Man, I'm tired. I've been working all day moving stuff from the old RV to the new one, with a time out to install the correct ignition switch in my mower. It started right up! Then ran for 30 seconds and died. It started right up again! Then ran for 30 seconds and died. It did this about 4 times, and now it won't start again. I'm about ready to throw the damn thing in the lake. I wonder what would happen if I blew off the ONT?

Sounds like a clogged fuel line, or possibly you need to remove the carburator and clean it out.

At that point, with mine, I would remove the air cleaner and either pour gas down the carburetor or more probably spray carb cleaner into the throat (of the mower) while cranking it.
I'm not recommending it or saying that I would wear safety glasses but that's what I would do.

I worked remotely for a month in April, and another fortnight in May helping Mom take care of him. There's nothing I would not do for them. I am so fortunate to work for a company that has a robust remote work system. Still, been a tough year.

Clear every bit of the fuel system leading to the carb, clean out any varnished deposits, and refill with the fuel sans ethanol. Some starting fluid into the intake, and if successful, you're on your way. If it still stalls out, the problem is likely varnish in the carb itself. Worth payin' a pro to fix that one, I think. If you don't do it all the time, the pro mechanic will save you headache, if not actual cash vs. repeated mistakes and buying wrongpartz.

Best case scenario: Remove the spark plug, scrape the carbon off, and start it back up.
Worse case:
I'd love to know how much additional energy in parts, labor, shipping, etc. we've used since "saving" gas by switching to ethanol. Related: I'm guessing ethanol has f*cked up your everything. You could probably start with the carberator, but don't be surprised if you end up replacing fuel lines and all kinds of other stuff.
But hey, you're saving the environment by throwing away all those old once-good parts and replacing them with new stuff that had to be shipped in because crappy gas ruined your stuff. If I'm honest I'm still unclear on that part of the "save the earth" calculation.

Heh. I did that last Spring. Got the mower out for the first time and it wouldn't start. I'd been having a bad day and that was the last straw. Hopped in the car and bought a new one. The uncooperative mower was maybe 5 years old. Patience is not my strong suit.

Personally, I dump my old gas from the mower, tiller, etc. in the gravel driveway where weeds typically grow and say; fuck it. My Toro mower needs a new carb because I neglected it for a couple years. It's on my list. Number 132.

It could also be a defective 'new' starter switch. I once had a bad voltage regulator, bought a new one and installed it, and... the damn thing wouldn't run. I wound up changing the generator, the starter, etc etc etc to find... the new regulator was bad. Grrrrrrrrr.

Yep. I was just using my Dixon ZTR this evening. It has this recurring problem. Mow, mow, mow, quit dead. Some piece of debris has blocked the outlet to the fuel tank. Pull line off carb, blow into it, clog clears. Then its good again for an indeterminate time. Could be a few minutes, could be several weeks. Since the immediate "fix" is so easy, i can't be bothered to take the fuel tank off and flush it out. There is a filter to catch finer particles that might damage the carb.

I was pretty depressed because my daughter was at her mom's house and I wasn't going to get to see her.
A nice older woman walked up to me and asked if I was a father, even though I had long, straggly hair and a scruffy beard and was wearing a t-shirt and shorts and some sandals and kinda looked a lot out of place.
I said I was, but that I wouldn't get to see my daughter because of the custody arrangement. She said "Your daughter loves you and wishes she was with you right now" and then she walked out into the lobby and got a brown paper sack that had a Moonpie and an RC Cola in it and told me happy Father's Day. Completely changed my mood and I have been going to that church ever since.

Had the top off the carb several times, no clogs found. Finally discovered the seat for the float needle valve had come unscrewed about one full turn. The needle was jammed closed, but fuel pump pressure forced enough fuel through the space in the threads to flood it out at idle, but would not pass enough for it to run at cruise. And it was not immediately obvious, because the seat sat in a well in the carb body, so the threads could not be seen.
Screwed it back in tight, and all was fine again.

The opening to UP is why anyone remembers the film. It isn't Cars 2, but once you get past that initial emotional investment the film becomes A Bug's Life level of "meh." As shown by no one ever talks about anything other than the opening and the dogs' "Squirrel!" catch phrase/behavior thing.

the song is powerful but still just a caricature. It is the Hollyweird version of Vietnam. I saw a kid sing it to recent war vets as a tribute, it is on YT somewhere. Something about a kid singing about hash pipes doesn't sit well with me. It is a powerful song in many ways. But I don't know for sure it is the tribute some think it is. JMO.

I think he was more of a lyricist. I recall reading his lyrics in an American Literature anthology way back when. I think that was the first time I heard of the guy. I do like his pancho and lefty set with Willie though.

that is fare. And it was a powerful movie. It was done really well. But looking back at it, it was a disgraceful attack on vets so cleverly done, many missed it. Even back in the 80s we said it contained every bad thing that happened in that war in one platoon. Sure it was artistic license and tastes very. I personally can't stand the movie because, well, it is all there to see.
I mentioned this before, but I recall the night I saw the movie with my parents. I thought it was bad ass. I said how great it was, blah blah. My dad said "I was there!". That stung a bit but there was nothing else to say really.

I really did get to see him in Raleigh back in the 90s. It was a fantastic show, and it was great because you could tell the crowd was there not to laugh or make fun of some circus freak, but to listen to him play and enjoy the show.
Absolutely one of my most favoritetist concerts.

If you've ever visited a lighthouse it's you going around and up awkward, angled, and increasingly bunched up steps that don't seem to ever end. She was walking then but not super coordinated of course so I carried her. Up and up in an escherian nightmare of ascending circles. One arm because I used the other hand to steady myself on the rare occasion that a handrail was present. Her little weight felt like 80lb by halfway and a 150 when I got to the top. But it was worth it and I could show her across the coastal river inland, or out to the ocean, and how you could see into SC a whole other state, look at all the tiny people. I talked for a while because I knew it was gonna be difficult going down too. But it was a good daddy daughter day.
Well, I asked her if she remembered all that. Nope. But I'd like to think it's still there as a different level of memory that forms some part of her life and makes it better.

Knopfler's amazing. Lots of his live stuff on YouTube. He told a good story about how he played Sultans of Swing and later on told his wife that the audience, which usually loves it, didn't.
She said, "Did you play the deedly-deedly bits at the end?" I about died at the phrase, and so did the crowd. Everyone knows the deedly-deedly bits in that song.
He admitted he hadn't, and had changed it up a bit. She told him that's their song. They paid him to play their song. It was quite poignant. I wish James Taylor would have heeded this advice, before doing an entire concert of his Greatest Hits, ALL changed completely -- meter, rhythm, phrasing, and tune. I would have walked the hell out. Especially at the price his tickets were for the show. Arrogant bastard didn't want anyone to hear their favorite songs. Didn't even realize that's what those songs *are*. Mark's wife was spot-on.

If Congress passes laws and the states just refuse to follow them, what are they going to do? Do they plan to invade Arizona? Most of the military in a state is made up of reservists and National Guard.
Precedent has already been set for local law enforcement to ignore federal laws without any repercussions. The left already set up conditions with their sanctuary cities.
At the end of the day, the federal government is pretty powerless to enforce anything if a state refuses to cooperate.

Music was my escape in the 80s, especially in the latter part of the decade, when I joined the Army and met my future Ex-ex and had my eldest daughter.
The music I listened to at that time reminds me of those good times.
70s music reminds me of when I was a little kid in Alameda/Oakland, and 1980 was when my dad got orders for Pearl.
80s was when I came of age, so to speak.
90s was being a mom.
00s was being a soldier again and Iraq.
Stands to reason, with the advent of Walkmans and boomboxes...and then mp3 players, music would kinda resonate with me.

His singing is a matter of personal taste. I like it, myself, but fully understand why others don't. I don't care for his harmonica playing at all.

We were in that rain for about the same amount of time as you, amigo. WD's "Lexus" quip aside, I was driving four passengers in a Ford Transit 350, from the far west side of Katy, TX, to a guest-house down in Galveston. Eighty mile trip, and it rained like that for forty of 'em. Very nice tip after all that, I'm pleased to report. And yeah, that pic was taken while I was driving at about 20mph, with the wipers on full boogie. You can see.. they helped, but not much!

Just 2 examples. Feds (again, as before 2017) are just abandoning rule of law on immigration, admitting 100s of thousands of illegal/fake asylum/no status migrants, distributing them all over, they've even stopped the risible kabuki of court summons. These people can go anywhere, forever, they're above the law (even if convicted of crimes and thereby deportable, ain't happening, ICE is now becoming a "sanctuary" facilitator via policy and budgets). So - nothing states can do. See court decision against AZ from 2011 for how helpless states are.
And - environmental regs. Trump admin. was just getting around to trying to remove CA's disastrous choke-hold on automotive-related stuff. That's over, ain't returning. And market power = CA can and will continue to dictate to OK and TX and everyone else. On most big things, federalism is a great idea but lacks real-world clout.

Kind of amazing. The two staple short-range AA systems of the US Navy in WWII, both from neutrals. Just as Japan was finally surrendering, the US Navy was beginning to switch to a new, rapid-firing and radar direct-able 3-inch gun, which would pretty much make mincemeat out of air threats of the time.
Except the cloth/wood biplane kamikazes that would have been deployed during Olympic and Coronet - which proved immune to all our systems of the time (used at night).

Excellent book, along with "Claudius the God". Brilliantly adapted into the BBC television series. Might I also suggest Graves' "Count Belisarius", as well as his translation of The Twelve Caesars. I think he got the idea for writing "I, Claudius" while doing that translation.

They of course know the business, but I'm puzzled by this, as part of the primer issue is commercial demand, whereas (for the most part) powder produced for the mass market works different capacity than that which feeds commercial/military producers.
They refer to massive new numbers of gun owners. But a very very small % of new gun owners are into reloading.

Oh, some good news. Less than 20% of pregnant women (birthing persons?) in the US have been vaccinated against the WuFlu. There are reports out lamenting this, and we need to do more to get these pregnant women jabbed.
This is a cause for hope. It means that many OB-GYNs are quietly telling their patients not to get vaccinated. I was reading some stuff about this. They whisper this. If they publicly went against the party line, they would be cancelled. Hell, most doctors now are not independent businessmen. They are employees.

In my case, it was a family member who works in health care, commenting about her recent personal experience, and how surprised she was at that particular diagnosis at this time of year.
I'm guessing we will be seeing a lot of "off-season" sniffles due to nobody being exposed to stuff for the last 15 months - some of these germs are always out there circulating, and all of our immune systems got reset.

My riding lawnmower seems to work just fine, but IU have a pressure washer that has required 2 carburetors due to varnishing. I also had to replace all of the in-tank hoses for my leafblower because they literally melted from the ethanol in the gas.

Yah the State took (paid for) 20 acres off the left side of our 200 acre farm in Rosenburg to build a new highway for hurricane evacuations coming out Houston and Galveston.
I think(?) that's a good deal for us, because now our property will have frontage next to the highway to sell for gas stations, convenience stores, etc. Plus Rosenburg is expanind west toward us pretty quickly. We had to stop letting friends hunt on the farm because new housing was popping up inside the range fan.

For one children need exercise to grow their muscles and nerves which are still growing and not complete. Plus they have a need to explore and extend their boundaries.
All this goes out the window when people strap their kids in a stroller and push them around everywhere.
I understand young children are very hard to keep track of and keep up with. but as Parent your job is to see that the child grows up mentally, emotionally and physically and being strapped in a stroller like a prisoner in a mental ward is not how you do it.

I had this old snapper, 20 years old, best mower I ever owned. Finally the engine quit, I replaced the engine with a used one, then breakdowns came fast and furious until I had spent what a new mower costs in fruitless repairs.
SO, tired of the tall grass and spent money I bought a new one.
