Insurrectionist Cafe:

eeriestreetscene11hr11min.jpg
found at @11hr11min

This dog has picked up a lot of cat-like behaviors.

Sick go-kart wipeout.

Running of a bull goes wrong, or right.

Matador? More like splattador amirite

Trapped like a cockroach in a roach motel.

Blindside takedown.

I've linked this, but it's great: Guy politely informs a Male Mask Karen that his input is not required.

This little kitten knows that there is some relationship between a straw and getting a sweet taste in your mouth, but he can't figure out the specifics of how it works.

"Diversity," Democrat-style.

The Democrats have a lot of forced diversity at the lower levels, but at the top, it's all old crusty white lesbians. At some point the minorities kept at low-to-middle-management positions are going to notice.

Another guy with too much confidence in his jumping skills. Also: another guy who loses confidence in his jumping skills at the wrong time, and hesitates/stutter-steps, and then pays for not committing to the jump.

Teaching children hate:

Man vs. Ostrich.

Not even close.

36 From Variety, of all places:

Matt Damon explains why he plays a Trump supporter in 'Stillwater'

One of the biggest laughs at the movie's Thursday night premiere came when Damon's character is asked by a French woman if he voted for Donald Trump. He did not, he responds, but only because a prior felony kept him from voting at all.

On Friday, Damon said [his lead character] Baker absolutely would've supported Trump.

"These guys don't apologize for who they are," Damon said, referring affectionately to his character as a "roughneck." The actor and his director McCarthy road tripped through Oklahoma prior to shooting where they were invited into the break rooms and backyard barbecues of the real men who inspired the character.

"They're in the oil business, of course he voted for Trump," Damon said. "These people were wonderful to us, they really helped us. It was eye-opening for me."

I didn't know he was his Godfather. I do recall that Damon pushed to have that horrid book mentioned during the movie. People thought it must be important if a genius recommended it. But of course it is more simple, the actor pretending to be a genius required the book to be mentioned. It was their movie so I understand.

Whenever I hear the name Howard Zinn, which is rarely, I think of the movie Howard's End.

76 For those in NorCal, it looks like they found the guy that's been shooting at cars near Sacramento. Of course, they don't say if he's illegal or not - but they found him sleeping in his vehicle. Tesla caught all the action when he blew out the guy's window: https://youtu.be/ndzy4UuTTww

Just as mind blowing are comments supporting CA's legal system and letting this guy out on bail. If you ask me, this was bordering on attempted murder. Ok, maybe directly hitting you might not kill you, but it's certainly possible the average Tesla driver would lose control of the vehicle after having glass blown all over the car's interior. In San Jose grafitti is out of control, so SJ snaps into action by fining private property owners for not removing it fast enough. https://youtu.be/yfA65qmSMek

And in LA, creep tries breaking and entering, caught on doorbellcam. Police say they can't do shit. And they probably can't, because of the Soros DA George Gascon. So of course, the crazy guy wanders down the road to an apartment complex, takes off his clothes, and gets in bed with 12 year old twins. NOW they arrest him. https://youtu.be/88f9x7bxndk - I'm so culturally enriched I could almost shit.

272 Problem I have with Blunt? Blount? Is that she was white hot in Edge of Tomorrow, but does nothing for me any other time I see her.

Maybe it was the attitude? Setting? Not made up (at least movie made up) she was dead sexy.

Plus, there is the thing that she was tan and taunt and wiry whereas the modern thing seems to go for pale as a fucking sheet and pasty (I mean almost a kind of doughy look.) It is strange.

I don't get into gossip, but Blunt got in trouble when she publicly stated she made a mistake by becoming an American. Her banal reason was she watched a Republican debate.

The Matrix was a sleeper. Any movie that starts at number 4, and creeps up to #1 over a few months, and stays in the top five for a few more, is going to make a ton of money.

I saw the movie on a Tuesday afternoon and there was 2 other people there, a guy and his wife. I knew the movie was either going be amazing or crap, based on how bold the trailer was. (EG Fury Road was the same way.) As we walked out, the wife whispered "That was NOT a good movie." I was far ahead by 60 feet in those long hallways, enough to plausibly not hear. I waited about 10 seconds and looked back, said to the guy "OH THAT MOVIE WAS AMAZING, WASN'T IT?" Telling strange women that their taste is crap, for the benefit of their DH is satisfying.

The Mission Impossible movies are hit and miss for me. The hot redhead in the slinky green dress is a definite hit.

Edge of Tomorrow is a good movie. They start out with Cruise as a complete piece of shit, but actually do the full Groundhog Day and make him a good, likeable character. It is like a reverse of Tom Cruise from the couch fiasco and screaming at his crew and going back in time to when he was in Top Gun. It is like the deconstructed Tom Cruise and made him what he seemed to be back in the day.

Posted by: Aetius451AD at July 09, 2021 08:24 PM (csEWM)

491 473 Bete, yes and that often makes them far superior as actors. The Royal Academies have turned out a stockpile of fine actors. Plus the country being relatively small also lets them do tv, movies, and theater. That was also an advantage for the UK bands in that they could do short tours cheaply and easily if centered in London. In the US, the distances make touring more a logistical nightmare and more expensive/wearying.

Interestingly enough, Robert Heinlein's biographer discusses RAH being friends with the earlier L. Ron and even Jack Parsons--the savant genius who apparently was a Satanist. Think I remember that L. Ron and RAH were actually roommates for a brief time in LA.

Hubbard was a SF writer in the 40s and 50s and thus would have been in his crowd dealing with the magazines and such.

Hubbard even had a special typewriter with small words in it to churn out stores faster.

Word is at a convention one year he told the people there that the secret to success is to find out what people want to hear and make them pay for it. Soon after that he put out "Dianetics" as a pseudo-science that was trendy at the time.

I hated the whole thing so much I couldn't even speak afterwards. If I had been in the theater I would have walked out.

Part of it I will admit was that it had been hyped to death so I think I was expecting something I could sink my teeth into, but after the first ten minutes it just repulsed me in every way imaginable.

I also found it oddly exploitative and that's not a complaint I've probably ever had about any movie.

698 @688 I should have walked out of Wild Wild West.

---------

I rented that from the local Blockbuster, started it, and then stopped it partway through because it was so awful. Then a day or two later I started it back up again just because I'd paid for it, so I might as well finish it. And I was hoping that the giant metal spider might help salvage some value out of the movie.

Spoiler Warning: It doesn't.

I'll see if I can find a set of search terms to find the scene easily. My best guess off the cuff 'Carla Gugino sin city nude'.

Soldier is an incredible performance. He does it all without talking. (One of the few SF to crib from one of the greats like Harry Harrison)

It's where I gained a lot of respect from the guy who kind of chewed scenery in Escape from NY and Big Trouble. (But, I settled for the idea that he was supposed to be LtL).

And Almost Human was a great TV show. Sadly, it suffered the usual fate of science fiction shows on Fox.

Too quick to abandon Megacity and the Lawmaster!

But it was closer to Dredd than Stallone's bit. I'm just hoping that when it all comes out if there ever is a series of movies it's just one movie that settled into a siege movie.

Otherwise, I want to see him on the Lawmaster.
