Elon Musk to Washington Post: Drop Dead (and Say Hello to Jeffy!)
A few weeks ago, Elon Musk fired his media relations team, figuring, he would no longer communicate with the media. He decided he did not need the media to get his word out, and the media were nasty to him anyway.
So he essentially fired the whole media. The media has been extremely angry about this, because publishing other people's press releases is 90% of their phoney-baloney jobs. Once everyone realizes they can just release press releases to the public, without having to launder it through a fake "journalist," 75% of the remaining "journalism" jobs go bye-bye. So they've upped their attacks on him since then. The Washington Post, acting like a mafia defending its turf by threatening shop-owners of consequences if they don't play ball, pumped out a completely gratuitous hit-piece on him, with no real news hook to even serve as a pretext for it. I think Tesla will in some ways "tank" in the stock market sometime soon. At least lose some of its investment luster. It's a fad stock.

Speaking only from a modest anecdotal position, my son worked part - time at an Amazon distribution center last year (his strike from normal work), and he thought that they really drove people hard and were pretty demanding in terms of what you were actually paid.

I have thought that for years and have been wrong for years so idk. Thing is it is hard to know what to believe. Tesla has been one of the most shorted stocks ever and probably still is. So how much news about Tesla is real and how much is fake? Hard to say. This bears repeating. It is literally true, most of what is published as "news" is simply someone's press release. They are real careful to only use ones from allies, but nearly every "science" post or "study" one is utter trash from some advocacy group published pretty much verbatim.
I'm not exaggerating. This is modern journalism, and its been that way for decades. The first time I noticed it was in the 90s, maybe it goes back earlier than that.
Between press releases from woke allies and twitter links journalism is completely unprofessional, lazy, and idiotic.

The Left has twisted this story to where they could have 99% of the populace in complete agreement with them (Dominion notwithstanding), but they still hunt down that pesky 1% to convert or destroy. This also explains how the Left "won" the whole enchilada in 2020 and yet are still miserable assholes. They must have full, utter and complete allegiance. Anything less is failure to them. The funny part is, that even if they do achieve it, it will still not be enough, and they will savage one another for not being pure enough.

Today is February 25... The sun is shining, its warmer than usual and it is a beautiful day!
It is also the first anniversary of my dad passing. That sucks.
Hubbymayhem and I got to cheer for ourselves a few days ago. We got a tax refund and shoved some of it into our savings account and the rest to our mortgage principle. We now owe less than $30000 on the mortgage! We were hoping to get here by July but we got it there sooner so yay us!
We started the year with a bit of credit card debt and the mortgage was over $36 thousand. Now the cc debt is gone and the mortgage is sinking faster than we had planned. Hopefully we can maintain the momentum and get to $20thousand by the end of the year.

I have thought that for years and have been wrong for years so idk. Thing is it is hard to know what to believe. Tesla has been one of the most shorted stocks ever and probably still is. So how much news about Tesla is real and how much is fake? Hard to say. I will say that anecdotally the people I know who own Teslas are more brand loyal then Apple people beer drinkers and cigarette smokers combined.

It's basically a matter of Tesla making far less money than General Motors (which is the 7th most valuable automaker) but being priced more than the combined value of the others in the top 10 combined. The company got over its operational difficulties and has a large share of luxury, but the price is crazy.

If it is priced based on the future, the current price suggests it will basically take over the world automarket while continuing to enjoy higher margins. Is that a reasonable scenario? Even if it is, if it's already priced in there's not much space to run. Then there's the competitors, who exist.

JJ had a link to a story thia morning that says tht asymptomatic people cannot transmit the disease. Even to people in the same household. This totally negates the need for masks unless you are visibly sick. Then, stay home. It was done on 10's of thousands of school children. All along, positive test results do not mean cases. Sometimes the viral load is barely detectable yet it is being called a "case".North dakota just made masks illegal. I hope more states follow suit.

Tesla bought Maxwell, which was the world's foremost developer of supercapacitors. Which are widely used to moderate the power cycle variations in wind power. Now, Maxwell is moving out of that business, and more into batteries.
There are couple BIG venture businesses about to go into battery production domestically, that I know of. But, that is all out of the public view at the moment.

None of the four instructors had masks on. Maybe 5 of the students in a class of about 20 had them on.

A young EMT told a liberal neighbor and me that ambulances have to line up to drop patients off at backed-up hospitals.
My liberal neighbor took this to mean (as I suspect the EMT himself believed) that that meant that Covid cases were overwhelming hospital capacity.
I pointed out to her that an alternative - and IMO more likely - scenario was that hospital policies cause the backups. This possibility hadn't occurred to her. I did mention that she's liberal, didn't I?

Exactly. A car with an EPA 25 MPG will get 25MPG driven in 65 degree temp, with no heat or AC running, driving at 55 MPH on a perfectly flat road, no passengers, no luggage and running on brand new perfectly inflated tires with no sudden acceleration.

Let people make up their own minds. If masks work then those wearing them will have no problem.
But for some reason not everyone wearing a mask has been protected from getting the virus.
They still have not or can not explain how the virus spreads.
I believe it's like a cold more than the flu and will mutate from person to person thus meaning that no vaccine will work in the long run.

Maybe he eventually starting coming close but he got a reputation for overselling Tesla's production targets for a reason. Space X has typically been considered the more reliable and less speculative part of the business since it's a government contractor.

They added an additional battery pack and called it the extended range because the new Y did not get the range they had hoped for without the additional pack but due to regulations they cannot sell the car under the same name since adding a battery pack changes the weight distribution and it had to get re crash tested and what not. Why it matters more with electric cars is that the loss of "mileage" is greater in them than gas cars when you add weight and real world conditions. Adding a driver to an EV makes more of a distance to expected range than adding one to a standard internal combustion engine. Adding cargo makes things worse.
Basically the percentage of real world damage to official lab ratings is greater with an EV than a real car.
And that's the real problem. Tech worshipers who grew up watching Star Trek: the soap opera with stars in their eyes over electric vehicles drive this market, but since it is so grossly expensive to buy one and the tech geek isn't as common as portrayed in popular media its not a very big force in economics.
Which brings up the question: why is Tesla such a huge cultural and stock market force?

GM went bankrupt. That was basically bridge financing into a bankruptcy to favor D constituencies.
The federal government generally isn't too overboard with subsidies. Mostly graft happens through government spending instead of a direct subsidy.

I don't think people on the right hate electric cars so much as they hate the people who worship and promote them, hate the lies around them, and hate the culture that promotes them.
They're fine as a second car for urban travel to and from work. They are not going to save us from global climate change or transform society. Every time someone on the left pushes something, it makes people on the right annoyed, even if it isn't necessarily a bad thing they are pushing, if for no other reason than the left lies and manipulates in everything they do.
The left pushing eating healthy isn't bad, its that they push it in so obnoxious a manner and always for some hidden, corrupt cause. Its almost never actually the goal they promote, its some means of tricking people into moving toward the goal.

Not most of their money by any stretch, but yes they do clean up nicely with the CAFE standards. Basically Ford "buys" credits from TSLA to offset their pick up trucks / SUV's. But as Ford brings more EV's online, that source of straight profit will dry up.

In my opinion, general intelligence AI IS scary. It's basically an alien life form that doesn't necessarily value anything. It's also likely to be MUCH smarter than people and any artificial limitations you put on it are likely to be worked around (see the stop button problem).

The AI we have now is a pretty wide field, but in a very broad sense, it's mostly trial and error and compare performance against some sort of fitness test (how well it did against a metric like did it fall over or did it score well at a game or whatever).

They were refurbished. Lots of the pieces of them were new and attached to the pieces that were refurbished.

It's to keep people from getting pissed off. If I have to wait 6 months to get vaccinated and be able to go to a high school football game but my neighbor gets his vaccine today and can go around without a mask and do what he wants, I'm gonna be really pissed off by it.
Plus, the rate of vaccinations hasn't been trending up, its now trending down. On 1/20, there were 1.5M vaccinations, yesterday, 1.4M vaccines were given.

I wouldn't worry about "intelligent" AI, known as "strong AI" in the computer science world (which has been wrong about its immanent development for many decades). It won't happen based on computers, which run algorithms and that's all they do, and intelligence is not an algorithm. Read "What Computers Can't Do" by H. Dreyfuss, pub. 1972 and just as correct today.
