The Morning Report - 5/25/21

Minskies.jpg

Good morning kids. Tuesday and the big story that broke yesterday was Vladimir Putin's Belarussian puppet, Alexander Lukashenko, forced down a RyanAir flight traveling between Athens, Greece and Vilnius, Lithuania and seized dissident journalist Raman Pratasevich - an actual journalist, not someone like Brian Williams who just plays one on television - and his girlfriend. Lukashenko is an authoritarian thug and despite "winning" the last election, the US and EU do not recognize him as legitimate (I sense a recurring theme). Pratasevich has been a vocal critic of the government but he has just issued this statement while being detained in Minsk:

"The attitude of the [Interior Ministry] employees towards me has been as correct as possible and in compliance with the law," Protasevich says in the video, which was posted Monday evening to a pro-government social media channel. "I continue to cooperate with the investigation and have confessed to organizing mass riots in the city of Minsk," he also says. His supporters believe the video was made under duress.

His father, Dmitri Protasevich, told the BBC on Monday that he was "really afraid" of how his son would be treated by the authorities.

"We hope that he will cope. We are afraid to even think about it, but it's possible he could be beaten and tortured. We are really afraid of that," he said.

"We are really shocked and really upset," he said. "This sort of thing shouldn't be happening in the 21st Century at the heart of Europe.

"We hope that the whole international community, including the European Union, will put unprecedented pressure on the authorities. We hope the pressure will work and the authorities will realise they've made a really big mistake."

Mistake? The only mistake Putin and Lukashenko made was not claiming the jet was hijacked by the Mossad in order to bomb Gaza and just shot it down. No doubt there would've been collective ululating and candy thrown from the windows. I mean, look who sits in the White House; a dementia patient who, in his rare moments of lucidity is taking bribes and payoffs from thugs like Lukashenko all over the former Soviet Union and elsewhere. But because he and his henchmen who rigged the 2020 election spent four years claiming Trump colluded with Putin to steal 2016, they've now painted themselves into a corner. Back in March, Biden actually referred to Putin as a "killer" with "no soul." Okay tough guy, make Putin pay! And pay he did - Biden cancels Keystone XL and gives the green light for Russia to build Nord Stream 2. Yeah, that'll show that dog-faced pony-soldier all right.

Look, I'm not itching for a confrontation with the Russians, but an incident like this would simply not have happened under Trump. Besides Democrats and especially Biden being absolutely wrong about foreign policy since forever, Biden being in the pocket of so many of our foreign enemies just makes the situation that much worse. Collectively, the American left project weakness and stupidity, which is rooted in their worldview that America's superpower status since the end of World War 2, and especially being the lone superpower for the past 30 years is a destabilizing force. Couple that with the toxic Marxist overtones of America being illegitimate, racist, imperialist etc. along with multiculturalism, moral relativism and globalism and this is the result.

One of the left's more nauseating battle cries is "the whole world is watching." Well, you can bet your bollocks to a barn dance that it sure is. Hello, Chi-Coms. But don't worry. Biden and the EU, especially Merkel, won't cancel Nord Stream 2, but there will be a strongly worded letter in the NY Times.

Speaking of ululating and passing out candy, it seems as if the head of the British chapter of Burn Loot Murder got shot in the head in London. Shame. Just as she was turning her life around. In any case as American Jews are now being set upon by so-called "Palestinian" sympathizers, with BLM plus much of the Democrat Party now openly openly anti-Semitic, the family of George Floyd, the waste of life criminal who expired while resisting arrest, is to be feted at the White House today on the one year anniversary of his demise. In his wildest moments of inspiration, I don't even think Paddy Chayefsky could have dreamed up a blacker black comedy than all of this. Can I still say "black comedy" or is that verboten?

Meanwhile, Rand Paul, who I am liking more and more every day got some fan mail:

The FBI has launched an investigation into a suspicious package that was sent to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Monday that contained a white powder and a message threatening violence.

The package was reportedly a "large envelope" that was sent to Paul's home in Kentucky from an unknown sender. Outside the envelope was a photo of a beaten-up Paul with what Fox News said was "a gun to his head" and included the message: "I'll finish what your neighbor started you motherf***er."

Fay, washed-up warbler Richard Marx, no doubt named after Karl and not Groucho, has lots of time on his hands.

On Sunday, pop singer Richard Marx, who has taken aim at former President Trump in the past, targeted Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) by citing Paul's neighbor who brutally attacked him, tweeting, "I'll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul's neighbor I'm going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume."

After Marx... was criticized for the post, he responded, "You see, Johnny-Bob... unlike your hero/fuhrer now residing down at MaraLoco, I never incited nor even suggested anyone be violent. Certainly not towards the traitor known as Rand Paul. I'm just saying that the fact someone slugged him doesn't break my heart."

Ah, the old Stormtrooper-nose on, Stormtrooper-nose off routine. Very clever, Dickie. You should only wind up in front of some "Palestinian" protesters who want to know if you're Jewish. If they kicked the shit out of you and put you in traction, it doesn't mean I'm inciting it. It just means it wouldn't break my heart.

NOTE: The opinions expressed in some links may or may not reflect my own. I include them because of their relevance to the discussion of a particular issue.

47 Nobody paying much attention to that John Sullivan POS getting $90k seized and charged with eight criminal counts of who knows what. Haven't seen a follow up. Another story that is going to slide under the radar. Pretty obvious the deep state(maybe FBI?) is covering its ass with this Jan. 6 Insurrection investigation. They deep six'd that kids videos wearing the MAGA hat and bragging how he and some chick he was talking to in the video successfully got people to "storm" the state building. Kinda hard to have people from Jan.6 still locked up and conduct some BS investigation with one of the main protagonists is running free that you let go to begin with, with video evidence that some of us have not forgot. Especially his recording of Ashli Babbitt getting smoked.
MisHum mentioned it in the ONT Sat or Sun night but the story was more about the feds seizing the $90k than who that SOB was.

Oh, this is true as far as the academics - that is, the useful idiots - are concerned. They hate America as superpower and think it's an evil force. Like all useful idiots, they'll be lined up against the wall when they're no longer useful.

Yet I suspect there are different motivations for the power class like Biden's family and Pelosi and Clinton and the like. Their motivations are the same as they always were: power and money. This group *adores* America as superpower. They can use its intelligence apparatus as a means to increase their personal power and control. They can use its vastness - geographic, economic and military - to loot at a scale heretofore unimaginable.

They are doing precisely this. They are looting power, wealth and, crucially, legitimacy - unabated until they hollow it out, which won't take long. Then only power remains. That is when they line the useful idiots up and put us in camps.

Yeah, this study concerns me since my teen son had a really bad case of the flu in early Feb 2020 and we've assumed it was covid. Apparently a bad flue affected a lot of students on campus. Add to it that he has a heart defect. Unfortunately, CHOP (usually a good resource for us), where he had one of his heart surgeries, is at this point still recommending getting the vaccine.

88 As always, you see the difference between the American Left and the classical totalitarians in Russia and Europe. They forced a plane down to kidnap a journalist and throw him in a dark hole. This is like when the FSB sent a burly "nurse" into the crowd to drug and drag away a woman shouting at the admiralty during the Kursk incident.

They're heavy-handed. Our totalitarians behave differently, with tactics learned not from Russia but from (and co-developed with) China. Our dissident journalists - and we have a few - are simply marginalized, delegitimized, vilified, deplatformed and discredited. Then they are watched to see who didn't get the memo. The Russians and their group take the direct approach to use the victims as chilling object lessons. Ours use social pressure to use the victims as chilling object lessons and accumulate more data on individuals who might prove to be ... problematic in the future.

This is how foreign aid always works, and why I am opposed to it. Foreign aid does two things:
1. Perpetuates the conditions that led to the need for foreign aid.
2. Turns the receiving country in a money laundry to kick back sovereign wealth or debt into the pockets of the architects.

And that is it. Nothing more or less, ever. *Acute* foreign aid (disaster relief such as famine or tsunami response) can sometimes be justified. Chronic foreign aid cannot be, ever. It is a machine of theft and corruption unparalleled in scale or scope. Ukraine is likely the prime example, followed quickly by Iran.

Yes. About three weeks ago (in my area), the dam broke. I have posted before that I thought we were in the midst of a preference cascade, but wasn't sure where we were on the curve but that we were either just before or just after the inflection point (the knee of the curve).

We're now firmly past the inflection point. Timing the change of guidance before the situation became untenable is the most competent thing the CDC has done in many years. The nailed the timing of the guidance change to happen right at - if not just before - the inflection point before they lost control. They timed it well enough that they can pretend to lead the shift instead of following it (which they were actually doing).

Sadly, this is going to work. The CDC has probably increased its institutional credibility dramatically in the past few weeks through this move.

I doubt it. How many people do you know that test their own assumptions - and maybe change them based upon real feedback ? I know very, very few.

We'd like to think that successful people get there by starting off with a good boat and then steering accordingly. But I've rarely seen it happen that way. Most people start with a boat - some better than others. They then lash the rudder in place, shove off, and then something happens. Luck favors some. Having a better boat helps. When currents change - most people have no way to change direction.

Yes, the proportional figures don't look big, but consider what California *is* and how the migratory flows work and it starts to become clear why it's such a problem.

Much of CA's inflow population is illegal, and the rest comes from a broad spectrum of states. Their outflow does *not* go to a broad spectrum of states, however. It largely goes to Arizona, Texas and Colorado and six figures here and six figures there makes a huge difference in a place like Colorado, which has been ruined.

And it makes perfect sense. The migratory outflow will result in CA losing an electoral vote or two, and that will continue for the foreseeable future. But it doesn't matter. CO picked one up. CO also became a blue state courtesy of the Front Range and pop concentration in the Denver area. So CA lost one EV - and the communists picked up *10* in CO (post-census). That's a helluvan ROI.

This is basic middle school level science that people in 7th grade and up should intuitively know.

I don't think anyone on the other side of the aisle distinguished themselves in reaction. It's a blood sport to them and "our side" should stop pretending otherwise.

210 It's shocking and disturbing that the same universities that teach remedial and 101 level biology/science classes are doing this.

This is basic middle school level science that people in 7th grade and up should intuitively know.

We're at year zero again. Everything we'd learned and established over the last 400 years of science and viruses and epidemiology has been thrown out the window. It's terrifying.

Industrialization correlates with declining birth rate. There are likely a number of reasons for this Likely factors include:
Infant mortality collapses in industrial civilizations, so the need for a lot of children as insurance against many of them dying goes down. Child labor is not only non-essential, it is often forbidden. In agricultural societies, you need children to start working the farm early - usually by age five or so in small jobs. This isn't true in the industrial world. Children are also expensive in industrial civilizations, partly because they can't work but also because they need a lot more stuff in the modern world than in the primitive one. There are likely also purely social factors - such as the fact that more people in industrial societies are depressed or despondent and unhappy. Industrial societies also tend to have liberal marriage and family law, which has consequences on reproduction.

Complicated. No one really knows.

222 Got to see Rush on what turned out to be their final tour. I almost didn't go, but glad I did. Something told me it might be the last go-round. That was the "reverse time-machine" tour where the roadies changed the stage setup and the Ged and Alex changed axes to match the times as the setlist moved backwards from 00's to 70's. So cool!

For the encore, they had paisley-painted guitars and the stage was made to look like a high school gym, complete with b-ball hoop, to mirror their beginnings.

Saw them on that tour in Philly. The 'reverse-o-matic" tour through their catalog (and stage setups) was a cool concept. They are my favorite band ever, and I listen to "unofficial" recordings from them quite often.

This matches to some degree what I see. Of the people I see who *are* masked, the average age is much younger than you might expect (if we assume that masking is effective).

I may have an explanation. It came directly from my mother's mouth:
"They say all this shit, all these things they're doing and ruining everything is to 'save granny.' Well you know what? I *am* 'granny' and I am horrified that they are doing this in my name. I'm old. I'm not going to live what's left of my life in fear and in hiding. If I die, I die. I'd rather not die surrounded by ruins."

Welcome to Europe. I took a business trip to Ireland back in 2016. Two weeks there for work, and I took a third to be a tourist. I was talking with a colleague in the office and he asked me where I was going and what I was doing. We talked about it and he saw that Limerick was on my list.

He looked at me like I was insane. He said, "why the hell are you going to Limerick?" I mentioned that it was in the middle of the country, looked really convenient and it was a big place that I figured was worth seeing.

He leaned over the table and said in hushed tones, "It only looks that way. Don't go to Limerick." He looked over both shoulders and continued, complete with a jabbing motion with his hand and arm, "We call it 'stab city.'"

I took his advice.

313 Re Churchill and Chamberlain,
Chamberlain undoubtedly prefered Halifax to Churchill as his successor as PM but did have significant relationships with Churchill. Churchill was friends with Neville's half brother Austen and was a colleague of Neville's father Joseph. It is too much to say that Neville and Churchill were friends but the issues that divided them were public policy oriented rather than personality.

Until Chamberlain's death from cancer in 1940 six months after his PM resignation, he was Lord President of the Council and head of the Conservative party. Churchill visited him at home while to brief Chamberlain who was too ill to attend meetings and gave a stirring eulogy after his death. Regardless of the public political enmity, both Churchill and Chamberlain knew each other well from previous service in Cabinet. What divided them was more matters of public policy, such as Edward's resignation as king, creating Dominion status for India, and Britain's policy toward Germany. In each of these major issues, Churchill took a stance that was unpopular with the Conservatives which gave Baldwin and Chamberlain ample support to keep Churchill out of office.

324 Not just the Twilight Zone, Joe Mannix.

The original was a black & white Hammer film IIRC that had three horror stories in it with the man dressed in black turning out to be the ticket-taker in a crowded double-decker bus that crashes off a bridge.

And I can't recall the background but Bob Newhart as Dr Robert Hartley was going to get onto the floor's lobby elevator; the door opens and it's packed except for one last spot; and a man dressed like a working cowboy, and not a dimestore one, all in black with his cowboy hat pulled down low so you can barely see his eyes says in a very deep voice, "There's room for one more" that sees Bob decline too!

Not Bob's only elevator joke. In another one, he gets on the elevator with a tough-looking black dude who's got a small white dog on a leash with him. The black guy says, "Sit, Whitey" and Bob squats down immediately thinking the order was directed at him and not the dog. Richard Pryor recycled it for his standup act.

339 Lots of news at casa blaster. First, we officially closed yesterday on 100+ acres of property in NW Florida just a hop and a skip from the Gulf. This makes Ron DeSantis one of my governors. And I have made my peace with the Lorax and am hoping to sell some timber off of it. Whoa momma stay up!

Second, our venerable minivan just got sent off to Kars 4 Kids. (Zod, how does that song go again?) Thus ends a chapter of our life. All the kids who live with us have their own wheels.

The kids are all trending toward becoming functioning humans, which a year ago I would not have placed money on. The eldest emerged from the basement, got a job, and he likes it. The girls are starting to hit on all cylinders.

God is good. Hard to remember sometimes in the DOOM threads. But He is.

Yup. I suspect a lot of it is synthesizing things in nearly real-time. You can't form a conclusion yet, but your brain is telling you to do *something* fast and figure it out later. Another example from my life (one I don't regret, because it ended okay) was when I got into a car accident. It was late at night, dark and I was going down the highway at 50 mph (the speed limit). I said to myself, "It's really dark. I should slow down. I could hit an elk."

Less than a second later, WHAMO - I smashed into an elk. I am sure the I saw the damn thing, it just didn't exactly register and the danger manifested as a general admonishment to change my behavior rather than an acute "STOP! NOW!"

The car did it's job, though. I pulled off the road, brushed the lap full of glass I had picked up, checked the wheels, and drove home at low speed and called the insurance company and wrecker the next day.

He didn't need to pressure anyone over Belarus. There was nothing going on to require it. And this time he and Wictor are casting Pence and Rahm Emanuel as the heroes. It's pathetic, I wonder how he keeps his gig at ET?

I met the breeder I got my Airedale, Teddy, from on Facebook. She's as MAGA as you can get but stays on Zuckerberg to stay in touch with clients and she's very active in rescue groups and shelters.

I despise Facebook and don't use it except for the direct messaging to some people. I know Zuck datamines the fuck out of people there but I doubt that my limited presence does much positive for him. If anyone believes otherwise I'm open to be persuaded.

If you're going to use it, at least use a different browser exclusively for it. Tracking cookies are extremely powerful. When you log in, you get a cookie. That cookie has an identifier. When you visit websites with social media buttons (virtually all sites have them now), those also have an identifier. It is trivial to pair those up. You might do next to nothing on Facebook, but all of those sites you visit that interact with Facebook via social media button (like the ubiquitous "like" and "retweet" buttons) allow them to build a very comprehensive profile indeed. This also applies if you don't use Facebook at all. They probably know who you are anyway courtesy of those social media buttons, and they have a fairly complete profile even if they don't know your name.

415 Maybe Captn Obvious but I think I figured out why CDC is so reluctant (lying) in refusing to acknowledge that the prior Covid infected don't need the jab.

It's because if they acknowledge this, then all the fascist Governors will have to give up their BS metric to "re open" according to what % are "vaccinated." And of course they don't want to do that because they want to set it up so the vaccinated can BLAME THE TRUMPY ANTI VAXXERS for holding them hostage.

And, if the CDC now admits that prior infection is as good (or better) than vaccination, it will also have to admit that it also lagged in allowing the prior infected to go maskless, as they recently "found out" about the vaccinated.

So basically they're trapped by their prior lies and overreach and I'm not expecting a quick revision any time soon.

416 190 Great story about epochal fertility declines across the developed world. I bet these trends don't exist in the poorest countries.

417 377 You know there was a US soldier stationed in Germany in the fifties that was court martialled for fucking a chicken. He took one too many liberties with a German chicken and the German's were outraged by the offense. No shit, the guy served time in Leavenworth for fucking a chicken.

423 Very clever, Dickie. You should only wind up in front of some
"Palestinian" protesters who want to know if you're Jewish. If they
kicked the shit out of you and put you in traction, it doesn't mean I'm
inciting it. It just means it wouldn't break my heart.

424 1) I never heard of Richard Marx before.

2) It will be a while before I trust Rand Paul, even when he's sounding good verbally berating jackasses. Thought he was decent enough before 1/6. That being said, anyone who threatens people as he is being threatened should rot, and I don't mean in jail.

3) This covidian shit has made me an anti-vaxxer. Especially after finding out how many vaxxes they're making kids get not. Enough is enough.

4) I don't know where we're going, but I have an overwhelming gut instinct to move out of my current state. Been looking for a few years and 2020 made the urge heavier. 2021 is making the urge unbearable. The worst part is waffling back and forth between options. Some places are completely out, but there are two that have almost equal pull.
