The Morning Report - 3/11/21 [J.J. Sefton]

ashe copy.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and I get the sense we're living through the plot of Alien. The embryonic monster has already eaten the living guts out of Kane, burst through his chest and is running wild through the labyrinth of decks, ducts and detritus in the Nostromo, trailing acid and growing stronger, and hungrier. Meanwhile, while the sane half of the crew wants to kill the damned thing, Ashe insists it should be captured and Dallas and Ripley are dithering as the crew are picked off one by one. Too late, Ripley discovers that Ashe is an android whose prime mission is to ensure the survival of the beast, at the expense of his human colleagues. Kind of reminds me of something -- the GOP.

[Marcia] Fudge is also a racial conspiracy theorist with a history of spouting wacko ideas.

In April 2020, she made the ridiculous claim during a Biden campaign live stream rally that the COVID-19 pandemic proves that America is systemically racist. "Black people have always been aware of systemic and institutional racism. COVID-19 just proved to the rest of the country that it exists," she said. "If we do not elect Joe Biden, we will not recover in my lifetime. I'm not being dramatic, I'm being honest."

The worst thing about her confirmation is that Fudge, a radical, race-baiting conspiracist, was confirmed 66-34.

Do the math: Sixteen Republicans voted for this wacko...

...In the wake of the death of George Floyd last spring, Fudge also seemed to encourage the violence and rioting that resulted. "George Floyd's murder just brought to the surface generations of pain," Fudge said during a virtual town hall hosted by the NAACP. "We have to make sure we strike when the iron is hot."

Yet she got sixteen Republicans to support her confirmation? Excuse me?

Senator Pat Toomey was one of her vocal critics. "The confirmation of Cabinet secretaries is one of the most important constitutional functions that we have in the Senate," Toomey said on Wednesday. He argued that cabinet secretaries must be able to "work productively with Congress" but said he is "concerned that Rep. Fudge's past rhetoric makes clear that she lacks the temperament to cooperate with Congress... and cast doubt on whether she even wants to."

Toomey also called out her pattern of "attacking and disparaging the motives of Republicans with whom she has policy disagreements."

If someone like Fudge can be confirmed 66-34, then what kind of radical will Republicans put up a fight over? The same woman who pleaded for leniency for a domestic abuser said Republicans "disgrace to the nation."

But wait, there's more!

How did Fudge get sixteen Republicans to vote for her confirmation? And How did Garland get twenty?

Rest assured, I'm not calling for blanket opposition to Biden's nominees. That is not a good strategy. But fighting the nominations of exceptionally bad nominees should be an easy thing for the GOP to unify and rally behind. Yet they're not.

Let's review the case against Garland. Garland refused to commit to protecting special counsel John Durham's investigation into the Obama-Biden administration's spying on the Trump campaign, or to release his report to the public. He also refused to call Antifa's attacks on federal buildings domestic terrorism and evaded questions about how he would enforce immigration policy, amongst many other things. In fact, he routinely evaded questions from Senate Republicans during his confirmation hearings -- and repeatedly claimed to be unaware of situations cited by Republicans in their questioning. Whether you actually believed he was ignorant of current events, or just didn't want to answer, it was unfathomable that anyone so ignorant or cagey could be confirmed by the U.S. Senate -- let alone in a bipartisan vote.

Bipartisan means we're bi and they're partisan. The GOP is not an opposition party. The GOP is merely a subsidiary of the Democrat-Globalist junta. Meanwhile, in a not unrelated story as I shall elucidate, Gavin Newsom and Angel of Death Cuomo are facing the very real prospect of being ejected from the governors' mansions of California and New York respectively. The behind the scenes inter-Democrat Party political machinations aside, the removals cannot really happen unless there is a perceived mass public support for that removal - the overthrowing of President Trump and the stealing of the election notwithstanding; I'm talking Democrats here, not real Americans. These are the bluest of the blue flagship socialist entities from whence much of the political muscle of the Left emanates, and yet there is dissatisfaction, discontent and even disgust with these two momzers, and it's coming from the base.

But, let's say these two get the chop and deservedly so. Who do you think is going to replace them? Forget for a moment the political machines installing their preferred replacements, the salient point is does this dissatisfied, discontented and disgusted base for a moment understand that the root of their anger is not a question of personality but a question of policy? Over 40 years ago, New Yorkers were fed up with 20 years of crime, corruption and urban decay and finally in 1993 voted for Rudy Giuliani who, riding the crest of the national revival brought about by Ronald Reagan, turned New York into a truly wonderful place to live and work. Mind you, the city was a Democrat bastion even then. But the question is are today's Democrats still Democrats, or are they brainwashed socialists who will do nothing as they change deck chairs on the Titanic? The safe bet is on the latter, and yet when you can strip away the fog of media propaganda and look at the real vote totals minus the fraud from 2016, Trump won more votes across a broader spectrum of race and ethnicity across the country than perhaps any other candidate with maybe the exception of FDR. There was and remains a feeling that America is way off course. The actions of this junta are only going to compound that exponentially in the weeks, months and (feh!) years ahead. That is, if the policies implemented don't kill us off first.

Meanwhile, the GOP sits there in a pool of milky hydraulic fluid telling us "you have my sympathies" knowing full well, at least from its perspective, that the alien is ultimately going to sink its mechanical maw into our vitals.

Somebody get me that flamethrower while I set the auto-destruct sequence.

Montgomery Co. MD. is the county I grew up in back in the 60's - 80's. It, and Prince George Co. are adjacent to Washington D.C. so you can imagine what that's like. In the 70's it was a focus for the academic indoctrination efforts by the left. I remember me, and my parents having some serious issues with teachers and some of the leftist shit they were pushing in both Jr. and High school.

79 Minneapolis is gonna burn no matter the outcome of the trial. And frankly they deserve it for running a once great city and state into the ground in just a few short years of donkface fuckery. Yeah, sure, there's 15 percent or so of the locals in Hennepin County that aren't retarded, but maybe it's time to seek a more defensible position?

I'm a bitchy agnostic so it's pretty rare that I make any sort of biblical reference, but post-2020 is that sort of crazy and the current state of the Western cities really reminds me of that story in the Old Testament about Sodom and Gomorrah getting rekt. There was that one guy that wasn't totally worthless, and so he got a memo from the almighty saying "gather your dudes and run the fuck away, because this shit here is about to get real."

The fire and the brimstone are coming. Right thinking people can no longer stop it--not in the fallen cities--so those in its path need to get serious about looking after their future.

No I missed that. I assume that's for RINO Portman's seat next year. Jerry Rivers would be well advised to look for another Al Capone tomb as a more productive expenditure of time. I won't impugn the intelligence of the voters statewide after they solidly supported the Golden Scalpweasel and after Portman's Merrick Garland vote the only risk is too many MAGA candidates knocking each other off in next year's primary. I expect heavy DJT involvement next year which will help.

Yeah. Social Security, IIRC invests exclusively in the US government securities (to prevent the world's biggest pension fund from distorting the equity and bond markets, and to help avoid massive corruption that would make the union pension fund "investments" in the 60s and 70s look like child's play). The Fed has been crushing interest rates for a long time now. They started to creep up under Trump for a couple of years, but they got sent back into the turf to finance the 'Rona response.

Perhaps there are some things going on in the background we're not privy to and he did do just that. But as optimistic and positive as he was, not to mention, very protective of his brand and its core mission, he had to have known his time was coming.

145 Social Security, IIRC invests exclusively in the US government securities (to prevent the world's biggest pension fund from distorting the equity and bond markets, and to help avoid massive corruption that would make the union pension fund "investments" in the 60s and 70s look like child's play).

Having social security play winners and losers with stocks would be an outrage too great to have happened. So far...

Actually it probably never will because it would fracture the oligarchs.

They don't even know who Biden is. The only reason Biden got the nod is a tangential link to Obama and a belief they had that he was their only chance to win. If you asked them to write a two paragraphs about Biden, they would have no chance.

surprised that Rush didn't map out a plan for EIB, how the show would

Maybe he did, but it appears to be entering a flailing stage now.
Perhaps there are some things going on in the background we're not privy
to and he did do just that. But as optimistic and positive as he was,
not to mention, very protective of his brand and its core mission, he
had to have known his time was coming.

Rush doesn't own three hours at noon eastern on 600 stations. It's the stations that put him on the air because he generates revenue. Without him, the revenue stream ceases to exist, no matter who the EIB hires. That person has to have the ratings to entice the stations that carried Rush to carry the successor.

325 I just read the "Rush Article". American Thinker usually puts out great stuff, and I am sure that author does as well, though I don't follow the site that much. But no way was that an important article in my view. Sounds like someone who started listening to Rush a few years ago, not 30 years ago like so many of us like many of us. Maybe he is right but is it really that maudlin? They are trying to figure out a new way.

The key about Rush is 90 percent of conservative values are timeless. Yes the times change, but the main arguments and battles do not. Sure we can't keep relying on a many that passed away, i get that. But still, if you want anything to do with EIB, I don't see how some Rush commentary from time to time will hurt. Maybe it is my love of history and assumption most of the best stuff has already been said in one way or the other.

They need to implement the Reuben Hick Time Management Plan:

Eliminate all time zones and base everything on UTC. We are a globally connected world and it is a pain to schedule a teleconference with people in South Africa, London and NYC offices since UK and the US don't share the same DST conversion dates.

You can still wake up and go to sleep on the same schedule, just your time reference will be Zulu rather than the politically manipulated time dictated by politicians. No more splitting states, no more wondering what TZ to convert your calendar invite.

Nah, that's their cover. There's a national registry, they aren't destroying the records, and it's available to law enforcement. They're just straight up lying about it.

They tracked a pistol used to cap 2 New York cops to a guy who'd sold it to a pawn shop somewhere in the South years before, within a week or so, and then pretended they figured it out 'using the pawn shop records'.

That's why 'new' firearm serial numbers, the caliber and type of weapon need to be in 'your' background check, see, to figure out if that gun that just came off the factory floor had been used in a crime years and years ago. Because it's a 'background' check, for you, see?

SCOTUS itself decides who votes on cases, or, indeed, who even gets to hear the cases. The Senate can confirm as many justices as it chooses, but the Constitution does not require Roberts to do anything other than seat the justices they pack. Alien is a testament to the power of craft when it comes to making a movie. It's just so incredibly well made in every department that it's involving even decades after its release.

When Ripley goes back for Jonesy, the cat, and the xenomorph pops out while Mother counts down the self-destruct, steam is pumping out of pipes, and the alarm just won't go quiet, it's tense no matter how much you already know that Ripley's going to get out alive.

Fox's in house editors wanted to make an expanded edition of Alien for a DVD release. They showed it to Ridley Scott who thought it was terrible, so he oversaw the "Director's Cut", which he outright says is not a director's cut in his video introduction to it. It replaces existing scenes with cut scenes, offering an alternate look at the film.

So, it could have been worse, but nothing will ever replace the theatrical cut.

416 Cuz I was a programmer once, and building a system that can capture the text data they collect on your background form is a piece of cake that could be easily implemented with technology from 1982.

Have you handled twenty year old documents that have been filled out by hand stored in a musty basement in an old filing cabinet?

OCR isn't that good. Heck, I'm working with ALPR and those devices aren't anywhere near 100% on strict lettering on high contrast license plates. They are remarkably fast as guessing though.

419 These bureaucratic rules raising pay of individuals because of Covid is simply the leftist ruse to get their favored demographic pay raises to buy their vote. Additionally they typically have no experience to balance budgets or be aware of actual costs of doing business.

420 Spaceballs probably did a lot to make the Alien less scary. Not detracting from the film in any way, but that comic adaption did what it meant to do.

As per director's cuts, I have seen few that added to a movie. I am not movie expert by any means. But when I do see a directors cut vs a theatrical cut, I always seem to prefer the theatrical cut. The one that stands out to me is Apocalypse Now. I saw the making of that film and some of the deleted scenes sounded great. The one about a French aristocratic family as a left over from French Indochina seemed like it would be incredible. But after watching it, I realized why the editors chimed in.

Another was Blade Runner, but I haven't watched it or appreciated it enough to comment. I do own the DVD, but I know Blade Runner fans are pretty hard core. I liked it but I would not feel comfortable commenting on the different cuts of that film.

That is the main reason I recognize that the former United States no longer has a military - it has been drafted to be exclusively in the service of the Democratic Party and their managers in Beijing.

=========

Ridley Scott's director's cuts tend to be better than his theatrical ones universally. Not always (I think the Robin Hood theatrical is better than the director's cut), but most often. The biggest improvement is with Kingdom of Heaven.

The thing with Scott is that he's as much a producer as he is a director, so he's far too willing to cut things in response to test screenings than many other directors are. There are instances of director's taking movies to test screenings, receiving terrible feedback, and the refusing to do anything with box office and critical acclaim to follow. Scott isn't willing to risk that, and that's a problem.

I saw a vid about John Banner. He was a young Austrian who was in an acting troupe performing in Switzerland when the Anschluss occurred. He tried to return to his family in Austria but he was refused entry because he was Jewish. (That's funny; he doesn't look Jewish.) He then immigrated to the US where he joined the military. His family were killed in the Holocaust and he never saw them again.

Also interesting, he returned to Austria where he died and was buried. But you can't buy a plot in Austria. You can only rent for 30 years with an option to renew. 30 years after his death there was no one to renew so the plot was leased to another. It's unclear to me whether he was evicted or whether he acquired a roommate. Anyway, if you go there today you'll see a plaque that says this is where he was buried although there is another name on the headstone.

No, I coded data entry programs for telephone company inventory back in 1979.

They aren't scanning old data, they aren't going 'back' in time for any of this. They're collecting you, on line, the same way we're having this conversation right now.

If you bought something back in 1979 you probably escaped, if you bought something during the 80's maybe also, if you bought something since the full employment of day to day devices like ATMS and POS devices, you're in the system. Because text, and I mean not video, not audio, and not OCR, just plain old check box data capture just isn't that complicated. Even if some clown clerk at the gun store had to enter it.

As just one tool, it can get you to 100 per cent. We use it in combo with database checks, and presto! All you need is a workflow manager, one or two fields to read correctly and then you can check the data against other, stored info. Raw horsepower computing power is pretty cheap nowadays, after all.

Yep. I was feeling trust for the military, but I also thought, at one point (pre Barr) that the DOJ would come through. Wray drove the final nail into my trust in DC coffin when during the BLM/Antifa riots he said "white supremacists" were the greatest threat.

Sorry, a bit late to respond to this.

Yes, your idea is better than mine, except for one thing. Most of those RINOs have been in Congress for years. Alaska tried to get rid of Murkowski at one time She managed to get reelected by write in. How are we going to stop this bullshit if we keep electing the same assholes year after year? If enough of us vote third party AND withhold donations to the GOP, maybe the rest of them will bring the RINOs in line. The Democrat Commies seem to have no trouble voting as a bloc, why won't Republican leadership bring the party together?

438 They could start by stating flatly that they will not confirm any candidate who gives a non-answer to any question. That has become very popular these days, and it needs to stop. If Rand Paul asks a transvestite how he feels about giving puberty delaying drugs to minors then he must give more than an obvious non-answer.
