The Morning Report - 5/17/21

Joematches.jpg

Good morning kids. Start of a new week and the nightmare at home and abroad continues. Starting with Israel, the IDF continues pulverizing Iran's proxy terrorist army in Gaza going above and beyond every reasonable measure to prevent the loss of innocent lives (for your definition of the word "innocent") despite the fact that it has been standard tactical policy of Hamas to use innocent civilians as human shields or store weapons caches in residential buildings. Naturally, the Leftists and their propagandists continue pumping out lies shouting just the opposite.

Unfortunately, Israel is in a no-win situation. This is a war with a genocidal, maniacal aggressor that would wipe Israel off the map if it had the chance and the capability. It certainly is at a level of inflicting serious damage, perhaps more than at any time in the past, and that capability is only going to grow over time, especially since Iran is now unchecked. Yet Israel, while it no doubt is making the rubble bounce - yet again - will, after a period of time, be forced to declare "mission accomplished" pull back and let this existential enemy regroup, rebuild and re-arm for another round of this some time in the future. And the money will be flowing in from Europe and sadly this country's illegal, amoral and insane junta because, "peace process!"

The most alarming aspect of this current situation is that Israeli Arabs within the country itself are attacking their fellow citizens, who are dictionary definition "innocent" with the cherry on the parfait of torching synagogues. This is something that has not been seen since 1948, and while perhaps not necessarily surprising is, to me, a shocking development. None of this would be happening had President Trump not been ousted in a coup and stolen election last November. Thanks to him, Iran was on the brink of collapse and probably would not have lasted another four years. But of course, that point is moot.

So the question is, has the political landscape in the Middle East changed enough due to the Abraham Accords and the mortal threat Iran poses to its Sunni cousins/nemesis on the other side of the Gulf that the so-called "Palestinians" will not be a factor should Israel not hold back this time and retake Gaza? More crucially, since Iran is the cause of all this, will Israel and its new allies (for your definition of that word in this case) strike at the head, and if so, do they have the ability to finally collapse the regime? Or will that just stir up a hornets nest of Sunni- and Jew-hate and give the imprisoned Iranian people reason to defend a regime that has kept them enslaved for over 40 years now? With the Kalorama Kommie Konspirators now running things here, and Iran's centrifuges spinning faster than Dead or Alive played at 78RPM, the die may already have been cast.

Before leaving this topic, I highly recommend reading and bookmarking David Horowitz's extensive history in order that you may educate any brainwashed people you may encounter.

Now to the war at home where surprise surprise! The DC Police, in whole or at least in part were conspirators in the "riot" portion of the so-called "insurrection." Video has surfaced courtesy of Julie Kelly that shows cops putting out the red carpet for that poor man's Cloud William in the buffalo hat and his group of phony MAGAns to just waltz right in to the Capitol. And if you blinked, you missed the FBI finally admitting that rabid leftist Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson, who almost assassinated a group of unarmed Republicans on a softball field four years ago and reclassified him as a "domestic violent extremist."

The FBI has classified the 2017 congressional baseball shooter a "domestic violent extremist," doing away with the "suicide-by-cop" theory many victims or witnesses said was unrealistic. The reclassification came after survivors pressured Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) to change the initial classification he made when meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray... .

..House Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was severely wounded in the shooting and almost died, as well as Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods and a coach for the Republican team.

Both Scalise and Mika condemned the classification when it went public, but survivors learned of the classification in a private FBI briefing months after the shooting took place.

Yay. Four years later and with Dick Durbin still held unaccountable about what he knew and when he knew it about Hodgkinson, who had been in close contact with Durbin's office leading up to the attack, the DOJ and FBI are adamant that the greatest threat to America comes from "white supremacists" and "far right extremists." They better start burning their files because even a cursory examination of them would show that the actual number of white supremacist individuals or groups compared with the population as a whole are perhaps a few thousand. Statistically insignificant. Yet BLM, Antifa, ELF, ISIS/al Qaeda affiliates? Nothing to see here, move on. But it's worse than that. The FBI and DOJ are now using the cover of white supremacy as a pretext to harass, prosecute and persecute anyone and everyone who is vocally or politically active that opposes anything Democrat/leftist. These are the same apparatchiks who attempted to set up and take down President Trump in 2016 over the phony Russia collusion smear.

Psaki-Psircling back, there are some intriguing parallels between Israel, the so-called "Palestinians" and the Middle East in general and our own internal strife, as Victor Davis Hanson points out:

...we will likely see a major Middle East war that has started with Hamas rockets, and will accelerate to internal terrorist attacks against Israel, intensifying with Hezbollah launching rockets from Lebanon and Syria, peaking with Iranian missile attacks and global terrorist missions -- all sanctioned by Russian and Chinese propaganda as the United States goes mute -- and ending when Israel goes medieval on Iran to ensure its own existence.

Is such a scenario alarmist or fantastical?

No more than concluding that printing $5 trillion in new money, while discouraging employment and production, is inflationary.

No more than assuming that halting the southern border wall, rendering immigration law inert, and stopping border enforcement all encourage illegal immigration.

No more than believing that canceling pipelines, stopping new oil and gas leases on federal lands, promising to end fossil fuels in 20 years, and warning of new taxes and regulations, discourages oil producers from gearing up to meet demand, while encouraging foreign criminal hackers to take out our ability to deliver fossil fuels.

And no more than thinking that defunding the police and skipping arrests and indictments empower the lawbreakers and spike crime.

Historians will later calibrate whether in all these policies their authors were simply incompetent, misguided, and naive, or else nihilists who equated ensuing chaos and pain as precursors to long-overdue equity and social justice.

The new American Middle East policy is an extension of the new American domestic policy. In both cases, malign naivete leads to clueless hubris that ends in catastrophe.

9 Great links, JJ, and thanks as always. I love to keep the tab open and read through them through the day.

I might be late to the game, but here's one I just learned about. The generally very reliable census on the election (which usually tends to OVER-record, not under):

"According to the Census, the recorded number of people voting in 2020 was tallied at 154,628,000. On the other hand, official results place the number of actual ballots cast slightly north of 158 million. Thats a discrepancy of nearly four million votes."

https://tinyurl.com/2vcpzsmx

Say, remember when the Chinese whistleblower posted video and audio of Chinese talking about printing up 5M counterfeit ballots to ship to the US?

https://tinyurl.com/dnrwvmj3

I'm fine with one or two oddities. Those things happen. But for literally everything to be wrong simultaneously while databases are being destroyed, recounts being bitterly fought, and the courts saying, "Nah, bruh, we cool" all at the same time, too? The odds of that happening are astronomical at best, and more than likely incalculable.

26 Also this was at the census link. I haven't confirmed the information or done the math to figure out how it could've worked:

Obama won 69 million votes & 873 counties.
Trump won 75 million votes & 2497 counties! Almost 2,500 Counties!!!
Biden won 81 million votes & only 477 counties. Does that make any sense what-so-ever?!

Other interesting entries: David Ansberry placed one IED and got 27 years; Jerry Varnell tried to detonate one inoperable vehicle borne device and got 25 years, but Cesar Sayoc's entry said he mailed out 16 IEDs (didn't mention they were inoperable) and he only got 20 years. Cesar was charged in the Southern District of NY.
Anyway, no mention of Hodkinson by name. Only the following, on page 35's table:
"An individual with a personalized violent ideology
targeted and shot Republican members of Congress at a

died as a result of engagement with law enforcement."
Also, there is an entry for a Stover, Missouri, man arrested for making threats against the President in 2015 (that would be Obama). No mention of the threats against President Trump.

Ha. It's useless and they won't change, as they don't understand the seriousness of what's happening and how they contributed by their political choices (support of violence here, voting patterns, and contributions to BLM and that ilk). They post BS online about "senseless violence...on both sides) and how they "just don't understand hate (except for republicans)".They see themselves as angels out to heal a broken world.

And no, they're not JINOS. They're rabbis, dedicated congregants, leaders in the local Jewish community. They revel in how baffled they are that this is happening. A group of the women went to Israel before the wuflu and spent most of their time "building bridges with Arab women", so they know they are "good, like minded people". Of course it was political and of course they're covering it up. In a massive way.

Compare and contrast with that sex addict loon in Atlanta who shot up the massage parlor. They were hell bent on saying it was Asian racism, right out of the gate. Even when the loon said it was his sex addiction...which is why a couple of whites were shot as well. But hey, who cares about that. Narratives must be set!

I guess it's just too much to ask for the "media" to dive into that. Screw that guy with a chainsaw. "Foxitis?" Really, Charlie? This is what you're going with? Fox is as all-in on the 'Vid and vax propaganda as its brethren. If you're an avid Fox audience member, your experience there is no different than anywhere else in this regard (and many others).

C'mon, Charlie. Just let it fly. Put your tyrant flag on the pole and let it snap in the breeze. Say what you mean. Put pen to paper (what you're paid to do, after a fashion) and call, right now, for enforced vaccination and tracking at all costs, including suspension of rights by the state. This is what you're advocating for and then rationalizing as being something that *isn't* that.

So give it a shot. Maybe you'll find it refreshing.

Certainly true, but the justice system occupies a special position. We depend on fair umpiring to keep the civic agreement going and entropy at bay. Surely true. In the hierarchy of shit you don't want to break, "law and order" is mighty near - if at the - top. It's significantly more corrosive than, say, a corrupt DMV. And if you want to fix universal corruption, you need something that isn't corrupt to do that. I don't disagree that fixing LE and the IC probably needs to happen first (though I think it's impossible), but I do think that the problem is entirely universal now.

A month ago, we were among maybe a third of people - and none of the staff - going maskless from door to booth to door.
Two weeks ago, we were among the about half of people - and about 2/3 of staff - going maskless.
On Saturday, we were among the 90% of people - and 100% of the staff - going maskless.

I haven't been in a store for a week or so (I will have to do some shopping this evening, so I'll see then) but the restaurant experience at the same place over time tells me that in my area, we're past the knee of the curve.

178 Good morning everyone. Thank you J.J.

Today is the feast day of Blessed Antonia Mesina (1919-1935) she was one of ten children born to a poor family on the island of Sardinia in Italy. On May 17, 1935, while in the forest with a friend gathering firewood, Antonia was assaulted by a teenage boy who attempted to rape her. Her friend ran for help while Antonia bravely defended herself against her attacker. The young man, unable to achieve his goal due to her continuous resistance, brutally attacked Antonia with dozens of blows with a rock. By the time help arrived, it was too late. Antonia died at the age of sixteen. The entire town accompanied her body to the site of her burial. She is considered a martyr of sexual purity, and was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1987.

Blessed Antonia Messina is the patron of rape victims.

I wonder how many people caught the flu and were just counted as Covid without a test.

Netflix can attest to the first one. Netflix's golden opportunity to turn a profit is over. They got the content for next to nothing because nobody used their service. The renewals have not been so cheap. Infrastructure costs for streaming are pretty huge, too. Streaming isn't going to be their salvation anymore than it was in the recording industry. Studios do okay - not great, but okay - on Spotify. Artists do terribly on Spotify. And music is *way* easier to collect, target and deliver than video.

And also, don't forget video games. I'm not a gamer, but I know a lot of people who have gotten more serious about it or who have gotten started with it over the past year. I suspect video games are taking a lot of the vanishing audience.

It's probably a couple of things..
- Streaming is not the revenue generator that it was imagined to be.
- Ad revenues' are in the toilet as people literally switch off all entertainment to pursue Model Ship Building and ammo reloading.
- The went to get back to their core competencies of selling shitty phone and wireless service.

==========

Their press release says something about the streaming being a distraction from their core business, so I imagine it was a combination of all of the above. They expected easy money from the streaming platform, especially during the pandemic, but it just wasn't that easy. They spent a lot on content like everyone else, their numbers were actually quite good, but it still wasn't enough for them.

The more time goes on the more I think that streaming is a giant house of cards, mostly brought on by the fact that the streaming wars are just a wildly expensive fight to have. Something's going to crash at some point.

No way. One of the smaller general-purpose outfits like CBSViacom's Paramount+ or Discovery's Discovery+ or AT&T's offerings (now part of Discovery, apparently) will likely be first. The big players like Netflix, Amazon and Disney will hold on, likely with Netflix failing first among the majors because streaming is their only business. As the survivors hoover up displaced market share, their losses will mount ("make it up on volume" only works if you're actually making something per unit...) until they gracefully exit.

The future in streaming is, I suspect, in niche markets. Foreign stuff, for example (Viki and Britbox will likely make it because there's a firm audience and high unit prices). New niche players may well come in the next five or ten years - the "comedy" niche or the "police procedural" niche, possibly with discount structures for streaming versions of normal OTA television services (that model of live TV streaming may survive better than catalogue streaming, but it's also bound at the hip to the overall TV industry in a way that the catalogue services aren't).

The biggest problem with streaming is the disaggregation [sic] of content.

There are MULTIPLE medications out there that have shown effective against Covid. The fact that Dr's are NOT giving patients these drugs should be a violation of their Hippocratic Oath and they should be sued to oblivion. This is ridiculous. People are still dying from something that has been shown to be curable quite easily.

If the market becomes dominated by the niche (*increasing* disaggregation), I suspect a ton of people will have 1-3 services, but they will rapidly shift over time. I may subscribe to the "British" niche and the "Comedy" niche for a few months until I tire of one or the other, then drop one and replace it with something else like the "Drama" niche.

I suspect total subscriptions will remain fairly stable but the internal movements across services will be quite high. The smart ones will offer a discount for annual billing (8 bucks a month or 85 bucks a year, for example) because if you cycle through services you're likely to come *back* to one you used before. So with an annual discount, they'll be more likely to hold on to that subscriber, even when he goes dormant for 3-6 months. In the worst case, he doesn't renew his annual but you still got revenue for his period of disuse.

279 The future in streaming is, I suspect, in niche markets.

282 The more time goes on the more I think that streaming is a giant house of cards, mostly brought on by the fact that the streaming wars are just a wildly expensive fight to have. Something's going to crash at some point.

I don't have a television, haven't had one for over a decade. Amazon Prime has some streaming, so as a Tom Clancy fan decided to check-out "Without Remorse", probably one of TC's best books.

They absolutely ruined it. It was comprehensively horrible with Wokeism, horrible dialog, F'd up "plot" (if you could detect one), its like Millennials who never even held a weapon imagined what a spec-ops team and activities would be, and so on...

That is why streaming dies. I would rather watch increasingly more professionalized YTbers and their channels than this dreck coming out of Wokewood.

Yeah, Crunchyroll is interesting for a number of reasons. Along with being a niche, they were also among the first to market and had for a time ridiculous audience/user engagement. I'm not an anime guy so I wasn't ever part of that but as a media and industry guy (as I was before my current career), I was more than aware of what they were doing. They'll probably make an interesting study.

The WWE is likely a bit different. They have a narrow audience (primarily teenage boys) that outgrows it quickly. Going solo was probably a bad move. Their presence somewhere else - somewhere that you already are and might see it - is very important. Solo WWE doesn't make sense to me as a subscription service.

310 OT grouse

Why did Firefox go and fuck with tab-cycling hotkeys? It used to be that CTRL+TAB cycled through tabs left-to-right and CTRL+SHIFT+TAB cycled through tabs right-to-left. Now those hotkeys behave unexpectedly and it takes recency into account. That's fine for app switching (ALT+TAB and ALT+SHIFT+TAB) but in browsers where you see an index at the top of the screen at all times, that is stupid and counter-intuitive. Thankfully you can go hack this to get the proper behavior back, but this is an insane UX decision that irks me - just like when Chrome removed the "Backspace key goes back if you're not in a text box" functionality.

315 I suspect total subscriptions will remain fairly stable but the internal movements across services will be quite high.

Looking at cable demos its interesting at how heavily the viewing is tilted towards Boomers and Silent Generation as they spend their sunset years propped up in front of screen.

Marketers are frustrated with Gen Z because they switch channels and hop through sites like a rabbit on meth. Mils and Z are also heavily influenced by degenerate celebrities, whereas most recognizable and marketable actors are Boomer and Gen X.

The whole thing is very fluid, so I am going to disagree on the "stable" characterization of total subscriptions - just because corporations are becoming relatively more sclerotic as merit and skill in leadership and guidance positions is being replaced by worthless and entitled CRT checkboxes.

342 I saw this yesterday over at Mooch's Mirror. Does this give anyone great concern that it's coming from the AMA with regard to implications on our overall healthcare in the future? It scares the bejesus out of me. Really unbelievable stuff.

In an 86-page strategic plan released May 11, the AMA set out a three year road map detailing how the advocacy group will use its influence to dismantle "structural and institutional racism" and advance "social and racial justice" in America's health care system.

According to its plan, the AMA will be following a host of strategies, including implementing "racial and social justice" throughout the AMA enterprise culture, systems, policies, and practices; expanding medical education to include critical race theory; and pushing toward "racial healing, reconciliation, and transformation" regarding the organization's own "racially discriminatory" past.

Or import it at catastrophic expense because there was a limited physical release somewhere. Black Mirror was like that (though it didn't start as Netflix-only for the first couple of seasons). If you want a physical copy, you have to buy it from Holland and it costs a fortune. I'd be willing to pay for it, but not more than any other TV show (in the neighborhood of $15-$25 a season or sub-$100 for the entire series).

The point is that a lot of content isn't being placed in these digital footlockers like VUDU. I use it, myself, but only as a backup to my physical collection.

But if I want access to a large chunk of content produced today, the digital footlocker approach doesn't apply.

Food and gas and rent, probably. That's what UBI - and UBI is what we are getting by a different name - is for, after all. And inflation eats the difference.

Plus, I don't know how many people are like me. I just bought a house in December. Between then and a few weeks ago, I spent around $25k on things like moving, furniture, linens, housewares, appliances, etc. I have been bleeding money at a shocking rate getting my house going (I moved significantly up from a four room apartment to nine room house, so had a lot of gaps to fill) and now my spending has flatlined even lower than it was before because I'm basically done. I'm an outlier, but I am probably not the only one who said, "I'm pretty much done. Time to stop spending money and try to hedge against the future."

Then according to Mannix's Rules of Debate, you can safely ignore all of his prattling forever. This violates Axiom 4:

"If at any time the debater brings up racial motivations when discussing any topic that is not *essentially* related to race without first building the basic case for why racial factors may reasonably be considered part of the topic in, the debater cedes the contest and his arguments are null."

Might be talking past each other a bit here and I may not have been as clear as I meant. I was playing a bit off your line about a streaming film library being boutique. And that really streaming can be supplemental or even unnecessary for a lot of movies released today to watch them digitally, if they're sold with that feature.

Heh. Two items on that.

My dad was one of seven. One of the family cars was a truck with a topper. The kids went in the back, the parents up in the cab. He said after the first trip in that vehicle, his dad was nice and pleasant and gave them all pocket money to get snacks - instead of rage and possibly low-grade violence. Separation did wonders.

In my case, I am one of three. My mom bought a minivan for the expressed purpose of putting one kid in each row and keeping us away from each-other. Worked reasonably well.

485 Oh. memories of two very long, all-summer crosscountry family road trips in the family station wagon!! One parent (dad had to stay home and work), 4 kids, hours of debate about which plaid line in the upolstery disignated "my side" vs. "your side" -- a few that ended in blood. But we learned to get along, learned how to amuse ourselves, the fun of Mad Libs, backgammon and other games, how to use a map, how to truly appreciate what a beautiful and varied country we live in.

Sponge and Rodrigo Borgia:

Cut out the personal sniping or get suspended. No personal attacks.

First and only warning. And it goes for everyone.

487 Another twisted, psychologically-stunted aspect of Mask Theater has been that many seem to think of masks as "gear." As in something cool, tactical and that shows you're a participant in some kind of adventerous activity. Hence all the douchebags who walk around outside with masks slung over an ear, or the bandana around the neck.
The land of the once-free and the home of purposeless sheep.

That's great. I loved mad libs. My parents also made up a game where you'd get points for things you see-such as a cat in the window-100 points. I think it was really better for imagination and for games and for entertaining yourself before you could plop in a movie, but I'm am old fogey. And we had a 2.5 days trip up to Canada.

It is hard - maybe impossible - to appreciate the true vastness of this country without driving across it (well, cycling or walking would do it, too). I wouldn't be opposed to "road trip to another region" as a high school graduation requirement. You get to see just how huge this place it, meet people - other travelers and locals - as you stop for fuel and food, etc.

Well, the physical punishment doesn't make me laugh-just the thought of exasperated parents on long trips. It's such a common thing for most of us-either when we were kids or with our own.

I was the child that got car sick so I got to sit in the front seat...back when there were bench front seats.

493 >>I was the child that got car sick so I got to sit in the front seat...back when there were bench front seats.

Heh. My oldest sister got the front seat because she was oldest, and on the 2nd trip, she was 16 and doing some of the driving. Only after the trip, when she later got her drivers license, did mom realize that she wasn't supposed to be driving out of state on a learner's permit. Oh well!

494 215 By Tuesday, my son was sick and went to be tested. It was positive. He's really, really sick this time and I'm starting to worry. He is physically fit, young, healthy-eater. I didn't think it could happen either but apparently it's a thing.

I'm sure this your son's second case of Wuflu. Doctors never lie. They'd never take the government subsidy for each Wuflu case if it's just a cold or another strain of seasonal flu.

Of course they wouldn't do those things.

Right?

Did a road trip w/my son and his grandparents, first day was Denver to an AZ border town, with most of the trip through New Mexico. Wow. Then a few days later, when we went to the Grand Canyon, my son who had always claimed "I hate nature!" was in awe. Upon getting to the rim, "This. . is. . . major!"

I've read that it wasn't until the 1930's that you were more likely to be helped, rather than harmed, by medical treatment.

"Bachelor Sex-Offender." Is that going to have John Forsythe or Bill Bixby?
