The Morning Report - 3/30/21 [J.J. Sefton]

Good morning, kids. Tuesday and the purge of anyone and anything perceived as a threat to the rapidly-metastasizing power of the illegally installed Democrat junta in DC continues. I am guardedly optimistic that despite being utterly abandoned by the GOP, who really never represented us in the first place, we do have some political leaders who are willing to stand up to what is an existential threat to our freedom. Right now, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida is a superstar:

"The flip side of that, though, with these vaccine passports, it's completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society. You want to go to a movie theater, should you have to show that? No. You want to go to a game? No. You want to go to a theme park? No. So, we're not supportive of that. I think it's something that people have certain freedoms and individual liberties to make decisions for themselves. I also wonder it's like, okay. You're going to do this and then what? Give all this information to some big corporation? You want the fox to guard the henhouse? I mean, give me a break."
Do you think a bank should be able to deny you a loan if you buy a car with a gas engine? Do you believe an insurance company should be able to deny coverage to a gun manufacturer engaged in a legal industry? Should a bank be able to require you to install solar panels on the home you would like to buy? All this and more is coming under ESG -- environmental, social, and government -- standards. You may be familiar with Operation Chokepoint, created under the Obama Justice Department. Global collaboration on ESG criteria from the world's leading financial institutions via the World Economic Forum is the next iteration. Merrill Lynch is already assigning customers an ESG score.
It is a social credit score by another name being implemented by private businesses. Government intervention is the only way it will stop. Global governments in liberal democracies are standing aside while private companies seek to interfere with your fundamental rights in a way the government simply cannot. And unless we demand that our government protect those rights, they will vanish. DeSantis should be lauded and emulated on this front.

You better believe that Ron DeSantis has a figurative, and all things considered from everything we have witnessed these past few years, perhaps a literal target on his back. It's a fair bet that if President-in-Exile Trump does not seek a third term in 2024, DeSantis is a (if not the) likely frontrunner. There is no mincing of words nor triangulation in standing up to what amounts to in-your-face fascistic totalitarianism. DeSantis gets it. Sadly, others like Kristi Noem do not. Of course, 2024 is an eternity from now and then again, there's the matter of having to cope with unbeatable Democrat political strategist Dao-Min Yen, but I digress.

In yesterday's comments, there was a back and forth about the motivations and sincerity of businesses that proclaim they support the Black Lives Matter terrorist organization. Appropriately enough, as we are in the midst of the Passover holiday, putting the hateful BLM logo in your window, like smearing the lambs blood on your door as a prophylaxis against the Angel of Death (Biblical, not Cuomo) slaying your first born is perhaps understandable. Although I recall a number of businesses in Kenosha and elsewhere that burned to the ground with, ironically, the only thing left intact being the BLM sign. In the early 70s, NYC crime family boss Joe Columbo started the Italian-American Anti-Defamation League to combat what he felt was hateful stereotyping of Italians as criminals. So, businesses forked over $100 and put the sign in their window -- or else they got their windows smashed.

With BLM and the closely-connected plague of cancel culture, fear is certainly a powerful motivating factor. Unfortunately, from Wall Street to corporate c-suites to Main Street USA (if it still exists [thanks Amazon]) far too many executives and business owners have been so thoroughly brainwashed courtesy of American academia that they are eager to utilize the collective power of our economy to subjugate the entire population in a way that even the most powerful totalitarian police state could only dream about. Nazi collaborator and convicted felon George Soros, his offspring and his entire network of shell corporations and his entire net worth (which sprang from the money looted off the Jews of Budapest in 1944) could disappear tomorrow, and it would still be a drop in the ocean compared to what we're really up against here.

When they've got us by the wallet, our hearts and minds will follow.

We get two NRA publications. Have for 25 years or more, and this month I noticed there were no Harbor Freight advertisements in either of them.

They were probably the only "big" chain I remember advertising in those magazines. Most of the other ads are "get this gold plated Trump 1911" or emergency food supply type silliness.

That lack of a Harbor Freight ad was noticeable. They know which way the wind is blowing.

I thought that kind of thing is why the armed forces can't legally mandate that all members get this vaccine. I know as well as the next guy that the law doesn't matter in the slightest anymore, but the rationale per my understanding is that since these vaccines are still experimental (the roll-out is the final stage of trials, and the largest clinical trial in history), their consumption cannot be mandated even in the armed forces.

I doubt that the vaccine is a device deliberately constructed to kill off people who receive it. But I also think that it was development was hurried, its initial testing was inadequate, that a lot of steps were skipped and there are far too many unknowns long-term. What happens when you're exposed after vaccination? How long does it last? What kind of side effects occur at scale? What happens 10 or more years from now?

There is a reason vaccine approval takes so long under ordinary circumstances, and all of that was skipped this time around. I even understand *why* these things were skipped this time, given that we were dealing with an unknown. We know a lot more now, though, and to me, in my risk assessment for myself, I view getting the vaccine as higher risk than not getting it. I am fairly young and fairly strong. I am fat and that's bad, but my odds of survival if I get the 'Vid are extremely high.

i took it because after doing a bit of research, i've seen that this type of vaccine has been in the research phase for over 10 years. i guess the intent is to make all vaccines in this manner. anecdotally, across my profession, those of us who have gotten the vaccine haven't had any issues so far. and many of those have been around or exposed to covid cases and had no issues. so maybe fortune smiles upon us on this one.

Yup. I am entirely in favor of people making their own decisions on this one. If I were 20 or 30 years older, I'd probably be in line to get it. If I had other serious comorbidities, I'd probably be in line to get it. I don't judge people who are getting it and I don't think it should be all-or-nothing. i do think the standard vaccine and general medicine approval process by the FDA et al is excessively long. so i'm a bit torn, but it feels like maybe the vaccine was rushed a bit. but could be just because of the "normal" process time.

side note, step dau was involved in trials for a treatment for burn victims using pineapple to break down dead skin. something related to the acid in it. now, it was a 2 year study and that was over 4 years ago and i still don't know if that has been approved for use in the US or not. now, the whole reason it was being tested here is because IT WAS APPROVED for use in europe and been for a couple years.

so the US forces mfgs to go through the whole process again, rather than just reviewing what haas been done and results from around the world...

ESPN is one of the reasons that I dropped traditional cable. It's too bad, too, because ESPN+ is the only way I have found to get foreign baseball on my smart TV. I am still looking for other methods to allow it. I miss baseball and am willing to pay for it, but not the MLB (between the wokeism and their new rule changes, it goes too far) and not ESPN. If I could pay the foreign leagues directly (Taiwan, Korea, Japan) to stream, I would. But I can't do that, so am looking for other means to stream it.

Yes. What the police did during the Berkeley riots back during the SCOAMF's administration was dangerous. They stood on the sidelines and watched rioters destroy property and hurt people, and did nothing. What they're doing now - actively siding with violent lawbreakers - is much, much more dangerous.

This is how you get two nasty outcomes: contempt for the law and vigilantism. The former is fully realized now for many, and many more are quickly on their way there. The latter comes naturally from the former once there are enough people on that side.

286 I'm tired of the BS that Asians are discriminated against if Universities want a balanced student body. Test scores, if you believe them and I don't, are not the only criteria that should be used. Schools could fill their entire classes with SATs above 1550, but should they?

Test scores are all very well and good in a limited way, but relying on them to the exclusion of other things (interviews, extra-curriculars, and involvement in community and church) is harmful.

I saw the test mess first hand in my grandson's second grade. The schools tell parents, "you can't study for it", but that's a lie. Test passing is an industry as early as pre-school, and a student who is taught how to pass always has an advantage.

I was temping somewhere and saw a job at another company. I saw that I had a connection to the HR person in charge of the hire, and that connection actually put me in contact with the hiring manager who handed it off to his subordinate to interview me.

Look for Lineage OS. It is android with the spyware removed. Android itself is open source licensed so anyone can use the OS but the apps that Googul packages with it are what use Android functions to spy on you.

To put Lineage on a phone, Dr. Boom is the guy who has done several. Basically, you buy an unlocked phone, download Lineage OS, and then flash your phone with the new OS. The major issue is that to avoid spyware, you have to not use Google's Play update app. There are some workarounds but require a bit of tech knowledge. The pure Linux phones are theoretically out there but expensive and hard to obtain. Dunno about the user experience.

An alternative is get a Faraday cage (electromagnetic shielded) and put your phone in it with the phone set to Airplane mode. Prevents the phone from tracking even passively as no signals can be sent through the cage. Depending on the circumstances, it may though drain your battery due to how cell phones work.
