Meet The PetMorons

Meet Sapphire. She was rescued by one of my granddaughters, but she is soon moving to New Hampshire and can't have a cat in the home. So Sapphire is ours!

Sent by long-time lurker/infrequent poster: TXMarko.

Well isn't she an adorable little kitteh! It really sounds like you are heart broken to adopt this little girl. Thanks for being a long time lurker and now a PetMoron caretaker.

Holly and Missy are my 11 year old tabby sisters. After the death of my wife two years ago, these two companions have helped me immensely in managing my grief and maintaining my sanity. They are both very smart and have me thoroughly trained. -halfastro

We are sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Something tells me these sisters had you trained before her passing. You just didn't know it then. Thanks for sharing them with us.

This is Shadow, some years back the skinniest kitten I had ever seen showed up at our barn. Of all things he was wearing a flea collar two sizes too big. He has grown up to be an inside/outside cat. Outside in the summer and inside during the winter. He’s one heck of a mouser, constantly bringing his catch up to the back door and eating it so we can see his worth.

One of his attributes seems to be that he likes pansies, we like them as well but will let him have his bed, he has earned it.

I post sometimes as Sergeant Major.

Let's face it SM you would lose the battle of the pansies with Shadow. He would defiantly tell you he's sleeping there. Sounds like he has best of both worlds at your home. Thanks for your contribution today.

Marley (1).png

Our newest senior pup is named Marley a male chow lab mix. He's 10 years old and no obvious health issues. He's very friendly and loves loves ear scritches and belly rubs. Such a sweet boy and he will integrate well with the others since he seems to have a great disposition. I hope integration comes soon because he is NOT a fan of the kennel!
As always thank you for featuring our senior pups. If nothing else it brings awareness to people who never considered adopting a senior dog. - Jewells

You're welcome Jewells. Always happy to help bring awareness to the plight of older K9s. Thanks again for all you do there.

Shadow reminds me of the mourning dove that used to come and hang out in my window box right after I planted the pansies. She would just plop down in her bed of flowers, so cute

17 After the death of my wife two years ago, these two companions have helped me immensely in managing my grief and maintaining my sanity.

I remember when I came home after my mom passed away at the hospital. My little black cat greeted me as I walked into the living room. Her head was cocked to the side and her eyes were so full of compassion, as if she knew.

They are great friends, these little mammal creatures.

38 Early this morning there was a doe and her two fauns in the bottoms behind the house. The fauns might have been twins as they were both the same size. We're rural, but mostly farmland and cattle grazing pastures, not much in the way of trees so it's a bit unusual to see deer out in the open.

43 Q for the cat pros. Tux will not use his litterbox. I put a bit of litter on a sturdy shipping bag and he goes there, I think he probably doesn't like stepping in the litter but I haven't gotten around to putting dirt in the litter pan to see if that would make it acceptable. I'm just dealing with having to dump the shipping bag into the litter box to be able to scoop. When I got him they said he has arthritis and can't do stairs. Our stairs don't slow him down any, I am thinking maybe they thought arthritis was why he was reluctant to use the litter box? Anyway I'll read suggestions. He has a bad front paw and has always been inside, so 'make him an outdoor cat' isn't likely and I'm not going to SSS and get a new cat.

One of my cats had it years ago. I would strongly recommend that you do the radioactive iodine treatment. Although it costs more upfront, it's a full cure and you will not have to buy those meds for the rest of the cat's life. My cat lived at least another ten years after receiving the treatment.

49 > Early winter?

My wife and I were just talking about this today. There are signs about that would suggest it. Black Walnuts are already out on the trees and pretty big this year. The Poplars are shedding leaves a good 3 weeks early. Even saw some geese heading south a couple days ago.

Signs for sure. Of what...? Who knows.

50 I will say I did have maybe the worst dog ever, that we adopted. She was just fucking mean. All the time. Then she tried to kill Joe Mannix for a Thanksgiving turkey. My mom dissuaded her with a barstool, and she's a tiny lady, and this dog was yuuuuge and luxurious, so it was pretty bad. My dad declined to shoot Angel, instead returning this evil dog to his evil sister. But she was a bad, bad dog.

We are going on 8 years with our feral cat! Waits for me every morning on the deck, hides when I come out with his food, comes out when he hears the screen door click shut.

I resisted the iodine treatment option for a while and gave my cat the meds, but it broke my heart every time I had to give her a pill. She was such a sweet cat and I could tell that she hated taking the pills. She would try her best not to scratch me. So I went ahead and scheduled the treatment. Since I knew that the pills could sustain her until I was ready, I just scheduled the iodine treatment to coincide with a week that I was going to go on vacation. That made it more bearable for me.

72 Report on the Flippety Fish project:

We charged up the Flippety Fish one night this week and brought it out for the monsters. (Warning: It makes a noise unlike real flopping fish.) They studied it carefully, though neither tapped it the way it needs to keep flopping. I had to do that. Presently the older cat, Chekov D. Siberian, seized it in his front paws and began to hug it and *nuzzle it*, rubbing his face on the fabric-like surface -- and licking it!

The younger cat, the big fierce-looking mini-black panther? He wouldn't touch it and simply eyed it with distrust. I tossed it to him and he jumped out of the way, several times.

Preliminary report: 50% feline approval. We have yet to test it with catnip inside. (Both are furry potheads, so this may go better.)

I used to have such a rule. The big red tabby, Arizona, simply waited until I was not home, and clambered up to stretch out on any counter he wanted. Linda caught him more than once.

Marie-Antoinette the smart black cat was less devious. Perhaps sensing that I was not that vigilant or diligent in the enforcement of the rule, she just defied me and strolled up to the counters whenever she wanted. I gave up after that. You can spritz the cat with water, I guess, and scare him off, if you start early in his life. Now I figure it's easier if I just spray down the counters periodically.

84 Lucy likes being squirted with water.
She doesn't get on the counters when I'm home.

But I do work.

85 Sounds like Lucy has some 'splainin' to do.

Nurse, you might as well invest in paper towels and spray disinfectant, then, and include the counters periodically in your cleaning regimen.

Counters? Hell, I have a hard time keeping the furry thugs off the dining table when Linda and I are eating. They don't go after our food (of course, we don't leave it unattended), but I still wonder if stray hairs are winding up in our pasta. Never seen any, though. And I guess there are worse things to ingest.

90 I've never seen Fanny jump up there. I'm sure she has but there wasn't anything to interest her. The car that died last year like to sneak up on the stove and lick the grease out of the frying pan.

That Okno is pretty good litter. I started using it when I had multiple cats. It does clump some and is lightweight.

91 Another swell Pet Thread! Thanks, Mis Hum, for bringing a ray of sunshine in to my Saturday.

Those Pet Morons are just too adorable!

93 Love the cats! And Marley of course.

I remember my dad putting medicine on his cat's ear every day for hyperthyroidism. It was so easy. HAve they decided pills work better?

94 When I lived in California our adopted cat, Mr. B would get on the counters only when I came back from the wharf with fresh crab. He was relentless with crab. I can sympathize with that.

95 This will probably get me flamed, but why do people allow cats on their counters?
Posted by: Infidel at August 07, 2021 03:51 PM (VDqwV)

Well, we never have allowed it, and our cats were smart enough to fear the water spritzer; but they also knew that a hoomin had to be present to wield said spritzer.

So, well. there you go.

97 Nothing like the Pet thread to take one's mind off of the dismal state of affairs in this country.
