It is a bit funny that places that are normally warm don't seem to understand that.

Nowhere up North has issues with this kind of stuff. To be fair -- we also don't heat our houses with electric heat. That would be very uneconomical. So the stress on the grid goes down in the winter when we're burning #2 oil or propane, instead of using electricity for AC.

But a power outage in the middle of the winter in new england can (and does, during bad snow storms) literally kill people if your furnace wont kick on and your recirculating pumps or blower don't work.
