I think this came out wrong. Rembrandt is one of the Greats, no question. His self-portraits are a master-class in portraiture. They are expressive, individualistic, and innovative. His use of lighting is superb. I think the subject of this one is funny. Without the title, you'd never know this was supposed to be Rembrandt as Paul. Usually, an artist will put more visual clues.

108 I spent a good bit of time at the gallery in Amsterdam a few years back. This Dutch style is so incredibly dark. Very hard to make out details because of all the blacks and browns, even if you are standing right in front of the painting.

I had my first pushback from a retail worker on not wearing a mask this weekend. By the auto section of my local WalMart, where I was just trying to get the guy behind the counter to ring up a barcode for some mulch, another guy at a nearby table specifically for temperature checks for employees, told me that I had to wear a mask.
"You have to wear a mask."
"I'm vaccinated."
"So are we."
"Then what's the point?"
"You don't have to wear it if you don't want to."

They keep muddying the proper use/purpose of masks -- are they to stop your from infecting others OR to protect you from getting infected from others?

I pocketed the mask he had asked me to take without putting it on. I just look at it like this: He lost one more fight on masking with someone. It's normalizing that loss for him while normalizing having people walk around inside the store without one.

"This civilization is interesting in how they segregated their garbage into large, isolated areas. This was presumably for public health purposes. Studying the longer-running refuse collection areas show a cross-section of the civilization's consumption over time. The lowest layers of the refuse collection contain significantly more metal than later layers. Metal shifted to plastic for what appears to be decades. Paper, wood and other organic material is always present. There is an interesting anomaly in the later layers near the tops of the collections. The amount of paper and fabric increased dramatically and much of it has similar shapes. We suspect that these are facial coverings. The reason for the sudden popularity of these disposable or semi-disposable garments remains a mystery, though sociologists postulate that it was due a mass religious movement that mandated new modesty accessories for all people."

Posted by: JAS, AoSHQ addict at May 10, 2021 09:06 AM (xopIz)

Given Hollywood's love affair with professional assassins for their action movies, I started playing around with a story about an assassin's academy, where the instructor tells the class that the perfect assassin has the weapons skills of a Delta Force operator, could kick Bruce Lee's ass in a karate fight, the technical expertise of a rocket scientist, but looks like Woody Allen.

Obviously, it's garbage, but the idea was fun for awhile.

The younger Rembrandt had acne on his chin. He painted his self-portrait on roughly grained wood that actually draws attention to his bad complexion. He's telling the person looking at the painting, 'This is who I am, zits and all.' Love him for it.

If were really serious about using masks to avoid either contracting or spreading a disease, we would be using full-face respirators with an inlet filter capable of stopping virus particles, and an outlet filter loaded with enough disinfectant to kill any bugs exhaled. It would probably have to have a motorized pump to draw air through the inlet filter.

That's how viruses actually work, in context.

Again, people are under the false notion that we are at year one of our understanding of viruses, their communication, expression and transmission, how the y continually circulate, attenuate, mutate in human populations.

But whatever, we have people who think they know what the fuck they are talking about when they fucking clearly don't.

I guess this is going to go on until the Deep State either achieves their objective or gets tired.

Sort of, except only the part where it's politically useful. Because the dirtly little secret is that - no matter how much the left praises homosexual men and cross-dressers - they find it utterly disgusting and know the vast majority of the population does, too.

It's why there's not prime time gay male sex scenes on channels Disney controls, and also why the left won't hesitate to imply someone is gay as an insult. Trolls here do it all the time.

The near-universal disgusting part is what they'll be aiming for when they start the push comparing freedom-loving people with AIDS superspreaders.

I'm sure there are multiple reasons, and frankly I always thought the "to get rid of Trump" reason was way too small.
