The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. I'm positive that a doer makes mistakes. John Wooden

Quote II

Folks, I believe that love is the answer. But, you oughta own a handgun just in case.Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)

Quote III

"They are depressed. They are they're not eating. They're crying themselves to sleep. Hope Jay parent of whiny students

A teachable moment, actions, reactions, yadda, yadda. Life isn't fair.

Quote IV

“But I do think that’s another issue that has been brought to bear. When you de-platform the President of the United States but you let Ayatollah Khomeini talk about killing Jews, that is wrong.” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL)

When you hear the term "Tragic Mistake" what do you think of? Me? Something unavoidable that ended badly. Amputating the wrong fucking leg is not a tragic mistake.

An Austrian hospital amputated the wrong leg of a patient, it said on Thursday, blaming human error for what it called a “tragic mistake”.

The elderly patient was suffering from many illnesses, the Freistadt Clinic, in a town of the same name near the Czech border, said in a statement. Previous sicknesses have affected his legs, to the point that his left leg required amputation.

“We are deeply shocked that on Tuesday, 18 May, despite quality assurance standards, the wrong leg of an 82-year-old man … was amputated,” the clinic said, adding that the mistake was first noticed during a bandage change on Thursday morning.

“We have to find out how this failure, this mistake could happen. I would like to apologise publicly here,” the clinic’s medical director, Norbert Fritsch, said at a news conference.

SENATE PREPARING $10 BILLION BAILOUT FUND FOR JEFF BEZOS SPACE FIRM
Bezos’s Blue Origin lost its bid for a major NASA contract to Elon Musk, but the Senate is ordering the agency to give a second one

NOW THAT Jeff Bezos’s space flight company Blue Origin has lost a multibillion contract to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Congress is prepping the ground for Bezos to win a contract anyway, ordering NASA to make not one but two awards.

The order would come through the Endless Frontier Act, a bill to beef up resources for science and technology research that’s being debated on the Senate floor this week. An amendment was added to that legislation by Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., to hand over $10 billion to NASA — money that most likely would go to Blue Origin, a company that’s headquartered in Cantwell’s home state.

Cantwell’s amendment is no sure bet though: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., introduced a last-minute amendment Monday to eliminate the $10 billion. “It does not make a lot of sense to me that we would provide billions of dollars to a company owned by the wealthiest guy in America,” Sanders told The Intercept Tuesday.

In the meantime, Bernie Sanders is like a blind pig. The pig does find an acorn every once in a while.

Just what in the hell is wrong with Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine (D)?

Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine (D) filed an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon Tuesday, alleging that the e-commerce giant has unfairly raised prices and hurt innovation.

The lawsuit filed in D.C. Superior Court claims that Amazon has engaged in anti-competitive business practices including not allowing third-party sellers to offer their products at lower prices elsewhere and imposing excessive fees.

The suit alleges that those practices have passed on fees to consumers in the form of higher prices, prevents other platforms from competing and takes away choices from consumers.

“Amazon has used its dominant position in the online retail market to win at all costs," Racine said in a statement. “It maximizes its profits at the expense of third-party sellers and consumers, while harming competition, stifling innovation, and illegally tilting the playing field in its favor."

Uncle Paste Eater sun-setting. It looks like it is time to up the dose of Rivastigmine.

She must be working for a different Resident of The White House than the Past Eater.

Go about your business, America. Everything is fine at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington.

In fact, it’s more than fine. It’s better than great. The president of the United States isn’t a feeble man who struggles with words, thoughts and stairs. He’s a man of vigor, and there’s nothing at all to fret about.

President Joe Biden is so vigorous that not even people who are a fraction of his age can keep up with him — or so says White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

I guess the White House correspondents enjoy the feel of piss down their backs.

Over the years I have watched a number of 'Cops' episodes. I never saw any episodes with the following: Houston Cops ‘Molested’ Female Deputies During Undercover Stings, Forced One to Be ‘Penetrated in Both Her Vagina and Anus’ by ‘Known Rapist’: Lawsuit

Former and current female law enforcement officers in Texas were sexually harassed, kissed, fondled by and assaulted under the direction of their supervisors during sex work-related sting operations, a lawsuit filed in federal court on Monday alleges.

Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen allegedly signed off on those vice squad style efforts led by Assistant Chief Chris Gore.

According to the lawsuit, these efforts were “bachelor party” stings replete with alcohol where officers would quickly nab men who were convinced to pay for sex by undercover female cops and women who were offered money for sex by undercover male cops.

Those attempts to secure solicitation charges were little more than a pretext to prey on the women involved, the plaintiffs say.

“[Y]oung female deputies [who] were handpicked for ‘undercover operations’ under the guise of legitimate police work were molested and traumatized by their intoxicated male commanding officers for their own sexual gratification,” the lawsuit alleges. “What began as an idea for ‘bachelor party’ prostitution stings soon grew into a booze-fueled playground for sexual exploitation in which young, untrained deputies were subject to disgusting abuse.”

I don't care if she cut her tits breasts off. She's still a woman.

Back in December, Canadian actress Ellen Page announced she was transgender, identifies as a male, and wanted to be called “Elliot Page” henceforth.

The media fell all over themselves to celebrate her “coming out” as a transgender, after having previously come out as a lesbian, and before coming out as a talented actress. Her IMDB and Wikipedia pages were quickly updated to reflect this new identity she had chosen for herself. It felt like a nightmare right out of Orwell’s 1984, with Page’s female status being thrown down the memory hole, as if we are supposed to forget her extensive filmography as a female actress playing female characters. Though, who knows if George Lucas will handle the special edition versions of her films to erase her female identity.

The sane and rational world shakes its collective head at Minnehopelis. But, still finds time to LOL!

SHOTS FIRED
This morning there was a street festival at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis, a place generally avoided by the police. The Associated Press anticipated the event:

The intersection where George Floyd took his final breaths is to be transformed Tuesday into an outdoor festival on the anniversary of his death, with food, children’s activities and a long list of musical performers.

But the festivities were rudely interrupted:

Quick rough footage of the moment we heard shots fired at George Floyd Square. We counted 30 upon looking back at the footage. pic.twitter.com/oxGkLQru9Q

— Philip Crowther (@PhilipinDC) May 25, 2021

This one is a classic. The woman in the studio is stunned as her reporter disappears from the screen, but she soldiers on with more talk about police reform:

You know what has happened since George Floyd passed? He hasn't committed any crimes.

The Hodge Twins examine Minnehopelis and the Floyd OD.

Anger management issues and domestic relations = Genius Award Winner.

MAY 24--A Florida Woman battered her boyfriend with “soiled dog pads” during a late-night confrontation that also included the victim getting sprayed in the face with Windex, according to police.

Investigators say that Ann Walsh, 60, attacked her 64-year-old beau inside the couple’s Clearwater apartment Thursday evening. Walsh, seen at right, was arrested for domestic battery and booked into the county jail, where she remains locked up in lieu of $5000 bond.

As detailed in an arrest affidavit, Walsh engaged in a “physical altercation” with the victim while he sat on their couch. The retiree, cops allege, “took soiled dog pads and threw them at the victim.”

During a post-arrest interview, Walsh reportedly copped to also spraying her boyfriend in the face with Windex.

A judge has ordered Walsh to have no contact with the victim, who apparently was not injured during the dog pad incident.

Walsh’s rap sheet includes several prior domestic battery arrests, all of which involve the man identified as the victim in the alleged May 20 attack. Walsh, however, was not convicted in any of the earlier cases. (1 page)

Part of me is still in denial. We will never go back to normal. Birthday candles meet a new extinguisher. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day?

May 25 (UPI) -- A Virginia man said his free time during the COVID-19 pandemic allowed him time to work on an invention that coincidentally involved stopping germs -- a device that allows birthday candles to be blown out without spittle flying.

Mark Apelt, 44, a University of Virginia graduate and a current resident of Richmond, said he came up with the idea for the Blowzee birthday cake candle extinguisher while at a child's birthday party before the pandemic.

This is false. Now that we have YouTube, you can watch ten videos on any endeavor, and then get it perfect the first time.

Well Wooden was basketball, so that is different, but watching specific videos on say, changing our a starter on an old Camry ... can make the first time job nearly perfect. ...

But indeed, fear of failure CAN lead to people doing nothing ... and yet, we have a couple generations trained to to nothing but play the victim card, and hope someone takes care of them. "I need my space space, and someone to change my tire".

I said "None of your business." She gave me a straight-up coldblooded stare and said "I'm going to find it."

I think my mom found a candy that she liked, but children hated, and she just bought that.

107 Amputating the wrong fucking leg is not a tragic mistake.

When I had my cataract surgeries, it seemed like every 5 or 10 minutes someone would come along and repeat, "we doing (technical name for cataract surgery) on you left eye today, right?". Each time they would also check the chart on the gurney and check my wristband. When the surgeon repeated it, he then took out his Sharpie and made a mark over my left eye, to further insure that he didn't do the wrong eye. Sounds like the Austrian doctor needs a Sharpie.

Not possible. The "belly" of her ab muscles would make a IFBB professional body builder jealous with envy. Doesn't make sense that she'd be blasting her abs on test and not see any growth elsewhere even from something like ab exercises. She couldn't be on test which is a steroid and eat enough to support them blasted abs nutritionally and be so damn skinny, borderline emaciated. She would gain weight but not necessarily muscle if she was on test.

If they are implants I'm going to look into and ab implant tomorrow so I never have to do another leg raise or sit up again. I f'ing hate ab exercises.

The GOPe will run their approved stooge in the primaries against this rino just to cover their butts. Then Rubio "wins' the primaries and continues the 'move to the center' bs. As if he was ever anything but a squish. Thing is the dems will not vote for any Republican and there are no in betweens anymore in Florida. You are either going to vote Republican or Democrat regardless of how much you agree or disagree with the candidate of your party.

I wish Trump would field and support a better candidate than this maggot! No Republican in my family will vote for him. We vote in every election but I will not vote for this traitor.

We have watched each click of the ratchet, as mindless pod people tell us that each new change isn't really happening, it's a crazy conspiracy, and also it's good that it's happening.

Progressives feel a salacious thrill when they imagine what common, ordinary things will be prohibited in the future. This is the sacrifice that the god "progress" demands - each generation gives up a slice of humanity - and they call this "humane"

I was just watching a Tucker clip, and he dropped something I'd never heard before.

He got something that Thai intelligence warned us, the US govt, about some incident at the Wuhan lab, back when all this got started.

So apparently intrepid ladyboy spies working under deep cover in Wuhan learned of the leak of a high contagious virus and warned their government, which in turn warned ours (and a bunch of other govts as well).

If true, Fauxci would've been in the loop on that, and thus knew this came from the Wuhan lab from the get-go.

315 "Amazon has used its dominant position in the online retail market to win at all costs," Racine said in a statement. "It maximizes its profits at the expense of third-party sellers and consumers, while harming competition, stifling innovation, and illegally tilting the playing field in its favor."

I'm Amazon Prime subscriber and Amazon, by far is the easiest way to get products. But, Walmart, GovX and many others are pretty good in the game too.

What hurts smaller retailers the most is managing the regional sales taxes, the other is in negotiating volume discounts and preferred shipping rates and priority.

Amazon also has 'bots to bring down costs.

365 Sigh. And the sad thing is, that if you knew Page's friends and family, I bet you could find the man/boy who looks like this, and whom Page actually has a giant unrequited crush on.

I mean, I've known all of two people who did surgical transitions; but both of them got plastic surgery, and started wearing outfits, that were exactly like a person of the biologically opposite sex whom they knew and had a thing for. They even tried to talk like the person, with varying levels of success.

This made both of the loved/desired persons turn rather distant (unsurprisingly, because it was so so creepy and cringey), and one even ended up marrying somebody else who lived in a foreign country. Who was not terribly attractive, compared to the original looks of this person who went trans, but who was a stable person who made a good home for the person being crushed on and imitated. Getting out was a good move.

One of the big factors in ADE are "binding" antibodies vs. neutralizing antibodies. The binding ones are sort of near miss by the immune system. They can bind to the pathogen, but fail to stop it from infecting. The neutralizing one do, neutralizing the pathogen.

The binding ones are implicated in ADE by some process where they make it much easier for the virus (or whatever) they've bound to to get into cells.

Now, all the vaccines, the mRNA ones vs the others, cause you to produce antibodies against the spike protein, not the whole virus. And guess what, vaccines produce an insanely high percentage of binding types. It's so much that the dose of the vaccine has to be high enough to generate enough of the neutralizing antibodies at the expense of a whole bunch of binding ones.

Natural infection with Covid doesn't give you this mix, you get more neutralizing. It's possible to detect natural vs vaccine antibodies in someone via this difference.

Well ... OK. That's a matter of faith. Can't argue with that, but it isn't something that can be "proved" as such.

Sometimes I'll hear people use a secular version of that, I suppose - "We don't live in a perfect world". Usually in response to some easily (or perhaps simply would be a much better way to put it) solvable issue.

Nobody is asking for perfection! In fact "pretty good" is achievable, and it is not necessary in any way to settle for "Total Fucking Dumpster Fire".

What is infuriating, while the World has some real problems, so much or even most of our problems our simply unforced errors. We can't afford those, resources are not unlimited, and we're wasting time and huge sums of money we don't have trying to "solve" silly stupid dumb shit.

386 Well, I am kind of pissed off right now. I have a Little Giant model PP 1 pump, which I have had for years. It's an electric pump, with garden hose fittings on both inlet and outlet. Went to use it the other day, and the impeller failed. Rubber impeller. And the "cam" or liner to the volute, is also damaged.

Well, that model has been discontinued, and parts are no longer available. It was only about 20 years old, too.

How long since a clean reboot? You can go into task manage and start killing this shit, but the easiest is a clean restart (not fast, not sleep, but a real reboot).

If Steam is open on the screen then it is using some CPU in task manager. However once its closed CPU usage drops to zero, but more instances of the WebHelper appear. Reopen Steam and those extra instances vanish.

Linux has some good uptime runs, especially in some very tight applications. OpenWRT, which I run on the routers, uses Linux, optimized for routers, and I've let that thing go for months. Uptime is only 15 days now because of a power outage.

I've got it, the cable modem and the switches on a UPS. When the power went out, I shut down the computer, and it would've gone maybe 90 minutes running the network and modems, which includes Charter's phone.

But I shut it down after an hour (after using the phone). The UPS fan kicked on -- battery drain current started heating it up, and I didn't want to completely drain the battery.

438 I think Newport News Ship does the carriers, and is the 2nd yard for nuke subs (well, all subs). The shrinking (disappearing, actually) industrial base for shipbuilding was an intense concern for the Navy way back in the mid-80s. Was intimately familiar with the situation.

Kind of a general dilemma for a small, very capital-intensive military. Just not enough demand to sustain a truly competitive industrial base.

Meanwhile, completely separate topic, the shipbuilding decision-making of the Navy ..... wow. One historic epic boondoggle after another. Really no precedent in the modern history of US military procurement - and for most of that history, there was a large industrial base, lots of options, a large diverse force with lots of platforms, and the disasters were generally not consequential.

Hardware problems can cause all sorts of crazy behavior before obvious hardware failure. The high CPU could be the result of that.

A bad memory stick and a failing hard drive have cause me all sorts of consternation wondering what the hell is wrong. Low level memory tests don't find a problem some times. One like that drove me nuts. In desperation, I replaced the memory (with more). That was the problem.

Oh, so ya got not one, but TWO intravenous doses of experimental chemical? Well, um, good for you?

Wonder what the next 3 to 5 years will show...

Nope. Faucci bound to a rigid chair. 'Puter screen in front of him. He has to watch, while one by one, every asset he's ever amassed is removed from his account, to actual charities, hospitals, Frontline Physicians Group, other real charities, and etc.

As well as the trickle down accounts he has set up for his adult children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Not their fault, but fruit of the poisoned tree, and all that. Take every illicit nickel and penny he's ever earned. Leave only the Govt. Salary computations, which will be but a fraction of the whole.

This is how you BREAK a Faucci. Guar-an-damn-tee-ya.

Looks like I'm a bit too late, but might as well chip in. Viruses aren't typically the issue unless you're running files obtained from sketchy sites.

Most games only fully utilize 1-2 threads no matter how many cores the cpu is, if you're running the newest stuff on not the newest hardware, maxing out the cpu isn't unreasonable.

Browsers can be resource hogs if you have absurd amounts of tabs open, but it sounds more like one of the processes was hanging and not freeing up resources correctly. Try killing any single browser process if it seems to be using way more resources than any other or disabling extensions and restarting it.

I've had all sorts of vaccines myself. Just about everything for someone in my age group (54), plus more than few others. Last was the pneumonia vaccine before my knee surgery.

Here is something to be keenly aware of. Being skeptical/against the Covid vaccine is not the same as being anti-vaccine in general. This is something the powers that be want to conflate. If you're against this, you're one of 'em antivax nuts like Jenny McCarthy. They will highlight examples of the craziest nutjobs out there, making ridiculous claims about the Covid vaccine (it's got a microchip in it! stuff like that).

This is a very effective disinformation tactic, especially among low-information type idiots out there.

Workers left two very heavy, tall cabinets outside of the register area. I needed to open a drawer and it tipped onto me and started to cause a domino effect with me caught inbetween! They had left the small skids on wheels under that one, (unnoticed by me) which made it unstable.

542 Conflating unlike things, or comparing apples to oranges is leftist or unscrupulous stock in trade. They do it all the time, and many people, particularly young people just don't have the chops or experience really to recognize it, it takes education. A classic example - if one is against illegal migration, they put words in your mouth, and claim you hate immigrants, and ordered legal immigration. They just keep doing it anyway (see: Republicans) and after 20 or 30 or 40 million, it becomes a moot point.

We went from Teddy "The Swimmer" Kennedy claiming the 1965 Immigration Act "won't change the ethnic background of this country" to his political heirs now asserting "We shouldn't have any borders at all".
