfort in Monday’s decision,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, a Democrat, said in a statement.I guess he should have stayed in Houston. Police say Thomas Conrad was busted Saturday afternoon following a dispute over a gardener cutting grass outside his home in Sorrento, a city 30 miles from Orlando. Conrad’s next-door neighbor, Jack Henson, 46, told police that his “lawn guy was being yelled at by [Conrad] for being on his property while cutting the grass.” Conrad recalled telling the gardener to “get off his property,” according to an arrest affidavit. After asking Conrad “numerous times” to leave them alone, Henson recalled, an “agitated and aggressive” Conrad declared, “I should punch you.” Henson said he replied, “Go ahead, but I wouldn’t advise or police will get called.” Over the years human life has become just another disposable item. About three years ago, one of my son's buddies was driving an old carbureted Jeep he was restoring to school. The engine backfired as he was parking it. The whole school went in to active shooter mode.
My son, who has had perfect games at the trap and skeet ranges, knew immediately that this wasn't a gunshot. But he couldn't convince his assistant principal that this was not a danger. They brought in the police and locked the place down. I guess they wanted the practice or something. And we wonder why our high schools are circling the drain... Americans rightfully fear that current culture will adversely affect our ability to fight war globally. But it is more provable that culture is affected by war than vice versa. Yes, WWI proved the Austro-Hungarian empire was a fallacy, but it did reduce the Victorian age ethos to dust, that it could not advance society against modern geo-political conflict.
WWI effected post modern life in ways unknown prior to its pre-war Edwardian era - and that post-modern era life that it created changed greatly again after the horror of WWII. It will change again in the next global struggle. Do not lament the current cultural movement - it will be swept away in the next global conflict that seems to arise in history every 50-75 years or so. Posted by: Romeo13 at October 05, 2021 09:30 PM (oHd/0) A great point about war and its cultural well-spring, the Boy Scouts. Yes, the Boy Scouts are morte, their service to our youth now done. But the cultural upheaval that peace since the 70's have brought and caused their demise will itself be entombed in the ultimate time capsule that the next conflict brings. Every large global conflict brings about cultural upheaval, good and bad. But the universal element in the upheaval is that the culture that came before it is buried in that musty tomb we call history. Posted by: Boswell at October 05, 2021 09:39 PM (5iUNf) 181

Hilarity in Portland!
Portland Antifa is a pale shadow of what it was earlier. They tried having a riot in downtown Portland a few nights before, only a handful of people showed up to graffiti things, and the cops didn't even bother to respond. (Gosh, it's almost like Portland Antifa had its funding and organization pulled after Biden was elected.) So, the sad Portland Antifa types have gone to Twitter to beg for money, engage in backbiting, and demonstrating their depression and other mental illnesses. However, a new scandal has hit - for several years Luis Marquez has been one of the most prominent people in Portland Antifa. He enjoys spitting on conservatives at demonstrations, and accusing anyone who questions him of racism. The usual, in other words. However, it now turns out that Luis has been secretly sleeping with a female member of the Proud Boys for months, and has been providing her with the personal information of Portland Antifa members to impress her. Instant turmoil in Antifa-land. Can't understand why Luis decided to sleep with an attractive conservative woman, when he could have had his pick of obese, pink-haired left-wing women who hate men. George Floyd's TX pardon is not coming due to any "virtue" on Floyd's part. Rather, it's one of over a thousand convictions being vacated, pardoned, commuted or otherwise done away with, all due to the actions of one VERY corrupt cop. Detective Goins, who's false affadavits and testimony resulted in the MURDER of two innocent Houston residents in a wholly fabricated cause to make a no-knock "drug raid" against a couple who had nothing more than some pot residue in their house.
The Houston PD squad under Goins shot the shit out of the house, dog, husband and wife. All under false testimony to get another "raid" to Goins' credit. That Detective has been indicted and fired, but not as yet tried. But it's as solid a case as will ever be seen. Oh, black on black crime by the way. Goins is black. The couple he's responsible for killin' in the miscast "drug raid" though, white and kinda rednecky. But Goins put Floyd away, and ANY testimony given by Goins going back to the start of his career, well, it's enough to see ALL of his cases/convictions from those cases, tossed. >> 80% natural immunity is a thing.
We should call that "resistance" not true natural derived immunity. That last blood donor which went to the end of May, had about 20% of the population have N-antibodies, which is the true marker of natural immunity. It's probably higher now, after this last wave. But that 80% thing is a thing. There is disagreement. Some hold it is immune cross-reactivity from previous exposure to various other coronaviruses (colds) that have pieces close enough to the current virus to trigger a response. They have evidence to back that up. Others, such as Vanden Bossche disagree. Vanden Bossche had a long post about that. He holds that 80% resistance comes from regular innate immunity, and makes his argument for that. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (f1Vqw) at October 05, 2021 10:06 PM (f1Vqw) 261

I was a teen when Steve Miller had his string of radio hits. Obviously we didn't have internet back then but it wasn't really made aware to us that Steve was old enough to have been active in 67-68. The belief was that rockers were supposed to be early mid 20s as far as us teens were concerned. We didn't know how old Ric Ocasek of the Cars was either. But we were told that Steve was an ace guitar player, because that was a big selling point. I always liked Jungle Love the best out of those songs for the guitar. I got bored and looked up a contemporary live video of that song being played in a concert. Steve wasn't playing lead, some other guy was. Weird, I thought.

Posted by: Zettai at October 05, 2021 10:40 PM (o/bie) No, not buying that. Laminated rock, like shale or slate, the laminations, at least some of them, would be accentuated by erosion, as some layers would be more resistant than others. Limestone can be be pretty black, as it often has high organic content. And that bluff on the far side is textbook limestone. The geological symbol for limestone looks like a block wall. This stuff is physically resistant, since it sticks up out of the river bed gravel, but chemically soluble. Which fits limestone to a "T". I think it is a mudstone, it doesn't have shale stirations, and it is fissuring in a square pattern. The color and texture are about right for mudstones that I have played with. It is a nice stone, it ranges between crumbly when really dry, but nice when river smooth. If you take a chunk from a river bank and put it on the shelf it dries out and starts fragmenting.

re abstract art: enjoyable piece, but something I have come to believe is that much of modern art has taken the idea of "conceptual" art (Yoko. sorry, but yes) to such an extreme that it inverts the definition of art espoused by a professor I respected greatly, back in the *mumble mumbles* when I was studying for my degree, back before the humanities were destroyed:

I have read that for decades the main thing taught in art school is that the purpose of art is to shock the middle class. Basically the equivalent of spraypainting naughty words on a church. The wealthy who pay big money for art reinforce this by paying big money for the "works" and the bonus for the "artists" is that it is easier to come up with something shocking than it is to learn actual art skills Posted by: Azjaeger at October 05, 2021 11:02 PM (3/XaG) 370

Athletes sometimes use magnesium to increase energy and endurance. Some people apply magnesium on their skin to treat infected skin ulcers, boils, and carbuncles; and to speed up wound healing. Einstein's 1921 Nobel Prize was specifically for the photoelectric effect and generally for "services to theoretical physics". That latter can be read to include both special and general relativity, but they intentionally weasled it. Relativity was still controversial even by 1921, and there were some "German influences" against him. Politics was heavily at play there. Portland leftists are convinced that Proud Boys are sneaking into Portland and murdering people.
Really. There was a full-fledged moral panic a few summers ago when a reporter for one of the alt-weeklies claimed that Proud Boys were coming into Portland and assaulting gay people. There was not the slightest evidence of this, but a lot of people heard from a friend of a friend about Proud Boys beating gays. Posted by: The ARC of History! at October 05, 2021 11:27 PM (I2/tG) Is there anyone more capable of falling for false narratives than a Leftist? I saw some reply that mentioned the Proud Girl "bear-macing babies" and was curious if it was even remotely true. Now I'm pretty sure it's another ridiculous accusation that will be entered into Antifa Lore as authentic proof of their struggle. Well, if gay boyz didn't have the shit beaten out of them every so often, they'd have no room to take all that dick. Amirite?
The origin of the Portland moral panic was that a very drunk lesbian fell off a curb after a night of partying, and required medical attention. The cops showed up, and she decided that being assaulted by right-wingers sounded better than just being really, really drunk, and changed her story. An alt-weekly reporter gave huge prominence to this, and then proceeded to amplify every rumor about a gay person being assaulted by right-wingers for weeks. Gays were traveling in groups leaving bars to avoid being assaulted by the imaginary right-wingers. Entirely mythical. Posted by: The ARC of History! at October 05, 2021 11:36 PM (I2/tG) 430

I had broken and cracked ribs. Very painful, takes weeks to heal. And one must be very careful about how one moves. I fell asleep early Monday morning about 5 or 5:30. Woke up around 7. Felt the need to get out of bed. Not to pee, just get out of bed, and did so. So easily. I had fallen asleep praying for strength to do my job, as the Lord determines. I woke up with bones healed. Going deeper. Back in the '70s, when I accepted Christ and became a Christian (from a wholly un-churched background).. I surmised the following. TRADITION BOUND Catholics risked *not* being Christians, as they placed their faith in ritual, repetition, dogma and (small "S") saints, rather than in Jesus Christ, His Ressurection, Ascention and Glorification. I've since learned that FAITHFUL Catholics *are* Born Again Christians, and that all of the ceremonial trappings of Catholocism shroud them about like so much smoke from their censors. Point being though, that Spirit Filled Catholics might kinda confuse the post Lutherian Christians, but for realz.. they exist, and they are our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. EMBRACE! given time, you rig an abatis waiting to happen, using demo, claymores, WP and mines, as appropriate. march serial comes down the path, and the IED is initiated either manually, or by detonation of AT mines... small arms chime in, as do mortars, arty etc granted the trees aren't laced together in the official FM style, but i submit that them falling on, and in between the various vehicles, along with the casualties, loss of commo from sheared antennas, etc, would more than make up for that. Today, the PCUSA is ultra left. A lot of people got left out. They had a legit takeover, and that is not right. I left the church recently and it was one of the most difficult things I have had to do. It was so obvious a blind man could have seen it. A bunch of rich white folk acting as if they were the wokest ever. To b honest, they are liars. They claim to be woke, but dont' live it. Better than to be in those areas than not, for sure that is the case. Posted by: Quint at October 06, 2021 02:20 AM (Edo3/) 597

Flavors of Protestantism cornfuse me. As a lapsed Roman Catholic, I believe Il Papa is an agent of Satan, and a special place is being crafted for him in hell.
