"Scientific" Journal Suggests That It Should Be a Federal Hate Crime to Criticize Anthony Fauci

A scientific journal article authored by Professor Peter Hotez, a frequent guest on corporate media networks, called to "extend federal hate-crime protections" for scientists facing criticism from alleged "far-right extremists," including National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci.
Dr. Hotez, who himself has been funded by Anthony Fauci's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1993, offered the robust defense of scientists including Fauci and EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak in a recent paper: "Mounting Antiscience Aggression In The United States."
"There is a troubling new expansion of antiscience aggression in the United States. It's arising from far-right extremism," the paper, published in the peer-reviewed Public Library of Science (PLOS) Biology journal, begins.

Is PLOS reputable? Question for the scientists out there. I thought I've read crticism that the peer reviewing at the place is a bit... Easy Mode.

But let me know.

Either way, this asshole does work for the Gain-of-Function Deep State, funded by Fauci's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

"A band of ultraconservative members of the US Congress and other public officials with far-right leanings are waging organized and seemingly well-coordinated attacks against prominent US biological scientists. In response, Hotez calls for a public statement in defense of Fauci and other COVID-19 scientists from "President of the United States together with science leaders at the federal agencies"” and even floats that "another possibility is to extend federal hate-crime protections."

His paper rails against the alleged "authoritarianism" of the right while simultaneously demanding that those who criticize Fauci be imprisoned.

Who the heck wrote this, AllahPundit?

Or the Chinese Ministry of Information?

Read the whole thing. He seems to want to prosecute Marjorie Taylor Greene for the hate crime of introducing the "Fire Fauci" Act. He pushes the idea that the lab leak theory is a conspiracy theory and that it's "sinister" to ask questions about it, even in a Congressional hearing.

Also, its hilarious how insane this is. The basis of the scientific method is to attempt to falsify. Criticism is the very root the scientific approach. Anyone who says he's above criticism or that his theories aren't subject to falsification or who doesn't share his data or who says the science is settled (another laughable position on its own) may be many things, but he isn't a scientist.

I'm not a scientist. Never even stayed at a Holiday Inn. However, on an episode of the otherwise useless show Adam Ruins Everything, the host pointed out that there are a number of spurious "scientific" magazines which will print anything if you pay for it. The show proved it by placing their own nonsense article in a "peer-reviewed" journal.

But it remains a good reminder that the left has no argument other than "shut the fuck up or I KEEEEEEL YOU!!!!"

I, too, have worked every damned day since the lockdown began. Initially, the only people in my 8-story building were me, the day porter, and the building engineer. Traffic was non-existent. I am a bit puzzled as to why it exists as a profession in the general sense. I am not a doctor or an epidemiologist, but as near as I can tell, it is essentially applied statistics. The best applied statisticians in the world are insurance actuaries, and I suspect that they could - and would - do a far better job when they're needed.

Open access journals (like the PLOS journals, arXiv, and Elsevier's open-access journals) are more open (in that anyone can publish there, not just a member). They are listed as peer-reviewed (though take it with a salt lick). Most importantly, most open access journals are pay-to-print; that is, you can get your article printed if you're willing to pony up a few hundred to a few thousand dollars (depending on the level of prestige of both the platform and the journal, as well as the page count.

A closed-access journal (say, those of APA or IEEE) is harder to get an article into, with a much longer turnaround on an article (months to years). And the peer review is real and scourging. I've published in both spaces, and while the open access journals are nice...they're not the closed-access journals, no matter how much they'll tell you otherwise.

I personally think this is at least unprofessional, but left-wing nonsense is a religion to a lot of academic profs

Annals of Internal Medicine has a factor of about 25. This is the old "no bucks no Buck Rogers" effect. NIH gets about 20 bucks for every one that goes to NSF, the last time I looked.

Looking at the titles of papers published in PLOS, they seem to obsess about peer review issues more than actual science. One tip-off to me that this is a second or third tier journal is this statement from the journal:

"Portable peer review: We consider manuscripts on the basis of reviews received at other journals, working with Academic Editors to arbitrate these reports directly to avoid or minimize further peer-review."

This means that they are trolling for papers that strike out at more prestigious journals. They also brag about making editorial decisions quickly.

So, my overall impression of the journal is ... meh.

I've heard some other morons mention it having surprising effects on stuff. Lyme disease was another one.

IIRC Africa (Africa!) banned it when the COVID panic hit. People were smuggling it in and there were drug busts same as meth and cocaine, except for Ivermectin.

327 That is what Sweden did. They protected those at risk but everyone else got on with their lives. No mandated masks or vaccines, no lockdowns. They have very few cases now, because they have true herd immunity.
