Biden Demands That White House Staffers Resign Over Past Pot Use

Thereby betraying one of the Democrat Party's most fanatical constituencies, and that's not a joke. That's real.

They told staffers to answer the drug questions honestly, and promised that "Yes" answers to the question about prior marijuana use would be "overlooked."

But then: They told them to resign.

A number of White House staffers were asked to resign or demoted for past marijuana use -- regardless of whether those employees had been in one of the 14 states where the drug is legal, according to a report.

The Biden administration had required workers to disclose past marijuana use on a background check form, but told some new hires that it would "overlook" those who answered yes, the Daily Beast reported.

Despite this, White House director of management and administration Anne Filipic reportedly led a series of one-on-one calls with staffers this month, asking those who admitted to past marijuana use to resign or be placed in a remote work program.

Good luck staffing a Democrat government if you toss out the pot-heads.

Are purple-haired Gender Studies Majors the next to be purged? Getting rid of the pot-heads and then the purple-hairs would reduce the Democrat party to half-strength.

But they would never do that.

Or...

Would they?

Bonus:

Good question:

@JordanSchachtel

Is collapsing while walking up the stairs a side effect of having a stutter?

In case you don't get that: the media and the DNC (but I repeat myself) claim that all of Biden's gaffes, losses of memory, and general mental fatigue are side-effects of a "stutter" he claims to have but which we've never heard.

So I guess the Phantom Stutter has spread to his feet.

e. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?
Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.

208 127 Marcus T,
Everyone that has a state medical card to get pot in states that do that sort of thing are on the disqualified list via the FBI, even if they have not bought nor consumed marijuana. Anyone actually using marijuana, regardless of medical conditions, are also barred from buying or possessing a firearm with serious penalties also for lying on form 4473 if they do.

The 4473 lying is rarely prosecuted but often tacked on as an additional charge. The drug possession and firearm arrests based on prohibited person status are more often prosecuted and are often illegal under state law as well. In a lot of states, being boozed up and having a firearm (and sometimes other weapons) on you is also illegal.

This policy is standard in FedGov for mission and safety critical jobs. For example, NASA flight directors, flight controllers, and engineering flight system specialists get random drug tests.

But I expect the Usual Suspecs will howl about the policy applying to Dem WH staff, even though I'd say working in the WH is a job where screw-ups are pretty-danged undesirable.

Congress, when using its commerce clause jurisdiction correctly and explicitly to ban something, with some nexus to interstate commerce, trumps state law. Something like the Constitution's Supremacy clause makes that stick.

So, the company is based in NY and FL, both of which are not legal-weed states, but we have many employees in legal states. Like me, in CO.

The general policy is: don't do anything illegal. Meaning, it's illegal in national parks regardless of states and so on. So, if you live in a state where it's not legal, don't do it. I've known guys who had high level clearances who admitted to lots of drug use in their past. The goal of the process is to make sure that you're not going to be a security risk. A twenty-something who hasn't smoked in 5-10 years probably isn't a big risk. The risk is that they did more than buy a dimebag of oregano from some guy in their organic chem class back in 2015. Addiction or criminal behavior (such as selling drugs) makes someone vulnerable to blackmail.

One thing that goes on when the brain starts to fail is your coordination of hand/foot and eye become out of sync. My rule of thumb is that whenever a woman modifies her body, tattoos, hair color/cut, piercings, etc., she's trying to reassert some control because she lacks control in other areas of her life. Women tend towards externalizing emotional pain by transforming it into physical pain. See also: cutters.

Her character was played a lot younger than that, but yeah. Rogue in the X-Men movies was a good example of a character done differently than the source material that still worked pretty well.

They used her instead of Kitty as the naif innocent girl whose powers are a struggle because the entire plot of the first film required Rogue's powers and her personality was not very well developed in the comics. I mean other than being basically schizophrenic.

414 300 Synova,
There is no federal permit for firearms per se, but under federal law, anyone using illegal drugs defined by federal law is a prohibited person just as someone who is guilty of a felony and certain misdemeanors is. That means that it is illegal to even hold someone else's legal firearm or have constructive possession of them.

The question above dealt with form 4473 that is required for all purchases from a federal licensed gun dealer. On that form, there is an explicit question about drug usage with answering yes resulting in the federal licensee being unable to proceed with the transaction. Even a private seller is at legal jeopardy to sell to a prohibited person such as a felon or drug user which includes anyone answering yes as not eligible under the 4473 questions.

452 407 rick223b and garrett.

I agree with you, garrett, that our drug laws need to be changed at the national level.

Rick223b,
One of the common ways that these cases can end up in court is by testimony from an ancillary matter--e.g. snitched on by disgruntled other people in your life such as an ex or relative or someone looking to get substantial assistance reduction in their own sentencing such as a drug dealer going down for big time. They then flip on anyone that they know that carries and smokes. Prosecutors get more scalps, drug dealer gets a break by testifying about people less likely to hurt them such as their own sources, etc.

We have a legal system, not a justice system in this country and to put it mildly, we have legal anarchy which gives both police, judges, and prosecutors leeway to pursue their own ends.

For four years we've been told that Trump defied the dignity of the office. Then Biden sends a negotiator with purple hair. As is so often the case, it's not the behavior by itself, it's how it is totally cool when one side does it, but is "OMG, muh norms and dignity of the presidency!" when anyone else does it.

I don't care that much either way, but given the double standard I am OK with people "seizing" and "pouncing" on stuff like this. If it's a scandal when Donny gets two scoops, then it can be a scandal when he sends obvious amateurs to negotiate with China, even if it's just preformative.

509 466...We had all of that and more legal here and there for most of this country's history. The key is that social welfare legislation made it more of the government's business. And, it turns out, if you give subsidies based on drug use such as disability or general subsidies for being unwilling to work in general, you get more substance abuse.

The self esteem movement also made its show because social disapprobation of obvious drug users or sots was clearly shown by society.

In the end, you will be controlled more or less by societal conventions or government. Government today can lock you up and even kill you resisting arrest for some law passed for your own good, society can make you an unperson which could and did mean a really difficult road to hoe in the past based on that same standard. So flip a coin or buy a desert island to be your own government and society.

He was the best new character they created. Very interesting, I'd have loved to have seen his backstory and why he flipped in the first scene and joined the rebels.

What they should have done is delete the lame fake Han Solo replacement and have him be the pilot. Every scene with lame Han Fauxlo, have it the storm trooper instead.

People always care. It has always been a lie that we can live in a world of license and everything will be great. The choice is what type of society you want to live in. The Left said we didn't need to make those choices. So, Christianity, Western Civ., etc. could all be tossed aside. Of course, they replaced it with their own choices.

So, let's say we decriminalize drugs. Do druggies get to adopt kids? Do they welfare? What do we do with the ones living on the street? How about if someone is high and kills someone, even accidentally? Can businesses refuse to hire, rent, or provide services for them?

Society is about trade-offs between order, liberty, and morality.

That was actually a huge plot hole IMO. He was taken as a child, to the extent he doesn't even remember his own name, indoctrinated, brainwashing, all of it... And his programming cracks on his first firefight because a guy dies? The Marines produce better results in three months, on adults. The First Order had the worst ideological conformity department in fiction.

The Star Wars movies, even the OT, were always bad at making sense. The Empire existed for only a dozen years, but Jedi are a myth? Luke is hiding under his own family name from the Empire and is thinking of applying to the Imperial Navy without a peep from auntie and uncle? Princess Leia could show up in a ruling family as a means to hide herself?

The prequels and sequels make even less sense in themselves and of course in following the OT.

604 Born in '64. Only the stoners smoked pot when I was in high school. There was supposedly not even harder stuff available because it was a rural area.

But I didn't drink either. I don't think it was because I was religious because I didn't think that having a drink would be sinful (even when I was underage) but I'm *extremely* socially anxious and dreaded not being in control and doing something stupid and getting laughed at. I would never risk it.

And then I was sober around drunk people enough to have that confirmed and enforced. Drunk didn't look fun at all. Drunk people are generally obnoxious, even when they're nice drunks.

Posted by: Oldcat at March 19, 2021 03:14 PM (eoQWY)

Luke's aunt and uncle kept stopping from applying. There's lots of planets in Star Wars, checking the parentage

Proportionally there were always few Jedi(10,000 before Order 66) in a galaxy spanning republic, and the Empire lasted ~23 years. They don't connect to the terminal. The plane stays away from the building and inside a security cordon. They drive the VIP directly to the aircraft and he climbs up and boards. I think this has to do with security considerations. To keep things entirely controlled, they bring the mountain to Mohammed and not the other way around.

The Jedi RAN the military operations of the Republic before the Empire, see the prequels. The officer of the Navy quoting the mythical power of the Jedi and was choked by Vader in the OT was a senior officer, old enough that this was in his own experience. He can't have forgotten this in just a few years.

There were always few knights in Medieval Europe, but everyone knew what they were and did.

But with a good plot and characters, the viewer can put it aside for the story.

You mean that about 27 percent of some income comes from borrowing money or taxes.

Government has no income other than what it borrows or takes via taxes and fees (and a trivial amount from other sources of income such as arbitrage on coinage and fed reserve returns on bond sales).

The Jedi didn't have the numbers to run even the low end estimates of the Republic's military. Yes some were high ranking officers but proportionally very few people would've met them. There's scale and narrative contradictions but Jedi are rare. Of that group, who are named characters, only Tarkin was from the era. Even if all Jedi lived on Coruscant, very few people would've ever met one.

There's a scene in the prequels of the Jedi Council deciding where to send troops, then remembering that they had forgotten about the wookie planet. That is direction above the admiral level, and all staff officers would know when that came about.

The problem is that legalization promoters do not address is that basically have to unravel our current social society based on government benefits, interference with employment laws, child welfare, and other second and third order effects such as hospitalization, drug treatment, workplace safety, and liability.

Modern society is very complex and it is like a sweater with a loose string, you start pulling on one, the sweater can start unraveling. Leftists do this all the time--e.g. harassment becomes hate speech becomes exception to 1st Amendment which broadens to include all speech government doesn't like because it hurts someone's feelings.
In a society where people control is largely by social and not government along with strong local, and state federalism to run society, we could get along with laissez faire regarding drugs and even alcohol. Easy exit from local areas if you dissented was the norm. But now people that are dissatisfied with their own community and consistently lose are animated to band together and either impose state or national laws that force their hated rivals into submission. Eventually, something has to give.
