His family was rich from sugar, so he spent his time in Paris. I like his naked women walking dogs better ...
There are many accounts of dying people seeing their (deceased) loved ones in the room, and speaking to them, or about them to others in the room. Some accounts claim they even "see dead people" that they didn't even know had died. ... I forget the term, "guides" maybe, sent to help "walk" people into the afterlife. --- that seems to be what might be going on here, idk. The white woman could be an angel ... other (dead) family in background? ... just guessing, I found nothing on this painting in my one minute search. It's hard to tell but the image above the bed looks like a mother and child, but not Mary and Jesus. The artist seems to be referencing the Madonna and Child tho. The girl in white is not the mom, too young. The woman in black is also not the mom, the body language is wrong. A nurse/governess maybe? So I think that's the boy's mother in the vision welcoming her dying son to heaven. The dead mother becomes an image of Mary, the perfect mother. The boy is the vision is and image of Jesus, the innocent and beloved son. "The visit" is a "visitation" of not Mary, but a stand-in for what Mary represents.

I think the girl in white is the sister. I first thought she was a nun, but she looks like a bride. She's saying goodbye to a dying brother, too sick to go to her wedding. The brightness of the white dress could emphasize the purity of this relationship and the embrace. True family love. Perhaps the brother, as the man of the household, is giving his sister a final blessing before he dies. Jeez, this painting gets more sad the more I think about it.

I think the younger child is a boy, but it's hard to tell. The bride appears genuinely sorrowful, and the juxtaposition of the emotion of this scene, with that of her wedding... contrast that with brides who go stark raving mad if there's even one tiny thing about their wedding plan that isn't "perfect." Posted by: BurtTC at February 22, 2021 10:00 AM (oQ94s) Of course, the girl on the right is fairly short... so maybe not a wedding, but perhaps a First Communion or Confirmation?

It looks like a picture of a dying child, with the figure on the right being a sister either about to make her First Communion or about to get married. The woman in the back could be their mother. Or perhaps the mother has already died as well, as the lady is dressed in black for mourning. Life was hard in those days.

So the SC had zero intentions of ever involving the court in any election issues. NONE. It doesn't matter what happens in elections, they are out of it. That includes the constitutional icons of Coney Barrett and Kavanaugh. Kagan and Sotomayor are so ideologically compromised that none of this is a surprise. Roberts is mentally limited and Breyer is probably entering age related decline.
Additionally, the threat of packing the court has worked beautifully . The majority don't want their power diminished so they will sidestep any issue that might really bring the Democrats on board with adding a dozen more justices. There is zero reason now for any state AG or election clerk to follow their state's laws regarding elections. There is no recourse should any challenge lose in state courts. By the way, didn't Roberts say he would fix PA's problems later if there were any? So once again, he lied. Posted by: Jen the original at February 22, 2021 10:18 AM (eflyC) 192

in trying to find more on this painting, down the page a little at my link is a picture of a girl dressed for confirmation. It is indeed a wedding gown type thing, but a "little" girl. And in that painting, the little girl has hair like the girl (or boy) in The Visit painting. -- the puffy sleeve and bola like black thing around the neck still make me think it is a girl, but the hair is short, idk. --

Cloud woman looks too fair haired for typical representations of Mary. Also, cloud child looks female. Wouldn't have been unusual in those days for multiple members of a family to die within a short period, what with infectious contagions and such. I'm inclined to think mother and sister preceded the child in the bed in death, and are 'welcoming' him/her to heaven.

However, the artist was either Catholic or High Anglican or Old-Fashioned Lutheran, because: 1) Twelve-year-old girl in a wedding dress = First Communion (unless they're peasants, which these people aren't) and 2) the "ghosts" of the baby and the girl are obviously God & His Mom. ___________________ There is an exception to the mootness doctrine when the issue is "capable of repetition yet evading review." And the SCOTUS is more than happy to use that exception when they want to create more rights for leftists. For example, in the abortion case of Roe v. Wade, the plaintiff Jane Roe had already given birth to the baby by the time her case reached the SCOTUS. So the case should have been moot, right? No need to inquire about the appropriateness of an abortion for Jane for a baby she has already given birth to. 1/2 Posted by: TrivialPursuer at February 22, 2021 10:44 AM (k4dH2) 313

In this case, the election was over, but we know that the Dims won't stop cheating, and they will certainly pull out their handy bag of cheating tricks for the next election. And since Republicans can't challenge them before the election, and it will be too later after the election, these election issues, just like the abortion issues, are "capable of repetition yet evading review." 2/2 Posted by: TrivialPursuer at February 22, 2021 10:44 AM (k4dH2) 315

Posted by: CN at February 22, 2021 11:10 AM (ONvIw) I read this take a lot on here and other sites. How does this explain Kagan, Sotomayor, and Breyer? It doesn't. We need to accept that almost all law schools are idoctrination centers, accepting only those students whose records provide an insight into their desire to reduce America to a socialist, totalitarian state, and who are then fortified of that via their law school education. Look at the hundreds of law school professors who weekly are spearheading some kind of cancel culture on campus, support totalitarian ideals and efforts and are rewarded with praise and acclimation in the media. Every younger lawyer and jurist is suspect. Putting 40-50 year old lawyers on the court is simply increasing the risk of destroying the Constitution by multitudes. This guy John Isaac in Texas explains the power thing pretty well. Big point, ERCOT was late to start rolling blackouts, and some plants were "tripped off" due to that error. (and it is not like flipping a breaker to go back on, takes days). iirc they also rolled the blackout to spots that were producing power, so they actually reduced generation even more. --
Also China and other foreign countries are coming in to make money off the huge "clean" mandates from DC ... he says at times the "clean" (but unreliable) producers can actually give away power, because they are still profitable due to huge subsidies. (he says they should at least be required to have their own back up, so they are dependable producers, not just selling when all is well) --To me, it is just yet another attack on USA, last chance for Liberty. (France may still allow more free speech, idk, but they are also even more globalist, for now, La Pen back on trial for speaking ill of Islamic Terrorism) https://tinyurl.com/2c9h7tso Posted by: illiniwek at February 22, 2021 11:20 AM (Cus5s) 446
You know why we never get real conservatives. Because when there's an opening, the Right wing does NOT go to the Republican President and say "Appoint one of these four. We know they are Conservative based on their track record". Instead, everyone sits back and waits for the R President to make his pick and then cheerleads for the Choice. Then when they get on the court, they're always a disappointment. Well Duh!
