Kristi Noem Rejects Bill to Save Girls' Sports for Biological Girls After Intense Lobbying By... You Guessed It, Corporate Interests

KristiNoem.jpg

Good. She's out of the running for higher office. Done.

Next.

Her pretexts for not signing the bill are just that -- pretexts. She's not signing it because our corporate overlords -- especially our tech overlords -- have mandated that Trans Women are Women for all purposes, no exceptions, including eligibility in contact sports like judo.

The staunch conservative took issue with the wording of the legislation, alleging it left schools and team players vulnerable to lawsuits, and created "unworkable administrative burden[s] on schools" by forcing them to require yearly forms proving sex, age and lack of "performance-enhancing drugs."

But most notably, she rejected their calls for bans at the collegiate level, telling lawmakers it could mean South Dakota athletes lose out in national tournaments, as the NCAA has inclusion policies for transgender student athletes.

"While I certainly do not always agree with the actions these sanctioning bodies take, I understand that collegiate athletics requires such a system -- a fifty-state patchwork is not workable," she said.

...

The state's House passed the bill in February with strong support in a 50-17 vote. But the Senate proved more divided with a 20-15 vote, falling short of the needed two-thirds majority to bypass the governor.

Apparently she's running for president of the socially-leftwing Chamber of Commerce, which is an absolute cancer on the conservative movement that must be excised and then burned to charcoal in a kiln.

Inez Stepman
@InezFeltscher

What's happening in SD right now is that Gov Noem is allowing private interests to dictate the cultural & legal policy of the state, over strong majorities of actual voters. We need to stand up to woke corporate pressure & do it now,or girls' sports will not be the last casualty.

If Gov Noem is not a standard bearer who will do this, I guess it's better that we know now. Because the battle with woke capital will be a critical part of the political future -- if we have one.

Trump was the first R since Reagan to push back against the cultural left. No one who doesn’t understand that should be in consideration for national office.

What happened with Kristi Noem is a great example of why you NEVER fall in love with a potential presidential candidate too early. In politics, there are a million ways you can take your candidacy out back and shoot it in the back of the head. As she just did.

Them: "If you ban men from women’s sports, Amazon and the universities will leave your state."

A person who understands what’s happening in America: "Ok. So what's the bad news?"

Explanation?

67 SD is like Delaware. A state with about 18 residents people that has a bunch of global corps HQed there for tax purposes. In the case of SD its banking. SD has more banking assets than any other state. Or at least it did recently.

What did you expect the governor would do when Corps said jump, other than ask how high?
Posted by: Joe XiDen

Break up the big banks.

I have a simple way to do it: The government can reduce its guaranteed protection of customers' money if a bank gets larger than $X total dollars controlled.

Right now a bank will cover $100,000 of your money if the bank loses it.

But if a bank gets bigger than x dollars under management, the government says, we're scaling back the protection. Only up to $50,000 per customer if the bank is at Y size, only $25,000 per customer if the bank is at Z size. Etc.

Customers will naturally want to move money out of these overly large banks.

It doesn't involve any additional government entanglement, just a modification of a current entanglement that is never going away so stuff the "In an ideal world, the government wouldn't guarantee anyone's accounts..." I'm so tired of that dodge. WE DO NOT LIVE IN THIS "IDEAL WORLD" THAT CRANKS ARE ALWAYS NUTTERING ON ABOUT. WHEN WE ALL COLLECTIVELY MIGRATE TO THIS "IDEAL WORLD" ALTERNATE DIMENSION, THEN WE CAN TALK MORE ABOUT YOUR "IDEAL WORLD" PLANS AND SCHEMES.

106 >>>44 So she thinks that the bill is poorly written and wants it changed, and is exercising her primary option to try and force the legislature to do so, and this now makes her a traitor?

The bill as-drafted has four (section), all not very long ones. Her "correction" entirely cuts 2 of 4 sections and edits the other two to exclude higher education. These changes are not just correcting grammar or clearing ambiguities.

Democrats are pretty much immune, because they're corrupt, and their base expects them to be corrupt. Just a thought.

Akshually that's a pretty blurry line since the NCAA is made up of representatives of the kollidges. For example, Gene Smith, the athletic director of The Ohio State University who remarkably escaped penalty when the Sweater Vest was caught doing not legal things regarding how he ran his football program, gets dragged out on Final Four selection day to mutter something incomprehensible when it seems a school was unjustly included or excluded. But yes, it pretty much involves just athletics. Except Jerry Sandusky.

But if the NCAA does not led SD teams compete against other teams across the board because of a few women's sports that are affected, that is a serious threat to those athletic programs.

Not saying this veto is right, it's just that there are more people's actual livelihoods in the balance than just the large corporate interests.

If 2020 proved ANYTHING to the International Aristocratic Cabal, it's that you you do targeted things to get your desired outcome. What matters is crossing whatever numerical threshold is required to dictate or deny policy. Notice that in the five "swung" states, each strategy was different. They did their homework - first on how to do the steal itself, then how to cover up the steal to make away with their loot. This was a combination of intimidating (not necessarily bribing, though that happened to) the correct specific key lawyers, judges, and elected and appointed officials. You only have to go after the ones that matter.

And here, all they needed to do is pressure ONE governor and a couple of State Senators. And now that they know it's possible ONCE, now that they know it works, they will keep repeating what works (for them).

LEARN THIS, PEOPLE.

I am sure this is very true for some universities. But which ones, and why? It is like saying that if the donut shop did not give out handys and blowies with every dozen donuts, their business would drop off.

Maybe if those checks stopped, the schools would worry more about providing a useful education so that the graduates made a lot of money and felt grateful?

Now, universities should have some PE facilities -- there's nothing wrong with that (except when they turn into multimillion-dollar spas rather than a few basketball hoops on asphalt). Kids do need exercise, and being a scholar doesn't always make it easy to get such.

But there's no "exercise" involved with sitting on your ass in bleachers, and that's the closest 99% of the students will ever come to the football team.

230 Now, universities should have some PE facilities -- there's nothing wrong with that (except when they turn into multimillion-dollar spas rather than a few basketball hoops on asphalt). Kids do need exercise, and being a scholar doesn't always make it easy to get such.

But there's no "exercise" involved with sitting on your ass in bleachers, and that's the closest 99% of the students will ever come to the football team.

Vesey, Kerfoot, Killorn. They really have quite a hockey team most years.
Point being - there are maybe 30 schools that really exist as big providers of football and basketball players to the pros. The rest make little or no money off college sports, but still provide them as something that makes the university life complete.

Why do you think it is the schools responsibility to offer entertainment? There are plenty of outside options, and shouldn't students create their own clubs and organizations? This takes control out of the students, and gives it to the administrators to "program" it using professional recruited out of HS.

Because the law doesn't work that way. Often such "simple" language ends up with a bunch of unintended side-effects. It's somewhat like writing a program: you have to be very explicit in what you want the computer to do or else it will do exactly what you tell it and not what you intended.

379 Women will not band together to stop competition from biological men. The infiltration of men into women's sports is starting slowly, and those women in "safe" sports won't stand up for their fellow women in the tainted sports. They want to compete and win championships, at least while they can.

Everyone wants to keep their heads down and hope the woke tsunami swallows them last.

380 Oh, and I'm here.
I think that girls should stop relying on the government to save them from these insane people who should be receiving medical treatment for their gender dysphoria. They just should not compete. They should walk out on the track and sit down. It is unfair competition. They are not little kids. They can make their voices and opinions heard. I think it is embarassing that they are just accepting this.

Bears repeating -- if you are out in public, know what is around you. Find exits. Don't always look for doors. Windows work too (a lot of people overlook that). If you have to fight, look for weapons. In a grocery store -- get behind the meat counter where there are knives. Look for fire extinguishers. Near the housegoods aisle? Get wasp spray. Stay in the fight.

386 Grudge Harbor, then they deserve what they get. Just wait til it starts with tennis and golf and basketball and swimming etc. This will be the end of women's sports. There will never be a record broken by a biologic woman. It is just ridiculous that feminists who were all about equality for women are silent on this.

Posted by: sharon(willow's apprentice) at March 22, 2021 06:06 PM (sd8p8)

387 Basically there are going to be two sports divisions from now on:

1) men's sports
2) tranny sports.

I expect a substantial portion of the second group won't be actual crazoid trannies, but just cynical and calculating men who aren't quite good enough to make the men's teams, but still want those sweet, sweet athletic scholarships.

I mean, "trans-lesbian" is a thing, right? So you can believe you're a woman trapped in a man's body, but you still want to have sex with women? Don't attempt to dictate my gender, haters!

I think it's just early in the cycle. One of the unfortunate consequences of postponing the Summer Olympics last year was that it would have taken this trans-issue front and center of people's attention. It's hard to ignore trans-folks winning Olympic medals on world TV. It could very well have gotten Trump re-elected. For now it's just a few isolated cases and, let's be honest, few care about woman's sports outside of the Olympics. When it becomes an international story too big to ignore, let's see what happens then.

Curious things just outside the store. One person lying on the ground on what looks like the main route into the parking lot, about 10 feet from a vehicle in the road.

Another person lying on the ground a few feet from another vehicle (looks like the running lights may be on). That vehicle is on the sidewalk at the bottom of a wheelchair ramp. Person is at the very base of the ramp next to the guardrail.

401 396: One advantage we will have with the Summer Olympics pushed to this year is that we will have roughly six months-1 year of intensive Olympic coverage, the way it used to be when both Olympics were held in the same year (as it was from 1924-1992). So such issues will be kept front and center for awhile.

404 Ace, although you didn't necessarily have to boldface all 5 lines of it to convey the point, you are correct. The libertoids have preached that the "government can't pick the winners." If they really believed that, they wouldn't support the same protections & kickbacks for the 2020s monopoly men. The fact is, Jeff Bezos got rich off taxpayer money (DOD's other divisions not involved in maternity jet flight). Arguably, Google and Apple ran the same scam on education spending.

Our policies are over time going to be on the side of one interest group or another, it is childish to pretend otherwise. Intelligent statecraft would prioritize policies in the interest of the largest number of citizens, not the fewest, cleverest, "most efficient" ones who are endowed with inalienable rights by Ayn Rand and Robert Heinlein. The child-mind libertoids can't get a grip on this, they are consumed with zombie laissez-faire cosplay from an age of industrial capitalism, as opposed to the financialized/rentier economy we have today.

405 I was keen to hear Gov. Noem's defense on Tucker Carlson this evening. I want(ed) to like her. Her explanation struck me as lame. I get that she wants to form a coalition to oppose the NCAA. But why must that precede the legislation? And how would the legislation make it harder for girls to compete? Gov. Noem's answer seemed to involve some handwaving about how the state would have to sue the NCAA, and would probably lose.

Maybe she has a good reason for her action. I couldn't make it out from what she said tonight. If I'm not alone, this was a major missed opportunity.

Noem's "top advisor" is "controversial behind-the-scenes power broker" Matt McCaulley. Clients include Sanford Health, which owns Sanford Sports Complex, a Sioux Falls arena that hopes to lure NCAA tourneys. Lawmakers worried about conflict of interest.
McCaulley controversial behind-the-scenes power broker in Pierre
For someone who doesn't hold elected office, attorney Matt McCaulley of Sioux Falls, has amassed a significant amount of political clout, and he is among the most influential people in https://t.co/w1ZyQtRHpm?amp=1

"his work for Noem over the past 15 months, while continuing to lobby for 16 private clients, has raised some eyebrows in Pierre. The dual role - well known by decision-makers in Pierre - could give McCaulley unfair and undue influence to affect policy and legislation"

Noem's chief of staff, Tony Venhuizen, is on the board of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, another group opposed to protecting women's sports.
