Kabul Is Falling As The Taliban Drive The Afghan Government Out Of The Country

flaming_skull2a.gif

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani leaves the country

As Taliban enters Kabul, for many in the capital the worst is happening

The Latest: Official says Taliban to declare Islamic Emirate

This costly foreign policy debacle can and should be laid squarely at the feet of the Biden administration. They have obfuscated and dawdled and flapped their botoxed lips, but have done nothing substantive to ensure an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Obama 'said Biden has an "ability to f**k things up"' amid 'bitter tensions' after ex-president's 'weak' endorsement

Second on the list for responsibility is our pathetic political generals, who are more interested in having Twitter slap fights than doing their jobs. In a just America, they would be court-martialed...starting with General (spit) Milley.

The US *did* delay the withdrawal. Trump's admin signed an agreement with the Taliban in early 2020, and US troops were supposed to be out by May. But in another piece of Biden Brilliance, the new so-called President decided he had to mark his territory so he peed on that agreement and postponed the withdrawal to September. Why shouldn't the Taliban toss aside any agreement - obviously the US won't keep their word no matter what, so I'm not surprised they're not interested in helping Biden save face.

I suspect that Trump would have demanded a more orderly evacuation earlier, and that any Taliban advance would have been met with American airpower to slow it down and destroy troop concentrations.

Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile at August 15, 2021 12:34 PM (jOcSX)

140 CO Alex is correct, plus, one of the things that greased all of this - bribes and threats - were a reason such a substantial military establishment dissolved, without a lot of actual fighting.

There may be some military gear still there that was slated to come out, but a lot of what you're seeing was never going to be extracted.

Yesterday a long convoy of Humvees and other vehicles of the instantly retiring Afghan forces crossed into Iran. A similar procession was (I think) finally let into Uzbekistan.

As is obvious, the Taliban's power does not rely on advanced military capability, and much of the equipment will be inoperable in fairly short order.

The Afghan Army has been hit or miss. There were some good, highly competent units that our forces worked with. And there were some utter shit units full of lazy, corrupt, imbiciles. I think that the hope was that the competent units, combined with local leaders, would be enough to slow down the Taliban. Perhaps even with a small measure of American support (SOF and airpower) that might have been the case.

Once it became clear that we were going to be gone completely, everything fell apart.

It should have been taken care of by President Reagan. Islam had been kept in check until then. But by then, everyone had forgotten what Islam always was, and every bombing and hijacking was an "isolated event", unconnected to Islam. Of all administrations, Reagan's should have been historically literate enough to know what the Muslim Brotherhood had been since the 19-teens. But no, Beirut bombing was by a little tiny unaffiliated group with zero connection to Islam, and every little group was different. They had different names, so of course they were all different! Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, PLO, Ottoman, and on and on and on.

It's very analogous to all of Soros' hundreds of organizations all pretending they don't serve the same exact purpose. It's always been a phony fraudulent pretense at fragmentation. Same with the dozens of Deep State agencies, when they are all appendages of the same body, sharing the same mind.

Reagan should have known. Kissinger should have known.

And interesting, prisons are being opened up (at least to political prisoners/members of militias), including Paki Taliban. But ISIS prisoners may not be getting out, and Taliban may have dark plans for them.

Even with a program, keeping up with the players is not easy. Many banners and names and ins and outs and so forth (The Dude, Big Lebowski), but overall, .... same as it ever was.

Where soldiers returning home to Tennessee after WW2 fought thier corrupt local government. I've been waiting to see when the new version starts up, as soldiers see thier commanders become pussy sjw, who basically state that most of the military area just racist rednecks. Then we've seen the lockdowns and the attempt at creating two classes of citizen over the vaccination. Now these soldiers see everything they did for the last 20 years just tossed in the shitter, where the politicians clearly don't care (Biden has been hidden away for days now), worse some want to now hastily send them back as if that's not a death sentence. At what point do these soldiers have that collective "aha" moment and realize that they are the only ones who can possibly stop this.

Like most ignorant, they forget that to conserve is a transitive verb. It depends what you are conserving.

In America, this mainly means a Constitutional republic. In Afghanistan, the 7th century.

See, Marx knew that there were many structures across the globe to rebel from, at that a free economy is arguably the most benign. So all "status quo" became "the same thing" to promote the Revolution (after which one becomes the subject of the head revolutionary, who cracks your heads like eggs in an omelet.)

He blamed Trump for not "shutting down the virus" months before he stopped calling Trump a liar about a vaccine within the year.

Don't allow people to tell you that when Biden blustered about "shutting the virus down" it was conditional on a vaccine he didn't think was possible in a short time frame.

Biden has always been full of horseshit, just relieving the build up from time to time.

Biden is a giant piece of shit but he is a puppet. I doubt he's stupid, other than he has *made* himself practiced in stupid.

They do not use words to accurately describe anything. They use words for the emotional cachet they have.

Thus he can make up this brain fart about Trump being pro-Taliban or something. And because that satisfies his urge to see Trump and conservatives in a bad light it satisfies his reason for using words.

If I'm wrong in any of this, because I care about proper representation of reality with words, I will recant it.

Because I'm not ideologically-addled. They are so practiced at "How to Smear" that it actually is the end-goal of their engagement.

Know what I think? The military just wants to have little wars against third-world opponents where we get to flex our military might for as long as it takes to seemingly "win"--usually days or weeks--and then let the contractors profit for a decade or two while we "nation build" and win "hearts and minds. "

I think a REAL war with a REAL adversary would scare the SHIT out of them
And that scares the shit out of ME.

His anguish is real. As he says, if the intel was given to the decision-makers and they failed to act on it, shame on them. If the intel was not developed, then shame on us. I told him, if I could figure it out sitting in my den/intel center, then they guys in the Embassy and pentagon could too.
The biggest indicator of a failure of command was the annoucement for sending 3,000 troops to assist in the withdrawal. The was the starters gun and it was a race to Kabul. The US vs the Tallies.

Here's another example of a US flag officer who was living in a fantasy world: Admiral James Stavridis (Ret.) told an MSNBC drone that he is very surprised at how rapidly the Afghan Army collapsed. We'll see. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me. One of the beliefs prior to 9/11 is that the US wouldn't commit to a long-fight. We've proven that to be untrue, which changes a lot of calculations. The Taliban has a lot of incentive to keep the other radical groups in check and moderate their actions, simply because letting things spiral out of control is a good way to end up spending another decade or two hiding over in Pakistan. We drove them out once before with SF and airpower. We can do it again.
