We 've had one or two other examples by Eugene de Blaas on the thread and they have all been very good. I like the color scheme he uses to catch the proper look of worn exteriors and the look of the clothing. The skin tones may be idealized but they are pleasant to look at. The postures of the models are so indicative of the scene whether it is a very feminine stance of working or socializing or the males and their hopes for something more from the women. Very effective. And the faces are all distinctive. It is a winning and attractive combination making good art.

It's easy to rune a cable from an exterior box to the transfer switch next to the breaker box. I did that. But a manual transfer switch may not be the way to go. I think an interlock is probably better.
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at August 20, 2021 08:55 AM (Q9lwr) Yes and yes. It can be easy to run 10 gauge cable from your generator location to the breaker box location. Or it can be difficult. An interlock is usually at the mains so your whole house gets switched over to generator so you need make sure the generator has enough juice - the 13k genset I linked is probably fine, but a 3500 watt will not. So you would be turning off breakers at the box anyway. Posted by: blaster (mbFEM) at August 20, 2021 09:02 AM (mbFEM) 216

We lost power for about 9 hours last night. I have an 8000 watt generator that I back feed into the secondary breaker panel. That keeps the fridge alive. But when I try to feed to the main panel (With the mains open) the generator trips off, even with every breaker on the panel open. I had to run an extension cord from the freezer to the generator. But that left no lights, no water pump. So I need a better solution. That is why I was thinking one generator to run the fridge/ freezer, heat, water pump. Another to run lights and water heater that I can shut down overnight to save fuel if there is a prolonged outage.

Posted by: blaster (mbFEM) at August 20, 2021 09:02 AM (mbFEM) Yup. But with an interlock you can power any circuits in the house, up to the capacity of your generator. With a manual transfer switch you have to choose which circuits are available when you install it. That's less convenient. For instance, maybe I want to power the downstairs lights and outlets during the day, and the upstairs at night? I can't do that with my current set-up, but if I switch to an interlock I can. Why does milk come in gallons and soda in liters?
Posted by: Guy Smiley at August 20, 2021 09:02 AM (Bmy3R) ++++ Automotive history. Back in the old days - before the mid-80s - car engines were measured in cubic inches of displacement (e.g., the "454" motor). At that time, soft drinks were measured in the same way. When the industry pivoted to "liters" displacement calculation (e.g., the 5.7 liter Hemi), the soft drink industry followed suit. The reason for this is the need for comparative measure amongst high school boys. They need a point of reference for boasting about their own or making fun of their friends' cars. For example, a high school boy who is poking fun at a friend's tiny little Honda might hold up a 2 liter bottle and say "my Mountain Dew here is two liters. Your shitbox car is just 1.7 liters." In answer to CAT and CBD. CAT - "backfeeding" a secondary panel may not be up to code - you need some sort of switch to make sure you aren't powering the mains from your generator.
Pace CBD, this is where the interlock/transfer switch come in. A full-blown WHG setup will have an automatic transfer switch (ATM) and depending on that may be an interlock or individual circuits. I currently have a 3500w genset and I have 4 circuits on the transfer switch - my fridges/freezer and the internet. Plus various lights etc that are on those same circuits. If I had a 7500w genset I could put my AC/furnace on there too. I got my transfer switch for $50 off of FB marketplace and the gnerator purchased for $350 years ago, and I have a 50 foot generator cord that cost $100 so I am at rockbottom cost for a lot of coverage. For a man who promised a restoration of American unity after years of intense political conflict, Biden has achieved this goal: Everyone now thinks he failed. No matter your feelings about Afghanistan -- whether you thought we should get out now, or 10 years ago, or never -- Americans all agree this exit is a debacle, an embarrassment of logistical planning that has left our fellow citizens and our allies in the lurch.

Hard to project analogies across cultures, but I am curious about the supposed revenge teams of the Taliban seeking out and destroying "collaborators". This had to be an assumed outcome and yet no one fought? Was Solzhenitsyn right, that people are more likely to lament dying than doing something about it?

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at August 20, 2021 09:32 AM (Q9lwr) Either approach works, the interlock is less cost, functionally about the same. You need to run some circuits off to run on generator, and when you switch back to street power you need to turn those circuits back on. With the transfer switch, when street power comes back, those circuits are energized. But you still need to manually switch the circuits on the transfer switch so you are still flipping things at the breaker box anyway. The military managed to evac successfully on schedule. It just so happened that this was before the civilian evac occurred because there's no coordination or overarching plan. If you make it granular enough a lot of people did "their part", "correctly". These parts don't form a coherent whole though.

Someone else's job is how all big organizations work. No organization can run with middle-management constantly contesting with upper management, questioning their plans, and invading each other's turfs to make sure assignments are done "correctly". This is exactly what lack of direction and planning at the top levels looks like.

If it is old and near the end of effective life, it probably isn't worth the monumental effort and expense to extract it and bring it home, only to surplus it and divest at pennies on the dollar. But abandoning it when it is working equipment that the enemy can use is an unacceptable failure. It should have all been scuttled on the way out the door. You once slipped and referred to "my muslim faith" in an interview, only to have boot-licking sycophant little Georgie Stephanopolous rush in to cover for you and remind you that you pretend to be Christian, to fool the deplorable, Bible-clinging types. Then you waxed poetical during an interview with the slobbering, fawning NYT, where you reminisced about your years in muslim Indonesia and your schooling in a madrassa there, and you piously proclaimed the muslim call to prayer as the most beautiful sound on earth. Then you made your muslim loyalties undeniably clear in a speech in which you said that in a clash of civilizations between the west and muslims, that you would proudly "stand with the muslims." Many Americans simply ignored your anti-American, pro-muslim sentiments, Barack Hussein. But some of us remember. And we will not forget. It's just that I was reading a bunch of articles, "gallons are a mess! The water weighs differently depending on the temperature!" Uh, yeah, shithead, just like metric water does. Anyways, if you've got the right amount of alcohol in there, a fluid oz can weigh an ounce, making the math simple, which may tell us something about our English forbears. ________________ We should pass a law making it illegal, and a capital offense, for any government employee or elected official to ever say the words "I accept full responsibility" unless they commit suicide immediately thereafter. The words themselves have no meaning unless they are followed by decisive action. So either they off themselves, or we do it for them. Case closed.
