Neocon Liz Cheney Ousted From Leadership; Vows That She Will Use All Of Her Remaining Power, Which Is Very Very Little, to Insure Trump Never Wins the Presidency for a Third Time

She's going to use all of the power that a single congressman out of 435, who has been repudiated by her party, has.

Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.

"I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office," Cheney said. "We have seen the danger that he continues to provoke with his language. We have seen his lack of commitment and dedication to the Constitution, and I think it’s very important that we make sure whomever we elect, is somebody who will be faithful to the Constitution."

Trump praised the news of Cheney's ouster.

"Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being," he said in a statement. "I watched her yesterday and realized how bad she is for the Republican Party. She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our Country. She is a talking point for Democrats, whether that means the Border, the gas lines, inflation, or destroying our economy. She is a warmonger whose family stupidly pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our Great Military, the worst decision in our Country's history. I look forward to soon watching her as a Paid Contributor on CNN or MSDNC!"

Lauren Boebert puts it simply: "We are not going back."

No matter how many times NeverTrump and the liberal wing sabotages us, no matter how elections they throw to the Democrats, no matter how many factional games they play to try to crawl their way back into power: We are not going back.

Either accept the new reality of the GOP or make your semi-covert membership in the Democrat Party overt.

> Not exactly what Wozniak said.

A CS kid wrote to Woz, saying, "Does Steve Jobs know how to code? Is he an engineer (i.e. did he know what the heck you were doing when you were building the Apple?)"

Woz's response, "Steve didn't ever code. He wasn't an engineer and he didn't do any original design, but he was technical enough to alter and change and add to other designs. I did all of the Apple I and Apple ][ myself, including the feature choices. I did all of the BASIC myself (it's in handwriting as I couldn't afford an assembler). The only person who helped write some of the Apple ][ code was Allen Baum, who helped with the 'monitor' program."

McCarthy backed Cheney when it was obvious that she was a cancer, only turning tail and running when small dollar donations cratered.

Spectacularly righteous strike by Israel just reported:

The Palestinian militant group Hamas on Wednesday said that its Gaza City commander, Bassem Issa, was killed by an Israeli airstrike.
...
The AP reports that Israel's internal security agency confirmed the deaths, adding that the airstrike had killed the organization's head of rocket development and cyber warfare, the head of rocket production and its engineering chief.

I don't think there could have been a better enemy decapitation strike than this.

Too many of the GOP beltway critters have spent their time fundraising with the goal of more fundraising rather than governing since these critters are able to make a good living this way and so they're not interested in governing to make the government work as it is supposed to work. 174 It's perfectly clear that Cheney wanted this result. That's what I don't understand. Why would she want this?

My guess is she was promised a sweet, no-show corporate board position in return for making a scene that some saw as damaging to the Trump brand. They're wrong - it does not hurt Trump in the slightest - but that would be my guess. Still got a ton of people playing 2021 by 1981 rules - on both sides.

Harlan was kind of....well, there was no "kind of" about it. He was an asshole.
But sometimes he did write interesting things.
And no, you should not worship your heroes, and that includes Donald Trump. He ran for political office and won (I sent him a lot of money in 2016), but he's no hero. He's a very rich man, and sometimes quite an asshole himself.
But the alternatives, then and now, were horrible.

And that's where America is today. A lousy and a horrible alternative. Make a choice.
So shop smart. Shop S Mart.

194 I don't think Cheney and her gang are actually that angry with Trump because the graft isn't flowing like it used to. I am sure that's a part of it, but there will plenty of book deals, board positions and Asness Chairs for them. The graft may be smaller, but it will still be plentiful.

I think the real reason for the behavior is existential terror and rage. Their world - the world they want, they world they've been working to build, the world on which they've built every facet of their identities - no longer exists and it no longer exists because Trump killed it.

It isn't that there's no more corruption, no more failure theater, no more horrendous overstepping of boundaries, no more lawbreaking, etc. Those things are still happening in spades. What has changed, however, is their moral authority. What has changed is that the people they're abusing are no longer falling for it. They now see it for what it is and, importantly, they see *these people* for what they are, too. Trump ripped people's "They Live" sunglasses off and what has been revealed cannot be unseen.

It's existential malaise and fear - not loss of profit - that is the real reason for the fury.

The GOP believed the Frank Luntzs of the world when they said that it would be a blue wave in 2020, and they wanted that because they needed a blue wave downballot as evidence that Trump had been "repudiated." When it didn't occur they freaked out. I still believe that McConnell deliberately threw the GA Senate races with his refusal to pass the stimulus: if the GOP had held the Senate it would have made Trump's loss all the more peculiar, and would have proven that Trump was good for the party.

None of us truly know what goes on behind the scenes, the jockeying for positions, but it is almost certainly true the Bush/Cheney dynasty wanted to keep going.

I don't think Jeb(!) was ever the answer though, so Trump pushing him aside was just the mechanism. Jeb(!) was never going to happen. I do wonder though, in their fevered dreams, did they see Liz being anointed somewhere along the way? If so, yeah, there's a "we would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling Trumps" aspect to ALL of this.

270 I think the real reason for the behavior is existential terror and rage. Their world - the world they want, they world they've been working to build, the world on which they've built every facet of their identities - no longer exists and it no longer exists because Trump killed it.

The world is run by the MBA/consultant class. They move from corporations to politics and back, they live in the same neighborhoods, attend the same schools, and fuck each other's wives, and they all think the same. They've been living off the accumulated social, economic, and political capital of previous generations, using it to pay for whatever hare-brained scheme they come up with, and leveraging it to make promise after promise to voters, the same way new management ruins a once-healthy business. The problem is that the capital has run out, and now they suddenly find that they can't honor all their debts. So they're cooking the books, trying to keep the whole system running just long enough that either a miracle occurs, or they can cash out and leave shareholders (the voters) to clean up the mess.

While I would love to have a fire-breather like Marjorie Taylor-Greene in leadership, I'll happily settle for someone who knows which way the wind is blowing with the base, and follows it.

The minimum we should expect in a party is a working system where the desires of the base get transmitted to leadership, and are successfully executed from there. I want a system that ensures that flawed, self-interested politicians are incentivized to do the right thing by their true bosses - the voters.

If Stefanik can do that, and make the rest of the flawed leadership do that, I'm happy. Actions, not words.

Posted by: Eat The Eloi at May 12, 2021 11:57 AM (V3EEC)

You have three choices: 1. Fight for control of the Republican Party, wrest it AWAY from "them." 2. Form a new party. C. Give up.

Lots of people seem to think #1 is the best option, and I don't know enough to know they're wrong.

321 Um, McCarthy has long shown his potential. Everything about him, including his political origins, pretty much leave little room for "hope". And the old Friedman thing about making the wrong people do the right thing has always been much more glib than insightful, or correct.

I always mention it but its quintessential and therefore serves well. In October '18, literally at the 11th hour before the mid-terms, McCarthy staged a border visit. Full of (poorly delivered) faux passionate rhetoric about ..... doing something about the problem that the House GOP had done literally *nothing* about for the past 2 years, while providing zero support to Trump's efforts to actually do a lot.

This one thing provides all the info one needs about McCarthy, his (lack of) substantive interest in anything important, his perception of what's needed to keep the GOP sheep supporting him, and, sadly, much of the GOP electorate.

Awesome.

403 Yes, it really is a tell. Darren Beattie, who did a fantastic job documenting the key players in the 2020 election shenanigans over at his Revolver.com, has detailed how all of these globalists use "democracy" as a term of art.

They have a very specific use for that word that has nothing to do with its traditional meaning. You see the same language used when they're justifying color revolutions in places such as Ukraine.

This is somewhat revisionist history. After mid-May of last year (at the very latest), all the lockdown nonsense was totally the fault of state and local officials. Trump jawboned on "getting on with life" constantly. I don't know how many times I heard him say "open it up" in campaign speeches. Blame Trump for "2 weeks to slow the spread" if you like... that would be fair. But to blame him for the last year of idiocy is nonsensical.

No, what PDT got elected for was to build a wall (and more broadly to do everything that symbolized). He was fought tooth and nail by the Democrats and not supported by his own party, but he managed to get a lot done. Restoring the economy was probably Mission Number 2, and was the Greatest of All Time there. Both of those were higher priorities than draining the swamp, and to a certain extent he needed the swamp, so he couldn't declare war on it.

462 On matters involving federal law and $ etc Congresscritters most definitely have standing, for example some should be filing suit right now over the regime's effort to provide $$ to the Paleostinians contrary to current law.

Leaving aside the farce that "standing" has become, thanks to the ridiculous lawless judiciary and its clueless/worshipful legal cult that simply cannot admit the state of things. As when NGOs were deemed to have standing to sue on behalf of foreigners, outside the US, who had no connection whatsoever to anything in the US, other than their desire to come here.

Of course there's the Volksgericht-level farce of the DC Circuit in the way, but the Beltway GOP is not serious about any important policy matter, certainly not enough to engage in lawfare, so it's kinda moot.

467 Like most 60s/70s kids, I loved and still do adore Peanuts. I read years ago about Schultz as a person and it made me sad. His children said he was a cold man. He seemed to not really enjoy the wonder and joy those characters brought to millions and millions of kids. I still love Peanuts. They're a part of my childhood. But it does bother me he was a depressed, cold butt of a person.

475 Peanuts was about a bunch of extremely depressed, miserable characters, except Snoopy. it comes off almost every page, but was still fun and interesting most of the time.

But, with BC and Peanuts and Wizard of Id and the rest being the standard (mind you I enjoy them all), its no surprise that stuff like Calvin & Hobbes and Far Side was so well accepted. They broke the mold and were interesting, trying different things. Comics were getting really boring.

Almost to the last person, nearly every great comedian and comic writer in the past has been personally miserable or experienced great misery in their lives.

That's part of why comedians aren't really funny any more. They have experienced no real difficulty or sadness in their lives, only perceived miseries like a billionaire's child throwing a fit because their dress is too slow coming in the mail.

We, the people of Israel, owe you a huge debt of gratitude. You have succeeded where we have failed. Because never before, in the history of the modern State of Israel, has the Jewish people been so united, like one person with one heart. Everyone in Israel, from Left to Right, secular and religious, in united in the knowledge that there is no accommodating an enemy that is sworn to the genocide of our people.
And now, as you continue to launch deadly missiles indiscriminately, intended to maim and murder as many civilians as possible, while you take cowardly refuge behind your own civilians - you continue to inspire us to hold strongly onto our unity. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the March 23 murder on May 5, a court spokesman told The Washington Post on Tuesday.

In return for pleading guilty to murder, other charges -- armed carjacking, robbery and aggravated reckless driving -- were dropped.

The moment you announce that you are laying down arms, we will halt our advance, and there we will draw our new borders. If you continue to attack our citizens, we will continue to roll southwards, driving you out of territory that you will never again contaminate with your evil presence.
It pains me deeply that your civilians will be made homeless. But we did not choose this war; you did. And if our choice is between allowing our citizens to be targeted mercilessly by your genocidal savagery, versus turning your civilians into refugees, I regret that we must choose the latter. Also, people are under estimating her abililty to win re-election. Wyoming has an 'open' primary - don't be surprised to see her get 40-50% of democrat party votes to help her win the GOP primary. The Dems want her stinking up Congress in perpetuity.

Sorry, wrong. Every state constitution contains the powers to do what the states ended up doing without the feds ordering anything. The states' powers in that regard are much stronger than the Fed power, and the Fed emergency order was only about money and resource allocation, not ordering lockdowns.

In fact, the FEMA act requires the states to take primary responsibility for the welfare of their citizens in an emergency. All the largest states are run by DemonRats and they saw their opportunity to destroy the economy and "get Trump", so they did.

ENSURE, NOT INSURE!!!
Posted by: pookysgirl, grammar naht-zee at May 12, 2021 12:42 PM (XKZwp)

New Oxford American Dictionary

usage: There is considerable overlap between the meaning and use of insure and ensure. In both US and British English, the primary meaning of insure is the commercial sense of providing financial compensation in the event of damage to property; ensure is not used at all in this sense.
For the more general senses, ensure is more likely to be used, but insure and ensure are often interchangeable, particularly in US English: bail is posted to insure that the defendant appears for trial / the system is run to ensure that a good quality of service is maintained.

and this is exactly the problem.

they can use their money and never dying status to just outlast public opinion. The pendulum swings but only if there is energy from the public, otherwise, it never swings back, at all. RR was a swing. Trump was a swing. We thought Bush was a swing, but he just talked and then did the things War Inc. wanted. At the end of the day, the best case scenario is that the swings maintain a weak status quo. In practice, because the energy flags, but the corporate money never does, things only get worse.

Could be. I'll allow him that. But way below on the scale of importance, imho, is his being Speaker or ousting Pelosi, when compared to the overthrowing of a national election by way of negating the American voters' choice for president.
