Meet The PetMorons

Hi. Here is my son and daughter-in-law’s super deprived dog Daisy. You can tell by the lack of suitable amusements and that uncomfortable bed. I almost didn’t want to send this because I was afraid they would get in trouble and have to cancel her next spa date.

Sharon(willow’s apprentice)

To be honest with you, I'm not sure how the 3 of you can look yourself in the mirror on a daily basis. That poor doggeh has such a miserable life. And now Daisy will be famous. Thanks for the contribution.

Annabelle_Portrait (2) (1).jpg

MisHum,

Attached is a portrait of Miss Linda's late white cat Annabelle. She was a small, affectionate (to humans only!) shorthair whom Linda took in after Hurricane Katrina in '05, so she must have been 16 or 17. Annabelle had been let out to fend for herself when her "humans" fled the storm, and she was doing all right, leading and dominating a group of bigger cats. She was quite pleased to move indoors. As I said, she disliked other cats. One night, however, when Annabelle visited my place and tried to throw her weight around, my little gray tabby Siberian, Tatiana, decided she would have none of this nonsense in her own territory, and thrashed Annabelle soundly. The little white cat hid under my bed all night.

But she liked humans enormously, sat in my lap every time I visited, and was a wonderful friend. She'd been slowing down some in the last week or two, but giving no obvious indication that she was sick. Last week Linda found her: off to Cat Heaven, where she will no doubt continue to dominate other cats and intrigue to be crowned Queen Feline of All Time.

The scan is weird, as the pic has been accidentally crumpled. But it's a good portrait of her.

She'll be missed.

Wolfus Aurelius

The Lord does work in miraculous ways. Annabelle needed a home and Miss Linda needed another PetMoron in her life. What a heart warming story. Sorry to hear she has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Just a quick note from a long time lurker. Wanted to add to the short list of non-mammal photos.

The kids picked up this yellow bellied slider from the creek behind our house. Johnathan is now just over a year old. And is very hand tame, he'll eat from your fingers.

A couple of photos of his growth year over year.

Tag me as MadItalian.

Well it's a good thing that the kids didn't find a cute little bear cub. Jonathan has really grown up in the past year. If you are on today come out of the shadows and comment about what he eats, the type of aquarium, etc. I don't recall any wild turtles being featured before. Thanks for sharing.

Quite the local pub you have there. Thank you for this unusual photo. We don't get too many horses tied up at the local saloon photos.

Gilligan on set.jpg

Many blessings be upon you and the Pet Thread,

I don't know if he's the next Morris, but here's his story. Gilligan was maybe near a year old when he was rescued from under a vacant house near Ocala, Florida, by my brother. He and my sister plumped Gilligan up, had him checked by a vet, and put him up for adoption. The lady who adopted him is a professional animal trainer who has regular shows at a place I can't name, and whose animals are used in commercials, which I also can't name. Nonetheless, here's a sneak shot of a cat that had been abandoned. He's likely less than two years old. I hope the perps recognize him in his new commercial. - aka Born Free

Well Gilligan sure ended up at the right place. Kudos to your siblings for rescuing this critter and putting it up for adoption. We'll keep our eyes open for Gilligan. And thank you very much for your contribution today.

I always enjoy the Pet Thread, but little did I know that my beloved girl would be gone at this writing. Her name was Riley

And she was as good a friend that you could ask for. We adopted her 18 years ago this month in fact. She got to grow up on 20+ acres in Dripping Springs, TX with cows, donkeys and potato guns. She could track a rock thrown from my hand at midnight and bring back THAT rock. She was a special girl who had a great run.

Give all your moron pets an extra hug, because you never know when God wants them back. The attached pic was taken in my home office, in her usual position (when not bumming bits of my bistek tacos). It’s just a little bit lonelier here now. -jaksucio

Condolences on your recent loss. I can only imagine how your house is a little bit lonelier and quiet. Thanks for sharing with us today, we know it must have been hard. Riley certainly was a fine companion.

9 We recently had our daughter and her 2 children and their Great Dane spend the night in our motorhome. Now, we have a 40 ft. rig and it is big enough for the two of us and the dog, but the extra people made it an interesting experience. The Great Dane is 11 months old and as big as a small pony. Our Weimaraner is 13 years old and can hardly walk and is going deaf but she made sure that the Dane knew who was boss. She didn't have to do anything but slightly turn her head and lift her top lip and the Dane would cower by the door. What a baby. My daughter is now on her way moving to Utah from Ohio. Her car has the dog, the cat and the turtle. I told her if they all come out alive I would count it as a win.

12 I picked up When Pigs Fly, as a Kindle book. This is an excellent training book. She talks about the difference between "biddable" and "non-biddable" dogs. Biddable dogs are easy to train because they were bred to pay attention to what you want to do. Non-biddable dogs are the ones that are independent minded and will ignore you. She developed her techniques training her bull terrier. I haven't been big on clicker training. I bought one when we got Jake and he chewed it up! Made a great picture for the springer group. She starts by "loading up" training, which is just getting the dog to associate the clicker with tasty treats. I'll report back on how this works out.

My favorite story is when she takes her dog to a training class. She cooks up a pork loin for dog treats, tasty enough she has a few slices after it's cooked. At the class, she notices a woman using hard dog biscuits for treats. The woman tells her that her dog likes them just fine. Later, the woman lets her dog loose for an off lease exercise. The dog make a beeline for that bag of pork loin treats and starts eating them.

14 Had to cut the long book review short. I have new clickers and will be trying her techniques on my hard headed springer.

Also, I was watching an Asher House video. He's the guy with all the dogs, that travels around rescuing dogs. He has a dog that has seizures and mentioned that CBD oil kept them under control. I'm trying it on the old dog. Too soon to know if it works for her.

27 It's official, our very territorial cat Bella (featured here a few weeks ago) is a girly girl kitty. The Mrs was cleaning out a closet and ran across a bag of slips and laid them out on the bed. They were made from different materials.

Of course Bella showed up to supervise the operation. She discovered a silk slip and promptly commander it. So much so she takes it with her to wherever she naps. Right now she has it on the PaPa San foot stool in the office. She even drug it on the bedroom window sill where she watches for the feral cats that come to feed.

30 Afternoon, all,

Good to see MisHum got Annabelle the white cat up this week. She was not a flashy cat like others we've had or known, but a definite character. When we bugged out for the hurricane in Sept. of '08, we had no less that 4 cats between us. So the Homewood Suites in Birmingham got a little crowded. I'm pretty sure Annabelle found it intolerable living with two of the other three (the fourth was sick with what became her final illness, and spent the four or five days in intensive care at a vet shop in the 'burbs). I expect that if she could have talked, she'd have told Linda when we got back home, "Don't you EVER do that to me again!"

Arizona the late part-Maine Coon commandeered my then-wife's little stuffed Pegasus, which was just the right size to be a pretend rat, and carried it around in his jaws. For years he'd play with it, sometimes secretly. I'd hear him in the living room and creep out to find him playing roughly with it. He'd look at me -- "Busted!" -- and stroll off as if he didn't care about the toy, but then I'd catch him at it again.

He's been gone some 22 years now. And I still have the stuffed Pegasus atop a bookshelf.

A town NW of here has a luxurious rock-and-water enclosure downtown near the revitalized shopping district and what used to be the railroad station for their alligator mascot. The original was there for many years, well-treated and feted, and when he passed on they adopted a successor. A nearly-grown alligator, now. He's so dark that if the day is sunny, you have to peer carefully to see him in the shade in there. If you ever go to the Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula, look him up.

We do something similar with pets that had a special toy. We keep them in a wooden box in the garage. Each toy has an attached card with the pet's name and a story. We even have Nikki's (half Whippet, half Siberian Husky) tennis shoe. She would spend hours flipping the shoe in the air and trying to catch it. That is when she was working on her latest escape plan.

Maybe Woolworths was where I got the turtles instead.
My first job out of school was working in a Woolworths and I knew they sold turtles and chameleons. No alligators through.

Your cat Annabelle seemed like she had quite a personality.

I have some pain in my leg from sleeping on the bed.( I have a old break that never healed properly from- of of all things -doing a play in which I had to do a do a swordfight, and getting caught up in ropes and breaking the leg during a rehearsal) so the couch often seems to work better. Fen, in my experience black cats are the most easygoing and adaptable, maybe even the smartest overall.

All my felines have strongly displayed their personalities. Quirky and defensive with strangers, demanding and eager for new experiences, sweet and placid, affectionate but psychotic on occasion, super-clever . . . no two have been alike.

Pet turtles. Used to have a bunch when I was a little kid. We took good care of them, but my dad hated them anyway. When we moved cross-country he had his excuse to get rid of them, with a flim-flam promise to get new ones in Colorado. It was a sham of a mockery of a ruse that never came to pass.

Condolences on all the very real losses that passing pets leave behind. May the remembered joy of those pets be with you for a long time to come!

72 Ben Had!
Hello sweet lady. I hope you get to dry out one of these days.
Lucy the cat had decided it's time for me to be awake to enjoy the pre dawn cacophony of birdsong every morning at 445. She's very persistent. She jumps on the bed and cuddles up
next to me and starts batting my nose with her paw. If I ignore her, she uses just the tiniest tip of her claw.

She's lucky I adore her.

73 I never wanted one of the latter, but I suppose some kids did.

74 Hello Ben Had, Conor and I send our greetingS to you and, of course, to your pups!

76 What a lovely group of morons we have today.

Howdy all!
This is the greatest place on the interwebs. Where else can you have a community like this? Warms my heart.

77 I have a question about Daisy, in the first photo. Is the toy in the very front...a stuffed wine glass that's been spilled?
Posted by: BeckoningChasm at June 05, 2021 03:53 PM (OU+8W)

I know, that seems more like a cat toy, doesn't it.

Funny you should say that because now that I have laid myself down on the couch, he has climbed the mini-stairway and is sleeping with me on the couch, his favorite nap position.

Posted by: Commissar Hrothgar at June 05, 2021 04:01 PM (hOUT3)

79 @77 I think the cat would say, "Bah, trying to fool me with ersatz? Just wait til those goblets come out again. You'll rue this day."

81 My Maine Coon was a glass-destroying monster. He actively hunted for glasses to smash. He loved that.

84 Oboy the pet thread. Alas, can't peruse it right now. We're packing the car to spend the weekend at Mom's. This is our usual routine, and, by the motions we go through, we think the cats can tell we'll be away for a couple of nights.

With daughter & hub on the road this week, and Milady and I away for the weekend, Son M gets the responsibility for his own cat, and Daughter's two not-really-such-kittens-anymore, and our three old felines.

Feeding kittehs is not a big deal.

It's the litterboxes that make it a chore, right?

90 Last time I seen a horse hitched up at a saloon was, well, never.
Posted by: Skip at June 05, 2021 02:04 PM (Cxk7w)

Used to happen quite often at the bar in the town nearest me. One of the local cowboys used to frequent the place.

He should have stuck to the horse. He flipped his pickup while trying to elude the cops, and ultimately lost his driver's licence.

Thanks. The kitties seem to be holding their own. The oldest, not too human-friendly, is looking a little too thin.

The old chihuahua we inherited is spirited, but blind and wanting more love now.

94 I took Bogie to Petco to get supplies and a new ID tag. Unlike our walks when he barks like mad, especially at the beautiful Bella Pomsky, he was silent. For being a good boy he got a new squeaky toy.

He's so perfect
