Elon Musk to Washington Post: Drop Dead (and Say Hello to Jeffy!)

A few weeks ago, Elon Musk fired his media relations team, figuring, he would no longer communicate with the media. He decided he did not need the media to get his word out, and the media were nasty to him anyway.

So he essentially fired the whole media.

The media has been extremely angry about this, because publishing other people's press releases is 90% of their phoney-baloney jobs. Once everyone realizes they can just release press releases to the public, without having to launder it through a fake "journalist," 75% of the remaining "journalism" jobs go bye-bye.

So they've upped their attacks on him since then.

The Washington Post, acting like a mafia defending its turf by threatening shop-owners of consequences if they don't play ball, pumped out a completely gratuitous hit-piece on him, with no real news hook to even serve as a pretext for it.

They demanded a comment from Musk. He replied:

Is he implying that Jeff Bezos is pushing these attacks, because Musk's private spaceflight venture is much, much more advanced than Bezos' vaporware?

I think he is.

Posted by: Grapefruit LaCroix

Zuckerberg is visibly more detestable, because of his outward appearance and the megalomaniac way he runs Facebook (or his minions do).
Bezos is MUCH more powerful and wealthy than Zuckerberg. We, as normal people, have no idea how ruthless Bezos is.
Speaking only from a modest anecdotal position, my son worked part - time at an Amazon distribution center last year (his strike from normal work), and he thought that they really drove people hard and were pretty demanding in terms of what you were actually paid.

119 The trashing and ridicule of journalism is fun and easy, but the important and grim reality is that without something like an actual press, an open society becomes quite dysfunctional (as ours has). Our system sort of assumed a lively and unfettered broader civic culture including a real press - the kind that would, like the purposefully divided government power structure, result in competing players holding each other in check.

That key function is now just about completely missing.

A big reason the country is dumbed down beyond recognition, and ruled by idiots.

126 The media has been extremely angry about this, because publishing other people's press releases is 90% of their phoney-baloney jobs. Once everyone realizes they can just release press releases to the public, without having to launder it through a fake "journalist," 75% of the remaining "journalism" jobs go bye-bye.

This bears repeating. It is literally true, most of what is published as "news" is simply someone's press release. They are real careful to only use ones from allies, but nearly every "science" post or "study" one is utter trash from some advocacy group published pretty much verbatim.

I'm not exaggerating. This is modern journalism, and its been that way for decades. The first time I noticed it was in the 90s, maybe it goes back earlier than that.

Between press releases from woke allies and twitter links journalism is completely unprofessional, lazy, and idiotic.

I liken it to the parable of the lost sheep. In the parable the shepard leaves the flock of 99 sheep to seek and save the 100th. The Left has twisted this story to where they could have 99% of the populace in complete agreement with them (Dominion notwithstanding), but they still hunt down that pesky 1% to convert or destroy. This also explains how the Left "won" the whole enchilada in 2020 and yet are still miserable assholes. They must have full, utter and complete allegiance. Anything less is failure to them. The funny part is, that even if they do achieve it, it will still not be enough, and they will savage one another for not being pure enough.

It is also the first anniversary of my dad passing. That sucks.

Hubbymayhem and I got to cheer for ourselves a few days ago. We got a tax refund and shoved some of it into our savings account and the rest to our mortgage principle. We now owe less than $30000 on the mortgage! We were hoping to get here by July but we got it there sooner so yay us!
We started the year with a bit of credit card debt and the mortgage was over $36 thousand. Now the cc debt is gone and the mortgage is sinking faster than we had planned. Hopefully we can maintain the momentum and get to $20thousand by the end of the year.

More like 1972 when they orchestrated the attack on Nixon. Yes Nixon had his people spy on the Democrats. SO. WHAT?

It was the media who turned into such a big deal that the pols couldn't ignore because people were all mad at Nixon. (who was hated by folks because of the way the media talked about him. (sound familiar? You had to have lived at that time to understand exactly what was going on because written accounts don't give you the atmosphere created by the media)

And once they figured out they could bring down a President than all bets were off and they proceeded to make that their Raison D'etre.

And with every success actual news reporting fell out of favor with journalists. To the point where they had as many confidential sources as the police do. maybe more.

Tesla is priced based on its future, not its present. Musk has been building electric cars for about 10 years now, and aiming them at the upper end, those who are willing to pay for innovation to get it first. In recent years, he has been making more cars that are more inexpensive than the first ones. The legacy manufacturers all are trying to do that with econo shitboxes. Similar to what happened with HDTVs. In 2003, a 40" plasma TV was $10,000, today a 40" LCD with built in streaming is under $200. Eventually, Tesla's technology will come down in price and he will build more cars for the mass market.

The Pfizer and Moderna "vaccines" are not really vaccines in the technical sense. They are more like medical devices. Moderna actually uses that term to describe its "invention". It is an RNA template surrounded by a lipid layer. It is injected into your body to instruct your cells to make a pathogen, the spiked protein that resembles the outer coat of the so-called Covid 19 virus. This, in turn, is to stimulate your body to create anti-bodies that will supposedly repel a real Covid 19 infection.

My liberal neighbor took this to mean (as I suspect the EMT himself believed) that that meant that Covid cases were overwhelming hospital capacity.

I pointed out to her that an alternative - and IMO more likely - scenario was that hospital policies cause the backups. This possibility hadn't occurred to her. I did mention that she's liberal, didn't I?

279 To be fair, no gas powered car gets the mileage claimed either, because they test it on a roller in a lab with an empty car. There's no air resistance, no hills, no stop-and go, etc.

Why it matters more with electric cars is that the loss of "mileage" is greater in them than gas cars when you add weight and real world conditions. Adding a driver to an EV makes more of a distance to expected range than adding one to a standard internal combustion engine. Adding cargo makes things worse.

Basically the percentage of real world damage to official lab ratings is greater with an EV than a real car.

And that's the real problem. Tech worshipers who grew up watching Star Trek: the soap opera with stars in their eyes over electric vehicles drive this market, but since it is so grossly expensive to buy one and the tech geek isn't as common as portrayed in popular media its not a very big force in economics.

Which brings up the question: why is Tesla such a huge cultural and stock market force?

I don't think people on the right hate electric cars so much as they hate the people who worship and promote them, hate the lies around them, and hate the culture that promotes them.

They're fine as a second car for urban travel to and from work. They are not going to save us from global climate change or transform society. Every time someone on the left pushes something, it makes people on the right annoyed, even if it isn't necessarily a bad thing they are pushing, if for no other reason than the left lies and manipulates in everything they do.

The left pushing eating healthy isn't bad, its that they push it in so obnoxious a manner and always for some hidden, corrupt cause. Its almost never actually the goal they promote, its some means of tricking people into moving toward the goal.

I don't think anyone has to actually buy them, they just have to sell them.

Kind of like how only Enterprise buys the shitty low end american cars then sells them 2 years later for pennies on the secondary market (you'd have to be pretty desperate to want a used Ford Focus that was a rental car for its entire life). I'm sure they're buying them at near cost, since car companies HAVE to make them due to CAFE standards, but no one wants to buy them.

The end result is though, he's probably going to be much more known in the future for his space exploration, but it's just as possible he's remembered as the "father of alternate fuel cars."

384 351 Get back to me when he puts one product out, a single one, that has a real impact on regular every day people's lives. Just one. We got phonograph records, electric lights, movie cameras, electrical power plants, and like fifteen other huge culturally transforming products out of the Edison company. Edison literally changed the world like ten times, even if he didn't own or personally create most of that stuff.

Tesla isn't even remotely close to being somewhat near that category.

Musk is more than Tesla. With SpaceX, StarLink, the Boring Machine and his residential battery offerings, the impact is just beginning to show up.

I think getting us on Mars also ranks up there assuming it occurs in the next few years. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.

387 In my opinion, general intelligence AI IS scary. It's basically an alien life form that doesn't necessarily value anything. It's also likely to be MUCH smarter than people and any artificial limitations you put on it are likely to be worked around (see the stop button problem).

Posted by: bonhomme at February 25, 2021 01:03 PM (YYlyE)

Well as you said that doesn't exist (yet). And people conflate the two.

I still put how humans use machine learning or even theoretical general intelligence AI as way more scary than anything any alien machine could come up with by itself.

My initial point still stands that humans bear most of the evil in this world, and I fear *that* more than anything you can name. The "AI will take over the world" stuff is folly when the world is being taken over by humans as alien as anything we can fathom... as you and I speak. Eye on the prize.
