The Morning Report - 7/2/21

mungermanchur.jpg

Good morning kids. The July 4th weekend is here. As the United States of America celebrates its 245th birthday, the nation formerly known as the United States of America continues its seemingly inexorable slide towards a mass grave. I say seemingly because there is of late quite a bit of kicking and screaming from where it counts; at the grassroots level. And since we really can't know the future with any degree of certainty, and it's always full of surprises, it's better to soldier on and hope for the best, for no other reason than to be a giant pain in the ass to our tormentors.

That preamble, in particular the reference to a mass grave, is unfortunately appearing less and less hyperbole and more and more a warning as the days, weeks and now six months have passed since Black Wednesday January 6th. So many illusions have shattered and so many cold hard truths have slapped us across our collective masked face. The coldest and hardest being just how corrupt the institutions we had relied on - and more crucially believed almost blindly - to be just, fair, moral and ethical. How wrong we were, and especially about something we thought was the least likely to be affected by the rot: business.

Charlie Munger -- the billionaire investor and Berkshire Hathaway Vice Chairman -- insisted the "Communists did the right thing" while talking about the Chinese regime's oppression of it citizens and businessmen in China.

Following criticism of the Chinese Communist Party's financial and regulatory system, Ma disappeared for months from the public eye. Many suspected he had been arrested or even killed by the Chinese Communist Party. While Ma has since been seen in public, Chinese authorities have summoned him for questioning and quashed his forthcoming Ant Group initial public offering (IPO).

To Munger, however, the "Communists did the right thing."

The establishment Republican billionaire, who claimed Donald Trump wasn't "morally qualified" to be President, made the claim on a CNBC feature with Becky Quick focused on his relationship with his longtime business partner Warren Buffet.

Speaking about financial regulation in the U.S., Munger asserted that "the communist Chinese behave the way I am talking in favor of, and our own wonderful free enterprise economy is letting all these crazy people go to this gross excess."

While Munger was referring to his and his boss' hatred for independent trading platform Robinhood horning in on their action, his remarks in praise of the Chi-Coms - who are responsible for the lion's share of the well over 150 million victims of socialism and communism - are no less chilling. No doubt, pseudo-intellectual eggheads and pinheads like Thomas Friedman and Robert Reich, neither of whom ever held an actual real job where you get your hands dirty, nor have the faintest idea how to run a lemonade stand let alone meet a payroll, have an ideological hard-on for "benevolent, enlightened" dictators and autocrats just like them who can "make the trains run on time" merely by decree. 320 million unwashed proles, none of whom have any advanced degrees or the proper crease in their pants or savor the taste of arugula (or catamite penis), going off and doing their own thing is a sin. They are too ignorant to know what's best for them. Naturally, it is they and the Mungers, Buffetts, Zuckerberg's, Soros's et al of this world that are. And raking in billions and billions for their munificence - of rhetoric, not money or deeds - is just a nice fringe benefit.

This is where we're headed. The destruction of small business and the private sector and the consolidation of the manufacture and distribution of all goods and services into a handful of corporate entities that operate at the behest of the government. Hell, the way it seems and probably is is that the government operates at their behest. What the manufactured crisis of Chinese COVID did not kill, and it wiped out a vast swathe of small business across the nation, the current junta is going to finish off.

If you wanted to find the group getting the rawest deal in 2021 America, you might start with small-business owners. Many are finding themselves working 60- or 80-hour weeks just to scrape by. During the height of [Chinese] COVID-19, these companies were especially beaten down. Between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020, about 30% of U.S. small businesses closed, while total small-business revenue decreased by 31%, according to Economic Tracker. During the same period, the stock market boomed, and multinational corporations continued to thrive. The effects of this economic destruction are apparent in communities all over the country. Boarded-up storefronts on main streets across America are the norm.

Given this dynamic, it's almost incomprehensible that Senate Republicans are about to help pass an infrastructure package that unleashes the IRS to collect more revenue through aggressive policing of small businesses . . .

. . . In the face of all this, Senate Republicans' answer to fund the bipartisan infrastructure package is to unleash more IRS agents on small businesses to close the so-called tax gap. The tax gap is the difference between what the IRS calculates it's owed and what is actually paid each year. The IRS claimed the gap was $600 billion in 2019. That's a lot of money. If this were a matter of nabbing tax cheats, it would be a great solution. That's not what we are talking about, unfortunately. The tax code's complexity leads to confusion and inadvertent errors much more than it leads to actual fraud . . .

. . . It also wasn't too long ago that the nonprofit tax office at the IRS under Lois Lerner was found to have delayed applications from conservative nonprofits more than they did for liberal nonprofits, presumably for ideological reasons. Using the IRS's enormous power to tip the political scales was another massive breach of trust with the American people . . .

. . . It's amazing, but no longer surprising, that Washington Republicans are so unable or unwilling to read where their voters are. Increasing numbers of Republicans think Washington exists primarily to cater to huge corporate interests at the expense of individuals and small businesses. Looks like the GOP may be lining up to prove them right. If it's possible for trust levels in political institutions to fall any further than they already have, the Senate's Republican negotiators may have just found the key to making it happen.

Of course much of the real manufacturing of goods is now overseas. Much of it is in China. And China is all over this country - in our schools, our businesses and in our government. "We have always been at war with East Asia" is not just a line from 1984. Except we have never been aware of it until perhaps recently. Pundits talk about a coming "war" with China. Forget it. China has been and is at war with us. Except they are fighting it asymmetrically. But their front line soldiers are not in the PLA. They are our own citizens and neighbors; in our schools indoctrinating our kids against us, in our media pumping out pro-commie anti-western propaganda, and in our government bribing everyone from local dog-catcher all the way up to the demented stooge that was installed in the White House last January.

While Lincoln certainly was right in that "If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide," the poison we took came from Russia and is now being exploited by China. But hell, why blame them? We saw it, knew it, and did nothing about it. We can blame the Leftists for sure, but those allegedly on the right (I'm looking at you, Bush family) are equally guilty.

On a personal note, I hate giving the schnorrer pitch but if you can please hit my and Ace's tip jars. It helps keep the lights on, at least until we get carted off to the gulag.

Happy and safe 4th of July.

We discussed this briefly a few days ago. It's such a horrible understanding that your brain won't let you examine it easily. Your brain will try to distract you, or try to rationalize it somehow with "Oh, they didn't know" or "They were trying to help." It's because it's so unpleasant to acknowledge the truth.

They took those actions regarding treatment specifically to kill people, destroy small businesses, stunt the academic growth of 75% of an entire generation of children, wreck the economy, and remove capitalism (and an accidental pro-US, pro-capitalism, pro-freedom president) from the US.

They knew about HCQ and Ivermectin. Doctors who had success with the drugs tried to contact Fauci and tried to spread the word but they were ignored and/or outright censored and punished.

They did it on purpose. Your brain is trying to look away when you read that, isn't it? But it's true.

They did it on purpose.

I'm guessing Hamas doesn't care -- any Palestinian death can be blamed on Israel, so it's a win when they take out their own.

*I'm remembering that conversation between an IDF and Palestinian where the Pali said he was OK with killing Pali kids in order to show the world how Israel kils their children. They are a death cult.

There's a fair amount of needless equivocation there. This is something anyone on the right needs to get over. Just say it, and be blunt. The Republicans - and especially the national party Republicans - are worse than useless. They hold the base in contempt and take them for granted while doing everything in their power to lie, prevaricate, equivocate and act directly against the interests of the United States and her people. They are traitors to their supporters and mission. They are no different from the Democrats, other than running at half speed instead of full speed. Regardless of which party is formally in power, the road and destination are the same, and only the speed of our race toward perdition changes.

64 Funny thing about the IRS -- I just read a piece (zh?) on how, during this year's tax filing season, they only managed to answer 3%, yes 3% of the incoming incoming phone calls for tax assistance.

Combine this with a previous study from several years ago about the accuracy of their phone tax advice (50%), and

you only have a 1.5% chance of getting a correct or any answer from the IRS hotline. I can get better odds than that on the last place nag running at Pimlico.

I am totes infused with confidence.

68 Good morning hordelings. Thanks for the links, JJ. As to your link:
"Something is very rotten in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC),
which represents America's largest Protestant denomination, and it is
only a matter of time before it goes the sad way of the mainline
Methodists and Presbyterians. The rot at the core of the SBC is
illustrated in three men who ought to be stalwarts of the Gospel, but
who are instead leading the convention into Woke Hell."

I've been keeping up with this and some of the allegations are thin at best.

78 Wow, I am shocked to read that BLM witnesses would lie to a grand jury.

Being retroactively charged with murder is always a possibility in any self defense shooting. The fact that the person being charged had a concealed carry permit is prima fascia evidence that he is a law abiding person, since they don't issue those to criminals.
The actual crime here is felony murder, on the part of the rioters.

95 This is where we're headed. The destruction of small business and the
private sector and the consolidation of the manufacture and distribution
of all goods and services into a handful of corporate entities that
operate at the behest of the government.

When Occupy Wall Street and the various other protests against Big Such and Such went on, "we" - the rhetorical we here - failed to see that they had a point. "We" failed, I've come to see, because of a reflexive reaction against what they looked like.
The economy I've grown up in, my entire life, has never been the capitalistic ideal that many love to claim. It's always capitalized profits and socialized losses. It's always been "top down".
Because big business has seen that they can't control labor prices until they first control labor demand. And they intend to drive out their only other competitor, small biz. Rest assured - once small biz is driven from the arena en masse' - the $15/hr days at McDonald's will be brought to an end, and quickly.

YES

One fascinating aspect of the COVID propaganda has been how they've slid from one metric to the next in order to keep the fear porn amped to "11." First it was # of hospitalizations, then % hospital occupancy (area hospitals at 99% capacity!!), then # of cases, the % increase in cases, now rate of infection (I'm sure I've forgotten a few).

And in each case, the #'s are never in context, so that we have no way of assessing for ourselves if the #s they provide are signoficant or standard compared to, say, normal hospital occupancy, rate of seasonal flu infection. # of deaths per year for covid vs. seasonal flu, etc.

The Delta rate of speard is total scare tactics -- have not heard one thing about how it is more lethal than covid or the flu.

1. Leave your cell phone at home
2. Go to a store not in your town, or one you don't usually go to, and guy a prepaid Visa card. The card must be non-reloadable and single-use. Pay cash for it. I prefer the "Vanilla" branded ones (look on the back of the package, the front often doesn't carry branding) as I know they work.
3. Go to a public terminal or use a VPN to activate the card and assign a ZIP code to it. I usually look up a school in a big city in another state and use their address.
4. Use the card to make a donation, using the address and ZIP code from step 3.

He is an example of why I am opposed to the death penalty. I don't oppose the death penalty because I think it is immoral, or evil, or unjustified, or inhumane, or unfair. I think there are any number (though a small number) of crimes for death is a reasonable, moral, just and proper punishment.

But I do not trust the state to wield the power of death-as-punishment. The judicial system is corrupt to its core at every level. Your local prosecutor looking to make a name for himself and breaking the rules and railroading an innocent man is just as dangerous as (though his scope is more limited than) Garland setting national murder policy. The system is corrupt, faulty, dishonest, unreliable and untrustworthy. I have less than no interest in placing the power of death-as-punishment in the hands of the scandalously corrupt and abjectly evil.

Yes, I agree. That said, you may find it odd - or at least interesting - that after the initial "exit strategy" talking points from early in the conflict, the press and other establishment actors didn't much care about that, did they? They went after Rumsfeld not for his execution of the war, but for being dumb (which he wasn't). Now why would that be? It wouldn't be because the establishment was totally on board with the permanent middle eastern and central Asian wars at that point, and were just playing party politics at home to subvert those wars to benefit their masters, would it?

Nah.

On another forum, disconnected from politics, someone made the very earnest claim that we had defeated the flu last year because of masks.

I didn't have the heart (or patience or inclination) to get into it about how flu deaths were measured in years past (almost entirely educated estimates) or how all flu like symptoms were being attributed to covid when in previous years they would have been attributed to the flu.

Not for me. I suppose I could this year, now that I've moved, but I didn't buy any. I don't even think of it. Where I grew up is very dry and very susceptible to very bad fires. We didn't shoot of fireworks because it was way too dangerous and reckless to do so. There were some municipal or county fireworks shows, but even a lot of those were routinely canceled in dry years. "Fire == danger" and "Fireworks == fire == danger" is deeply ingrained in my thinking at this point.

Thanks to our policies of reduced arrest and automatic release without bail, our out-on-bail repeat offender crime rate has plummeted. The best way to deal with this kind of problem is to remove the systemic factors that cause it: the bail and jail system.

Think about what is going on. Democrats are weaponizing the government, our government against the people and those declared their political enemies. They have subverted justice and replace it with persecution.

Your two most important stories of the day are the political attack on the Trump organization and the SpaceX subpoena. That's before we get to the January 6th despotism. They are coming after you folks, and they don't care who knows.

Who do we get to protect us? Bozo the Clown who is more comfortable in big red floppy shoes, selling reverse mortgages then marshaling a proper defense. 252 So apparently the judge in the Britney Spears' conservatorship case denied the motion to end the conservatorship, but she also directed Spears' court-appointed lawyer to file a motion to end the conservatorship at the same time. So it looks as though it will eventually be terminated, as soon as the lawyer gets off his ass and files the paperwork.

Meanwhile a hedge fund that had been granted leave to serve as co-conservator has petitioned for permission to withdraw. Apparently the hedge fund agreed to do the job because Mr. and Mrs. Spears had told them that Britney consented to the conservatorship. But hedge fund execs became aware of Britney's testimony at the recent hearing, and now don't want any part of this mess (probably because they fear bad publicity if they're involved).

Tory Snow was discussing how B'More Mayor Brandon Scott seems to not like taking questions from members of the Press who do not like like himself.

And finally flat out said that the Mayor seems to have a racism or bigotry issue when it comes to Whipeepo.

To which a texter responded that after a history of abuse by whites against blacks, that the black population of B'More was 'enjoying the hell out of it'.

291 So, I read the charging docs on the Trump Org CFO so you don't have to, and they are just what you would expect...embarrassingly ridiculous and non-criminal in every way. How is that you ask? Because every fringe benefit, if you can actually call them that, is ALLOWED by the IRS.

First, the apartment. Its a corporate apartment in NYC for TO executives use during the week if they live outside the city and work late, which the CFO does. He lives in Wantagh, LI. To get around this obvious legal usage, the DA had to claim that the CFO was living there...except he paid all his taxes for a residence in Wantagh, and a commuter tax to NYC, so is NYC, Nassau county and the Hamlet of Wantagh going to reimburse the CFO for all those years of falsely taxing the man? Don't bet on it. Besides, its clearly allowable by the IRC to either reimburse the man for travel or provide other "accommodations." He is not required to list that as taxable compensation.

A company car is also a perfectly legal way to avoid reimbursing the man for travel, and nearly every hedge fund manager, VP banker, or law firm partner has one, or a business livery service (the same thing).

Being a conservative I'm conditioned to be disappointed and fucked over by the GOPe and now even blamed for these cocksuckers "conservatism", a philosophy that has never been embraced or governed by within the Republican Party. Ain't that a bitch!
I washed my hands of the party years ago and what happened between Nov3 and Jan6 drove home why that was a good decision. The Republican Party no longer disappoints me.
The onus is on us, each individual citizen that recognizes the evil that is happening right now, to call it that and not sit idly by and wait for a stupid f'ing politician and their party to do something about it. We are clearly on our own and need to start acting like it.

I'm sure once the Repubs win big in 22' and drive everyone into a mouth foaming frenzy by their inaction (I promise and guarantee they will disappoint you) and then when the Trump/DeSantis presidential ticket is defeated by a large margin by whatever fraud the Dems/left cook up in 24', maybe citizens will wake the fuck up and maybe decide to pushback. They claimed that people were literally dying in the streets and the morgues were over flowing with bodies they did not have time to cremate, yet not once did anyone manage to snap a picture of even get a grainy shaky video of all of this. About the college tuition payment by companies - the charging documents claim its compensation to the CFO, the US Dept of Ed actually, get this, encourages this asa a non-taxable fringe benefit! The idea is to get big corporations to donate funds to employees to send kids to college so the Feds don't have to loan it and colleges don't have to spend scholarship money that could go to less well off kids. The CCP, the EU and many foreign companies have been doing this for decades, so the US let American companies in on the act.

365 Lots of good stuff up there. I keep summing it up with "Bailouts for Billionaires". They leverage up and make incredible profit (LTCM leveraged 300:1) but then if they fail, "Too Big to Fail/Jail". America the Beautiful bails them out (by selling the beauty to China and globalist oligarchs).

366 I am interested in those details and having the IRS position on these is appreciated when I am talking to others.
Posted by: Jen the original at July 02, 2021 08:20 AM (td7Tn)

If you go to the IRC, the IRS allows for $.56 per mile in travel reimbursement, and Wantagh is a lot further from the man's NYC offices than the 14 mile rule, so, yeah, either you give the man a hotel room, or a corporate apt is made available, or you're reimbursing the man a ton a of money every day, seven days a week (like CFO's work) to get into the city. It isn't really a matter of interpretation, its right there in the friggin' code.

In most companies, they have in their payroll software a provision that auto reimburses for commuting into NYC. And NYC charges a commuter tax to the company also. Its all so much BS, these charges.

Reimbursement is for business travel. Trips to and from your home to your main place of employment are considered personal. I had a company car, and was taxed on the personal use. Business use consisted of trips beyond those to the office, such as going to the airport for a business trip, or a trip to another location

381 To ward off the class warfare, our "elites" insist upon having a race war.

382 But what if the goal was to kill people?

Read "Rainbow 6" Tom Clancy. Those people are to stupid to come up with a plan on their own. They use plot point from other's. Remember the short lived spin-off of the X-Files? "The Lone Gunman" premiere episode has the 3 moron-hero's foil a plot to crash a 767, out of Boston into the World Trade Center.

383 "Between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020, about 30% of U.S. small businesses closed..."

I see the 30% number stated often, but a significant percent of small businesses close every year. The survival rate of small businesses is only 50% after 5 years. It would be helpful to know what the closure rates is in non-COVID years, but I've been unable to find that stat.

384 In California, most of the "under the table" businesses are owned by immigrants. I know this is true, because soon after I started a new job, my pay was in cash delivered in a big brown bag. So I quit.

When the state used to talk about this, they were owed about $6B per year from these guys. So either the IRS is going to crack down on them too (ha!) or we are heading for another carve out from the law for another privileged class.
