The Morning Report - 5/13/21 [J.J. Sefton]

Good morning kids. Thursday and while Israel is committing the heinous crime against humanity of defending itself from missile attacks from Gaza and an Arab pogrom from within, here's a blast from the past, pun intended. Specifically last August:

At least 73 people are reported dead and thousands more are injured following a massive explosion Tuesday that rocked Beirut's port.
The blasts sent a mushroom cloud high into the sky above the Lebanese capital, leveling much of the city's port area, damaging some buildings and blowing out windows in others, officials said.
Preliminary assessments suggest the explosion was a tragic accident -- but authorities have not ruled out the possibility that it was a planned attack, according to Fox News.
The explosions come just days before a United Nations verdict is due on four alleged Hezbollah members accused of killing former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005, Fox News reported.
The blasts also took place in the port area, which is controlled by the Shia Islamic movement, the outlet said.

When the dust had settled...

The explosion that devastated large parts of Beirut and killed more than 190 people was one of the largest non-nuclear blasts in history -- about 1/20th the size of the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima in World Word II, according to a report.
Experts at the UK's Sheffield University found that the size of the blast at the port -- which unleashed a huge shockwave throughout the Lebanese capital -- was the equivalent of between 500 and 1,100 tons of TNT, the BBC reported.
"Beirut's certainly the most powerful non-nuclear explosion of the 21st century," said Sam Rigby of Sheffield's Blast and Impact Engineering Research Group...

No doubt the subhuman savages of Hezbollah would have not taken kindly had the UN officially implicated them in Hariri's death. But an explosion of this magnitude could not have been related to that. Lebanon, which is essentially Gaza with marginally better PR, is for all intents and purposes the front line border between Iran and Israel, with the former using those puppet states as fire bases from which to attack the latter. It is more than likely that the rockets now raining down on Israel were either manufactured in Iran or, given Israel's successful efforts at interdicting arms shipments via the sea, manufactured in Gaza or Lebanon. I think Lebanon has or had factories that would have used the materials that leveled Beirut's harbor last August to build rockets that would have rained down on Israel from the north.

By the way, a Hamas leader himself stated unequivocally he bought the weapons from Iran with Iranian money. And Iranian money ultimately means American money... from pallets of cash. Thanks, Obama!!!

Not that Israel is so big that a barrage from Gaza cannot reach virtually everywhere. But double the missiles from two directions might very well have overwhelmed Israel's so far successful Iron Dome missile defenses with catastrophic results. Hamas is acting at the behest of Iran. This is an attack by Iran on Israel. They are testing them and really the Biden junta to see what its response will be. Finally after a two-day lid, Biden was given his monkey glands and crystal meth cocktail to call for "restraint on both sides," i.e. blame the damned Jooz for not agreeing to shut up and get in the gas chamber.

On that note, while I was frankly shocked, and pleasantly so, by NYC mayoral candidate Andrew "Out the Ying" Yang's unequivocal support for Israel, I'm even more surprised at his surprise by the reaction from his own party:

New York City mayoral candidate and former Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang backtracked Wednesday after he tweeted earlier in the week to support Israel as it continues to be bombarded by rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists... .
..But "progressive" Democrats attacked Yang, calling him. "white supremacist" and urging New Yorkers to oppose him. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) even encouraged Muslims not to host him at communal religious celebrations.
On Wednesday, in the face of criticism from anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists in his own party, Yang backed down... ..."Support of a people does not make one blind to the pain and suffering of others," Yang wrote. "Again, most everyone simply wants to be able to live and pray in peace."

Well, that was quick. I've seen more backbone from an overcooked lo mein noodle. Seriously, can Andrew Yang or any Democrat for that matter be so completely clueless as to not know that their party long ago ditched Bobby Kennedy in favor of Sirhan-Sirhan?! Yang is not even old enough to remember a time when the Democrat Party was ostensibly pro-Israel in order to maintain its Jewish voting bloc. In fact, hatred of Israel and by extension observant Jews in general is stock in trade of much of the braindead younger generation and sadly far too many elders that ought to know better and abandoned their faith for the church of Marxist-Leninism. Clueless and spineless is no way to go through life, Andrew. But it does help in trying to climb the ranks of the Democrats. So, Yang goes "Kohm."

World's going to hell and I do Trek references. Look if you don't laugh, you cry, right? Anyway, even as nuclear war could break out in the Middle East and the Kalorama Caliphs pulling President Joe Aqualung's strings are hell bent on destroying our economy, there are little rays of hope out there. Such as the parent in Loudon County who just went off on the school board for Critical Master-Race Theory and the growing rejection of the lockdown garbage in Tennessee (as cited) and elsewhere. The open letter from retired military brass while pitch perfect is way too little and way too late. Nice to dream that they have several divisions behind them, but considering what's been done to the DoD, I'm not going to count on that.

Make it very clear to the rest of the world that atomic weapons are entirely on the table.

We have recently discovered that the entire Database directory from the D drive of the machine EMSPrimary has been deleted. This removes election related details that appear to have been covered by the subpoena. In addition, the main database for the Election Management System (EMS) Software, Results Tally and Reporting, is not located anywhere on the EMSPrimary machine, even though all of the EMS Clients reference that machine as the location of the database. This suggests that the main database for all election-related data for the November 2020 General Election has been removed. Can you please advise as to why these folders were deleted, and whether there are any backups that may contain the deleted folders?

Second, the IT backup operator (though not the architect - he'll remain unknown) will discover that the disk, tape and offsite cloud backups are missing or corrupt. Yes, it's a "medical thing", and it's a medical issue that I'm not comfortable discussing with anyone but my doctor. It's not a violation of HIPAA at all.

HIPAA says that if you are in legal possession of someone else's medical records (like you work in a hospital or for an insurance company, for instance), you cannot reveal the information without the consent of the individual.

It does not say that some rando on the street can't ask you if you have the polio vaccine, including agents of corporations.

This is my position. I have a friend who once E-Mailed me a semi-lengthy screed from one of his long-time friends who is a red. He was frustrated and essentially asked me, "how do I respond to this?"

I fisked it, providing (what I thought to be) good discussion on virtually every word in the original. I prefaced it, however, by saying that if he really wants to use it, he'll find it below - but I recommend not bothering. There's no point in arguing with a true believer unless there's an audience of non-true-believers present who might be swayed by your argument. In a one-on-one scenario, there's no point.

If you want to maintain that friendship, try not to engage. She's being manipulative under the guise of concern and care. She might not even know she's doing it. But responding in the negative isn't going to work, and capitulating and doing something you don't want to because of her pressure isn't going to work either and will hurt you mentally.

I'm a vaccine cheerleader, but it's dumb to make it a dealbreaker for a friendship - heck, it's dumb to make any single issue with a friend a deal breaker. The reason you are friends is that you're not the same.

I'm gonna echo others. You can test the friendship by telling the truth and seeing if she dumps you, you can give her the medical excuse she offered you, or you can just drop the whole thing and never say a word. I'm not sure what the best answer is, but if she truly is only a friend while you do and think everything she wants, then she's not a friend, she's an acquaintance, and a little distance is never a bad thing...

It's one thing to offer one's vaccine experience and cheerlead it (and even then, it should only be done when the non-vaccinated friend asks)...it's another thing to "force" it as a condition of a friendship...

You're not supposed to say anything at all regarding the records. Saying, "I can't tell you if this person has had a polio vaccine or not" is really the only appropriate response that won't get the owner of the record in trouble.

224 How big a deal is the I-40 bridge closure over the Mississippi? I know it obviously isn't good, especially given the volume of trucking that happens on I-40. That said, I-55 intersect I-40 in West Memphis, Arkansas and has it's own crossing into Tennessee. The two interstates don't re-intersect on the other side, though, which means that those tens of thousands of vehicles per day are doing to have to punch through south Memphis back to I-40 or across to I-69 to hook back north to the original route.

That detour is going to suck donkey balls until the bridge fixed (I know - I've screwed up navigating I-40/I-55 before and had to do that), but traffic should be able to flow if they close local routes to keep the detour rolling. Is this actually happening or working, or is it all an unmitigated clusterfuck?

There are tradeoffs for having your primary care physician being part of a clinic, with a potential downside that they might strongarm doctors to go along with quacks like Fauci. I haven't seen any evidence of that yet and my PCP seems to be accomplished and independent enough to tell them to fuck off.

I just finished my yearly test. But, yeah, HIPAA only applies to people who keep medical data and their business associates. A company asking about medical info might fall under other Federal or State laws.

Oh, yes. If that's the detour, the only way to make it work - and it would piss off *everyone* who lives in southern Memphis Proper, would be to close off the detour route. Signpost it with good wayfinding, close all intersections onto or off of the detour route except for local traffic ingress to the freeways, post police to intervene and keep traffic flowing as needed. It will be a GD nightmare and slow as hell, but possible. I am curious as to what they're doing for the detour.

311 Someone up thread asked about Bongino taking over Rushs show. Bongino has his own show distributed by I Heart radio and that is replacing Rushs show on WOWO. Rushs show is syndicated by Premier Networks which is a subsidiary of IHeart. The EIB network is the name of Rushs earlier self owned syndication but I believe his deal with Premier supersedes any deal on his own. Premier has said they are continuing to support Rushs show and they just launched a podcast series detailing Rushs rise to fame but I believe eventually more stations will decide to replace his show with new talk radio shows like Bongino.

331 Back in the fall when we were talking about what would happen in the election, I postulated that the Dems wouldn't try to cheat to the degree they did. My reasoning was that it was too big of a risk to have their game exposed leading to election reform. This is what happened in Florida in 2018, Brenda Snipes tried too hard to steal the election and ended up blowing up their Florida cheat machine.

This AZ audit is showing that the risk is real. If the only way they can hide is by deleting the voting record, that is a bad situation. It gives the AZ legislature (and other states) reason to throw out Dominion since they don't have adequate audit systems. Audit is a fundamental cyber security control and systems can not be certified for use without it.

We'll see how it plays out, but clearly HB1 is important to the Dems to head off state reforms that their overreach have triggered.

Barr was the biggest con of the bunch. He fooled Levin, JackStraw and me, among others; not MP4 and a few others here though. I stopped listening to Levin because of his 1/6 reaction so I don't know if he's addressed Barr. He was late in owning up to what a sellout Paul Ryan was; mostly reacting with puzzlement than calling him a worthless snake, which is surely why he still has his Sunday night show.

I sure hope it wasn't any kind of plastic that gasoline would eat through, but that still begs the question of whether she would have been able to get the giant tub of liquid into her car at all.

Grammie, I was given a couple as gifts years ago and like them a lot (especially the little coffee cup sized one). That said, I also bought some knockoff $5-$10 ones to put in the camper, and I can't tell a single bit of difference in real-world use. I'm sure there are lab studies where the Yeti keeps something hot or cold 12% longer, but in real life scenarios that doesn't really come up that often.

All this to say, if you see a knockoff with a handle, go for it.

I am a big fan of one of their competitors. I think they're slightly cheaper than Yeti, but it isn't a meaningful difference. They make a very good product, including actual coffee cups with handles and various other cups that aren't preposterously large (and thus are easy to handle).

The outfit's called Corkcicle. I know there are other thermal cups and canteens that work about as well for a lot less money, but I really like the style of this company's product line.

I'm a bit vain sometimes. Sue me.

Jefferson did try to get an anti-slavery section into the VA state constitution, but there was too much fight against it and he figured that VA would get it done within the next generation anyway. There were a lot of fires to put out when forging a new constitution under a new federal government, so he tried to put it off.

The anti-slavery stuff never came about like he had envisioned. The cotton gin's acceptance made slavery far more profitable all of a sudden, and pro-slavery sentiment just became de rigeur in the state. It was always an aristocratic state, but helping to alleviate a lot of the cash flow problems inherent in slavery (without actually fixing it, by the way) just made anti-slavery sentiment lose one powerful aspect.

Whoever wrote the article has a much different idea as to what constitutes a crack than I do, because the member in question isn't just "cracked" it's completely broken and displaced.

I'd say the people who travel that bridge really got lucky the bridge stayed up, because that particular beam is completely compromised.

At least you can get them, they are banned here. If you want a paper bag from the grocery store it is $.04 apiece - a tax to discourage use of them. Also stores are not allowed to sell reusable bags anymore because of the Chinese lung rot. You take the cart out to the parking lot and throw all the individual things you buy into the trunk of the car. I'm sure that will change as soon as they get around to banning cars - its coming.

Then after the war ended, the FIL got a package with a letter in German in it saying 'Thank you for saving my son; I had him for six months after the war; he died of his wounds but I love you forever for saving him for me and this was his favourite toy.'

I think the key is that they were both unhappy, feeling disconnected. It wasn't just one, and so they went the same route only to rediscover each other. Like most pop culture stuff, it doesn't look at long term consequences, so the relationship is probably doomed to fail anyway. But in that moment where they find that the other was looking for the same thing, they can share a laugh and a drink.
