RIP: Rush Limbaugh Has Passed
Update: Rush's Wife Announces His Death

They're announcing it on the Rush radio show just now.

A week ago, Rush's producer "Mr. Snerdley" asked for prayers for Rush:

Our prayers are with Rush as he continues to fight the illness he as been afflicted with. We are still praying for a remission. Today @KenMatthews will fill in for Rush. Thanks for all of your prayers, kind words and wishes for our Rush. God Bless you.

Not only is it a great rorsharch test -- who expresses open glee vs. who has the maturity and humanity to take the day off from it -- but it's a testament to how dang effective Rush was.

168 Rush was a true master of his craft who yet held onto an unbreakable integrity and excellent instincts right up to the end. There will never be another of his ilk, ever again.

Rush fought on until the end, when so many others would have tapped out, he kept doing whatever he could to stay on the air and to fight for what he believed in. Of that, I have the utmost respect and admiration. Even as I believe that the congenial American Conservatism which he championed may never see the light of day again, I still believe it was the last best hope of humanity to forge a pluralistic society in which people can live freely. And he should be remembered for always holding onto the pursuit of truth and trying his very best to convince as many people as possible to join him in such endeavors.

I don't know the topic, but many who do say he almost single-handedly "saved" AM radio as a business, gave it new life and direction when it was becoming side-lined.

My Dad just died from advanced lung cancer about 3 weeks ago, but it was only 2 months from diagnosis (found metastatic tumors in his brain after a sharp downturn in his memory) to the end. He never even smoked.

263 I'll willow it, what the hell.

I first heard of Rush on 60 Minutes when they did a segment on him. I remember well at some point the interviewer (Steve Kroft?) asked him why he was doing what he was doing. My mother, sitting in the living room, says "He's gonna say it's not for the money." In a roundabout way, Mr. Limbaugh said "It's for the money." We ALL did a double take. What???
So I started listening to his show on 550 AM KTSA when they carried his show in San Antonio during study hall when I pulled out my Walkman and channel surfed. I was impressed enough to keep going and I eventually started watching the TV show.
From that point forward I listened to his show, off and on, but more on than off. (When I was in Korea, I was getting one hour a day on AFN - if that - so I bought a subscription to Rush 24/7.)
I kept going back to his show because even when I vehemently disagreed with him, I'd say "You know, Rush has a point".
I got lots of good stuff from his show, and let's face it, the man single-handedly saved AM radio. I think as much as anything else, that will be a legacy of his.
To say he will be missed is an understatement.

It must be said (forgive my saltiness here): FUCK THEM. Why? They never could beat him, and this is why the Left will celebrate his death. He did have to have one half his brain tied behind his back just to make it fair.

The Left, as you recall, greeted the death of Lady Thatcher with glee, and I forget who said it across the pond, but some guy said something along the lines of 'They lost, she won, so this is all they have'.

But no matter the politics, if they want to celebrate a man's death - from cancer, no less, a disease that effects so many of us - I have no room for them.

326 281 I never listened to Rush. Can't stand talk radio. But if he showed up on TV I would watch. A few years before Leno quit he had Rush on. It was cool.. They did a driving obstacle course. Rush was supposed to avoid liberal hazards, he mowed them down instead. It was awesome! The interviews he did with Hannity are the only times I never heard Hannity interrupt his guest.

When Tim Russert interviewed Rush it was must see TV. Mr. Russert was a Leftist but credit to him; he always gave Rush a fair shake, and pretty much gave him an open invite to drop by Meet the Depressed.

338 One little observation he made during the Trump years might have been the most profound I ever personally heard him make, as simple and kind of obvious as it was: Trump has only, one thing - his voters. Anyway, a simple observation that was spectacularly confirmed almost every day, more by the GOP and by "institutions" than by anything the opposition did, or said.

However, if you expand intolerance to everything you dislike and you become intolerant of that, this is *not* anything like the *discipline* of tolerance.

428 "Zero tolerance" practices have birthed this modern intolerance.

The funny thing about the theory behind "zero tolerance" is the idea that you might not be able to explain to everybody the difference between X and Y, so to be "fair" you have to treat X like Y.

However, they end up treating easily discernible things alike and they act as if nobody who understands the difference should count. However, the original theory was about honoring misconceptions from observers. Now they just nullify the input of any observer they don't care about.

So true. Rush was a good and decent soul. You could hear it in his voice. And he had a magic with people. The way he could explain whatever was unfolding. He taught a generation why America was great. His kindness shone through, as well as his love for the country and his audience. He was whip smart, funny, kind and a very decent man. One of a kind. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people. Filling those shoes will be extremely hard.

Being more moderate at the time, I didn't love or hate him. Took several years to finally realize how very good he was....Have been listening to him seemingly forever.
It's a shame how many people never gave him a chance, like Trump, he was a lot more humble than what the MSM presented.

A movement needs leaders, perhaps, but ultimately to bring about the changes needed in this country, that falls to us. We should work to bring about a country Mr. Limbaugh (and Mr. Buckley, Mr. Reagan, Mr. Scalia, et al) would be proud of and instantly recognize.

My first great moment of him was back in the 1980s, I don't remember what part, and he was still a novelty and not yet something more akin to a good friend. The audacity of his humor was fabulous. On this particular day he was railing on about the evils of abortion and out of nowhere, to punctuate his point, came the vacuum cleaner soundtrack as he railed on.

I never stopped being a part of his life after that.

567 It's interesting that among his biggest impacts was in letting so many millions know they were not alone in their thinking about so many things. And that they were not just not alone in their take, but that they were right - by providing facts and history etc. that of course the mainstream media and culture completely ignored or suppressed.

I recall once years back up in Cayucos, a beautiful little beach town in central CA, near CaliGirl's hood, we were walking (probably down to Morro Rock) and what I assume was a local, older woman walked past. She had a small radio, and was listening to ..... Rush.

I just smiled to myself. A few things like that happened over the years. Even before 2008, in much of the country, any little sign that there was actually thinking going on in some stranger's head provided a weird, small bit of encouragement.

Posted by: rhomboid at February 17, 2021 01:06 PM (OTzUX)

568 One of the amazing things about his radio work is that he never hurried through what he had to say. No music needed. He would lay his essay for the day or the hour out, in simple clear sentences, and never hurried it and was never afraid to pause for effect or to find the right word.

I found out recently that his theme music is from a Pretenders song. Chrissy Hynde was not happy he chose it, but she sold him the permissions anyway; I don't know how that happened.

571 Rush was consistent. His core values never changed. He loved freedom and truly wanted everyone to enjoy it as much as he did.

He wanted my beloved country to prosper as a nation and us individually. He shared his wealth from his heart, not from an evil socialist scheme.

He gave us a reason to fight for what we hold true and Godly. And we must fight.....or his purpose in life will be in vain.

It's up to us now to carry his message.

Everything in it made perfect sense to me. A conservative (in the truest and purest sense, not the corrupt version we see today) was born.
What a great teacher. Certainly he had bumps along the way, but who doesn't? Didn't change what he taught, what he believed.I'll always credit him for forming my political beliefs.

I started listening to Rush in the late 80's. I knew of him before that because my mother listened to him all the fucking time. Since he was at some little station in Sacramento, we could pick it up well on some days and horribly on others. I just remember this loud guy and lots of static on her car radio. But once I got past the blustery voice - especially his humor got me. He did a lot of crazy stuff before he was syndicated, he certainly couldn't have gotten away with it today.

Still remember the billboards when he was syndicated, they said "Rush Moves To The Left!" meaning left of the dial, to KSFO SF 560, from 1500 something. I think that was 1992ish. I drove past the billboard every day going to work.

He pretty much said what you stated above; it's unbelievably hard to talk for three hours every day in a compelling, lucid, entertaining fashion. 648 I liked the EIB parody of the Gitmo skool for the muzzies taught by Shabizz Shabazz or what ever his name is.

Muzzie: Do we hate the white or the whole wheat crackers?

Shabazz: Hate all Da Crakas!

Muzzies: Hate all the crackers, hate all the crackers!

Priceless.

Tough year so far.

653 I'm not an Iowahawk fan at this point but if that's his post it was honoring Rush .

Iowahawk has been trying to distance himself from politics since he moved to Austin. His big trademark now is "send in old photos of your (great) grandparents and I'll tell you they're posing with a 1915 Sefton Deluxe".

661 My Dad got me started back in the day on Rush and it was the thing I could leave and come back and nothing ever changed.

Driving around the Dakotas and the hinterlands of MN for work I could always count on those 3 hours being on the radio when little of anything else was.

The left better be careful...it was voices like his that were not instigating but teaching and educating us on the value of our political opinions...his faith that in the end that Conservatism and this Grand Country would win was something I bet many of us held on to. A soothing belief in American greatness in a sea of liberal and leftist hate.

Our soothing voices are leaving us one by one and if I was on the left I would beware...when the soothing words stop its actually time for action and it likely to be real hard and angry action.

664 I only saw IowaHawk's posts when someone else shared them, so I'm sure I was seeing the best of the best. But still, I saw enough to have reason to believe he was clever, funny, and thoughtful. That post about RBG and Rush was none of those things. It was like Brian Stelter and Joe Biden hacked his account and put their heads together to post something clever. It was idiotic, non-sensical, tone-deaf, and disgusting. It was not "honoring" to rush. It was dishonoring to himself. In summary, IowaHawk is a piece of shit and he can go fuck himself raw.

Perhaps, for a while, they will keep using the guest hosts. My personal favorite is Mark Steyn. I think that Rush would like to use his platform as a springboard for the lesser known local/regional voices on the radio, who started out much like him.
Hannity is a hard no. I tired of Levin because of all of the shouting. Steyn has the best the temperament, logic, and delivery, IMHO.

676 I discovered Rush around 2004 about the same time I started lurking and commenting occasionally here at Ace of Spades. I used to tease my hubby that Rush was the only man I'd ever leave him for. As soon as Katherine started to speak today I said "Please don't say it." Loved listening to him and love reading all these amazing comments about him and his legacy. There was and will never be anyone like him and he is now in a much better place.

I've no desire to read or hear anything the demonic left has to spew about him. They can refer themselves to Witch Doctor's comment if they have a problem with that.

Godspeed, Rush. Thank for you everything.

This is one of the reasons I would listen to his show. He would talk about the inside baseball here, or about his cat, or trying to kill a mouse in Sacramento, or the ins and outs of football. 689 Very sad.... and a huge loss for the conservative movement.

Rush's secret weapon was embodied in an expression he used to use all the time ... "Be Of Good Cheer". That was his magic, the ability to be kind and good natured and funny - while also shining a spotlight on how wrong and dangerous leftism was to all of us. No one can ever replace him.

691 I have a proposal 4 the Horde. I haven't seen anyone else suggest this yet, but I haven't looked very closely thru the comments either. So, forgive me if I'm stealing anyone thunder here. My proposal: Since we can all pretty much agree the Grand Old Party has rotted into the Glaringly Obsolete Party & anyone with more than two brain cells remaining in their cabeza knows it's time to tell them to kiss our collective asses goodbye for all eternity, then the time has come to start a third party and weed out the corruptocrats currently infesting our republic. Now, we'll need a name 4 that third party; a name that encapsulates our philosophy, our determination, and our demands. I suggest we name it "The Rush Party".
At this very moment every degenerate mental misfit on the left is singing and dancing on Rush's corpse before it's even cold thinking they've finally rid themselves of him forever. Nah-ah. We name the party for Rush and shove it in their fucking faces every fucking day 4 the rest of their miserable fucking lives. No single man in this country deserves it more. It will be a fitting and lasting tribute to him as our thanks. Get this trending. Rush 2022 Rush 2024 Rush 2026 ...
