Democrat Chair of January 6th Commission Will Subpoena Phone and Text Messages of Republican Congressmen

Prepare for a decade of blackmail and leaks about sexts and dick-pictures as the Democrats decide to use the nation's spy capabilities against the real enemy, all domestic opposition.

The Democratic chairman of the committee investigating the January 6th MAGA riot in the Capitol revealed on Monday he'll seek phone records from several hundred people, including Republican members of Congress, as part of the probe.

Rep. Bennie Thompson declined to identify which lawmakers would be sought but told reporters on Capitol Hill his committee is reaching out to tech and communications companies as well as social media platforms for hundreds of records from that day.

'We have quite an exhaustive list of people. I won't tell you who they are, but it's several hundred people that make up the list of people we are planning to contact,' he said when asked if the list included family members of former President Donald Trump.

He confirmed it also includes some Republican lawmakers.

While it's unclear which lawmakers are on Thompson's list, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Republican Rep. Jim Jordan both have said they spoke to then-President Trump that day.

A friend of mine commented that this is obviously "despotic," but said there was a silver lining: the sell-outs and weaklings in the GOP may finally understand the despotism the rest of us are being forced to live on, due to their constant surrender.

Of course, this assumes that they're not blackmailed into obedience.

This is similar to Michael Malice's idea that the brutish fascism the Ruling Class is imposing on us is actually a good thing, because people will finally stop obeying them.

I think an analogy he uses is that after a cop beats you up with a nightstick for merely protesting the state, you will not trust a cop again, and your illusions about the nature of force will be shattered.

Likewise, you can only be lied to about masking or Afghanistan so many times before you simply stop believing the government.

I don't know if that's helpful, though. Fascism is never imposed on all the people; even fascist regimes need to keep at least 40% of the public on their side. They demonize 40-60% of the populace so that their 40%-60% supporters will support imposing fascism on the Out Group. By being careful about how many people it brutally represses, the Ruling Class can keep itself in power for a long time.

But the good news is this: The Ruling Class is hysterically incompetent and will probably not be able to manage a Soviet-length run of totalitarianism.

I don't see these as mutually exclusive or necessary. They can see the despotism or not as a result of blackmail, but I suspect they all know it anyway. They've been engaging in it just as enthusiastically as the Left.

But assume they're naive and suddenly wake up to the problem when they're blackmailed into compliance. What difference does that make to me or you or any other citizen? Blackmailed into compliance or willingly compliant (and participatory) makes little effective difference in outcomes or behavior. Just because some are unwilling, it doesn't mean that the conditions change.

If Congress can "subpoena" and grill you under oath on any subject of it's choosing, without the constraints of probable cause and due process, there is simply no Constitutional protection against persecution by the government.

This may sound like a huge violation of the 4th Amendment, but he's not intending to violate it, just using his "God" (snicker) given power to get behind the worst attack on this nation since the British set fire to the White House in 1814.

And if they happen to find anything that's not even remotely related to 1/6, but incriminates Republicans for other things, well that's all good and proper, because the most important thing is keeping the administrative state running.

Cusp? We're there.

An honest system investigates crimes to find (and punish) the people who committed them. A corrupt system investigates people to find crimes for which the system can punish them.

The Trump era showed us very clearly that we are in the corrupt version. It is still high-effort for the time being (though nowhere near as high-effort as in prior decades), but getting easier all the time.

This is optimism completely at odds with recent experience. The same people who insist cops are racist and should be defunded also insist that the state should have a monopoly on arms and violence and should be unleashed on malefactors of their choosing instead of conventional criminals. There is no contradiction too great for an imbecile to reconcile. Nor are they going to be shamed into consistency by accusations of hypocrisy.

249 This will be instructional. We get to compare the and contrast the difference between when a Republican issues a Congressional subpoena and when a Democrat issues a Congressional subpoena.

Republicans send them out sometimes after years of strongly worded letters, then saunter over to Fox News and gripe about how there were ignored (usually years after having sent them).

Democrats will likely threaten any non-responses with a year in jail and the requesite $1,000 fine and follow through....because they aren't Republicans.

After analysis the videos were determined to be fake - the actors were wearing real British uniforms and equipment, but had mashed up which units wore what. The creators of the videos were never identified let alone punished.

Posted by: Revenant

--------
They didn't. What they fear are mass demonstrations. Look back in history, and the voice of last resort is always mass demonstrations. In the US we have the bonus army, as well as the farm protests where farmers send a bunch of tractors to DC. When people are really angry they go to DC and the media can not ignore it.

This takes power from the legislator since they can no longer deal and corrupt their decisions - they have to do what the people want.

This is what the yellow vest movement in France is all about. The gov. fears the protests, and the GOP goes along since they prefer to have power just like the Dems. So pelosi figured she was preserving *normalcy* with a preemptive strike against any future protests.

Of course, there is plenty of reason to protest and they are giving us more every day. But no one is talking about a demonstration in DC, are they?

Well, since the dumbed-down country is now being run by idiot children, maybe they actually will be, before they're over.

And they won't be over for a while. Quite a few people scattered around the country we might want to extract, doesn't have to be now.

Kamala Harris tells us to buy Christmas presents now,...

Kamala Harris discussed Christmas shopping and climate change but failed to mention the current crisis in Afghanistan during her major foreign policy speech on Monday.

Harris, addressing a roundtable of business leaders before her speech, warned that climate change and the pandemic have contributed to supply chain issues, The New York Times reported, and suggested parents should consider getting Christmas presents now.

'The stories that we are now hearing about the caution that if you want to have Christmas toys for your children, it might now be might be the time to start buying them, because the delay may be many, many months,' she said.

Water's tricky. It doesn't "last forever" without some pretty serious preparation. Natural bottled water for example will go green and murky if it's put in sunlight. Nearly chemically pure water should be aerated after five years or so. If you have distilled water, you may need to add some salts or you're actually doing yourself some harm.

I don't get the correlation. Look, I have my issues with Trump. He was wrong about easily hiring good people to run the government. But I have been around long enough to know he was right about the Left. They will go after any Republican candidate twice as hard as they went after Trump. No matter who the other guy is, he will be worse that Trump.

And unlike Bush SR, Dole, McCain, and Romney, all good moderates, Trump won.

412 Joe Biden wiped out the United States' international leadership position it has held since WWII in a few weeks. I find myself at a loss to grasp the magnitude of this capitulation. Overnight he went begging to the Taliban for more time to evacuate people instead of acting to secure their safety and was told to go to hell. Now this bastard is already recalling American troops and abandoning civilians to the wolves.

Soon this bastard will hold a press conference where he will declare he saved every one that wanted to come to the US (and, cough, cough, sure is a lot of folks that called in and declared the wanted to stay) and brought the Taliban to their knees. All according to plan.

This is correct. Many people didn't vote for Trump because they couldn't believe that he meant what he said. He got a huge vote increase from the 2016 result because they saw that he did. In the face of unremitting, unrelenting pressure from the commanding heights of our society, he did. He did when there was absolutely no personal financial upside for him to even enter the political arena; in fact, he lost billions of dollars.

There is no living politician in the world who could withstand what Trump did over the last five years to serve his country. That is why his supporters will walk over hot coals to vote for him, were he to run in 2024. DeSantis has a great future, and he's an extremely talented politician, but he hasn't sacrificed anything yet.

476 388 > I would buy bottled water. It is cheap, lasts forever, easy to move around,.....

Posted by: bonhomme

These are good points. Bottled water does last a very long time if kept in the dark. You can also add a small amount of bleach to tap water to store in the same way, and it lasts,.. well years but since it is tap water you can replace every year at low cost and effort.

To preserve water, I think LA city has a guide online for earthquake preparedness which I used in the past. Now I just buy bottled water and keep in dark cupbard.

That's exactly why Psaki keeps repeating that line ad nauseum. Biden's people KNOW they're going to leave people behind. They're laying the groundwork to claim, "We did our best, but some people didn't listen to our warnings. We told them they needed to get out. We gave them opportunities to get out. We are sickened and saddened at how the Taliban treated them. Gosh darn it, we warned them. We take full responsibility for not warning them emphatically enough to get them to understand they couldn't just stay in Afghanistan."

Congratulations? Who else wants it? If the public will existed, we could kill every living thing in that rock heap. But it doesn't, so we'll go do something equally unproductive somewhere else. 554 Its obvious that Tim Cook is completely incompetent and running Apple into a hole in the ground, but I'm not sure anyone but Jobs could make that business model work. It was based entirely on image and seeming cool while offering minimal customer satisfaction and increasingly outdated tech presented as cutting edge.

Only by making it cool could this stay in business. Once you lose the cool perception, its just really expensive tech that other companies do better, cheaper.

555 544 I don't trust any of this. It all seems like a setup.

You're left to believe Biden's team completely and utterly fucked the chicken on camera and even his sycophants are turning on him.

On the other hand, that would mean they likely get their clocks cleaned in the upcoming elections.

I can't help but feel like this is a trap. The media has carried more water than God in Egypt to protect these idiots. Now it's blowing up?

Chris Cilizza thinks that this is a GOP disaster of epic proportions, and he's spoken with the GOPes behind-the-scenes who'll tell him the same thing, off-the-record.

The one thing Cilizza doesn't take into account is that Walker would be running against...Raphael Warnock, who has no name recognition outside of MLK's old church, and hasn't made a big effort to increase that recognition since landing in the Senate.

I think that Walker has some big issues that he needs to address before he makes his run, but if he can do that, he's in as easily as Tuberville was.

566 The hack is significant, not least because Citizen Lab researchers said it found evidence that the zero-click attack successfully exploited the latest iPhone software at the time, both iOS 14.4 and later iOS 14.6, which Apple released in May. But the hacks also circumvent a new software security feature built into all versions of iOS 14, dubbed BlastDoor, which is supposed to prevent these kinds of device hacks by filtering malicious data sent over iMessage.

Because of its ability to circumvent BlastDoor, the researchers called this latest exploit ForcedEntry.

581 Christian heaven is a lot more abstract - union with God, peace, etc.
___

It's not abstract.
We are made in God's image, with a body and an eternal soul. We were not created to just spend eternity as a bodiless spirit.

Jesus is God who was made flesh, to atone for our sins.
He rose from the dead in a new glorified body, but with His scars to prove who He is.

We, who are in Christ, will also have bodies to enjoy a New Heaven and a New Earth, both physically as well as spiritually.
The first-century Christians knew this.
