At least, use open-source encryption libraries. Don't try to create your own algorithms; getting that right is seriously hard.

Oh yes, indeed. By roll your own, I mean using well-known, open-source, published encryption for you end to end usage. Don't depend on some "app", provided by some company to do it. Everything like that is utterly compromised by Bob@NSA.

I remember reading about something funny. In the early days, software began to offer "encryption", like for word processor files and stuff. It was stuff conceived by naif developers, who had read a little on the basics of encryption and tried to roll their own.

It was stuff like taking the bytes of some document and XORed it with some psuedo-random stream generated from a password.

Bob@NSA, not to mention any first-year code-cracker can break that trivially.

i was reticent about posting here. I post no were else. I could have just been a lurker as I always was, that was easy to to. But I am not going to call out ACE because it is his place. I may not be the most internet savvy guy ever, but I know I made my own choice. I kind of wish when the place got overhauled the history would go with it. Everytime I post I hope that is the end of it. It is not that I hate the net, but I do hate the net. I have no desire for posterity, that is my way, but likely not the way of others. There were lots of stories about digital manipulation of people prior to and after the election. A pro-Hillary Democrat researcher made some startling discoveries about how Google et al were nudging people.

The one I remember most is that Google would put a REMEMBER TO BE A GREAT CITIZEN AND GO VOTE! banner on phones. But only on people who had typed leftist stuff or searched for Democrat results. IIRC the researcher said it probably gave a 15M vote advantage to Democrats.

I mentioned it on a book thread a couple of weeks ago, but I think grown-up "choose your own adventure" books would be a big seller. I had picked up a military history book titled "You are the General" that I thought was going to be one, but it wasn't. It got me thinking about reading that type of book when I was a little kid, though, and I really think there would be a market for them. Mysteries, romance, action, etc.

AOSHQ constantly refreshes in my Brave app on my IOS. I end up having to click on the comment link for each post to keep it stable.
