The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

I probably should have included this as one of my proverbs last time:

There are three things that baffle me, yea four things I do not understand.

Because certain aspects of government and politics impress me as being completely dysfunctional and I just don't see why they need to be this way.

For example, why is it so difficult to pass a Covid relief bill? Not that I want one, all that we're doing is piling an another trillion dollars onto our our already ridiculously bloated national debt that will eventually have to be paid by some Chinese guy, but I don't understand all of the wrangling and fighting that's going on. It should be a no-brainer:

1. Determine how much money FedGov should put into the pot.
2. Find out from the IRS how many American citizens are eligible to receive relief money.
3. You might have to jiggle with (1) and (2) a bit to come up with reasonable numbers, but that's OK.
4. Divide (1) by (2) to get the per-person amount.
5. Send the per-person amount to everyone who is eligible.
6. The end.

There. Now, was that so hard? But I keep hearing about how the relief bill has to have things like $25 million to refurbish the Kennedy Center and $40 million to teach gender studies in Pakistan, and I think, why are these things in a Covid relief bill? What do they have to do with providing relief to Americans whose jobs or businesses have suffered losses due to the pandemic? And why is seemingly every member of congress trying to shoehorn his or her pet spending project into the bill? And I "seemingly" because I'm hearing *not one* voice in Washington complain about this. Oh, I've heard protests over this or that item, but I have yet to hear anyone say, "every dollar in this bill needs to go to American taxpayers and that's the end of it. Now, let's get busy and pass the bill and get the money sent out."

But it never happens that way. In order for things to get done in Washington DC, many palms must be greased (hey, another proverb!). I guess that's just how things are done. About the only thing we can do is complain about it. The only thing we can do is to point out how much money reaches the American taxpayer as a percentage of the total amount that is actually allocated. Kind of like how charities are evaluated, that is, how much of your donation will actually go to help starving children in third-world countries and how much goes to "administrative" costs. After a certain point, if the "administrative" costs climb pass 30%, 50% and higher, it's really not a charity any more, it's a scam.

As I said, I really don't want a Covid relief bill. But it looks like we're going to get one, anyway. If Trump were still president, there'd be a chance that the 'scam' spending might be minimized. But not now. With Sleepy Joe at the helm, all of the spigots have been cranked wide open.

61 The government shut the private economy down for over a year. No school teacher, cop or government employee of any type miss a paycheck during this time. Also, welfare payments of every program, federal, state and local, sent their checks out every week.

The rich seem to have weathered the shutdown well.

So, if the poor, the government and the rich all maintained or improved their position, who got totally fucked? It must have been us.

Of course there needs to be stimulus to bring the private economy (that pays for everything else) back. That is why I put forward a plan that sells off government assets and pays out money in the form of paying off the national debt, along with mortgage, consumer and student debt. This would pump the funds directly into the middle class where it's needed most.

Esther was lovely. It's a shame that when her name is brought up, all anybody thinks of are the movies she did with swimming scenes. And there were plenty of those. But I recall some film she did with a young Ricardo Montalban where swimming was only a small part of the story, and she was quite believable.

The traditional justification is logrolling. You have to buy off certain legislators to get their support.
Due to sytemic weaknesses such as lack of accountability for legislation, people's general disinterest with politics, and a completely dumbed-down electorate manipulable by even the most audaciously biased "news" reporting, certain voters - mainly legislators true constituents, donors - have figured out over 250 years that "they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury."

160 Me have stuff posted online? Nope.

Anyway off to build a Fortress. As I am building finding little goofs because HK first made a G and then reused about 85% of the parts. Tokyo tanks is one example, early Fs like the Belle did not have them. Radio gunner aft bulkhead has the mount for the K-6 gun mount, this has to be removed for an F. Also fill in the G wing tip navigation lights, the F had two lights on each wing tip - top and bottom.

But HK also included but did not mention in the instructions the astrodome fairing and plexiglass. The nose halves even have an indentation to tell you where to cut the plastic to install the astrodome. If you are posing the hatches and F model waist positions open, remember to remove the molded in tabs HK provided so the parts fit flush when closed.

While they have had semi famous guests (at least back then) they were just a bunch of nut cases. I know I've talked with at least 2 at the garage sale, that Louisiana accent is hard to miss.

182 Washing Machine: "America Today" would never admit to being a front-loader. I've spent enough late nights on the ONT to know how this goes.

The early ones, branded Bendix, were made to be bolted to the floor. They would walk all over if you didn't. Once you fasten them down, being out of balance doesn't bother them. Mom had one when I was little. Not much on TV in those days, and laundry is fun to monitor.

Much later, I had a White-Westinghouse that brought its own concrete blocks! It had two pretty massive cast-concrete counterweights inside the frame, mounted on levers and springs. That worked. Eventually, the clutch went out, probably from me overloading it but not with blocks.

184 We're putting the blame (well some of it is deserved) on the wrong people.
The folks actually responsible for our bills are not the Congressmen but the lobbyists.
These days all the bills are written by K street and the Congressmen just sign it and talk about it if necessary.
Most times they have no idea what's in these bills and don't care if they're told by their aides that it'll be good and there's stuff in there for their voters. (why bother? I don't know)
But we're not going to do anything about it whining about it. And that's a fact.

What we need to talk about how to get rid of the system but of course we can't do that.

The only reason I've heard about QAnon is because the media have pointed to it as a bogeyman. There have been a few comments here passing along some QAnon comments, and our general reaction is, "We'll see what happens." I can't imagine something like that would be "tearing apart families" unless those families were already unstable, in which case any number of things would tear them apart as well.

LOL. The Residents are almost an entirely different group now, I think only one original member is still with them. They sort of lost me 35+ years ago. I still taste-test from time to time, but, meh. Half the fun was them deconstructing popular music, and using traditional instruments and sounds. Sort of like Martin Denny on Sterno and LSD. I'd recommend trying anything from Meet the Residents up to the Mole trilogy.

They, like a few other bands were a bit ahead of their time, and really wanted to be in on the multimedia aspect of things before the technology existed. So, they wasted a LOT of time trying to make a movie in 8mm, then video tape, then trashing the whole project. They've done video games and similar things since. I think the big blow to the band was losing Philip Lithman (Snakefinger) the guitarist. After he died, they went electronic almost entirely. Third Reich 'N Roll, Duck Stab, Eskimo and the Commercial Album would be good starting points.

234 The "covid relief" dollars are borrowed at interest from countries like China.

Given to Americans who will then buy things like flat screen televisions from ... China. They call it a "Stimulus Bill", they just don't tell you who is getting stimulated.

It won't be some Chinese guy paying it back.

Congress hasn't passed a budget in years. They just call them "spending packages" or "continuing resolutions". This will continue indefinitely (apparently) and will result in ever and higher distortions in the markets, interest rates, and monetary inflation. I've been a Residents/Snakefinger fan since the mid 70's. Saw them many times up until the early 80's. They used to have garage sales, at a home/business in SF into the mid 80's. While they have had semi famous guests (at least back then) they were just a bunch of nut cases. I know I've talked with at least 2 at the garage sale, that Louisiana accent is hard to miss.

255 More ranting about what is actually tearing families apart: this stupid Covid production that we're all supposed to participate in. First, there's the friction between those who immerse themselves in the media-generated fear and those who think that maybe it's a bit over-blown. This is genuine friction, since one side thinks the other side is killing Grandma, and conversely, one side thinks the other side is surrendering our autonomy to nefarious forces.

Then there's the issue of family gatherings, with some willing to forego fellowship in the name of "safety" with others feeling that it's especially important to be with family during trying times.

The biggest threat to family cohesiveness is the concept of informing on others. Where is one's loyalty? To the family or the State?

269 BurtTC,

mine is worse than that. It's been in Tulsa over two weeks. Just needs to go to a little town nearby. All during the bad weather, it would say it was loaded on the truck for delivery, then I'd get a notice that it wasn't delivered due to the weather. Right now, it says it was delivered on the 18th but is currently in transit to Tulsa as of the 22nd.

I called UPS. One rep told me to file a claim. I started to do that, but then they asked for my payment info to set up an account. Called back and was told I couldn't do a claim. I told them it was 70 there and she said I couldn't go by the weather where I lived. I explained that it was 70 that day in Tulsa, that the severe weather is over. Then she said there is something like 30 trailers to be processed in Tulsa. Monday, I will go to the UPS store, where I shipped it and tell them to set up a claim.

The few things they claim, from what I know, are false claims (odd, in an article exposing Q's "false theories"). -- They don't source anything they claim about "Qanon". ---
"A study from Indiana University shows 44% of Americans believe at least
some false stories started by QAnon, including that pedophiles and
cannibals currently serve in U.S. government positions." ... Well it is fact that pedophiles are in government, and I believe it. Did Q ever say there were cannibals? Not that I know of, but I mostly just followed a few people that did their own research (like on Fauci/Gates/WHO/China), sometimes branching off Q's mostly cryptic messages. -- --.

There's a book, Escaping the Delta by a guitarist, Elijah Wald, who studied juke box playlists from around the delta. One of his hypotheses is that the blues were mainly a record company concept where black musicians were pigeon holed and a lot of them wanted to play other types of music. For example Muddy Waters liked Gene Autrey songs. Furthermore, the electric blues of Alligator records, and similar labels, was even more a white boy need for guitar dexterity.

303 Q and Jackstraw are brothers from other mothers. Q was a complacency op - convince you that send memes and linking to articles on police busting pedos linked to a grand Trump plan to crush the Deep State. They had The Faith this was happening behind the scenes, and would link to factual events, alleging it was part of the overall scheme. Basically, justice will Be Done. Jackstraw said the exact same shit, but from a more "mainstream" belief that the Justice System would punish the guilty. I, an others, asked both to Show. Me. The Money. Were are the plea deals, the arrests, charges, trials, convictions, etc.? Jackstraw said "criminal process takes time, trust the plan". Q believers took it all on faith that it was happening behind the scenes, never asked for an actual identified party to believe, and "rusted the plan".

315 Covid relief bills are a great teachable moment for the fools that haven't figured out yet that the federal government is not their friend. Just note to them how much of the current economic devastation was due to heavy-handed government overreach and how little of the money in these bills goes to actual citizens.

Be sure to also note that since they're basing it on 2019 tax data, the waiter who's been out of work since last March has been getting the same amount of Trumpbux/Bidenbux as the corporate manager who's been phoning it in remotely while cashing in magnificent stock-plan checks.
