Department of (In)Justice Admits That Maybe They Were Just Lying to Support The Next Democrat Propaganda Operation in Claiming There Was an Organized Armed "Insurrection"

But the Justice Department has since acknowledged in court hearings that some of its evidence concerning the riot -- carried out by a mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump to try to overturn his election loss -- is less damning than it initially indicated. The department suffered another blow this week when U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta threatened to impose a gag order on prosecutors after Michael Sherwin, its former head prosecutor on the Capitol cases, told CBS's "60 Minutes" program that evidence pointed toward sedition charges against some defendants. A charge of sedition -- meaning incitement of a rebellion -- has not been brought against any of the more than 400 people arrested to date. The most serious charges have been assault, conspiracy and obstruction of Congress or law enforcement. ... [M]issteps by the government could harm its credibility as accused ringleaders begin asking courts to drop some of the most serious charges. "They are trying to build the most horrendous cases they can because the public wants it -- and this is politicizing criminal justice," said Gerald B. Lefcourt, who for decades has represented high-profile defendants in political demonstrations, including Black Panther leaders and "Chicago Seven" trial figure Abbie Hoffman. The Justice Department declined to comment, saying it cannot discuss ongoing cases.Well, the lead attorney discussed it on 60 Minutes when he claimed he was about to start charging protesters with sedition. But he can't comment on something that damages his Democrat Propaganda Lies. Julie Kelly has been reporting on this thuggish, Third-World Banana Republic railroading of protesters and mere trespassers.
They have claimed that helmets were "weapons" to charge someone with being in possession of a weapon. And to propagandize that the "insurrectionists" were armed. And Kelly notes that prosecutors are now routinely taking people's political belief that the election was rigged as a valid reason to keep them in jail before a trial:

Or is there at least a branch of the Uniparty willing to pretend to be an opposition party? Has a single GOP office-holder, or a single paid commentator for Conservative, Inc., objected to this overcharging of Americans? Pushed back at all against this rampant denial of due process? Said a peep about a militarized police force holding protesters in jail without bail while convicted killers are set free? Even mentioned the rampant abuse of wiretapping to go on fishing expeditions to see which Trump voters can be charged with some contrived crime? Has a single elected official pointed out that it's unconstitutional to criminalize a political belief? No, not a one. They're all in on it. I can no longer support a corrupt, cowardly party that only pretends to oppose the fascist socialists. And now they're talking about putting Trump supporters who have committed no crime -- except to deny that the 2020 election was just and fair -- on a no-fly terrorist watch list!

The DOJ and many of the judges have denied bail, caused great suffering economically of relatively poor people, used vague and misleading intercepts of social media posts to make grandiose claims, and overcharging to a ridiculous nature in order to get guilty pleas to wave in front of the press.
Every single one of these DOJ prosecutors needs to be doing hard time in supermax along with judges that tolerate this crap.
It is time to remove any immunity from civil lawsuits or prosecution for prosecutors and judges for acts committed ultra vires (beyond the law).

But the USSR was always - always, even at it's "high point" of true widespread joy/relief, May 1945 - a grim police state with nearly zero genuine grassroots devotion OR actual principles or history of institutions following any such principles.
The US was quite different. In the USSR, a hollow and evil, deadening system finally disintegrated. In the US, a uniquely good and mostly successful system with built-in capacity for fixing itself and evolving is disintegrating.

In our case, any real fiscal discipline disappeared since the 1990's and that artifact was largely possible because the Cold War ended the need to spend so much for defense. During the Bill Clinton regime, we stopped being a serious country because of hubris among our elites.
What we are seeing now is the dying of the New Deal regime that was instituted during the time of FDR, likewise the Civil War was the death of the original republic over slavery, and GOP progressivism was the regime from the 1860's to the 1930's. Each took about 70-80 years or so. Roughly the same amount of time that the Sov. Union existed, the Mexican PRI regime lasted, and similar changes in the British political system.
There is some utility in the idea of turnings in human society and they seem about 70-90 years in length.

Yup. I would argue, though, that what's ending isn't the FDR/New Deal era, but the Post-War/Bretton Woods era. They can't necessarily be entirely divorced, but the New Deal and FDR put to bed the prior era and would have taken over if not for the War. That particular event essentially ended everything and what came out the other side was all new. The Post-War world order is in the process of cracking up now.
I suspect I won't like what comes out the other side of this turn.

Possibly nothing, at least not formally. The USD became the formal reserve currency at Bretton Woods, but that is fairly unusual in history. International settlements and pricing currencies are often not a single currency, and sometimes not currency at all (sometimes it is a commodity). We may end up back to proxying everything through gold or oil or something similar. Or a moving goalpost like the Special Drawing Right (an IMF pseudocurrency backed by a large basket of currencies). A single, formal "reserve currency" may not appear at all once the current Post-War world order ends.
But regardless of what replaces it, the lack of constant foreign demand for dollars for settlement and commodity pricing purposes puts an end to a lot of the game-playing and will expose a lot of the rottenness throughout the system. It will be painful. There are no non-painful options. The last few rounds of pre-'Rona profligacy ended the "grow out of it" possibility.

My favorite take on that sort of time switch is when Marty comes back from the clean, bright 1950s at the end of Back to the Future to discover the trash filled town square with a bum sleeping on a bench, and he's ecstatic to be back. Like the 50s were a hell hole and the 80s were a paradise. Really it was just him getting home, but the glee at see the trashy 80s instead of the clean 50s has always entertained me.

The current oligarchy is unstable because they really do not have the support of the people in the US but are there because no one can think of someone better to run things. In essence, the elites are trying to hold on despite no one really believing in the American way anymore. Managerial authority declines via screwups like Chernobyl plus special privileges and causes the moral authority declines of the admin state. Coercion is not a substitute in the long run because people develop coping mechanisms outside the ability of the managers to coerce them. BTW, the vast majority of asylum seekers don't get asylum after their hearing, because they are not qualified. Of course, the foreigners know this, and they are coached by lefty activists on the "right" words they need to say, but most still don't meet the legal requirements, because they're coming here for economic reasons, not to escape political persecution or violence, which is what asylum is supposed to be reserved for. But the foreigners denied asylum simply ignore the orders to leave, and continue to live illegally in the U.S., at a cost of many billions of dollars to us.
