Forgot to send you this. This cockatoo is owned by the nephew with the macaws. It's a Moluccan cockatoo. He got it to go with the one we gave him (which died last year). I post as notsothoreau

What a lovely bird notsothoreau. What kind of snacks is he eating? Hope you are around today to tell us about it's diet. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi MH. Love the pet thread.

This is Bella. We found her via Craigslist after losing our adventurous cat Lily to coyotes. She came to us sick and about the size of a tennis ball - she has since assumed control over our 95lb pit bull Coco and gets just about anything she wants from the wife and I. She enjoys eating dog treats, June bugs, licking gravy, chewing yoga blocks and salmon sticks. She believes treats taste best at 2:15 in the morning. She’s a champion ball chaser and is currently training for the Tokyo Olympics - I don’t have the heart to tell her that while it’s true that a man can be a woman, or a woman can be a man, or that they can be both or neither, a cat cannot be an Olympian, not even if Biden can’t tell the difference.

Thanks! - Shane

When I first opened the photo I giggled. That photo is cute. Sounds like she is one lucky kitteh to be adopted by you folks and Coco. We appreciate you sharing with us today.

We brought this little guy home at the end of June. He's a Cavachon. We had never heard of the breed until I searched for cute, non-shedding dogs and stumbled across them. Of course, you can't tell from pictures, but of all the hundreds of puppies I looked at, he seemed the happiest. So far he is adorable. And he doesn't shed. - Windbag

We hope you are around today Windbag so you can tell us what this little cutie's name is. He looks like an adorable pup. Hope to hear from you.

(Sammie)

We have welcomed Sammie and Angie to the pack. They are a bonded pair that have been together for 13 years. They said chihuahua and yorkie mix. Angie is the blonde and she's a sweet soul. Sammie reminds me of an Ewok for some reason! He's a bit aggresssive towards other dogs so integration has been a challenge. He absolutely loves people though and belly rubs. Definitely belly rubs. Both have lost most of their teeth so soft only for these two sweethearts. -jewells

That's a cute pair of pooches you have there. Once again thanks for the work you do with these seniors and sharing with us.

8 Thank you MisHum! Angie has since been to the groomers and looks much better! Sammie is the only male dog we have now. His eyesight is very limited and he bumps into things but he's a happy guy.

A good friend of ours is adopting Baby II. She's the husky mix you featured I think last week and I know he'll take very good care of her. We are just waiting for her skin condition to improve before we send her off to him. Of course we haven't had a meet and greet yet but I'm sure that will go fine.

16 I'm going to have to post this in parts, I guess, since Pixy thinks a cat story looks like spam:
1) Publius' parents kept a cat named Streaker. She was always a wild one, a
child of Whiskey, who didn't bring the kittens up to the house until
they were past socializing. Back in the day, Publius said, she was a
stocky cat. By the time of my arrival in 2018, she had become quite
bony (thyroid?) Anyway, she had large beautiful eyes, but whenever I
appeared she would give me what I called "an Adam Schiff look" and take
off. It took about a year for her to accept me as a suitable candidate
to feed her.

Posted by: Miley, the Duchess - #SuperStraight #NotSocked at July 10, 2021 02:15 PM (Mzdiz)

17 2) This past June 16th (actually June 17th, since it was 2 am) Publius
called me to the back porch. Streaker had walked past the sliding door,
he said, and was now standing on the crown of a slope leading down to
the stream behind our house. She'd only been down here once, last
summer when the house was being built. She knew Publius was here, doing
some wiring.
Now, she stood silently, watching us. He went inside to get cat
treats, but by the time he returned, she had disappeared towards the
woods, and hasn't been seen since. I went out to look for her body, but
found nothing. We wanted to bury her with my girl Harli, but she had
chosen her own resting place.

That farewell was bittersweet.

Great photos today. The pups are adorable. Bella the cat is a cutie, (I've always liked black and white cats) and the picture of the snacking cockatoo makes me smile. J.J. was mentioning today a movie he really likes called, "The Lady Killers" with Alec Guinness-which I highly recommend if people haven't see it. Anyway, there's a cockatoo in that movie-part of a funny scene .And here's a story I posted a few days ago, but I thought I'd post it again. 46 Here in Kentucky there are warnings about some sort of illness that's killing off the songbirds. Researchers think it has something to do with a bacteria or fungus that is appearing in birdseed that's been left outside, got wet, then whatever the bacteria/fungus is grows, birds eat the seed, get sick, die.

This apparently only affects birds that eat seed put out by people, not what they eat in the wild.

Not being said is where the seed is coming from. I have my suspicions.

Posted by: Martini Farmer at July 10, 2021 02:43 PM (BFigT)

47 I saved a red slider turtle that was trying to cross the main street into my neighborhood yesterday. I saw it crossing the road and a lady was driving toward me on the side the turtle was on, she didn't even see it and clipped it with her tire. I saw it spinning and turned around to see if she crushed it. It seemed fine so I picked it up and carried it to the side where the ponds is. Turtles are way too slow to attempt a road crossing.

That was kind of you to help out the turtle. For the past four days or so FenSpouse and I go out in the morning to a local adult community that has a pond on their property. There are a bunch of small fish and sliders in the pond. We throw out turtle food to them. The fish eat it too and the turtles often get annoyed by them. Anyway, it is a pleasure to see the turtles sticking their heads out of the water and then swimming over to get the food. The other day there was a heron there about three feet away from us. It makes such a nice start to the morning after our prayer time at home. I wonder, however, since we've been coming for a few days if we don't show up tomorrow the turtles think, "Hey, where's my breakfast?"

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VvY50vOIWl8

We had a rescue Yorkie/Chihuahua mix named Tralfaz. He was overweight at 6 lbs and our first small dog after having medium and large dogs.

He treed 2, 40+ pound raccoons one evening after chasing them off the porch. He did a leap to the ground and took after them with me in pursuit. Around the corner I could hear thrashing noise and feared Tralfaz had met his demise. Nope, the raccoons where 15 feet up a cedar tree with Tralfaz trash talking. He peed on the base of the tree and headed back to the porch.

Even a "bag of bones with a "Adam Schiff google eyes" (The connection with Adam Schiff made me laugh) can tug on your heartstrings-as Streaker did. 70 > Perhaps also treated seed that is coated with chemical to prevent such things?

I don't believe there's any "treatment" on the seed we have. There's just the typical advisory about it not being for human consumption. I understand that if left outside in a wet feeder the seed can mold. It's always done that. For some reason the bacteria or whatever is killing some species that eat the contaminated food. Never heard such before. Weird.

Sorry about your furry family member, Harli. It is so very hard to say goodbye and I think that's a lovely tribute-that she "put up with your various moves, after Tim died with uncommon grace." I wonder how many discussions took place about the character.

It isn't well known, but "Tralfaz" was the actual name for Astro, the dog on The Jetsons cartoon. He was adopted, the Jetsons were unaware and renamed him. I've no idea why I remember this.

87 Afternoon, all,

Bella is the true tuxedo cat! And I know about cats wanting to play at 2:00 a.m. Tatiana the Wonder Siberian kitten made a habit of waking me around that time, so often that I ended up putting the litter box in the kitchen and locking both cats out of my bedroom. I hated to do it, but I couldn't function on only 4 hours' sleep a night.

90 Regarding the birds and contaminated seed. Right after the Big Freeze in Texas in February we had an outbreak of a disease that affected finches--made them lethargic and listless. Turned out it was Salmonellosis transmitted by migrating Pine Siskins. The disease gets deposited on the seed at feeders and then picked up by other birds. People were advised to take down their feeders for a few weeks until the danger passed, but it never hit our area.

Don't know if that's what is going on in KY, but that's what the cause was here (central Texas).

95 Yes, our Tralfaz was named from that Jetsons episode. I had been waiting for years to use it and when we brought the little guy home I knew my chance had arrived.

He actually saved our marriage by forcing us to retire to the bedroom at 8:30 pm sharp nightly. So all three of us were on the bed and had time to talk things out as it was clear we were drifting apart but didn't know what to do. Then along comes Tralfaz and we start to laugh, talk, take quick trips to the coast.

I held him all night as he died. Longest night of my life including staying in my dad's hospital room after his stroke.

97 I'm staying for the weekend with my daughter in FW, and she's got a white german shepherd and a corgi named Brody. I was in a trundle bed and both of them were excited at me being here, and kept trying to get in my bed all night long. I dreamed of an orange wild cat with leopard spots that tried to get in my bed and was licking my head, then I dreamed I woke up and it really was this new abyssinian cat that I didn't know my daughter had, and it was still getting in bed with me.

Ordinarily I'd say it was psychologically pretty weird to dream about an animal getting in bed with you, but since it happened on a night when two big animals were pestering me and trying to get in my bed all night long, I think it's understandable.

I've known 3 well, and they are. But sometimes I think they are not ready for prime time. Angelique the creamy blue-eyed puffball growled if you shifted while she was on your lap. Tatiana the Wonder Siberian was sweet but sickly, and died young of heart trouble. And her nephew Chekov has digestion issues that require Rx food, and likes to nip to show he likes you.

Good thing cats are good-looking. If they looked like armadillos with psoriasis, we'd never put up with their attitudes.

Depends on the kitteh. My firstie, Toonses the street-fightin' tabby who forced his way into my home and heart, was a great, smart, fun, people-loving kitteh. The Fonz reincarnated as a feline. Then the dearest cat I'll ever have, "Dorkie Dork", who was 100% purebred sweetness whom I could take around in a sling pouch, and who was even more loving after losing her right, rear leg. And now Pretty Girl, another smallish Maine coon mix. She can be a feisty gal, but is becoming very friendly and playful with me. Smart but territorial. Nothing against the puppehs, but the kittehs got me. (And, yes, there are retarded cats, as my brother can attest to.)
