The Morning Report - 2/18/21 [J.J. Sefton]

RIPRUSH.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday, and it's almost impossible for me to process the fact that Rush Limbaugh is gone. I suppose after the theft of the election and the effective overthrowing of the nation formerly known as the United States of America, his passing is, as the saying goes, the other shoe dropping. On New Year's Day 2020, President Trump (now President-in-Exile Trump) and our nation were riding higher than perhaps any time since VJ Day 1945, despite the entire combined might of the malignant political, bureaucratic, corporatist, media and cultural entity that has since subsumed that nation focused to take him out. Then, from out of the blue (no pun, but fitting I suppose), Rush came on the air in late January or early February and dropped the news of his stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis on us. When he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, arguably deserved more than any other person who has received that medal over the years since off the top of my head I can't recall any of them, the word "harbinger" began creeping up from the back of my mind and planted itself front and center. . .

I must have started listening during the latter stages of Dubya's presidency, when Rush was merely almost always right 99.4% of the time. And that also coincides with my discovery of this here website, but I digress. It more or less coincided with my political consciousness-raising, which stirred during the Clarence Thomas hearings and became fully awakened ten years later on 9/11. In a quote attributed to Winston Churchill "If you're not liberal when you're young, you have no heart. If you're not conservative when you're older, you have no brain."

As has always been the case, the Left demeaned Rush as a shock jock; a loud, odious Svengali who brainwashes the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, Bible-thumping rubes in flyover country what to think and what to say. And these fools have been spouting this same, tiresome, tedious trope for his entire career. What they have gotten so massively and spectacularly wrong is that Rush never told people what to say and think. He was only articulating what millions and millions of us were already saying and thinking but who never had a voice nor a national platform on which to say it. But it was more than just his superb presentation and absolute command of events, facts and the truth. It was his incredibly sharp wit and humor that minute after minute effectively pantsed Leftists and their sacred cows that kept Rush Limbaugh relevant, vital and successful for 33 years -- one third of a century -- on the air. Were it not for cancer, or perhaps an FCC that going forward will no doubt be unconstrained from that thing called the First Amendment, Rush Limbaugh would have been broadcasting perhaps for another 10 years, maybe even 15 or 20.

Through the dark days of the Obama reign of error and on into perhaps the even darker days when the abject corruption of our political systems was exposed for everyone who has eyes to see, Rush always tried reassuring worried listeners concerned about the trajectory of the nation "I'll let you know when it's time to panic." About two weeks ago, the last time he was behind that golden EIB microphone, I think knowing his time was almost up, he lamented the fact that despite everything, he couldn't convince enough people about the dangers, madness and insanity of Democrats and socialism. Despite the election being stolen, the fact remained that millions of people still legitimately cast their ballots for them. This was his reaction to Zhou Bai-Din's bleak, depressing assessment of the future:

[I]f I were president-elect of the country, it's the last thing I would say. Even if I believed it, I doubt that I would put it this way. But I don't believe this anyway. Our darkest days are ahead of us? What a bleak way of looking at things. ...We Americans have adapted to our problems. ...Our freedom has allowed our adaptability. If disaster is coming our way, we don't just sit there and endure it. We come up with ways to avoid it, to beat it back, to overcome it, but we don't just sit there and accept it. And, as such, we don't just resign ourselves to the fact that they're living in the darkest days because we, at least to this point, still have the greatest degree of freedom of any people on earth. Now, it's under assault and under attack and we all know this. But I don't believe our darkest days are ahead of us. I never have. People have been asking, "You've always told us you'd tell us when it's time to panic. Is it time?" It's never time to panic, folks. It's never, ever gonna be time to give up on our country. It will never be time to give up on the United States. It will never be time to give up on yourself. Trust me.

There's been an ocean of ink and pixels spilled on the subject of leadership. While Rush lamented what he perceived to be a failure, nothing could have been further from the truth. He (and Donald Trump) effectively awakened millions of people to the rot, corruption and danger that for so long we were unaware of or, worse, refused to see. No one person, not even Rush Limbaugh can fight this fight alone, though that in no way takes away from his achievements which I believe in the fullness of time will be a key to changing the course of history for the better.

Rush Limbaugh was the voice of freedom, the voice of America. I don't know where I would be today without him and for sure I don't know where I'll be tomorrow without him either.

May the Lord bless and keep Rush Limbaugh.

21 When great men like Andrew Breitbart and Rush Limbaugh are taken from us too soon, I have to wonder what demonic pacts the octogenarian leadership in government have made to remain in good health for so long. The only way to explain it is with a deal with the Devil. Or it simply takes that long for the Devil to arrange for their permanent accommodations...

37 Alex Marlow's Breitbart News Daily has dedicated his show today to Rush and all the caller and guests have been telling stories and paying tribute to him. One guy was nearly in tears moments ago when he finished speaking. Seb Gorka and David Webb are coming on in the 8am hour.

He had a caller earlier talking about all the nastiness coming from the left over Rush's death. He said they have the Presidency, the Senate, and the House and they still aren't happy. Just full of hate.

Also loved the note that Reagan sent to Rush after Bush lost to Clinton from the Byron York's NR repost article in the sidebar.

I started listening to Rush in the early 2000's. I had already made my transition from Left by default to not Left (thanks, CSPAN and Bill Clinton!). What was a revelation for me after I gave Rush a try was this:

-- Rush did his research and knew the details. He provided a lot of background and info that the MSM never got to

--Rush understood how the Left thinks and reacts

It was the combination of knowing the facts/details + knowing the Left that made his insoght and analysis unique and incredibly valuable.

No one succeeds in a 3 hr/day, 5 days/week for decades on hate and bombast. Not possible.

I was only five years old when that confirmation happened (I'm a young'un, I know) and as a little kid I didn't know what was going on. I do, however, remember my dad watching the confirmation on TV and he was filled with a towering moral outrage at what the Dems - including Joe Biden and the scrunt from California - did to Thomas. His reaction stuck with me. When I rewatched those hearings later, I understood it fully. The Thomas confirmation was, I suspect, a turning point for many.

Putting aside policies, personalities and whatever else, that single distinction showed how big a difference there was between the two. The choice was obvious.

I feel compelled to repeat this thing I've said so many times. We must stop expecting some champion, some hero to sweep in and put things right. That is not the American way; it feels at times as if even we have forgotten exactly what that means now!

Identify your strengths. Catalog your resources. Make your plans and prepare for the onslaught.

Is this the end of America? In one form, perhaps. But a part of me--deep in this depressive skull of mine--believes there is great potential for a glorious renewal. Do not let their work be in vain.

This is INSANITY.
_______________

We do fund weapons development in Iran. What do you think all those billions in currency and gold that Obama shipped to them was used for?

And Mexico's second biggest source of revenue is the income it receives from Mexicans living and working in the U.S., most of them illegally. And much of that money undoubtedly finds its way into the bank accounts of the drug cartels. So yes, we're also funding meth production in Mexico (just not as directly as we're funding weapons development in Iran).

As with other religious groups, the problem lies with the "-INOs". This is something I noticed going back to the 70s, or even the 60s. I recall the shock in NY that Hasids started voting our way. In college (70s) it was common for a bunch of us, Jews, Catholics, various Protestants, to get talking over beer, and deriding the wimps in our respective groups. This covered both liberal religion, and liberal politics.

Life expectancy *when?* I can't imagine it has shifted "life expectancy at birth" (they key development indicator). It may well have shifted "life expectancy at 50" or "life expectancy at 60" or one of the other standards, but the key development indicator of "life expectancy at birth" probably didn't move.*

* Not because of the 'Rona, though the response might actually shave some decimals off the key indicator. The youth suicide increase, which has been a terrible a brutal trend for a decade, is getting shockingly worse under the 'Rona response regime.

1: For those interested, I GREATLY RECOMMEND listening to Rush's audiobook of The Way Things Ought To Be, especially the first half. He talks about the show and his thoughts on what has made it a success. It also very neatly debunks pretty much everything his rabid detractors say about him. MUST LISTEN.

2: There's a dusting of snow in NoVA today, and predictably everything is closed, including virtual schools. Yep, FCPS closed all online schools because of...weather. Again, I'm even more firmly of the opinion that teachers aren't really all that necessary now. Show videos to the students and have the tests graded by grad students.

Is that because of loss of pressure and power to the treatment stations? I have never been through a major urban power or water outage, but my understanding is that if pressure drops then *all* of the water currently in the system has to work its way through before it is likely safe to drink because critters just love low-pressure standing water, pipes be damned. Is that correct?

203 From the sidebar-

Man, we've been having the same argument with the progressive Nazis for 30 years- - only now (thanks to NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc.) they won and can do all the things they've lusted to do for 30 years.

That's because we've never had leaders in the Republican party with sincere beliefs. Look at McConnell, Chinese shill. I'm ashamed to have him as the leader of the Republican party.
With Trump's victory in 2016, the Reps finally had everything they needed to deliver on their promises. And instead spent their time thwarting Trump and his voters. Even to the extent of purposefully losing the House.

Rush, as always saw things ahead of the crowd, I remember, I believe it was sometime fairly early into the Obama administration, where he said (something almost exactly like this):
I get a lot of requests to support this or that Republican politician, and usually I would, but -
I'm not going to support any more politicians just because they're Republicans. I have to believe that their going to move the Conservative agenda forward.

I think that's our mission going forward. No Republican poolitician's seat should be safe without proof..

As saddened as I am by Rush's passing, I also have a growing feeling of, what?, timeliness?, cosmic synchronism? ... ? maybe just a sense of hearing the grinding of the gears that keep everything spinning along ...
a feeling that in so many ways we are entering into a new time, we have learned a lot of new lessons, and Rush, having walked with us down this path, has left a space, now, for a new voice to rise to meet these times.
I have no idea what that will mean, or what that voice will say, but I know that every death also means a birth somewhere.

and if you feel both hope and a little fear as you read this, I'm right there with you.

Hence the boiling.

216 I was picking up a sandwich at Which Wich last year when my mother texted me. "Rush has lung cancer!" Later that week in Hereford, TX I heard the actual broadcast on a weekly recap show. Now, I knew that the odds were against him but I looked at his case with guarded optimism. After all, Rush was a happy warrior and would want no less.

Nonetheless, hearing his wife on the radio yesterday was hard, as crazy as that sounds in regards to a man I never met but only heard on the radio. When I was first listening to his show, I was a young lad still in high school! Now...not the best of circumstances, but I'm here. And for those past 28 years, through good times and bad, hearing Rush from 11-1400 CST was a common denominator. And now? Stopped cold.

None. Sure, there will be massive costs and lots of new equipment that has to be purchased installed. Sure, there is massive waste like you described with leaving taps running and from things like people using automobiles as inefficient power and heat generators. This is all true.

But none of it is due to renewables (or, as someone here calls them, "unreliables"). It is due to the misaligned expectations of a pampered, entitled society living beyond its means with its head stuck in the past world of cheap energy that no longer exists.

229 Speaking of winning but still being angry:

Four progressive Peacock [NBS streaming service] talk hosts expressed strong reservations about "platforming" Republican guests on their streaming shows in the currently divisive political and media atmosphere. Mehdi Hasan, Zerlina Maxwell, Michael Smith and Michael Holley, on a virtual TCA panel . . . tackled the topic that has become increasingly relevant . . .

Hasan, host of Peacock's The Mehdi Hasan Show and also an MSNBC contributor, poured cold water on the idea of inviting Republicans on his show. While he insisted he relishes debate, citing a recent on-air "row" with conservative former U.S. national security advisor John Bolton. .

Maxwell, who hosts Zerlina, picked up on the point. "I'm never letting us live it down that we let Donald Trump be the president for four entire years, all the way up to and including insurrection," she said, "and there are still people who went along with that and are taken seriously in polite company. I think that needs to be a little more examined. . . It's not that we don't want to debate. It's that I want the person that I debate to be living in reality."

You don't want debate.

Rush could have signed off a year ago and no one would have held it against him for doing so. But I see his getting before the golden EIB microphone as a form of therapy. I get your point though; I'm just not sure if recent events were enough to break his spirit.

and imo, Rush's "mission" accomplished more than those ministers trapped inside institutional/denominational restraints. The leftist march through our institutions (begun largely by Soviets, continued by others) ... included the subversive war to seize control of our churches, made easier as they too became centralized. --- "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day"

_____________

He hates immigrants. Except the ones he marries.

Trump never said anything negative about immigrants. He did say he wanted to reduce illegal immigration, which is a very different thing. And it's something the majority of Americans want as well.

As for saying bad things about Mexicans, what he said was that they send a lot of criminals here, which is an undeniable fact. Anyone who doubts the truth of that statement just needs to take a tour of our prisons here in Arizona, and you'll soon realize how right Trump is. Arizona prisons are full of illegal aliens from Mexico who have been convicted here of rape, murder, aggravated assault, home invasions, and many other crimes of violence. The New Mexican Mafia (and that is not a reference to the state of New Mexico, it is the Mexican Mafia, in a "new" form) is a Mexican gang that controls several of the prisons in Arizona (as well as in California, New Mexico, and other states).

But yeah, Trump is the problem.

There are materials that when exposed to an environment of wear, or oxidation, or stress will physically change such that they resist any substantial change as a result of that exposure. This is, of course, due to us picking among all the types of materials and treatments those that better hold up to their environment.

Leftist propaganda is designed to do that to people. It materially transforms their ability to associate with other humans in a positive manner and apply reason to questions dealing with society. Their propaganda forms an unthinking ablative shield, made up of their followers, against any opposition to "progress". Not by happenstance but by design.

Watching a late-60s game where the Bills QB, James Harris got injured, so the aging and infirm Jack Kemp had to come in. Then Kemp gets a concussion. In comes the only guy left on the roster who can throw the ball, WR Marlon Briscoe, who had been a college QB and came into the NFL as one before converting to WR.

Then, unbelievebaly at this point, Briscoe gets injured. Kemp comes back in and the announcer says (paraphrasing but close): "And Jacky Kemp will have to shake off those cobwebs and come back into the game!"

Times have certainly changed.

I wonder if the gambit will work. What they're clearly going to try is, "It's muddy and no one knows, but it's possible that there was meaningful fraud. Either way, we just have to live with the outcome. But don't worry - we listened to your concerns and looked into it and cleaned things up so it will definitely be unambiguous next time and all the problems are solved and the election systems are definitely sound."

Ehhhh, I love Ace but his one appearance on FOXNews convinced me that he's doing exactly what he should do.

Maybe some kind of Cyrano de Bergerac thing would work.

Ace goes out and hires some washed up cloth-head like Johnny Depp and sticks an earphone on him then tells him what he should say.

I've taken two Hillsdale online courses and Arnn was, by far, the worst lecturer: irritating voice and namby pamby delivery. Typical college president in not being particularly accomplished at anything except schmoozing people. Case in point, an online friend was at a conference Arnn attended where he spent the entire time yacking with Hewitt. I'd rather dig ditches.

TX has ALWAYS a +3-5% Republican state. The Cruz/O'Rourke election fell firmly within this margin of effort.
